  • How many computers can you install Lion after purchasing from App store. My wife and I have our own Apple ID will it accept 2 different ID

I have a MacBook Pro and an iMac . My wife has a MacBook and an iMac. How many computers are you allowed to install from one download. We both use Apple products and have our own Apple ID. Can I download Lion on her computers after I have both of mine installed? Or does she have to buy LION again using her Apple ID# ?

A single purchase of Lion will allow you to download it multiple times as long as you use your Apple ID.
If your wife wishes to install Lion, she must sign into the App Store with your Apple ID.

  • WIFI Packet Loss/Jitter MacBook Air 11 & LION OSX 10.7.1

I started using computers more than 30 years ago when I was 5, I had my first IBM PC at the age of 10 and have never had any interest in paying over the odds for an Apple mac mainly because I saw the Mac as a kind of "Can't open nothing", one mouse buttoned retard of the computer world.
    That is, until now.
I set up an online business 3 years ago and rented a dedicated server and set the whole business up in a cloud, so to speak. Having done that, all I needed a laptop for was a remote desktop connection and to run a SIP phone (Internet phone).
My PC based laptops had almost nothing installed on them, and I wasn't using software on the laptop itself, I was using remote desktop, so - why not try a MAC? The new Macbook Air 11 is small, light and made of metal and glass so should be robust enough to travel with me.
I have to say, this was the worst move I've ever made.
I opened the new shiny macbook and the first thing I noticed was that the internet seemed hit and miss. Moving around the room I managed to find a spot whereby pages woud load quickly. Strange, my £200 acer laptop was sh.t fast everywhere in the house. No matter, I packed it back away and carried on working on the Windows machine.
I've come to Newquay this week, and i've started to try and use the Macbook again in a hotel. The wireless signal in the room is low, and speedtest shows about 1 meg down and 3/4 meg up. That may sound bad to you, but remote desktop uses about 5k/sec (modem dial up speed) and the softphone, well, my Asterisk VOIP setup is confugured to use the GSM codec so that's 8k/sec each way + overheads.
This whole setup was deliberately designed to be "thin" so I can travel with ease and work on bad connections like USB internet sticks.
Anyhow, the Macbook was unable to hold a stable connection to the remote desktop or SIP phone, even though the speed test showed a whopping 1 meg up and down. What you may not be aware of is that there is more to a connection than the speed, there is the quality as well. How many packets are lost / how much "jitter" is on the line.
Anyhow, we're not living in the 3rd world, I ran a PINGTEST and it showed a small amount of jitter but told me the line was class B, online games may suffer but voip should be fine.
I unpacked the Acer, placed it in exactly the same spot as the Apple had sat in and it worked beautifully with 1 bar of wireless signal, all day long. Phone calls were clear.
So you know now what I'm thinking. I'm sitting here with my £200 acer because I can't use the £1500 macbook air 11. I paid nearly sixteen hundred pounds for this piece of .... and it doesn't ...... work. Time to contact Apple support.
    2nd Mistake!
Representitive 1: - Told me that I can't compare the Macbook Air to the Acer, the Acer has Google Chrome and everybody knows Google Chrome is the fastest browser. I was told there was nothing more he could do, its probably a bad line at the hotel. When I explained the Acer works fine for voip I was told well, maybe it is getting a better signal. I explained the Acer has the cheapest possible parts inside it and paid 1500 for this macbook, expecting it to have quality parts inside and was told I'd paid for the size, because its so small but its not considered "powerful". Apple do you train your staff? Clearly not.
Thank god I wasn't paying to talk to this moron.
Representitive 2: - Had no idea what packet loss or Jitter was, got me to do a speedtest and said that looks fine. Then he got me to remove the WIFI adapter and re add it in the network settings.
Guess what, nothing changed, its still the same hardware and software.
Representitive 3: - Still not really understanding "quality" issues with the networking interface, I was asked to install the latest Java client. I did it, only because I wanted to comply with Apples wishes so they'd help me, but they weren't helping and Java has nothing to do with the network adapter, so that was useless advice too.
Apple seem to have no idea there is a problem, even though Google has pages and pages of people saying the same as me, and their own discussion forums have thousands of people complaining https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2664670?start=0&tstart=0
Finally, late yesterday whilst speaking to d.ck head number 3 at Apple support, we found a forum post talking about a fix, 10.7.1 update. I told d. head number 3 about the update and he suggested I applied it. So I did and everything looked great, for a whole evening.
This morning, I switched on again and the same thing, slow remote desktop, choppy unusable phone. Remember the phone needs less than 20k for a conversation, thats 0.2 meg. Speedtest again showing a whole meg both ways.
I called apple support again, this time being a little forceful, and I've asked for this to be escalated, but the bottom line is - they have no fix, they don't aknowledge this as a problem and I was told LION is new, so maybe it's got a bug..
I told the guy on the phone this is a network driver issue, the intermittency of the problem shows that and the Apple's lack of settings for the network adapter means the unit is autonegotiating with the router and choosing speed and duplex settings on its own. Sometimes it does that correctly, other times not and the connection although fast has a lot of noise / packet loss / corruption.
I've found a workaround, you put the unit to sleep and wake it up again and it runs fast until the next shutdown. Not really acceptable seeing as I was paying for "the cream of the crop".
I will definately not be recommending Apple products, and i'll certainly not be replacing the Windows laptops in my business with Apple's toytown system- i'd go out of business if I had to rely on this.
All there is left now, is to look at Boot camp and see if I can wipe this waste of space linux hack from the unit and install Windows 7.

  • Since downloading Mtn.Lion my epson printer doesn't work correctly & the entire system seems to be slower plus my iMac now disconnects from my wifi every time the mac sleeps. Can anyone help me with these issues?

I am having problems with my Imac (approx 1 yr old) every since I downloaded (from the App.Store) Mountain Lion.  I am a working mom with 3 toddlers.....I have very little time to work on the computer which I primarily use for photograhpy needs.  I am not computer savvy enough to figure out how to "fix" the new issues/problems and am frustrated.  I am hoping someone can help me........
Issues just since downloading Mountain Lion:
    1)  My Epson R2400 printer is not printing properly.  It wouldnt print at all from CS5 the first 2 days.  Then just started printing.  The prints aren't nearly as good as they used to be.  I just installed Photoshop Elements 10 and have been able to print but the prints are just awful. I printed a test page and it was perfect.  I've triple checked the settings in the print dialogue box to ensure the correct paper is chosen, etc.  I've never let the printer manage the color before but it is the only option that gives a mediocre print at best.
I've gone to Epson.com.   It says to update driver through Apple for Mtn. Lion.  According to my computer I have no updates.  Printer is connected via USB. Changed the ports, turned printer on & off.  Emailed epson & they said to reset the print queue, which I did.  Restarted the IMac Still no luck.  (The error message I got when trying to print from CS5 is "filter failed." But, as stated before it just started printing today as I was typing this.
I print out pics quite a bit and it seems the only time I have ever had problems is when I upgraded the OSX system. Why is that??  When I upgraded to 10.7 is when I first realized my print quality went down.
    2)  Now every time I "wake" up my computer it has become offline and has to go through the steps to reconnect to my wifi.  Never did that before Mtn.Lion.  I purchased the Airport Extreme Dec 2011.  My computer was always connected before the update.  Now I have to scroll down & pick my network & wait for it to connect before proceeding.   I double checked preferences and it is set up to check for updates automatically.  What is that about??
    3)  It just seems that my system overall is slower.  I love my mac but I am frustrated because I don't have the free time needed to do all this problem solving.  I just need it to work properly when I have a few minutes to work on a picture.  I imagine there are other issues, but these are the only  2 areas I've focused on since the upgrade.
I've read different views/feedback on Mtn Lion but haven't come across the printer issue or the wifi connection issue.
Can anyone direct me towards a solution? I really appreciate it!
    T

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.

On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

  • After upgrading to Lion, wifi seems to be much slower, is this caused by lion?

    Hello All,
After upgrading to Lion, my MMA wifi seems to work much slower than before, and also the start up seems to be slower too. Is that caused by upgrading to Lion? Please help

Give it a few days and a dozen or so restarts.
The software may be updating Spotlight indexing and a few other "housekeeping" tasks.
My upgrade on a 2010 Air resulted in a slowdown at first, but then began to return to normal. At first, the boot time doubled, but within a couple of days, it was back to a 12 second boot.

  • If I install Yosemite and find that the wifi problems are too bad, can I go back to Mountain Lion?

Almost everything I do on my MacBookPro requires a steady wifi connection. I have been reading all the horror stories about the wifi problems with Yosemite. I would like to install Yosemite, but would like to be able to go back to Mountain Lion if the problems are as extreme as I have been hearing.
Details: My Mac is 3 years old (Apple Care ran out 2 days ago!). I recently upgraded from 4GB of ram to 16GB.
    Router is a Linksys E4200.
    I have an Iphone-4s
My husband has an older MacBook running Lion.
I connect to an Epson Artisan 835 with wifi via my router
We have no need to have the Apple devices communicate with each other.
I am currently running an appliance in Virtual Box. One reason I want to move to Yosemite is to be able to run it in VMware Fusion instead.
    Thanks.

    Hi there CarylLynne,
If you upgrade to Yosemite, you should be able to use the following article to revert to the previously installed OS using Time Machine, named:
OS X Yosemite: Revert to a previous OS X version
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • (Possible solution found) Can my wife and I use the same Lion DL even with two separate Apple IDs?

EDIT: Sorry; original search terms didn't give me my answer. I think I found a solution though. Will update whether it works out.
My wife and I each have our own MBPs, and we each have our own Apple IDs that pre-existed our marriage. Apple doesn't make it easy to have one family account with subaccounts managed underneath this, and we don't want each others iTunes purchases populating our libraries.
Is it possible for me to DL and install Lion with my Apple ID, copy it to hers, and install it there with my same info yet still allow her to use her own ID for other things? Or will we need separate IDs for each download?

  • Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my home wifi dies for all devices when I bring my MacBook Pro home.

    The situation:
Ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion, the following sequence of events has happened with my laptop.
    1. I come home from work.
    2. I open the lid of my laptop.
    3. I see the white "your comptuer's messed up" screen. I click a button to restart.
    4. We lose wifi. This affects all devices.
    5. I restart the router and modem.
Once it's restarted, I have no issues - until I leave for work and bring the computer back that night. I've checked the router and modem - no issues there, as it works perfectly for every other device in the house, and even works for the laptop perfectly (once they've been reset, that is).
    Some notes of clarification:
    1. The wifi does not die with any other device - this includes an iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and an iPad 1.
    2. BUT, when the wifi DOES die, it affects every device in the house.
    3. My laptop does not do this with any other wifi - only my home wifi.
It seems to me that the correlation is in the initial connection. When my laptop initially tries to connect to our home wifi, it's as if it fries both the connection and the computer. I see a lot of issues with people losing wifi for their computer, or slow wifi, but I haven't seen anything that relates to this wifi death across all devices when the laptop is reawoken after being at work. It's like there's something messed up with the switch from work wifi to home wifi.
    Please help!

    Hi,
I had a similar issue with Time Machine after upgrading my iMac (where the Time Machine HDD is connected and shared from) to Mountain Lion. This was fixed by following the instruction from this site: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4700. It seems that Mountain Lion introduced a more secure network protocol which may not be supported (yet) by the network drive.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I set up my Time Machine and Mac Mini with Lion Server so i have one wifi loop in the house?

    HELP!
So I have had a Time Machine wifi loop at the house for approx. 6 years. I run two Macbooks, 2 iPhones, 2 iTouch and a Samsung Smart Blueray on the loop.
I just bought a Mac Mini with Lion Server. When setting it up I'm not sure what or how I managed to do, but I now have 2 wifi loops, one doesn't lock and niether will support the Samsung BlueRay. Also, each time I want to go online with one of the other Mac devices i have to relog into the wifi loop.
Can someone please walk me through the fix. The mac Mini is plugged straight into the Time Machine to recevie its internet connection.
    Thanks!
    John

You often see this limit of 10 clients in wireless hotspots but I have yet to see it in an adsl modem.. most strange way to pay for a service that is really irrelevant how many clients you use.
Have a go .. I recently setup a TC to help a guy run his Roku.. and this setup worked well.. I have no idea if it can work in your case.
Lets say the IP you get is 192.168.2.1-10 .. doesn't matter what it really is. And the adsl modem is 192.168.2.254
(Assuming they are private addresses.. if they are public IP you can just use the DHCP and NAT. )
But go to the airport utility.. I think you need to run v5 at least to change DNS.. but you can do the same thing in v6 using static but no dns changes.
Now you set the IP of the TC manually.. This address might need to be in the dhcp range of the modem to work. You can set the DNS to same IP as the router address.. ie home address of the modem. Or you can use another DNS.. whatever you like.
Then set DHCP for clients that will join.. this can then expand the scope of addresses..
It worked without a NAT error.. although I am not sure exactly how.. on paper it should not be able to work but did.. have a go.. otherwise there is perhaps another way.. but it is complicated.
Give us an example from a computer plugged into the modem of what IP .. subnet mask .. Gateway and DNS you get. Then I can fine tune the values for it.

  • I upgraded my wife's iMac to Mountain Lion. When I try to set up her cloud connection to sync with her iPad and iPhone, it says it is sending a verification email, but it never arrives. Any way around this. Her phone and iPad seem to already be in sync .

When I try to set up my wife's Cloud account after upgrading to Mountain Lion, I click on the "send verification email" box, but the email never arrives. Her iPad and iPhone already seem to sync up in the Cloud, but no storage is being used. Any suggestions on how to get the account on her iMac?

  • How can I stop my Imac with Mountain Lion from draining the wifi connections? It's connected to the router by wire and the wifi on the Imac is disabled.

Okay so about 2 weeks ago, maybe less, my mom purchased a used IMac and then upgraded to Mountain Lion. Ever since she powered on the computer I haven't had the same capabilities on my PC laptop as I used to. Youtube takes forever for the videos to load and sometimes doesn't load at all. On skype when my friends send files it's estimated to take hours what should only take moments to download.
Around the same time as when we got the IMac, I had also installed a laucher for a website that was required by my school in order to do my work. At first I thought that was what was causing the slow internet and I swiftly uninstalled it, but the problem still continued. Please I know there could be other reasons for the slow internet but I really want to explore this possibility. Please, I really want my internet back.
    Imploringly,
    Jessica

    Try some trouble shooting
    Step 1
Does iMac have slow internet as well?
Yes - Problem may be Modem/router. Proceed step 4
    No - Proceed step 2
    Step 2
    Shut down iMac.
Does PC wifi issue still exist?
Yes - It is not the iMac. Proceed step 3
No - Need smarter people to help
    Step 3
Use wired connection on PC laptop. Leave iMac Shut down
Does PC laptop still have slow internet?
Yes - Not a wifi problem. Maybe the PC software.
No - Wi Fi issue. Maybe PC wifi or modem/router. Proceed step 4
    Step 4
Turn power off on modem/router, count to ten, then turn on. Wait for connection to re establish.
    Does issue still exist?
Yes - May be Modem/router wifi channel conflick with your neighbours wifi. Proceed step 5
No - Just needed a reboot. Surf safe.
    Step 5
Consult the modem/router manual for changing wireless channel.

When I upgraded my iMac to Lion I can no longer connect the iPad 2 to WiFi.  It gives me a message unable to search for WiFi.  Before the upgrade to Lion it worked fine.  What gives?

Could there be a setting I need to adjust in the iPad2?  When I try to turn on WiFi and enter the name of the WiFi that I have established, including the security type and the password, I get the message "Could not scan for wireless networks."  Is there a setting in iCloud or other location that needs to be changed?

    Hello all,
Here is the situation. Wifi syncing was working superbly well for both my iPhone and my iPad. They could be upstairs while I was downstairs in my office and I would see them both in iTunes and could sync them at will. Great stuff!
Until yesterday. I bought a new hard drive for my Macbook Pro, installed Lion on it and imported all of my apps and settings on it. Everythings works fine EXCEPT for wifi syncing. When I plug my devices to the USB cable I see them appear in the iTunes sidebar but I soon as I disconnect them, POOF! They're gone!
The checkbox IS checked. I tried unchecking it, syncing via USB, rechecking it an resyncing to no avail. I just can't get the darned thing to work again!
Both devices and the laptop have been restarted multiple times.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Can't believe it was so simple.
I just restarted my Mac and everything came back to normal.
Ok then sorry for the disturbance, move along, nothing to see here.

  • Wifi no longer works after update mountain lion

    Ls,
I've updated my MacBook Pro to Mountian Lion yesterday.
Ever since the update I've lost the ability to use the internet over Wifi.
The system shows a check mark on the left of my network list, however there is no outside connection.
I have ran the assistant (assist me...) to trouble solve. My modem has been reset.
My iPad, iPod and Apple TV can all connect without a hitch. leaving me no choice but to ask my question here.
I was hoping that this problem had been posted previously so I would not have to expose my nowbness
    Looking forward to an answer!
    Kind regards,
    Reese

I Read this sollution elsewhere on these forums and found that this worked for me.
However, the "load" time in Safari is not as fast as it used to be. Might be due to some router setting.
    Solution:
For all the Dutch users that have a KPN Experiabox router:
    1) go to http://192.168.2.254
    2) Username: KPN Password: leave empty (You might have changed this yourself)
    3) Go to Network (at the top)
    4) Go to WLAN (at the left)
    5) Set as follows:
    Enable WLAN: Enable
    Mode: IEEE 802.11g Only
    Channel: 7
    Transmitting power: 100%
    Enable WMM QoS: Disable
This fixed my wifi problems. Good luck
