Will my RoboHelp X5 winhelp compile in RoboHelp 7?

I currently have a large Winhelp 4 project that I maintain on
my PC using Robohelp X5. I don't want to update to Robohelp 7 until
after my next release. However, I would like to install Robohelp 7
on our server, which does a nightly build, and use it from the
command line to compile my X5 files to an HLP file. Does anyone
know if this will work? Our server currently compiles the files
using the Winhelp compiler, but we are having the dreaded font
substitution problem. I'm hoping that using Robohelp 7 on our
server will fix the font problem. Thanks for any advice that you
can give me.

Thanks for the help Peter. I haven't installed any version of
Robohelp on a server yet. I was only considering it, as new
versions of Robohelp will install the new hpj2hlp.dll that
automatically removes new Microsoft Word RTF codes. These new RTF
codes confuse the Winhelp compiler into changing from Arial font to
the Times Roman font.
Setting up a remote access to a client machine might work
really well. Thanks for the offer to test a test project for me. I
might be able to get one of my colleagues in another division at
work to do this.
My normal work environment is to create and edit the help
project on my PC. Then at night, I push the entire project onto
R&D's server where the software project is compiled (including
the help) at midnight. I view the result in the morning. I was
hoping to run a copy of Robohelp the R&D server via command
line. Nobody would ever use this copy to create online help, except
the one daily automatic compile at midnight.
I really appreciate you thoughts. Thanks. Have a nice
holiday.

  • Running an 8.8 addon under B1 2007 - will it work without re-compile?

    We have developed an addon for version 8.8 that now needs to be run on version 2007. We tried installing the 8.8 version on the 2007 system, and as far as we can tell it works with no problem.
    Of course we have the option of re-compiling with the 2007 dll's ui and di-api, but as I said, it doesn't seem to be necessary.
    Does anyone know any reason why it would be a problem to run an 8.8 addon on a 2007 system without re-compile?
    Thanks for any help or thoughts anyone has.
    Mel Dodd

    Dear Mel Dodd,
    If you used DI API 2007 in your addon not DI API 8.8, my answer is: it is running !
    If you used DI API 8.8 in your addon, my answer is: probably, but safe to recompile. The recompilation is very easy: remove DI API 8.8 and add DI API 2007-> compile.
    Maybe it will run on until the first call, which not implemented in DI API 2007, but it is listed in interop.sapbobscom
    Reason why it is running:
    You are using 2 components: UI API and DI API. UI API is under the same name, and ID. -> it is always like this.
    DI API : i am a bit confiused, but...
    Please check your addon config, which version of DI API are you using in the development? Please note, always at least 2 old version of DI API installed with the current version.

  • VISA resource name control will not function in my compiled application

    Hi
    I am having a great deal of difficulty.
    I have compiled my application which drives an instrument over a serial interface.
    In my uncompiled top level vi I can easily change the VISA control to a port the PC recognizes (the control has a drop down list of available ports).  Unfortunately in the compiled version this control is disabled.
    I really can't figure out what the problem is.  One thing to note is that when I run the complied application on my PC which has the full development version of LabVIEW (LabVIEW version 7.1) the control will work.  It is only when I try to run the compiled application on other PC's which have only the LabVIEW run time engine installed.  (Note: I know that the communications link is OK on these other PC's as I am still able to send commands to the instrument over HyperTerminal).
    I hope somebody can help, I am really stumpt on this one.
    Many thanks
    Ash

    Hi,
      you've said that you've built the installer, and are installing the serial driver, but have you installed the VISA run-time on the target machine?

  • This is a bit of information for folks that use Robohelp for Word.

    I know this is all a day late and a follar short but for those folks that still use Robohelp for Word:
    If your company is going to Windows 7, X5 will not work.  You need to bump it up to at least RH8.
    Even after you upgrade, if you use the tripane (winhelp_2000) view in RH for Word, it will not work on Windows 7 even with the microsoft patch.  With the patch it will look like an older version of RH in winhelp_4.  At least I have not been able to get it to display.
    What will work is if you compile it in Webhelp.  You will loose some links.  I know I should be moving to Robhelp Html and I tried, but when I did that I got a lot of garbage at the top of all my topics, I lost all my external links and I would have to retrain my partner...
    Now about links.  My only complaint about Robohelp for Word was it's limited external linking capacity.  If you use RH for Word you know you can only brouse to the net or to an htm or html document.  It doesn't mean you can't link to a PDF or an excel spread sheet.  You just can't brouse to it.  You can manually enter the path.  I just changed 740+ htm links to pdf links (pdf in same file as htm and the names were the same except for extension) and it worked.  If you intend to try this back up.
    Anyway, if this helps anyone great..if not thanks for letting me babble.  I like my Robohelp for Word in Webhelp format.
    Peggy Theo.

    Thanks for posting this Peggy.
    It is worth adding that there is another way of continuing to work with Word - using Linked Documents in RoboHelp HTML. You create Word documents entirely independent of RoboHelp and then create topics by linking those documents in a RoboHelp HTML project.
    You cannot create WinHelp that way but WinHelp is on life support and requires users to download a viewer, you cannot distribute it. It really is time to move on from WinHelp.
    RoboHelp for Word is not getting much development and does not get the new features being added to RoboHelp HTML.
    Linking is covered on my site.

  • Generating hlp files in RoboHelp HTML

    Is it possible to generate .hlp files from RoboHelp HTML version 9? We're generating help files for an older program that only uses .hlp or .chm files. I've only been able to generate .hlp files from RoboHelp for Word, and I don't really want to use it any more. But I haven't been able to generate .hlp files from RoboHelp HTML.
    Thanks.

    Hello PP
    I'll be happy to hazard a guess as to why RoboHelp doesn't "do" WinHelp. It has to do with the history of RoboHelp. Way back around 1992 or so, RoboHelp existed largely as a plug-in to Microsoft Word that made it a lot easier to create WinHelp files. Basically it was a set of macros that formatted the arcane coding necessary inside Word documents that made things work for the WinHelp compiler.
    HTML emerged later on and the first version of RoboHelp HTML was born. This created an entirely new format and an entirely new application (RoboHelp HTML or RoboHTML) was born. HTML help was the new kid on the block. As such, I'm guessing the developers were sort of watching to see if or how much it would "catch on".
    So the application code bases were totally different. And remain so to this day. As Microsoft has taken measures to try and dissuade folks from using WinHelp, I'm sure RoboHelp for Word is likely on life support and probably has been for some time. RoboHelp for Word and RoboHelp HTML work in totally different ways. And given the fact Microsoft wants WinHelp gone, it simply doesn't make any sense to expend effort on making RoboHelp HTML capable of outputting WinHelp.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How Can I Manage Topic Statuses and Workflow (RoboHelp 8)

    I'm the sole RoboHelp author in a company with a project lifecycle that didn't require me to work concurrent Help updates. I had time to finish an update and publish before starting work on another. Now I have multiple projects hitting my desk that need to publish on differing schedules.
    My question is, how can I more effectively manage my workflow? For example, I currently need to publish a Help update for Project 1 that only impacts two topics; however, I have updates for three existing topics in review for Project 2 that doesn't rollout for three more weeks. If I generate an update for Project 1 now, my Project 2 topics that I don't want to publish yet will be included in the compiled file. How can I manage this situation?
    It looks like I can set a topic status. Currently, all my topics use the default "In Progress" status. Should I set all my topics to "Complete" and reserve "In Progress" and "Ready for Review" for those that I'm working on for my various projects? Would it enable me to publish completed topics for Project 1 and default to the original content for the three Project 2 topics I status as "In Progress" or "Ready for Review?" As I noted, I don't want Project 2 updates to compile with Project 1, but do want their original content to be included in the file until such time as I'm ready to release the updates.
    Thanks

    I'm not clear how source control will help here. I believe the problem is about working on topics that are not to be included in an output. This is achieved by using conditional build tags. Apply a tag of say WIP to topics and content that is not ready to be generated. When the help is generated, apply a build expression of Not WIP.
    Source control would only be necessary if there is more than one person working on the project.

  • No robohelp html x5.0.2 cli

    I just finished installing this on our build machine only to
    discover that there is, apparently, no command line interface that
    I can use in my build scripts to automatically convert robohelp
    input files to html files.
    I've searched and searched and it appears there is no
    documented way to do it professionally with this product. So, can
    someone tell me which product I should have purchased? At this
    point, I'm happy to consider any product that will take robohelp x5
    input files and product html, even if it means migrating the data
    to some other format.

    LOL.
    That would be true if I asked "whose product should I be
    using". But I said "which product should I be using" which leaves
    the door open for the current vendor to offer other products. After
    all, the support site here has apparently received lots of
    "requests" for this feature. I just assumed that the vendor would
    eventually respond with "We're happy to announce...".
    I'm not just going to consider the current investment (even
    if it is relatively small) to be a loss when it's so easy to just
    ask the question.

  • RoboHelp Crashes when I Copy & Paste Text then Amend the Pasted Text

    I am copying text from one RoboHelp topic then pasting it into another RoboHelp topic (within the same project). If I then try to make a change to the pasted text RoboHelp crashes. This happens every single time so at least it is consistant!
    Any suggestions/solutions?

    Bit weird but it seems to be playing ball now!
    I copy/pasted text in the HTML editor and it works fine. Went back to the Wisiwig editor and tried it again, and it didn't crash.
    Really weird, I must have consistently crashed the sytem over 20 times this morning, so no idea why it chooses to work now!
    Thanks anyway, if it happens again I will reinstall RoboHelp and see if that is a long term cure.
    Cheers,
    Nicola

  • How can I keep Itunes from wanting to put my music cd in the compilations folder.  Even a 2 disc set sometimes itunes will place one cd in a folder of the name of the band and the other disc in the compilations folder under the name of the cd

    Two issues.  The first one is that when I upload some music cd's into my itunes library, itunes wants to place the songs in a compilations folder.  Sometimes this occurs even with a 2 or 3 cd set.  One CD will be filed under the artists name and the disc 2 may be filed in the compilations folder and listed by the name of the cd and not the artist.
    2nd issue is that sometimes cd's are similiar, but with different artists such as 20th century Hits of Neil Young.  The CD is filed in the compilations folder.  Than I upload the 20th century Hits of Tanya Tucker and the songs go into the same folder with Neil Young.  The don't even mix as one is county and the other is rock.
    I have moved these CD's out of the compilations folder and moved them in with the other cd's by the same artist, but Itunes keeps moving them back into the compilations folder.
    Is there a fix

    Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things.
    For compilations that aren't, select all tracks, Get Info, and on the option tab set Part of a Compilation to No. If it already says No tick the box alongside, then click OK.

  • Will Arch Linux going to change the default compiler to Clang?

    Recently read a news about building the kernel with LLVM Clang.
    I would like to ask will Arch Linux adopt this also soon, or in a plan, or no decision yet?

    Teho wrote:Would you mind sharing some sources? There seems to be quite a bit of work going on making upstream Clang/LLVM to compile Linux kernel
    Same as you (I suppose) I've been following these attempts by looking at overall progress, mailing lists and some of the bug reports, like I said this is not the first attempt to get llvm/clang to compile Linux (afaik this latest one is a consolidation of previous efforts together with some new blood(?) which makes it more likely that it will atleast be able to compile a stable kernel, albeit requiring patches).
    Teho wrote:Debian also seems to have plans to compile their entire repository with Clang. Not to mention that LLVM itself is very popular nowadays being installed on almost every Linux system.
    Are you referring to that one Debian developer who has compiled the repository with Clang to see how well it went? Is that the basis of your 'Debian also seems to have plans to compile their entire repository with Clang' claim?. AFAIK developers of distros have tried pretty much all the compilers under the sun on their repos and have reported the results, doesn't mean they plan to use that compiler for their official builds.
    Teho wrote:To my understanding the patches applied to Linux are also relatively small and non-intrusive.
    I don't know what the state is now but the previous patches I recall where not unintrusive, of course there are two targets of problems here, you can pretty much leave Linux alone if you can have clang-llvm accept lots of patches, and vice versa. If the current crop of patches needed were relatively small and non-intrusive they would likely have made in into some testing branches in the trees of their upstream targets by know, the changes needed for FreeBSD to compile using Clang/LLVM were quite substantial as I recall and it was like a 4-5 year period necessary for the transition despite being a very focused effort which will finally reach it's culmination with the upcoming FreeBSD 10 release.
    Teho wrote:There's obviously a lot of community intrest considering that it was worth setting up the LLVMLinux project under Linux Foundation (to reduce dublicated work);
    Well I don't judge a project's success or community interest by a webpage, I judge it by progress. Currently it seems to be where it was last I checked, patches needing to be applied to both Linux and Clang/LLVM with a unstable kernel as a result.
    Teho wrote:Not to mention that LLVM itself is very popular nowadays being installed on almost every Linux system.
    Well yes LLVM is pretty much ubiquitous as a JIT-framework which is used in lots of projects but LLVM as a an actual installed package?
    Like I said, I would be surprised (as in I don't think it will happen) if upstream linux and clang/llvm took in the patches necessary for compiling linux 'out-of-the-box' based upon past and current progress. I guess we'll have to see.

  • WinHelp to HTML Help - missed topics

    I'm creating HTML Help projects using RoboHTML version X5.0.2
    by importing a WinHelp project created in RoboHelp for Word version
    X5.0.1 - Microsoft Word 2000, Windows XP operating system (either
    via the HLP or HPJ file).
    After the process is complete, certain topics are not coming
    over. I thought perhaps it was due to long tables, but some topics
    with long tables came over. So, I'm not sure why these particular
    topics are being missed. I checked to see if there's anything
    unique about these topics (such as unnecessary non-scrolling
    regions, etc.) but nothing is different.
    Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    ellenu,
    I am having the exact same issue, I'm also in the process of
    creating HTML Help projects by importing a WinHelp project. When I
    import my .HPJ (Winhelp project file) into RoboHelp for Word all of
    the topics get loaded, and I am able to successfully re-compile
    using any of the WinHelp layouts, all of the topics are included.
    However, if I choose the Microsoft HTML Help layout only the first
    19 topics get converted to HTML.
    Also, If I try to import the .HPJ (Winhelp project file) into
    RoboHelp HTML, the same problem occurs. The first 19 topics are
    loaded and the rest go missing! I have even tried deleting what
    would be topic 20, to see if it was an issue with that topic. No
    go....
    I would be most appreciative if anyone has any insight into
    this issue.

  • How to get compilations to show up as one album in Albums view

    In albums view, the NPR Austin 100 song compilations (1 folder with 100 songs) I imported to itunes show up as 100 different albums with 1 song each, which is a mess and makes finding and viewing my regular 10+ song albums difficult. Also I want to be able to click play on those albums and it plays the 100 songs instead of having them scattered. How can I get the 100 songs to show up as 1 album with 100 songs instead of 100 albums with 1 song each? In songs view they all have the same genre (NPR Music's The Austin 100 (2013)). So far I checked "part of a compilation" and tried a few mass edits on every song like setting Album Artist to the same name, which got them in 1 album but the track numbers are messed up and most of these songs don't have track numbers so I'm back to square 1. I deleted the songs, imported the NPR folder again and set all songs to "part of a compilation." What next? I know I can make playlists but I tried that and it didn't solve the problem and I still see all these 1 song albums in albums view and on my phone. I'm not crazy about editing track numbers 1 by 1 on hundreds-thousands of songs. Maybe itunes needs to change something like ask questions when we import folders, eg "do you want all of these songs in 1 album?" and then it automatically assigns track numbers.
    I just found this possible solution but we have to mess with scripts and it might not work for everyone Automatically Number Songs in iTunes

    Generally setting a common Album title and Album Artist will fix things. For compilations of tracks by different artists set the album artist to Various Artists and also set Part of a compilation to Yes on the Options tab.

  • [Bug] Compiler bug in JDev  10.1.3.0.4 (SU5)

    Hello,
    I would like to report a bug with Java 5 compiler in JDev 10.1.3.0.4 (SU5) build JDEV_ADF_10.1.3_NT_030125.0900.3673 regarding covariant return types.
    As of Java 5, it's now possible to override a method with a different return type as long as the new return type is a subclass of the overridden method's return type. JDeveloper compiler will manage that correctly (no compilation error), but will result in a java.lang.AbstractMethodError if the overriding definition come from an interface.
    So the reproduction case is :
    public interface Interface1 {
       public Object myMethod();
    public interface Interface2 extends Interface1 {
      public String myMethod();
    public abstract class AbstractInterface2 implements Interface2 {
    public class MyClass extends AbstractInterface2 {
      public String myMethod() {
        return "Hello"!;
    public static void main(String... args) {
      Interface1 myObject = new MyClass();
      myObject.myMethod();
    }I did not test with other JDev version.
    Regards,
    Simon Lessard

    quick workaround is to set project output directory to the WEB-INF/classes directory and compile the jsp from jdeveloper, oc4j then updates the loaded class file without re-compiling the jsp.
    This works fine, but if I let OC4J try to compile the JSP problem still occurs, anyone have any ideas why either of these problems occur?
