Window Server crashes constantly

Hi,
After rebooting my MacMini (headless, no keyboard) with MacOS X Server 10.5.4, I was not able anymore to connect to the window server (VNC). The reboot was done because I installed CollabNet's subversion package and licked to modify the $PATH so /usr/local/bin comes first and edited /etc/paths (which did not work at all). I removed the subversion installation and reverted the /etc/paths changes, but the window server keeps crashing. But anyway, the installation of subversion and the change to $PATH should not harm the window server. Attached the log file:

Rik,
Unfortunately, I and several others have this issue as well. Apple has been notified, and all requests for updates result in "there is no new information at this time". 10.5.7 did not fix the issue for me.
The only "fix" that someone I know has had is to remove the "deny all" acl from all the share points/directories. Apple has been notified of this "fix" and considers it an "unacceptable workaround".
At this point, a few of us are working to escalate, but considering we notified them months ago about this, I have little hope this'll get fixed before 10.6. =(
Please do keep us posted if you figure out anything.
btw, here's my old thread on this: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8857952
None of the solutions posted helped, what-so-ever.

  • Mac Mini Window Server Crash randomly

I am using mini since around one year connected to 2 x 22" displays. It's a 09(3,1) model upgraded with 8G of RAM + OCZ SSD.
Since a while I started to have issues with WIndow Server crash. In general Mini became unstable lately, but I can live with Safari or Adium crashes, really can't afford Window Server crashes since that is my primary working machine and I do run lot of ssh sessions during the day.
At first, the crashes occurred mainly upon idle time, but lately they started to be more than annoying. I would not like to change the hardware yet since one year for a workstation hardware is not yet enough to be replaced.
Here are just recent system crashes logs:

I would like to point out here, that I use several mac machines (MBP, MBA, iMAC and Mac Pro) and mini is the only one which such problems.
I would greatly appreciate any help on the subject.
    Cheers,
    /Jacek

    Hi Jacek,
We have a late 2010 Mac Mini Server which after some weeks started to crash randomly. It hung the system with everything frozen, clock stopped, etc. When the summer heat came with room temperature up to 29 °C the Mac Mini became more severely affected by the crashes. Once it could run five weeks without a crash. Later it crashed even during the boot process. Sometimes it could crash five times or more in a day even without any load on it.
I left it for Apple service and they told me a faulty Airport circuit board could make these crashes and replaced it.
However, as soon as the Mac Mini went back to work the same old crashes appeared again.
With the Mac came a "Diagnostics EFI 3X107" which could be copied to an USB and booted from USB. This will test a lot of things in the Mac. Now it crashed repeated times always within 18 minutes!
The server was returned to Apple service. Now they said they have replaced the whole CPU and logic board. Today we will collect it and give it a try again.
Maybe you have the same problem?
    Johan

  • Window server crashing mountain lion?

So my computer has crashed I think 5 times today, and I'm not sure what is going on.  I've had a problem with it crashing before, and people on this forum said the problem was with Parallels.  However, I'm still having problems after uninstalling Parallels, so I'm guessing that something else is causing the problem.  My crash logs (below) seem to indicate that the problem is with "window server."

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to bare metal from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Windows Server crashes

I have had my rMBP crash several times after closing it for the night. I read about numerous issues with sleep on OS X but always believe their is a solution to every problem. I have been watching my console recently and noticed a few issues I was able to resolve via searching long enough and figuring out what is causing them. I wanted some input, as I was having difficulty searching for console problems, if anyone has seen this and knows what is causing all the WindowServer invalid window errors. This instance shows HyperDock not being pleased, but I believe it has happened with others.

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that a user open 45-60 Excel files that stored in Windows Server 2003 by using the Excel 2013 at same time, the Windows Server 2003 crash, not the Excel 2013 crash. But if use Excel 2003, the server did
    not crash.
If it is right, I recommend you upload the event log and Windows Server dump file to do further research.

  • Apple file server crashes constantly

I connect my xserver to m$ AD and use acl's - this seems to work fine until recently. I have started to use the acl's to deny permissions to certain directories. Now i seem to constantly get apple file server errors and it randomly kicks everyone off the server every morning - if i restart all will work until the following morning.
Initially i thought it was because there was no slapd.conf - fixed this and all seemed well. However now am getting this issue:

    Rik,
Unfortunately, I and several others have this issue as well.

    Thank you,

That panic was not caused by third-party software. If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are:
    A damaged OS X installation
A fault in a peripheral device, if any
    Corrupt non-volatile memory (NVRAM)
An internal hardware fault (including incompatible memory)
An obscure bug in OS X
You can rule out the first two possibilities by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation (after erasing the startup volume) may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place, without erasing.
Corrupt NVRAM, which rarely causes panics, can be ruled out by resetting it as directed in this support article.
If your model has user-replaceable memory, and you've upgraded the memory modules, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Aftermarket memory must exactly match the technical specifications for your model. Memory that is either slower or faster than specified may be incompatible.
The Apple Hardware Test, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
If none of the above applies, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least  two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS + User profile Disks + App-V = Explorer.exe crashing all of the time

I have built a new RDS farm on Windows Server 2012 R2 with two Session Hosts and a combined Connect Broker/Web Access server. I had the farm up and running with User Profile Disks and all seemed OK. However, as soon as I installed the App-V 5.0 SP2 RDS
client on the session hosts, the explorer.exe process started crashing for any user logging in via the Web Access site. The process crashes and restarts every five to ten seconds. It's the same for administrators. If they log in via Web Access explorer.exe
crashes, but if they RDP directly to one of the session hosts explorer.exe is fine. If I reboot the session hosts, then the first user to log in via Web Access has a stable desktop session (and appears to have a new profile as well). However, if that user
logs out and back in again, explorer.exe starts crashing again. The only applications I have packaged at the moment are Office 2013 and Firefox.
I tried disabling User Profile Disks, but this caused a whole bunch of other problems and I eventually lost the ability to log in at all via Web Access (errors about the user profile service). As this is a small pre-production environment I completed scrapped
all of the servers and rebuilt from scratch. Again, everything appeared fine until I installed the App-V client, then explorer.exe started crashing repeatedly for all users.
Has anyone come across this issue before? I have tried installing the App-V 5.0 SP2 Hotfix Package 2, but this didn't help. I have read in a few forums that App-V doesn't work very well with User Profile Desks, but I have not heard of this particular issue.
Similarly, SP2 seems to have a lot of problems, so I am going to try removing App-V RDp Client SP2 and installing SP1. I ahev also deleted User Profile Disks for the test users to recreate their profiles, but this didn't help either.
    Any other suggestions welcome!

  • Windows Search Service Crashes on Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hi,
I'm running Windows Search service on a Windows Server 2012 R2 (24GB RAM, 8-core proc). The index catalog has a little over 2 million items (files and folders indexed).
Every once in a while this service crashes, and either remains in limbo or automatically recovers and restarts the index from zero. I'm trying to find out information about what may be causing the crashes and about how to prevent them. Unfortunately, I don't
seem to be able to find much about the Windows Search service on Windows Server 2012 R2. So anyone who may have input on this, please chip in.
    Additional info:
    - As mentioned above, the server OS is Windows Server 2012 R2. This is a physical server with 24GB RAM, 8-core proc and over 2TB of storage.
    - This server acts as a DC and as a File Server. In addition to this and Windows Search service, there are no other major services running here
    - Symantec Endpoing protection is installed and running on this server, but I've made sure to exclude the Window Search database from SEP
Here are some of the errors that are generated when the issue happens:
The error below may show up in the event logs. If it shows up more than once, the indexing service has likely crashed and won't recover.
    Log Name: System
    Source: Service Control Manager
    Date: 1/23/2015 3:32:15 PM

    Description:
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the WSearch service.
I attempted to stop the indexing service, but it didn't stop. I noticed though that the indexing GUI started responding as soon as the
the service stop command failed. The indexing service seems to have picked up where it was (~300K items) and continued indexing.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9.41 Pro+ on Snow Leopard 10.6.5 + Network users (Windows server 2008) = CRASH!

Adobe Acrobat 9.41 Pro will work “great” on the admin account, however through the active directory log on of network users, every user gets the long crash report upon opening the application.
Permissions are set so “everyone” can gain access, however the crash issue is not a decent setting on the Mac environment.
Will welcome any thoughts..comments… and suggestions.
    Thank you-

    OS: Snow Leopard 10.6.5
Active Directory Setup: Windows Server 2008 - Log in for network users
Adobe Acrobat: version crash 9.3 and 9.4.1
Admin of the Mac computer can log in and use the Adobe Acrobat Professional software, however when a network user
Tries to log on the computer and open the Adobe Acrobat 9.3 or 9.4 the software hangs....for 7-8 seconds then displays a crash report, and options are send to apple.
Permissions on every Adobe Acrobat folder on the computer are set to read/write for every user of the program.
Software Type: Using the DVD purchase with the Education program, and the serial number does accept, and download the software from the Adobe web page.

  • Windows Server 2008R2 crash, 0x50 (0x461f20c, 0x0, 0x77446b59, 0x8)

As the title states, we had a crash with the following stop code message:
"The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x00000050 (0x000000000461f20c, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000077446b59, 0x0000000000000008). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 081610-34257-01."
The Server has Hyper-V installed and was hosting one Server 03 VM at the time.  The only third party known software installed was Symantec Endpoint Protection, though it also has a SCOM/DPM/SCCM agent installed.  No SCCM deployment was running
or at a deadline, nor was it time for a DPM backup.  I found a couple of different hotfixes that may or may not be relevant and I also have the bugcheck report below.  Any help on figuring out what is needed would be appreciated.  As of now
there has only been one failure, but this server hosts for production, and is part of a set of identical servers, so we are pretty nervous.

    Hi,
Based on your description, I suggest you should firstly go to Event Viewer and check if you can find some detailed clues. Meanwhile, please let me know the completed
error message that you can get.
In addition, would you please let me know the Windows Server 2003 R2 that you use is 32-bit OS or 64-bit OS? The Splwow64.exe will load files from C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers.
Please compare with a normal computer and check related DLL files if all are OK under the folder.
Then please check and update the printer drivers. Monitor if this issue still persists.
By the way, there is a similar question for Splwow64.exe. The questioner provided a solution. Please refer to and check if it’s helpful for your current situation.

    Hello Customer,
Thank you for using TechNet Forum, and also many thanks for Aaron's assistance.
Please note, this forum is for General questions on Windows Server 2008. I suggest you try to post Windows Server 2003 related issue to the Windows Server 2003 Newsgroup for your best serve:
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/newsgroups/serveros/win2003.mspx
    Thanks for your understanding.
Moreover, the blue screen is mostly caused by hardware or drivers incompatibility. I suggest you take a look at the following website
If the hardware appear to be on the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL):
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx
    Thanks.

  • Adobe Reader DC has errors and crashes with Windows Server 2012 R2

We recently installed Adobe Reader DC version of Adobe on our Windows Server 2012 R2 servers and are having issues since the launch. Few of the issues we have seen are as follows:
This version is a bit clunky and hangs.
Has a lot of pop-up boxes that appears each time I open a document.
Each time I open a document there is a Welcome pop-up box
It is a bit slow to respond between clicks
If I click on any options like File. The application hangs and then crashes. (see attached crash message)
Any help to resolve this would be helpful.
    Thank you

I just had the same issue on a 2012 R2 Remote Desktop server. I fixed it by creating a registry key called Privileged under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC and then creating a DWORD value in that key called bProtectedMode and setting the value to 0. This was on a brand-new server that never had a previous version of any Adobe software on it.
This is a major kludge. Hopefully Adobe will fix it soon. By the way, here's the crash signature we were getting:
    Problem signature:

  • Windows Server Backup - wbengine.exe Crashing

    Hi,
When running either a scheduled back or a once off backup, I receive the following error around 30 seconds into the backup:
"The Windows Server Backup service has stopped"
"A fatal error occurred during a Windows Server Backup snap-in (Wbadmin.msc) operation. Error details: The Windows server Backup service has stopped"
In event viewer the following two events were logged:

The Block Level Backup Engine Service service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 120000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
I have tired restarting the Block Level Backup Engine Service service, deleting the backup catalogue, removing and re adding Window Server Backup feature. None of these fixed the problem.
I used Debug Diagnostic Tool v2.0 and capturing all instances of wbengine.exe process:
    Loading control script C:\Program Files\DebugDiag\scripts\CrashRule_Process_wbengine.exe.vbs
    DumpPath set to C:\Users\administrator\Desktop\wbengineLogs
