Window behaviour in Microsoft Word

I am running the latest version of OS X and MS Office 2008. Ever since 10.6 came out, if I have several Word documents open at once, executing a 'print' command makes the current document disappear. According to the Window menu it is still the active document, but it is invisible and I have to click on another document and then reselect the original one from the Window menu to get it back. This also happens with certain other functions as well, but most consistently with 'print'. However, it only happens on my MacBook Pro, not my iMac. I must say this is the most annoying glitch in Word under 10.6 but there are a other things affecting Excel which also remain unaddressed by the latest updates. Anyone else experiencing this?

Can I ask if you are using Spaces? I've been searching for days to find an answer to this as exactly the same thing happens to my Office 2008 (Excel, Word etc). It's definitely nothing to do with printing in my case. It happens to me when I move out of one Space into another and then return to the original space and application. I find my active window is behind an inactive window.
Just clicking the active window doesn't bring it to the front, you have to click an inactive one and then select the original active window to bring it to the top.
This is so frustrating but I don't think anyone in the world has an answer to it. Someone ... apple ... microsoft ... please prove me wrong!

Microsoft Word Script

Hello there!
Whenever I open a Word document, the application window opens on the left side of the screen instead of in the center. This really irritates me. So, I searched the internet and found the following script which centers the window:

The script works flawlessly, however I manually have to run it by clicking the scripts menu and selecting the script. I was wondering if there was a way to have the script run automatically in the background each time I open a document. If so, how do I do this?

Saving from Windows Microsoft Word 2003 and ACL !

If I save directly from the Word to a Network-drive I get a strange behaviour of the ACL's !
the file get added ACL 'Users' and an other 'Everyone' the from the parent folder inherited ACL tbsxuser will be tripled !
If I copy the same file from the desktop to the Network-drive the behaviour is like expect !

I have the same problem with Office 2007. On a share I have set ACL "Domain Users Read/Write" to propagate to all directories. The POSIX rights are set to "rw" for owner/group/others. When I save an Excel file to the shared directory, the following happens:
- POSIX rights are all turned off to none
- the creator, Users, and Everyone will get ACL entries (read/write, read only, and read-only)
- Domain Users ACL is present 4 times
After the next save the Domain Users ACL is present 10 times, one more time and there are 22 entries.
It is clearly a problem with Office. Notepad doesn't change the file permissions. I have not yet tried different locking settings. Currently both strict and oportunistic locks are set on.
Also I'd like to add that this strange behaviour happens both on 10.5.6 and 10.4.11, I just tested this.
I think it would be good to be able to see if the same happens on a Windows Server share but I need to figure out how to test it. File Properties in Windows Explorer doesn't show multiple ACLs even though Mac Server Admin shows they are there.

How do I change the "Open with Windows Wordpad Application (default)" for a DOCX file to I guess, Microsoft Word?

I think the "Wordpad Application (default) got entered some time ago while trying to open a DOCX file. I now have a compatibility pack downloaded for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Formats for my Office 2003 and I think I could open a DOCX file now but can't get this Wordpad application removed and changed to another application to open it, which I think would probably be Word or if someone has another suggestion.

I can't get "Use Microsoft Word (default)" to appear as an Action option. Only Windows WordPad application, Media Center, Internet Explorer, iTunes, Media Player Classic, Nero, Windows Photo, Picasa, Windows Calendar and wWindow Media Player appear as choices. I don't know how to add Microsoft Word as a choice. Maybe the second part of the instructions in your reply "Adding download actions" would solve this but I don't understand the instruction starting with #1. I don't know how to go about doing what it says to do.
I don't think it makes any difference, but I do have Office XP instead of 03 as I stated in my first question.

When I am running word between an external monitor and my MBP, Microsoft word always interrupts any clicks between programs and between screens to become the active window. This is especially annoying when I am trying to navigate between MacMail and Chrome, or any other programs.
The problem doesn't exist when I click between programs on the MBP, but only when I select windows between the two screens. Or programs on the external monitor.
Word is up to date, as is my MBP.
Please don't punt me to Microsoft, they're the worst!

There is a workaround for this problem, which was posted by Highestwater on the Microsoft Community thread for this bug and worked for me as well:

System Preferences > Mission Control >
and UN-check the box labeled "Displays have separate Spaces" (see image below)
The original poster on this thread may already be aware of this workaround, because he/she mentioned that the "separate Spaces" option is checked. But if you can live without the extra Mavericks dual display features (like going full screen in 1 display only, switching spaces independently on each display, and having a menu bar on each display), then uncheck this option and the "stealing focus" bug seems to disappear. For me the bug is so annoying that it's worth it to lose the extra features. Just yesterday I closed a Word document I was working on by mistake because I clicked on a Finder window on my other display and immediately pressed command-w to close it, without realizing that the focus had switched to my word document which closed instead. It was saved, but this sort of stuff interrupted my work enough to be both an annoyance and a time drain.

HP Photosmart C6100: Complete stuck (Microsoft word + "Black only" window)

Whenever I tried printing documents from Microsoft word, a window of "Ink catridges empty" pops out (because my magneta colour has run out). However, when I clicked on "black only" button, the whole screen (even the microsoft word) freeze. I couldn't even close it down unless I use the task manager. Any remedies?

I understand you have a Photosmart 7510 that seems to be using a lot more of the photo black than the regular black ink. I'm sorry to hear this, but believe I can assist you with a solution.
You can set the printer to use black ink only when printing from the PC and that should ensure that it uses that the black ink and not the photo ink. My instructions will be to set it up in the driver so it does it for all programs (if you want it for just the program please let me know and I will advise further). You will want to start with going to your Start screen, and just start typing Devices and Printers and you will want to open that (if that doesn't work type in Control Panel and then proceed to open Devices and Printers). Once Devices and Printers is open, right click on your Photosmart 7510 icon and select Printing Preferences. You will then want to click the Advanced button at the bottom right of the screen. The next page that opens will allow you to set the printer to use Black Ink Only when printing from the PC (please follow the screen shot below for any clarification).

After updating to Yosemite, why will my windows in Safari and Microsoft Word close unexpectedly with no method of retrieval?

On two different occasions after updating to Yosemite this has happened. On the first occasion I had two documents open in Microsoft Word and after looking something up on Safari, attempted to go back to the two open documents. Microsoft Word was showing as open, but the documents were nowhere to be seen and I also could open nothing else and was forced to force quit without saving my work on those documents.
A similar thing occurred today with Safari. I had many tabs open in one window in Safari. I closed my laptop to move to another room, and upon opening my laptop again Safari was still open, but all my tabs of different research papers I had were gone. When I chose the "reopen all windows from last session" option, it reopened windows I had not had open for many days, and not the ones I had been working off that day.
This is extremely annoying and as a scientist, I was forced to once again look up the many papers I needed for a grant proposal that I had not yet copied down reference information for. Why is this happening?

Is Acrobat Standard 10 incompatible with Windows Microsoft Word 2003, v 11.8?

An Acrobat Add-In has to be disabled for me to open a Word file. If the Add-In is disabled I cannot create a .pdf. The error dialog box attributes the problem to a runtime error due to program c:\program files\microsoft office\office11\winword exe. An associated dialog box says that Runtime is shutting down Adobe Acrobat 10 early because the security is too high. But putting Word Macro Security setting on medium and then on low doesn't help. Nor does telling a Microsoft security box that Adobe.com is a trusted site. I have spent critical hours trying to fix this, without result. I would appreciate whatever help I can get. I didn't have any trouble creating .pdf files with Acrobat 9. Tks. DWI.

Word 2003 is compatible with the PDF Maker macro for Acrobat X Std. What OS are you running? Have you tried to load the PDF Maker macro manually?
Exit all programs.
Select Tools > Customize, and click the Commands tab.
Click Tools in the Categories panel.
Drag COM Add-ins from the Commands panel to the Tools menu while holding down the mouse button. When the Tools menu displays the menu commands, drag COM Add-ins just below the Customize option, and then release the mouse button.
Click Close.
Click COM Add-ins on the Tools menu.
Click Add, locate the add-in (the PDFMaker Add-in is at [Acrobat Installation Path]\PDFMaker\Office\PDFMOfficeAddIn.dll), and click OK.
Press Alt+F11 to start the Visual Basic Editor.
Press Ctrl+G to start the Immediate Window of Visual Basic Editor.
To start PDFMaker in Word, type Application.COMAddIns("PDFMaker.OfficeAddin").Connect = True. Close the Visual Basic Editor.
Verify that the Adobe PDF menu now appears to the right of Help on the Microsoft Word menu bar.
Also, renaming the global template file, Normal.dot, sometimes helps resolve the issue. There are instructions at the bottom of this article from Microsoft that explain how to do this.

CWK file to pdf or Microsoft word on a windows computer

Could someone please tell me if I can convert a CWK file to pdf or Microsoft word on a windows computer. I have tried opening the word document and going to the 'open' options etc but this still won't open the CWK file.
Is there something else I can do to open the files or convert them to pdf?

It seems this is an old Apple Words document. A Google search revealed https://www.google.com/search?q=cwk+files&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:I E-Address&ie=&oe=&gws_rd=ssl that Word will not do this natively. I was able to see a couple of converters, and it also provided info that LibreOffice, a free open source Office program can open them with exceptions.
How you decide to go about doing this is up to you.

I'm on Windows XP, Firefox 3.6.25 and Microsoft Word v.7 for Windows 95. Is my old Word version preventing hyperlinking? I've found NO way to do it -- no toolbar link buttons, no hyperlink options when I right-click, or anything. Help?

I had a similar problem trying to install Win7 x64 on my 2009 iMac. I finally copied the entire Boot Camp driver folder from the OS X installation DVD to Windows. Then I went to \drivers\bootcamp64.msi, right-clicked on it and selected Troubleshoot Compatibility. Windows chugged a bit and came up with a dialog that said Try Recommended Settings. Click on that, then Start Program. The Boot Camp installer now worked great.
Give it a shot.

How to Install Microsoft Word Add-in in Windows Svr 2008 R2 64bit with Word 2010 32 bit

I developed Microsoft Word Add-In for 32 bit systems which is working fine. Now i want to install the same on Win Svr 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 bit with 32 bit Microsoft Word installed. What changes do i need to do in my project and installer.

Working/Development/Testing PC: Win 7 32 bit with Word 2010 32 bit
Tried Steps
Changed project and installer target to x64
When i give target location in Application folder [ProgramFilesFolder][Manufacturer]\Office14\ADDINS\ the Add-In automatically installs in C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Office14\ADDINS\ and registry is also updated as required but when word is started it tries to
load Add-In in location C:\ProgramFiles\Office14\ADDINS\ whereas files are placed in x86 ProgramFiles because word too is 32 bit.
note: Setup of server (Win08r2 64 bit with 2010 Word 32 bit) cannot be changed as it is running in production.
please guide how do i solve the issue.

I rebuilt the solution in .Net 3.5 and somehow it solved the problem on the clients.
For second query As Microsoft Word 32 bit is installed on Win Server 08 r2 64Bit so i needed a target code for 32 bit which worked. 64 bit solution was not required as quoted by
