Will FUNCTION be DETERMINISTIC

Hi, (my english is bad I apologize for errors)
I'd like to know if this function will really be deterministic for ORACLE?
...FUNCTION Wstart_Date(vDate DATE DEFAULT TRUNC(SYSDATE)) RETURN DATE DETERMINISTIC ...
(Returns the date of the first day of the week to which vDate belongs and if no date is given, take sysdate)
My view is:
Wstart_Date will return a different value each time I call it with NULL, because Default is applied BEFORE test for the 'DETERMINISTIC' clause of the function.
Am I right?
If I'm wrong, It should 'allways' return the same value each time I call it with NULL, because Oracle will first test the DETERMINISTIC clause, look at the known (null) parameter and 'take' the result from the cache for NULL.
Thanks.
Christian (From France)

As I understand it, the sole purpose of the DETEREMINISTIC clause is to tag the function as suitable for use with Function-Based Indexes and Materialized Views in query rewrite mode. As the documentation makes clear, Oracle actually has no way of telling whether the function is genuinely deterministic. If we say a function is deterministic and it ain't then it's our fault if the optimizer comes up with a cooked execution plan, but that's the only penalty.
Cheers, APC

    Ever since installing iCloud and Lion my computer is slow or freezes.  The color wheel comes on and My work stops.  I have only a small window of time where my computers will function normally during the day. I know many others that have the same problem. I'll get 20-30 minutes of work done and then a sync or something comes on, the color wheel of death shows up, and my productivity is shot.  I have to shut the computer down the hard way!  when it comes back up, it is still either frozen or slow.  I've checked in at the genius bar and all they say is that there have been some problems that Apple is trying to fix.  It effects Mail, Contacts, Safari, Calendar....yeah, pretty much everything.  My iPhone and iPad are not effected as much so I end up doing what I can with them.  I've seen the blogs out there and understand that many have the same problem.  I have been waiting to read about a fix but I have found nothing!  Any ideas?

    Not enough free space on the startup disk can slow the system down.
    Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
    For startup issues...  open System Preferences > Users & Groups - Login Items. Delete any apps listed there then restart your mac.
    And disable the Lion "resume" feature.
    Open System Preferences > General
    Deselect:   Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
    And Spotlight may be indexing... you can turn that off > Turning Off Spotlight | Mac Tricks And Tips

  • After their recent upgrade Facebook no longer works for Firefox version 2.0.0.20, what is the most recent version of Firefox that will function with a Mac G3 running OS 10.3.9?

    Facebook (FB) recently restructured their website. After logging on to my FB homepage, some of the graphics are garbled and I am no longer able to post status updates, comment on friend's status updates or pictures, or post pictures using Firefox version 2.0.0.20. I would like to know if there is a newer version of Firefox that will function with a Mac G3 Blue and White desktop running OS 10.3.9 which will be compatible with the new FB? I would upgrade my computer, but have 22+ years of business and tax records that will not function with the newer Mac OS.

  • HT1296 What is the correct windows xp path to use so USB sync will function? I must have moved my folder because sync no longer works.

    I tried to organize my computer folders but must have moved a key folder for my iProducts because I can no longer sync. Does anyone know the correct windows xp path to put my documents folder in the right location so sync will function again?

    Open iTunes, go to the Help, on the top menu bar.  ITunes can rebuild the path to the iTunes files.

  • The latest version of sync demands to be upgraded to the latest version before it will function.

    It appears that Sync v1.5.1 (the VERY LATEST VERSION) demands to be upgraded to a newer version before it will function for me. This is with a clean install of Firefox 3.6.12 on Win7. I have even fully deleted the profile several times just to confirm that this problem is not profile-related. I have almost 10 copies of Firefox I need to synchronize across various workstations, servers and USB devices, so this is not a trivial issue for me. It is so severe that I am actually moving back to XMarks in order to avoid this chicken-vs-egg issue.
    Moving to a beta/alpha of sync (1.6) does not fix the issue, as it then claims that the pin is wrong. When the field for the pin comes up, it is clearly something else other than what I initially inputted under 1.5.1.
    Seriously tho, nothing says clusterfck more clearly than the latest version of a product demanding to be upgraded to the latest version in order to function.

    Safari is part of OS X and isn't available as a separate download. How did you get a newer version than the one that comes with Lion?

    Dashboard has stopped working. The App will open, but none of the widgets will function. I've deleted widgets & added new ones, but they also will not work.

    I get the "License has stopped working" mesages too.
    We have a MacbookPro at home. There are two user-acounts on this mac, one for my wife and one for myself. This way we keep our personal stuff (e-mail, files, settings, dropbox, desktop clutter etc) separated. "Fast user switching" is enabled to easily switch to your personal account.
    Now when I open Photoshop I might get the dreaded "License has stopped working" message. This will happen if Photoshop is left open in her account. So I'll have to log into her account, close Photoshop, go back into my own acount and open Photoshop again.
    I should not get this message since Photoshop is not part of a particular user account, it is installed in the "Applications" folder which is accesible to all users.
    What makes it even more annoying is that I get the "License has stopped working" message on trying to open Photoshop even when Photoshop is closed in in the other acount, but Illustrator is opened.
    This makes no sense since we bought Photoshop and Illustrator CS3 as separate programs, not as a part of the Creative Suite.
    I did not report this to Adobe yet but it wil do that now.

  • I have "my story" app on multiple ipads at our school.  It now appears as if this app will function on some ipads and not others.  Is this because the app was pulled off of the itunes store?

    I have "my story" app on multiple ipas at our school.  It now appears as though the app will only function on a few of the ipads.  Is this because itunes pulled the app from the store?

    For any iPad exhibiting this, try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.
    Is this the app? https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/my-story-story-creator-for/id449232368?mt=8. It appears to be available.

  • I would like to know if a USB 2.0 Hub will function well in a 2014 rMBP USB 3.0 Port?

    I just purchased a rMBP and I need 4-5 powered USB slots for devices. There have been many reported problems with USB 3.0 Hubs on the rMBP. I want to know if anyone who was having problems was able to return to using a UBS 2.0 Hub?
    Will a USB 2.0 Hub function through the New rMBP's USB 3.0 port? Will there be spontenous errors and freezes?
    My devices are all USB 2.0

    I knew it was several years old, I had one and never got it to work with my iPhone 3G. I use the Kensington, looks like half a ball, but just about any new one should work. Keep in mind if you connect a lot of devices that are pulling power it may affect it.
    Polls are a violation of the Terms of Use here so I wouldn't post one. You might check with http://www.iLounge.com and read the reviews there.

  • How can I create links to other pages in iBooks that will function in PDF?

    Hi,
    I know some people have asked previously how to create links to other pages of their book within iBooks. I having an issue with this myself that I haven't been able to resolve. I am able to create the links, and they seem to function within the program, however, once I export the document as a PDF file (the format in which I need to have this ebook!), the links seem to be non-functional. Does anybody have a fix for this?
    Thank you so much for any suggestions you may have!! I really need to figure this out for my client.
    Regards,
    Meggyn

    Exporting as a PDF does alter/lose/remove certain functions. Adobe Acrobat has its own page navigation system.
    A lot of the hidden engine of iBooks Author is basically very similar to building a website! so links and books marks are an "internal" function.
    IF you  have Acrobat and not just the Adobe Reader, you can make links.  I have never needed to try, but  I see a working link related index  in the many software manuals  I have.

  • Can I simply swap the power lead over & it will function the same?

    Can I just use a UK plug on the EU item? I have an Apple airport extreme 5th  gen MD031Z/A  which I used during my time in Germany.  I was just wondering if it will work the same in the UK, if I simply replace the European power cord with a UK figure 8 power cord?
    Are the MD031Z/A (EU version) and the MD031B/A (UK plug) exactly the same? Apart from the power supply?
    I just don't want to damage the unit by swapping the cord?
    Thanks

    The AirPort Extreme will run on 100-240 Volts and 50-60 Hz, so power wise, it will work just about anywhere in the world if you have the right power adapter or power cord for the wall sockets where you will be going.
    Last time I checked the wireless standards were the same in the UK and the rest of Europe, except Switzerland, so things should be fine in that regard.

  • Is there a [plan to fix 4.0 so that all the previously useful add-ons and plugins will function? Delicious toolbar is disabled; Norton toolbar is disabled; several other add-ons that worked perfectly well in 3.6 do not now

    the upgrade caused several tools that I use every session to be disabled as they were incompatible with 4.0
    this was not an enhancement to me; rather it has caused me more aggravation than anything the old version did.

    Those '''add-ons''' for Firefox need to be fixed.
    Here's a simple trick to make the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/delicious-bookmarks/ Delicious bookmarks] Firefox add-on work after upgrading to Firefox 4.0.
    This assumes that you previously had the Delicious bookmarks add-on working in Firefox 3.6.x and you have just upgraded to Firefox 4.0 – which disables the add-on and states that it is incompatible with Firefox 4.0
    * Open Firefox
    * Goto “Help” in the Menu, then “Troubleshooting Information”
    * Click on the “Open Containing Folder” button (within the box “Application Basics” on top of the page)
    * Close Firefox
    * Goto into directory “extensions\{2fa4ed95-0317-4c6a-a74c-5f3e3912c1f9}”
    * Edit install.rdf and change the following from the first line to the second line
    em:maxVersion="4.0b3pre" />
    em:maxVersion="4.0.*" />
    * Restart Firefox
