Windowlab from staging and font problems...

When I try loading up windowlab, from a package from the staging repository, I get an error about lucidasans-10 not being available, and if I try the -font option I know not how to name to fonts, everything I try gives me an error.  If anyone else out there who uses this wonderful WM know how the -font option works or how to make it use the default font (which I do have installed), I would greatly apreciate the help.

Here's what I'm getting when I start blackbox... but at least it still loads and runs ok.

  • PDF and Font Problems 10.6.8

    Ugh.
    MBP13 7,1 (mid 2010) 2.4g C2D 4G Ram
I use Vectorworks 2011 to produce CAD drawings for customers and the plant. Recently I began having issues with my PDFs of my CAD not being fully distilled - various issues but primarily most dimensions not visible. I have read that PDF issues cropped up beginning with 10.6.7 and that certain PS fonts can be the issue. As well as outdated PDF readers used by my recipients. In a short-sighted fit of frustration I began monkeying with Font Book and Font Caches.
    My maladies are
    1. My PDFs are incomplete
    2. Received MS Office filed open "blank".  Now MS OFFICE 2011 no longer has common Fonts such as Arial and Times Nee Roman.
Can I fix this or do I need to go back to 10.6.6 and reinstall Office?
    Thanks in advance.
BTW this forum is surprising difficult to nav on an iPhone.

  • Pre-purchase Q's - Pagemaker features and font "problems"

I am running a PB G4 17" 1.5 gig memory with B/W Postscript printers and a Brother Inkjet. I have not purchased Pages but i have been following this forum for several days.
    Two pre-purchase questions.
I have used Pagemaker for a long, long time (my serial number is 02-201-xxxxx) going back to Mac SE's and II ci's. Pagemaker 7 will not run under 10.4.x even in classic (believe me I've tried, Adobe has tried and Apple has tried - but no luck). It will run classic under 10.3.x but I've come to the conclusion that it just ain't worth having a seperate FW start-up disk just for a decades old product.
I used Pagemaker primarily for marketing material, white papers, proposals and other documents that are mainly text with a few charts, graphs, callouts and some simple graphics. Some of the things that I liked was the "master" page concept (that is you could format and place text/objects on the master pages and they would appear on every page), that I had complete control of how the text "flowed" on a page (over, around, through and even over a graphic if I wasn't careful), and that I could "write" different parts of the document in a word processor and then "import" the text into Pagemaker making it flow wherever I wanted, even over multiple, non-contiguous pages.
Can I do this with Pages?
Second, since I've never used Pages i am not sure what the font/WYSIWYG discussions are all about. It seems that Pages does not display the text in the font/size/style selected. Am I correct or am I missing something?
    Thank you

    Hullo Pachyx:
To answer your last question first, I've been tempted to reply "OMG not this again!" to those who beat this old drum. It's a preconception from Appleworks and other programs, that you have to be able to run up all your fonts with the font name as a sample. Actually you can do this in Pages by piling all your fonts into a "favourites" collection; but frankly, why would you bother? Merely the font name is hardly sufficient sample to judge a font's usefulness, and if you're using fonts with any appreciation, you should really spend some time acquainting yourself with what you have before churning out fancified guff in them.
Sorry if you're of that ilk, but Pages does serious typography. Your access to fonts is - quickly, in actual use - via the Mac OsX font panel, immediately accessible from your tool bar or from Format / Font / Show Fonts in the menu. This does have the option to view a small sample of any selected font, but more importantly has an option in the cog-wheel box at the bottom right hand corner of it to "Manage Fonts." This brings up the Font Book, which has options to display an alpha-numeric sample of your font in any size you choose, the complete repertoire of your font to see all characters it has, or a custom option into which you can enter any text you choose to give a good view of your font in use: Like Ipso Lorum, or Caesar ad sum iam for te, whatever you prefer. There is also an option to view font info, and again you can bring up an alpha-numeric sample of reasonable, but not selectable, size by just double clicking on the font in Font Book; and there are other options back in the font panel to access any special features of the font, such as ligatures or alternative glyphs.
So anything you've heard about font deficiencies in Pages is nonsense. And Pages represents your typography, with all the right kerning details & etc on screen, as all too many programs don't. It takes a bit of detailed work, but you can also perform proper "leading" and kerning adjustment from the facilities that Pages provides. You've used what was a serious layout and publication program in Pagemaker. Pages is a new and worthy iteration of the same - for all the niggles you'll hear, that are endemic to software anyway.
So now to your first question. Of course it won't be easy to switch from anything you probably know like the back of your own hand. But you can, and the formula for success in this is to approach the new program afresh and on its own merits, and not befuddle your understanding of it with expectations of more of the same that you're used to. Pages provides many templates that may be useful on occasion, but might also primarily suggest the scope of what Pages can do. Once you've got the picture, and explored the menus, inspector panels and help, you'll find that the blank template will allow you a freedom that I doubt you'd find excelled much anywhere else at all.
As to the detail of that question. The answer really is that, although you will need to find new methods to do the same, you will find them readily enough to hand. I'd be inclined to recommend, though, that you first try these with new material, since reformatting a mixture of old and new will naturally enough require some fluency in the new environment to understand at a glance what needs to be done, and to recognise how to do it.
That said, it's a curiously sometimes intuitive, and at others an inscrutable interface. Do spend some time to savvy it before you begin to commit any serious project to it. Pages does to an extent rely on your setting up a basic page layout and other details from the outset. On the other hand, it does have a powerful "undo" facility, so there's no need to be afraid of messing about with it - which will generally show you more than all the help and manuals, and even overall these forums, which are really a consensus of our meddling with it too. It's also a program in its youth, and will ask you for some indulgence: and as yet the odd workaround you shouldn't really need.
But we don't all persevere with it for nothing. At root and core it's a beauty.
    Cheers.

  • Leopard and font problems

I have had my fonts default to courier when
printing, just like the others who have posted notices in recent
weeks. I wish I had never installed Leopard because I use FH
daily-- I don't understand Illustrator even though I have it. I
THINK in Freehand. I know I can change all my fonts to paths or
print form the PDF preview mode BUT I don't want to have to do
that. Anyway, I have another issue. I do a newsletter once a month
and the editor sends me the articles cut and pasted into eMails. I
have copied, cut and pasted the articles into FH beautifully up
until Leopard. Now I get all those crazy weird characters.
Apostrophes become "i"s, quotation marks become exclamation marks
and spaces get crosses in them. I am ready to scream! I don't want
to reinstall Panther but I will if I can't fix these issues.
Anybody got any answers? is calling Adobe Customer Support a waste
    of time?

For the garbled font problem you might try removing font
    cache files.
FontNuke will do the job. You can download the latest version
    here.

  • Photoshop CS (1) and font problems (Mac OS X Leopard)

A friend of mine has Photoshop CS (1) on his G5 (running on Leopard) and he says that he has font problems ONLY IN PHOTOSHOP. Bad fonts, missing fonts. Now, whether he uses a font management software or not is not important since that problem does not happen in other programs (like Illustrator). Are there issues between Photoshop CS and fonts.
    Thanks

CS1 works on my friend's desktop which runs on Leopard but it doesn't seem to work on a Macbook which runs on Leopard. We've installed it and it's reported that installation is complete but upon opening the program, an error message states that certain files had not been installed and to reinstall the program to recover them. We've tried reinstalling multiple times but to no avail. Any explanation?

  • KDE and fonts problem

Hi. KDE 3.5.2 doesn't respect my fonts configuration in /etc/fonts/local.conf. I don't want to have small fonts antialiased so I set it in that file. In gnome it worked, but in kde not. It doesn't work if i set it in ~/.fonts.conf and it doesn't work, when I set it in control center. Any ideas how to solve it?

I tried the DPI thing, but it did not help. I did not tried the font replacement thing, because going through all the fonts and changing them manually is quite a task. There should be some other way.
I tried to remove all my ubuntu font packages from AUR and installing stock, then back again to ubuntu in hope of restoring the settings, but it did not helped.
Thanks for your suggestions anyway. It was working before, so I just want it to get back to the state it was before. Unfortunately my knowledge in fonts is scarce.

  • Mail and font problems

I seem to be having major issues with fonts in Mail.
I have been using Entourage but would like to migrate over to Mail now that it provides Exchange support. I use my Macs working remotely and plugging into my companys Exchange server.
    - I have set up my font in preferences, 11pts in Trebeuchet
    - set up signature to be same size
All looks fine when I type and send.
When I receive a reply from my recipient (invariably on Outlook) the fonts have changed size, most especially my signature, increasing to anything from 14pts to 18pts.
My concern is that if this is how my client receives my email, or sees it like this in subsequent reply-to it looks awful and unprofessional, (esp as I work for a technology company).
Consequently I have had to go back to Entourage.
I have tried using a Terminal script to set Mails font size but this has not made any difference.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you

I am having the same problem, and it is even more bizarre in that not only are the fonts not rendering properly for the recipient, but they are all over the place, with different sizes throughout the email and the signature. It's so bad that my emails look like those threatening letters made out text cut out of newspapers and pasted on the page!!
    I have tried:
1 Creating a signature in the correct fonts and pasting a full point (period) at the beginning, then with each new email, starting to type after the full point. This worked prior to my upgrade to Snow Leopard.
2 Creating new stationery (given as a workaround in this thread) that didn't work at all.
The point is Apple, WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO BE ASKING FOR A WORKAROUND!!! This should have been sorted out by now. If other mail clients can make it work, why can't Apple??
It astounds me that Apple think this is OK. This is a recurring issue that many, many people have complained about. It's not even as if I'm using a problematic font, good old Verdana (which works fine in every other email client other than MacMail). I tried Postbox for a while and it worked beautifully... but I need to use Macmail because of my Daylite database.
Otherwise I would dump MacMail. And this is from one of Apple's biggest fans (my first Mac was a 2ci!).
Really fed up and unhappy with Apple.

  • ETQW segfault and font problems after glibc-2.15-3 update

Hi, hope someone can help with this.
If I upgrade glibc to 2.15-3 there is missing letters at the end of text fonts in the menus and ingame, plus this:
    etqw.x86[1060]: segfault at fffff7fd ip b74805fb sp accc80c0 error 4 in libgcc_s.so.1[b747b000+a000]
in kernel log upon exiting the game.
Reverting back to glibc-2.14.1-4 fixes the issues.
Any ideas on what's going on here? I'm running in 32bit 686 Arch.
Last edited by JinxterX (2012-01-21 16:48:16)

    Ok I dug deeper
Problem has got something to do with string function optimisation using SSE. There are a whole bunch of patches related to that in glibc 2.15.
    Like this one:
    http://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git; … d8b5d4faab
Urgh So anyway.. I just thought what the hell and produced a patch to remove ALL of them Love that diff command, reversed
all changes in sysdeps/i386/i686/multiarch directory between versions 2.14 and 2.15, then compiled from ABS, used the resulting
libc.so.6 in /opt/etqw and it worked, lol, no more missing characters at the end of in-game text, menus, chat etc.
Except there was still a segfault from libgcc when you quit the game, but if you rename that file and use the one in /usr/lib then it seems to like that
So.. glibc/sysdeps/i386/i686/multiarch/strlen-sse2.S needs investigation I reckon.

  • Am I the only user totally cheesed off with the service from Apple and the problems I'm having with my Mac

Since purchasing my Mac 18 months ago I have had recurring problems which I am unable to have resolved.
    (1)  My computer keeps crashing,
    (2)  files are unavailable on my time machine backup.
    (3)  From the start there were tens of thousands of items on the computer, (not mine)
    (4)  constantly running out of space
    (5)  When I delete those original files they keep coming back
    (6)  I've never had an satisfactory answer to any query
    (7)   I'm beginning to think I've been sold a recycled computer
How can I go about getting some genuine help
    This is stressing me out

The new iOS 8.1 will be released on October 16 (today).
Update all your iOS devices and most of your problems will probably be resolved.
    Good luck.

  • Anyone found solution to 10.5.2 upgrade and font problem?

I just upgraded to 10.5.2 and I'm having the same problem with fonts "disappearing." One in particular, ITC Zapf Dingbats--a standard font in use by graphics professionals everywhere. I'm using Quark 6.5.2.
Unfortunately, I upgraded to 10.5.2 at home and at work (MacPro work, iMac G5 home). Same problem now exists at both places. This is happening for me in Quark. I haven't tested other programs because I'm on a deadline.
I've cleaned disk caches, run Font Doctor, reinstalled original font(s), yes--restarting each time after doing a single change--checked forums, etc., upgraded font software, taken font software off (in case there was a conflict), reimported fonts into Font Book. You name it, I've tried it.
Only thing I ran across that might point the way to a solution is that the same thing happened with fonts on upgrade 10.3.
Because of deadlines, I ended up changing all of the ITC Zapf Dingbat fonts in a 60-page document to the body copy and used an old-fashioned bullet. It is not the optimal typographic solution, but the only one I could come up with to meet this deadline.
This is a huge problem for me as I haven't found a solution anywhere. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. I'm an experienced Mac User (since 1985), but I'm at my wit's end on what to try. And yes, I've even zapped the PRAM.
    Thanks,

See my response to this question in the other thread you posted it in here.

  • Flash CS5, Snow Leopard and Font Problems

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and might have a quick fix for it:
I have a couple of Flash projects that were originally built in CS3.  Last year I upgraded them to CS5 without trouble.  Recently I have upgraded my Macs to Snow Leopard, and when I open both of these FLA files in CS5 on Snow Leopard, some of the fonts are insanely distorted.
    Any ideas?

I had the same issue and discovered a quick work around (not great for the long term) that does not require OS downgrade.
    The first time Flash launches:
    1. create a new fla
    2. create a text box with the desired font that produces the issue
    3. type out every character (lower and UPPER case) include all punctuation and numbers
    4. Open any file that uses the font and you should be good to go
    Hope that helps.

  • Bought ipod from friend and having problems

i cant get my music on to the ipod
    i tried authorizing it
i want to put my music and videos on it but keep his music on it as well

Its an easy fix, you just need to restore it with iTunes.
Just start up iTunes, plug in the iPod, let iTunes recognize it, then restore it. Once its restored, you will have to unplug it from the PC and then plug it in the wall outlet so it can finish rebooting.
Then you should be good. Sometimes, it takes two tries...

  • Firefox and Font Problems

So, I upgraded to 10.5 today. I am running firefox 3.0 and after my upgrade, all of my fonts in firefox are messed up. Some of the letters are all squished together and the lines are spaced out really far, like when i do a google search. any ideas on how this can be fixed?

start by checking your fonts. have you installed any yourself? open Font Book and resolve duplicates and validate all fonts. this is often enough.
it that doesn't help, follow the troubleshooting steps in [this link|http://www.jklstudios.com/misc/osxfonts.html] (scroll to fonts 911).

The image itself has the answer
The user requests a page, and the action gets picked up by the Web Analytics service that runs on SharePoint.
The Web Analytics service logs this in the “.usage” files.
A Timer job called “Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Usage Data Import” by default runs every 30 minutes. It imports the logs into the staging database.
Each night the “Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Usage Data Processing” Timer job runs and transforms the data into the reporting database.
The last run time of the import from staging and the aggregation is logged in the Settings table in the Reporting database.
Usage and Health Data Collection Service Application collects Data about Usage and Health of your farm.
This information is used for Health Monitoring and this is also required for running the Web Analytics Service. If you do not have a Usage and Health Data Collection Service Application or your
Usage and Health Data Collection Proxy is stopped, you will not see any data in the Web Analytics Report

  • How to promote configuration in CRMOD across staging and production

    1.     If we make any configuration changes in production environment exactly after what time does these changes get reflected in staging environment? We understand it is every quarter but can Oracle confirm say July 2nd for April-May-June quarter. We need to know the exact date and time?
    2.     If we make any configuration changes in staging environment (to objects, picklist, layouts, workflows, reports) ,is this possible to promote those changes in production environment by downloading script from staging and uploading script into production? Is there any tool available for this ?
    3.     If we make any configuration changes in production environment (to objects, picklist, layouts, workflows, reports) ,is this possible to promote those changes in staging environment by downloading script from staging and uploading script into production?
    4.     If we want to have the same configuration of any live instance of existing customer, can we simply copy and paste or can we link through by any other tool/script into another customer’s instance?

This is the incorrect forum for this question, however I do that CRM staging environments are automatically 'refreshed' from production. I'm just not what that schedule is.
