Window Opening Size
Hi People;
I have a window (Win1) which contains an Array of records. When I double click
on one of the records(rows), the display method starts a task (Win2.display)
which opens another window (Win2) which contains all of the record information.
At the beginning of Win2.display I explicitly set the width and height of the
window. It opens to the exact size I want.
I close Win2, return to Win1 and choose a diffent record from the array and
double click on that row.
This time Win2 opens to it's minimum size, not the size I set explicitly.
I close Win2 and double click again from Win1, This time it opens to the size I
want (i.e. the size I set in Win2.display.)
This behavior continues. On odd tries (1st,3rd, etc.) Win2 opens to the correct
size. On even tries (2nd, 4th, etc.) it opens to a minimum size. It is
consistent.
Any insight as to why this is happining and what I could do to correct it would
be appreciated.

I am ssuming you are talking about launching PDFs in Mozilla.
If my assumption is correct, please do the following to ensure that the Zoom Level is set to 100% on opening a PDF:
1. Launch Adobe Reader and navigate to Edit > Preferences.
2. Clik on the Page Display panel on the left.
3. In the right hand side window, change the Zoom level drop down to 100%.
4. Click on the Accessibility panel on the left, and check on the" Always use Zoom Setting" checkbox.
5. Select 100% in the dropdown.
6. Click on OK in the Preferences window.
7. Close all instances of Adobe Reader. Ensure that no process by the name of AcroRd32.exe is running in the task manager as well.
Try launching a PDF in the browser. Does this work?

I have this same issue in FF 3.6x and FF4 RC2. FF will not open to the size I closed it.
A little background; I run 2 monitors, (1280 x 1024) & (1920 x 1080). I use FF in the larger one but each time I open it, it sizes to 1280 x 1024. That's info I got from localstore.rdf. When I change the window size localstore does show it. I have put a size in localstore manually and it still takes it back to 1280 x 1024 when it opens. I've deleted localstore, reset FF to default and re-installed. nothing changes.
Does anyone have a way around this? Or a way to keep FF from changing the window size in localstore?

After updating Firefox to version 6.0.1, all browser windows open in full screen size. I need new browser windows to open in their original default size since I use a website for work that opens multiple browser windows.
I used to be able to fix this problem by renaming my localstore.rdf file in my profile and then restarting Firefox but this does not seem to work in this last update.
This appears to be a recurring problem for Firefox and it's extremely frustrating.Safe mode disables the installed '''Extensions''', themes ('''Appearance''') and '''Plugins''' in '''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > '''Add-ons'''. So it could be that an extension is causing it. You can try to isolate it starting with script blockers and similar extensions and '''Disable''' or '''Remove''' it.
Please also note that safe mode also disables hardware acceleration: '''Tools''' > '''Options''' > '''Advanced''' > '''General''': '''Use hardware acceleration when possible'''.

ML: No longer one can enlarge icon size in file dialog window (open, save)
There is this useful document preview used for displaying the file icons. This is important when I open PDF and image files. But in the file dialog window (open, save) the is no more the option to enlarge the size of the icons in icon view. Large icons are most import even on opening files, so I get a nice and detailled preview to choose the right file. But especially in the file dialog window the option has gone to set the icon size! What a mess! This makes no sense. Cannot use large icons (previews) where I need them most.
Open a new finder window. Click "View" menu select "Show Status Bar".

New windows open as something ridiculously small. How can I reset default window size?
New windows open in a space the size of a postage stamp. Quite literally. I have to grab them and expand them in order to even use them.
Firefox should remember the size of the last closed window. Once you have stretched it out to the desired size, make it the last window you close. Only the first firefox window opens in full screen, any subsequent windows I open are in normal size and I have to keep hitting the f11 key

Saving a modified PDF file making desktop window full size
I am running Acrobat Pro 9.5.5 and suddenly have a problem running Windows 7. When I invoke the SAVEAS command, a window opens up on my desktop to navigate what to call and where to store the file. The problem is now the window is full screen with no way to reduced the size of the window. The usual windows options for sizing in the upper right hand corner are gone.
Any direction on how to fix this would be greaty appreciated.Are you able to right-click on the very top of the dialog and select "size"?

I am trying to open a pdf file in a new window as soon as user clicks on a Arizona. I am able topen that pdf file in new window but after its opened in new window , my original window getting refreshed, thats not suppose to happen. This is happening because I kept href="".

I have a series of links in which I would like to open into a new page but when trying it out on a different computer it seems that the "window.open" behavior doesn't work on older browsers without Java (?) and it opens a new window but does not keep the current page open
but when i use the target_blank function i don't seem to be able to control the window size and wether or not there is a menu bar, etc... On my mac and on newer PC's there is no problem but on the older versions is when the issue arises and with my target demographics being what they are, I need the code to work on all platforms.any suggestions?? the links are designed for RSS feeds and here are the codes:

What makes the difference is that the user can turn off JavaScript in
the browser. Some people do this out of unwarranted fears about security.
And some people do it to prevent distracting fluff from interfering with content. I don't usually do that, but I do tend to turn it off in forums.adobe.com for speed. The forum is MUCH faster and more responsive with JS turned off. Unfortunately, you have to turn it back on for some of the functions (Post a message, Next, and Previous that I'm aware of).

Right-clicked links aren't marked and I cannot do other things with the Options window open
After upgrading to Firefox 4 yesterday, I've been able to solve most of my problems by changing settings or installing various add-ons. However, I still have two problems that I haven't managed to find solutions for.
Previously, when I right-clicked a link, the link would be marked with a dotted border that made it very clear exactly which link had been right-clicked. This marking still appears if I use the Tab key to go to a certain link, but if I use the mouse like I usually do, without using Tab, the marking is nowhere to be seen. Is there a way of getting this marking back?
I also have a problem with the Options window (the one found under Tools > Options). When I have that window open, I can't seem to use the Firefox window that I opened it from without closing the Options window. This is very annoying, as I might want to go to some website with information about certain options while the Options window is open. It also means that if I push the 'Help' button in the Options window, the help is opened in a new window instead of in a new tab in the previous window. I really don't like being forced to use several windows like that, and if I recall correctly, it wasn't like this in previous versions of Firefox. Is there any way of changing it?I've encountered the problem with the stretched images.
I solved it by making sure the images that I was importing were set to "Original Size" in the fitting.
(I initially had my images "Scale to Fit" in the box, I had larger images then the final box size)
You just have to go back and make your images are sized horizontlly to the boxs width.

Window.open always opens a child window with parent window propertiesin firefox 30
By clicking on a link my code uses window.open which should open the response in child window. I am not specifying any height and width(as per requirement). In firefox alone, the window takes up the properties of child window and opens with same size as of parent window. Is there a way to restrict Firefox from inheriting the properties of parent window?

Finder window opens with inconsistent view
Since I upgraded to Yosemite, Finder windows open with inconsistent size, position and view. After a power on a Finder window generally opens as a small, centrally-located window in Icon view even though preferences is set to always open in column view; sometimes the small window is in column view. Rarely, the first new window opens in the same size, position and view as the last one was before power off then the next one - opened using Command-N - opens as a small, central window in Icon view. In all previous versions of Mac OS, new Finder windows opened in the same size, position and view as the window I closed last on screen, even after a power off/on. Once I reset the window size, position and view to my preference, new windows generally open correctly.
Is there some setting I can change so new windows always retain the size, position and view as the last one closed?Do a backup.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Built a bunch of PDFs using Acrobat Pro 6 -
They are viewed in a web browser and use:
getURL("javascript:var myWin=window.open('http://www.website.com/myfile.asp', 'aWin', 'width=450,height=450,top=150,left=150, scrollbars=1, statusbar=0, menubar=0')");
to open a web page, with a fixed size.
The javascript links do not work in the current Reader.
What do I need to do?

PappyNot at all. You can edit your JavaScript in Acrobat 6.x but Acrobat 6.x just won't recognize the launchURL(); method. You could use Reader 9.0 to test the JS to make sure it's working after doing the edits.

I keep multiple windows opened and minimized. Sometimes when I click on the task bar to restore one, it apparently "disappears" out of view beyond the upper left corner of the screen. From then on, it can only be seen by using Maximize in the task bar. When Restore/Move/Size are clicked, the pointer just goes to the upper left corner of the screen with all combinations of clicking/dragging having no success. What causes this, and what can be done to move it back?
If a window disappear then using the system menu can make it reappear or make it possible to move that window in view. I don't know what causes it to make the window disappear in your case if it does work correctly if you start Firefox.
You can check the browser.link.open_newwindow prefs on the about:config page if you want to open all links in tabs in the current window.

My macbook air (version 10.9.4) display flickers, has random tabs and windows opening, and there are random ads almost everywhere. All this happens when I am using safari. What can I do?
1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
