Win2k3 AD problem with autoenrolled Server Certificate
Hi there
I was running into some problems using an SSL connection to our company active directory server on the win2k3 plattform. During the SSL Handshake, the AD sends his CertificateChain in which the Server Certificate has marked the alternateSubjectName as critical (inside it is actually the FQDN). Because the RFC says, that all extended fields marked as critical should be known and java 1.5 ssl implementation doesn't, the SSL connection will hang up before the handshake has been made.
Because the AD's certificate was enrolled automatically and my administrator isn't willing to change the certificate, i hung on this problem now for several days.
How can I avoid that this field is unknown an will generate an exception? Do I really have to implement my own PKIXCertPathChecker to do a workaround? Any suggestion is welcome.
Ah and if someone is interested what I am doing: I am using Spring LDAP to do a usermanagement software which has the focus on creating, locking and deleting users. In advance it must be possible to set any password within an administrator account. Spring LDAP is built up on (as far as I know) JNDI.
The field marked as critical is:
[5]: ObjectId: 2.5.29.17 Criticality=true
SubjectAlternativeName [
[DNSName: server.domain.com]]and the exception (from the ssl debug log):
http-10001-1, SEND TLSv1 ALERT: fatal, description = certificate_unknown
http-10001-1, WRITE: TLSv1 Alert, length = 2
[Raw write]: length = 7
0000: 15 03 01 00 02 02 2E .......
http-10001-1, called closeSocket()
http-10001-1, handling exception: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: java.security.cert.CertificateException: Certificate contains unsupported critical extensions: [2.5.29.17]
user.SaveAction:persistIfValid() - Unknown error while perstisting object:Unable to communicate with LDAP server; nested exception is javax.naming.CommunicationException: simple bind failed: server.domain.com:
636 [Root exception is javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: java.security.cert.CertificateException: Certificate contains unsupported critical extensions: [2.5.29.17]]
hi adler_steven
thanks for your advice. I already read those threads some days ago but nothing helped me. I still got the error because of this subjectAlternativeName field. I tried to write an own implementation of PKIXCertPathChecker which can handle the 2.5.29.17 extension. But I cannot hang in the code where i need it (only possible if I overwrite some JNDI classes which I try to avoid because of future updates!). My last hope is now to implement my own SSLSocketFactory.
Or does someone of you know how to make an SSLContext static? ;-)
[edit]
Chronology of my SSL handshake:
-- Client Hello
-- Server Hello, Certificate, Certificate Request, Server Hello Done
-- Client tries to read the Certificate chain from the server, fails because of unknown extension and sends back an Alert (Certificate Unknown) <-- which is a little bit confusing, because in my official exception is written as javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: java.security.cert.CertificateException: Certificate contains unsupported critical extensions: [2.5.29.17]

Problems with mail server certificates
Hi,
i have problems accessing my mail server over ssl since I upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion.
The problem is, that when i try to connect to my mail server Mail stops working (and so does Safari and Keychain access).
I tryed to add my servers certificate to Keychain manually. When i drag the certificate to Keychain it shows up in Certificates, but when i try to set 'Allways trust' the application stops responding (and after that Mail won't send or receive anything and Safari wont load anythin until i restart the Mac).
Firefox is working without problems (webmail access which uses same certificate), even when Safari and Mail stop working.
Any idea what to do?I found that the problematic process is "ocspd". If you force quit it, the applications continue to work.
It seams that Apple has a bug here. -
Hi All,
After several hours and a short night of sleep I'm out of ideas and hopefully someone here can help me trying to solve this one. First of all the situation:
Exchange 2013 on a remote location with a CA-certificate.
Outlook 2010 and 2013 on different locations, locally installed and on RDS.
When I open Outlook on my laptop all is fine, no errors, good sync, no problem. But when I open Outlook on our Remote Desktop Servers with Outlook 2013 I'm getting errors like "There is a problem with the security certificate of the proxy server. The
name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site. Outlook is unable to connect to this server. (Error code 18)". Opening Outlook 2010 the message is the same, but the error code now is 38.
After this Outlook opens and is working, there's one more error though. After a while an security warning pops up with the message: "Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However, there is a problem with the
site's security certificate. * The security certificate was issued by a company you have not chosen to trust. View the certificate to determine whether you want to trust the certifying authority. * The security certificate is valid. * The name on the security
certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site."
Strangest thing is, it is the certificate of my RDS! It isn't my valid en officially bought certificate from my mailserver. What's going on? I'm out of options, what I've tried so far (in random order):
- restarting mailserver and AD;
- restarting switches;
- restarting routers;
- restarting RDS, AD and all other servers;
- bypassed proxyserver for RDS;
- created a new profile;
- checked recently installed updates;
- checked certificate on mailserver;
- checked RDS on a different location, working fine.
Nothing helped, what can I do next? Please advice.
Regards.Found a thread that solves half my problem (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/70d18244-889a-4d95-ac3f-e234672a82b2/there-is-a-problem-with-the-proxy-servers-security-certificate-error-when-starting-outlook?forum=exchangesvrclients).
The first message can be suppressed by adding this to the Exchange config:
set-outlookprovider -Identity EXCH -CertprincipalName msstd:webmail.domain.tld
set-outlookprovider -Identity EXPR -CertprincipalName msstd:webmail.domain.tld
Giving the command get-outlookprovider, gives me empty information regarding the certprinipalname. Filled
this and after recreating the profile or deleting the ost-file I still have the second alert with the local certificate of my RDS.
Not completely where I want to be, any help regarding the second alert is greatly appreciated! -
Hello,
I have an issue with connecting client SB1H on Windows, the scenario is as follows:
1.- Server:
Suse Linux Enterprise Server 11.3 kernel version: 3.0.76-0.11 IBM
NDB and Server are review 69 SP06
2.- Client:
Windows 8 Pro Virtual Machine on Microsoft Hyper-V
SB1H PL 11 version 32bits
SAP HANA Studio version 1.0.60
When I run SB1H the following message appears:
There is a problem with the server's security certificate. The security certificate is not from a trusted certifying authority. SAP Business One is unable to connect to the server.
Any idea what could be the solution?Hi,
Please check SAP notes:

Problem with HTTPS requests to host with untrusted server certificate
Hi,
I develop an iPhone framework which sends HTTPS requests in order to communicate with a publicly available backend server. Currently I have a big problem regarding untrusted server certificates.
The certificate of the backend server is not signed by a trusted CA, so my first approach was to use NSURLRequest's private allowsAnyHTTPSCertificateForHost. While this worked as expected an was fine as temporary workaround, our customer demands a clean solution as final result. Therefore I wrote a method which allows to install a provided certificate from the file system in the keychain, but this method does not work as expected in the iPhone Simulator. The certificate is installed in the host machine's Mac OS X keychain instead. Unfortunately, if I call NSURLConnection's sendSynchronousRequest method, I retrieve an "untrusted server certificate" error. It seems as if NSURLConnection is not able to access the host's Mac OS X keychain to retrieve the certificate.
Is my guess correct or did I miss something?
Would my approach work if I ran my app on a real iPhone device instead (I do not have one available yet)?
Does there exist a keychain in the iPhone Simulator at all?
Is it at all possible to send HTTPS requests to a server with an untrusted certificate on the iPhone Simulator or do I have to use precompiler directives to implement different routines depending on the underlying platform (simulator or device, respectively)?
Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks,
MatthiasIndeed this would be a clean and simple solution. But our customer is not willing to get a real certificate, for whatever reasons.
The question that remains is if the HTTPS requests would succeed on the iPhone device itself if the server certificate was installed in the keychain by the same app beforehand. -
Hi,
I have this Windows 2008 R2 on which I installed remoteapp some years ago.
Now the certificate expired and I get the message
"There is a problem with this connection's security certificate
The remote computer cannot be authenticated due to problems with its security certificate.
Security certificate problems might indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the remote computer."
How should I renew the certificate? I already went to certification store and tried to renew certificate with same key but then it says "the request contains nor certificate template information".
Please advise.
J.
J.
Jan HoedtDoes the computer account have Enroll permission to the certificate template?
From the Server running your CA, run mmc, click File then Add/Remove Snap-in...
Add Certificate Templates and click OK.
Find the certificate template, then right click and select properties. On my CA its call ed RemoteDesktopComputers but might be called something different depending on what what template your certificate is based on.
On the security tab, click Oblect types, check Computers then OK. Enter the Computername and click OK. Then give your computer account Enroll permisssion.

The PATH must be consistently formated (e.g. C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0\bin; ) or the Appserver may not be able to start and/or stop. Mixed quoted spaces in your PATH can cause problems, so the launcher will remove all double quotes before invoking the process. The most reliable solution would be to remove all spaces from your path before starting the Appservers components. |#]

Thanks in advance
AjayThe VERY FIRST message in the server log gives you a hint as to what the problem might be. The server thinks you have spaces in your PATH to the application server. Therefore, the solution is to kill the server however you need to (task manager, whatever) and then reinstall it in a path that doesn't contain spaces. That's the low-hanging fruit here; if that doesn't work, well, then we will have to find some other solution.

Problem with Application Server Portal 9.0.2.0.1.
I have a problem with Application Server Portal and Wireless 9.0.2.0.1.
Firstly I've installed the infrastructure on a Pentium 3 866Mhz 512Mb of Ram, with Windows 2000 Server (Italian) service pack 2.
I've maintained all predefined settings and I've chosen the UTF8 character set.
After installation, my infrastructure and OID works fine. The OID has port 4032 (as set by Oracle Universal Installer) instead of predefined 389.
After this I've installed Application Server Portal and Wireless on another host: a Pentium 3 733Mhz 384Mb of Ram, with Windows 2000 Server (Italian) service pack 2.
I've also maintained all predefined settings and automatic configuration of Portal and Wireless. I've pointed to my Infrastructure.
Try to test the Portal demonstration but an error occurred:
"SERVICE TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE. The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later."
On my EM Console I see: component instances 'OC4J_Portal' and 'OC4J_Demos' are UP, instead 'Portal:portal:7777' is down.
On the component lists I've clicked the link of component instance Portal:portal:7777, the 'control services' and 'Accessible Server SSO' are started, while 'Accessible Portal Repository' is down.
What can I do to get my portal started?hi,
i have exactly the same problem. did you solve yours?
any suggestions or help how to do it?
thanks
erik

CLASSPATH problem with Application Server 8.2
Hello everyone.
i am new to using the App server 8.2 for deploying a web application. we decided to use it because we were having too many problems with Web Server.
We successfully deployed the application and it runs. however, when accessing a page with database connectivity, we get the following error:

I don't really know what that means but it looks like i need to set some sort of classpath properties. under web server 6.1, the classpath settings were those of the server's JAR file path.
i used Studio creator's remote deployment tool to deploy to AppSvr8.2.
i followed the tutorial step by step.
can someone please help mei did what you suggested and now i get a different error: Connection could not be allocated because: com.sun.sql.jdbc.oracle.OracleDriver

Backup Problem with Windows Server Backup
Hello,
we have problems with Windows Server Backup Feature.
Our system is a Windows Server 2008 Standard. On the computer runs a SQL Server 2005.
Since several days no backup can be carried out. We get the error message:
- Error during a Volume Shadow Copy service operation. Detailed error: Failed to process the volume shadow copy: "0x800423F0".
- Errors in the event log: For the started backup an error occured. The volume shadow copy operation was not successful. Error code: "2155348129". Run the backup again after the problem was fixed.
We have already tried to restart the services, uninstalled the Windows Server Backup Feature and reinstalled it, also we rebootet the server several times. Unfortunately, so far without success.
What else can we do respectively where could be the problem?
Kind regards
Sven Otto
