Window Media Server and Flash Server

hi experts,
I am rather new to Flash Media Server, but quite impressed
with what flash server can do. however, i have a few questions
which i could not find any answer on the website:
1) Could Flash Media Server co-exists on the same server with
Window Media Server? Can both run at the same time?
2) Could Microsoft cluster service support Flash Media server
or Window Media server? If not, is there any other way for high
avail support?
Thank you guys in advance.

Hi and welcome,
1. Yes they can co-exist on the same server. I would just
keep WMS HTTP Server Control Protocol plug-in in disabled to allow
for flash to utilize the port. I've seen more problems with
firewalls blocking port 1935 for flash so the rollover to http is
good to have.
2. Yes, There's a decent article on using NLB for coldfusion
here.
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/coldfusion/articles/nlb_failover.html
Just susbtitiute coldfusion for flash. You could also do a
simple round robin dns load balancing with a flash edge/origin
configuration. This article talks about setting up redundancy.
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashmediaserver/articles/origin_redundancy.html
Last but not least. If you don't want the hassle of
maintaining and spending money on harware, server licenses, etc.
and you need scalability use a CDN like Akamai. They have the power
of thousands of servers to keep your clients happy and reduce your
headaches.

  • Windows Media player and flash player conflicting

    Hello,
I have a problem with watching streams (television programs)
on the internet. I think this is caused by conflicting roles of
windows media player and flash player. When i don't have installed
flash player i can watch the streams. When i install flash player,
i see only green and red blocks on the respective screen. I don't
know where the problem lies. I have installed Windows Media player
again, (also Flash player) but this hasn't worked. The streams work
    with Mozilla firefox.
I hope you could really help me,
    Sincerily,
    Tuncie

    Hi Tuncie
Verify that Windows Media Player is not set as the default
player for all content in Firefox including Flash.
Also, please respond with a URL for testing.

  • Problems with Windows Media Player and flash

It seems that since I've installed Itunes, whenever I try to play a video on a website, it will only go 3 seconds and then pause. This happens on streaming videos as well as things that are on YouTube and the like.
Do you think it's related? Any ideas?
Also, it seems that sound is now disabled when I try to play audio off of those clips too. I do most of my browsing with Mozilla, but it appears to do the same in Explorer.
Do I need to update drivers or something?

  • MS Windows Media Server and PIX/ASA upgrade

I've just replaced a PIX 515 with an ASA5510 and have lost connectivity between a remote host running MS Windows Media Player trying to stream video back to a Windows Media Server behind the firewall.
I've opened all TCP/UDP ports inbound to the server from any source IP, to no avail. When I put the PIX 515 back, the problem goes away. Port blocking is not the issue, since all inbound ports are open from any IP.
Is there an 'inspect' statement or some other configuration in the new ASA that needs to be added, so it will pass the video stream as it works in the PIX 515?
Will Cisco TAC assist in an issue that may or may not be application related?
Thanks for any tips or direction,
    Marc

    I fixed it:
CSCsd82714 Bug: RTSP fails with Windows media player
    Symptom:
RTSP stream setup is failing with "inspect rtsp" enabled for clients to a
statically translated server behind the firewall
    Conditions:
Client on the outside is connecting to a server behind the PIX. The server
has a static configured and access-lists allowing this traffic:
    static (DMZ,outside) 172.16.1.1 10.1.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.255
    access-list outside_access_in permit ip any host 172.16.1.1
    access-group outside_access_i in interface outside
Setting up a connection, the client information is passed to the server.
The server information is passed back to the host. The host then sends a
reset before the SETUP message is passed
    Workaround:
Disable "inspect rtsp" within the configuration

it should work, according to this (rather old) discussion: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=2291517#post2291517.
Apple says in [this|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1461] support article:
    Requirements
A full, single-disc version of Windows 7 (Mac OS X v10.6 or later only), Windows Vista, Windows XP Home Edition or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later. Boot Camp does not include Windows. You must provide your own properly licensed installation disc. Important: A Windows XP installation disc must include Service Pack 2 (SP2). You cannot install an earlier version of Windows and upgrade to Windows XP, nor install an earlier version of Windows XP and update it to SP2. _*Media Center, OEM, and upgrade versions of Windows XP are not recommended*_.
but they don't say it's not possible.

  • Converting .OV to .ASF to play on a Windows Media Server

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to create a good quality video file from Final Cut Pro that will stream on a Windows Media Server. I am being told by the tech guys at my work that it needs to stream as an .asf file because we use a Windows Media Server for our media here.
I have searched but as far as I can tell there seems to be no direct plugin for Final Cut to export as an ASF or a WMV file.
I work for a college, and I use a Mac to create our videos, but most people use PCs here to do everything else - including our technicians and web developers - so most people here are in the dark.
I am really stuck here folks. Ideally, I want to be able to stream video files of about 60mbs on our college website - and find a way to have these videos running on a Windows Media Server.
Thanks a lot - if anyone can help me I would be extremely grateful.
    Simon

Thanks so much for all your responses.
I will trial the two programmes that have been mentioned - in terms of streaming .asf I am still in the dark as to the best way to proceed.
Would you all recommend converting first to a WMV file and then using a PC and related software to convert to .ASF - as I would have to do with Flip4Mac
Or... using software that will convert directly from .MOV to .ASF on a Mac - as the Aimersoft programme seems to suggest it does?
Thanks once again - I have been really impressed and really grateful with how quick these forums are to help people out!

  • Publish multiple files - WIndows Media Server 2008 R2

Hi all - apologies am new to Windows Media Server and just installed a test one on a 2008 R2 Server. I can easily publish a single file but the Project I am working on will need to make 200+ files available to users. I know I can publish a
directory where I place the files but is there an easy way once the directory is published for users to select the file they want. Each time I've done it, I seem to just get a playlist of all the files.
On my test client I am using windows media player 11.0
    Many thanks

Hello,Sometimes on my main file server if user1 on \\workstation1 creates a directory on \\server\share... User2 on \\workstation2 sometimes can not see the directory for 20 minutes. This only happens on Windows 7 machines. I still have a few Windows XP machines (don't ask) and this is not a problem on XP.Also if I log into the server I can see the data.So to recap say my boss adds a spreadsheet to a share and sends me an email to open the spreadsheet. When I browse to the share from Windows 7 the spreadsheet is not there, but will show up 20 minutes later. But I could go to another Windows 7 machine and the spreadsheet could be there. Also this happens with renaming directories. It happens randomly and not all the time. The file server

Is there a way to play a Windows Media Server Audio stream on

Not that I've ever heard of... you'd have to get that audio

  • Loadbalancing Windows Media Server

    Hello,
I was wondering if someone ever tried to loadbalance Windows Media Servers with an ACE blade. I know RTSP is supported by the ACE, but what about Microsoft MMS ?
Thanks for any comments or sample config
    Vincent

You can configure WLBS to load balance on multiple servers filtered to use single affinity, no affinity, or Class C. The best choice for Windows Media Server servers, which is a non-stateless application, is single affinity. When configured for single affinity, all incoming packets using the WLBS virtual IP address are locked to a specific node in the WLBS cluster. Every packet that is sent from the client using the cluster IP address connects to that node.

  • Safari, Windows Media Player, and Proxy Servers

I'm trying to watch streaming video of comedy central's Daily Show but its not working. I hit play and I get "-19422" in the play bar. I can't find anything about this anywhere online. I used to be able to do play these videos on my old computer but have had no success. It has to be in Windows Media Player format. I have Windows Media Player and have streamed from other sites. The only thing I have found is that the comedy central page requires a proxy to view streamng video. I have contacted my ISP and they say no such proxy is needed and I should be able to view the page. Am I suppose to guess on the proxy server? The comedy central site says it supports safari and apple computers but it doesn't seem like it. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have any ieas for solving this problem?
PS- This is what comedy central says.... Also my ISP is Time Warner Cable's RoadRunner
"If you are on a Mac, make sure your Player is set to only use the proxy, and disable TCP or UDP checking as this will cause timeouts.
If you choose the Use proxy option and do not know the proxy server name or port number you should use, contact your Internet service provider or network administrator. "

    Hi,
The videos work fine for me with Safari 2.0.2 and OS X 10.4.3. The section of the help file you quoted appears to be referring to a corporate firewall setup rather than a typical home setup - you shouldn't need to change any of the defaults for Windows Media Player.
A Google search for that error code you received mentions Flip4Mac in a couple of places - do you have that installed?
If so, try disabling it to see if that is the cause of your issues.

  • Playing back Recorded TV Programs using Windows Media Player and only hearing Sound from Front Speakers

    Hi All,
I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Service Pack 1 with Windows Media Player 11 installed.
When I click on one of my Recorded TV Programs to watch and hear, I can only hear the Sound coming from the Front Speakers.
When I right-click on the Program and open it up in Real Player Cloud. I can indeed watch the program and hear Clear Sound coming from all 5 Speakers plus the Subwoofer.
What setting do I change to use Windows Media Player and have sound coming from all 5 Speakers and the Subwoofer?
    Thank you!

  • Plugins for WIndows Media, Real Player, Flash, etc.

I've been having this problem for a while and am finally looking to do something about it. I' pretty sure that I have Windows Media Player, Real Player, and Flash Player installed on my Mac, but Safari never seems able to use them when certain webpages require them for media content. Sometimes I get a message from Safari asking if it should try Windows Media player, and then it plays fine. But If I have the plugins, shouldn't all internet media just play? What do I need to do so that each player will be used when needed?

Schmactor, each player has it's own preferences to set. Open each, one at a time and access the preferences from the "player" menu. If the "Windows Media Plugin" version 9.0 is not in Mac OS X disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins then it isn't installed correctly because Safari will list all the plugins that are in that folder.

  • Windows Media Player and OS X - No sound

    Hi,
I am running OS 10.4.3 on an iMac 20" 1.8. I have the latest version (9) of Windows Media Player and have been using it fine for the last while for times that I can't use anything else. Suddenly, last week it would not play audio on any of the video clips I have. When I launch a WMV file, the player gives me the message:
"This file may not play correctly because it was compressed with a codec that is not supported".
These are the same files that played fine last week, and still play fine on my MacMini. I have deleted WMP and reinstalled it. I have deleted all preference files that I could find and the WMP codec file in the Library/internet plugin folders, and re-istalled again. No luck. I keep getting the message and the file plays with no audio.
Any suggestions from some of you wise Mac users out there?
    Thanks,
    Tyler
