Windows 2008 R2 - Poor performance of Task Scheduler with script

Hello,
I have some reports to make (using macro on an access database) every day. When I launch the command line on interactive mode (cmd windows) the process msaccess use 20% of processing and Excel use 2%. All working fine.
When I launch from the Task Scheduled, msaccess and excel use 0%. Command line and the account are the same.
I try to change the priority to realtime -> same result
I try to use a psexec -i (for interactive mode) -> same result
I put the account to the service group (log on as a service) -> same result (Processor scheduling adjusted for Background Services)
Any idea ?
Thx for your help

You should be able to use CreatObject method of VBScript. I'd ask them over here.

  • Server 2008 R2: Setting up a custom schedule with task scheduler

I am trying to schedule a task using Server 2008 R2 Task Scheduler
I've been googling and searching for an answer on how to do this. I could easily do it on Server 2003.
I need to run a program (custom) that updates some tables in a database.
I need to run it Monday thru Saturday at 20 minutes after the hour from 7:20 am through 5:20pm. Not on Sunday and not at night (only normal business hours)
These are the steps I am following: I create task, General, I enter the description, Then triggers, new, select weekly, select start date and time, select the days I want (every day except sunday), repeat the task every hour, for a duration of (all I can
choose is 12 hours).. This is where I am stuck. I guess I could choose 12 hours but I need it to stop at 5:20 pm not 7:20pm. Has anybody done something similar to this?

Go ahead and choose something appropriate in dropdowns on Edit Trigger then over-type them with whatever you want.

  • Task Scheduler & EMS script

    Hi All,
I am trying to get Task Scheduler to run a script that needs to be run throught the exchange management shell but can't get it to work. If I run it just using powershell it runs but I don't get the correct results as some funtionality needs EMS.
    I have followed this article:
http://mikepfeiffer.net/2010/02/creating-scheduled-tasks-for-exchange-2010-powershell-scripts/ but it doesn't work. I have looked at other article as well and they all say similar thiings.
    Here is my line:
    C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -command “. ‘E:\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\bin\RemoteExchange.ps1′; Connect-ExchangeServer -auto; D:\PowerShellScripts\mailboxcount3.ps1″
This matches the information in the above webpage.
Any ideas what I am missing or doing wrong?

I see smartquotes. Those will always break.

  • Windows 2008 R2 ODBC connect to Oracle Linux with 11g db

    Hi
i installed a fresh oracle linux and installes 11.2.0 database server. the server works fine but i have a proplem to connect to the database from a windows 2008 r2
client. For the client connection i installed the oracle instantclient on the windows system. Now i want to configure the system dsn to connect to the oracle
    server like this
    data source description: vSphere 64
    description: ----
    TNS Service Name: VCDB
    user id: system
then i go to TEST connection
    Service Name: VCDB
    user name: system
    Password: mypassword
so i copied the tnsnames.ora from the server to the client
    then i get

here´s my tnsnames.ora from the client

    (SERVICE_NAME = vcdb.vmware)
i tested serveral config´s but nothing works. I can ping the server and also i cn telnet the server on port 1521. The listener on the server works fine

"connectstring" is not a valid attribute with Oracle's ODBC driver, so since there is no datasource attribute specified, the app is trying to connect to a local database, and since you don't have one, you get 12560.
To resolve the problem, pass DBQ=      instead of  CONNECTSTRING=

  • Poor Performance 7.0 Workbook with multiple queries

    Hi all,
I've got the following issue. Our users have workbooks which contain serveral queries on different sheets. (One on each workbook sheet)
When a workbook contains 5 or more queries, the overall workbook performance will decrease drastically. Workbook with 8 or more queries result in time-outs and messages like unsufficient shared memory.
Does anyone have the same kind of problems with multiple queries in a Bex 7.0 workbook? Do any one have a solution?
    Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks!
    Cheers,
    Ron

    Bill,
Tried to make a workbook according to your advise. It certainly makes a difference in workbook size. The new workbook is 50% smaller than the older version based on the standard SAP template.
However, my workbook contains 17 queries, and after 5 minutes it breaks the BW connection. So basic conclusion is that BW 7.0 workbook can't work with a large number of dataproviders/ queries.  This did work in BEx BW 3.x.
If any one has any other suggestion, more than welcome.
    Cheers,
    Ron

Basically, I have a lot of input fields, eventually also date choosers, and textareas in each of those item renderers.
Is there a reason this is not performing well ?
Is there something I can do to improve the performance ?

    Thanks for the hints.
Regarding TileLayout vs HorizontalLayout, I haven't seen much difference in performance.
But I did manage to make everything go faster **.
1st: not using the StageText on the TextInput's (changed that).
2nd: there was a font using CFF on the Label fields, which wasn't supported (changed that).
I'm not sure if those are what made the diff, but I'm happier!
**: Might be almost viable like this.
In all, I'm going to have about 7 custom item renderers in the List, but only 1 is visible at the time on screen (taking the whole visible area of the List). Some of the pages (i call them pages in such a case) will have some components that will be more elaborate, like permitting someone to do simple drawing within a region.
Yes, I'm imagining that the List component still will have them in memory and maybe recycle them if he's smart, thus making it heavy whenever it creates them. Would be interesting to see if I can optmize the creation of the itemrenderer instances. I'm still not that keen about using this approach of using a List to support such a user experience.
It  would have loved it if the ViewNagivator could better support sliding between Views, but I understand it would require the ViewNavigator to know which View will be the next View, etc.. Maybe something like a ListNavigatorView or something like that
    Details for now.
Regarding using a Edit mode, I'll keep that in mind and see if it makes sense in this app and how the user experience will be with such a mode.
Regarding using the HGroup for padding of the TextInput vs using a custom layout or custom component. You probably have a point. I'm kind of new to the Spark world, been using MX since Flex 2 and kind of got scared of the Spark world... No I'm diving head first. Thus, thanks for the hint on that. I'll digg and find some docs about the details on that!
    Thanks again!

  • Poor performance on RAID 0 with P965 Platinum

Hi guys, I think I'm having problems with my RAID configuration, I have two ST3320620AS of Seagate, and they have these performance in single mode: http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=comparacaokw7.jpg
But when I made a Raid 0 configuration, using the ICH8 controller, my benchmark increase just a little: http://img115.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hdtachraid0fj4.jpg
And the worst point is that generally it becomes worst every time I run this benchmark a second time, putting average read near 100MB/s
I was expecting something like: Average Read: 130MB/s
                                               Burst Speed: 430MB/s
That is, more or less, 90% of the worst bench in a single drive...
    Tks for now guys...!!!

    Hi guys...
Yeah, it not very, very bad, it is good at all, but I was thinking that using RAID I would reach at least 180% of the speed of the worst disk alone... :(
I tried to find some other benchmarks on Elite Bastards as HenryW said, but I didn't find it... :(
Anyway I found some other benchmarks and realise that my average isn't very good, but my burst is good!!!!!
Other strange thing is that other benchmark tools report other speeds!! It is very strange... :(
And my system seems to be better to.... Anyway if I discover a way to increase the speed I'll post here for everybody...
    Thanks Guys....

  • Windows 2008 R2 - You have been logged on with Temp Profile

    Hi Guys,
One of our Server which was running Win2008 R2 crashed due to power & ups failure.
I reinstalled the OS and restored System State backup since then whenever i login to the server i get this message, please check the screenshot and suggest.
Maqsood Mohammed Senior Systems Engineer MCITP-Enterprise Admin & ITILv3 Foundation Certified

Have you checked logging on to the server with another domain account ? do you have same problem ?
Also verify server time is in sync with the DC.
Try recreating the affected user profile on the server in question and see if that makes any difference.
Log on to the server with an administrator account.
Rename the affected user profile  say, User to User.old or whatever you like
    Reboot the server
Log on with the affected user account which will create a new user profile on the server.

    Hi Blisk1,
    Thank you for your update.
I would like to suggest you refer to the link below to check the issue (although it applies to Windows xp):
HOW TO Troubleshoot Scheduled Tasks in Windows XP:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308558
As I know, if the service is not configured to log on as the local system account, it may not start.
To check the settings for the service:
    1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Administrative Tools.
    2. Click Computer Management.
    3. Expand Services and Applications, and then click Services.
    4. Right-click the Task Scheduler service, and then click Properties.
    5. On the General tab, make sure that the startup type is set to automatic, and that the service status is Started. If the
service is not running, click Start.
    6. On the Log On tab, make sure that the local system account is selected, and that the Allow service to interact with desktop
check box has a check mark.
    7. Click OK, and then quit Computer Management.
    Hope it helps.

    Hallo,
maybe my problem is by design, but I hope anybody has a solution to improve the transmission speed between Windows 2008 R2 Guests.
In my Test-Environment I have 2 Windows 2008 R2 Guests on 2 ESXi Hosts with Intel 10 GBit Nics which are Cross-Connected.
Between these VMs the maximimum transmission rate with iperf is 2.1 Gbits/s (Debian: 9.28  Gbits/s).
    Iperf windows Setup

RSS works in my Tests on 2 vCPUs
To verify my results I installed 2 Debian 7.6 Guests with open-VM-Tools and VMXNET3 vNIC
    Test Results:
Iperf: 9.28 Gbits/s (with default windows Size)
    NetIO: 430 MByte/s (with 32k Packets)
To verify my results I installed 2 Windows 2012 R2 (without Patches) VMXNET3 vNIC
    Test Results:
    Iperf:2.3 Gbits/s (with 128k windows Size)
    NetIO: 420 MByte/s (with 16k Packets)

Well, if you could reach 8.9 Gbits/s with these settings then I guess it's alright and I should rather say iperf requires a lot more custom tuning of options to reach a similar level of efficiency under Windows compared to it's Linux counterpart, which barely requires any custom options for maximum throughput.
I have tried the psping utility and it achieved better results than untuned iperf tests, though results were mixed overall:

  • SQL 2005 x64 poor performance after migration from SQL 2005 x86

Recently We've migrated SQL 2005 x86 SP1 Enterprise running on Windows 2003 Enterprise to new hardware where is running Windows 2008 SP2 and SQL 2005 x64 SP4 with CU3.
In the work day, there are sometime SQL excpetions like this below. On other hand i can also tell that we already found some queries which has some inner joins and where clauses on nvarchar fileds, because of the nature of application. Such a query
is running for about 11 seconds on old SQL server, and about 6 minutes on new SQL server. My main question if is this possible just with a change to new architecture of SQL and more last patches and updates for SQL 2005. Is there any way how to get
this queries running faster, without rewritng them with new ones? Is this also possible this could be also cause for SQL exceptions, which we are facing on SQL server?
About new hardware, for now we can't find it something wrong. There is basic configuration:
    Cisco UCS  C220 M3S (1U server)
    32GB RAM
Intel(R)Xeon® CPU [email protected], 6 core
Disk system: 4xSAS 300GB in RAID5 (OS and DATA) and 2xSATA 1TB in RAID1 (SQL backup)
RAID controller: LSI MegaRAID SAS 9271-8i (with latest driver and firmware)

Check the SQL error log for any related stack dumps or messages. This exception forces SQL Server to shutdown. To recover from this error, restart the server (unless SQLAgent is configured to auto restart).

You need to perform basic performance tuning steps in the new environment.
    Software optimization:
    http://www.sqlusa.com/articles/query-optimization/
    Disk optimization:
    http://www.sqlusa.com/bestpractices/configureharddisk/
    Memory optimization:

REBUILD INDEXES, eliminate missing indexes & UPDATE STATISTICS.
If there is still a problem, look in Activity Monitor for expensive queries. Optimize them. As a general rule, you don't want to have expensive queries in RDBMS.

  • Task Scheduler Security Option - Run if user is logged in or not

using Windows Server 208 R2 Terminal Server - Running .NET 4.0 programs
We are running .NET 4.0 Windows Forms programs using Task Scheduler with the Security Option - Run whether user is logged in or not.
When the Task Scheduler starts these jobs they either not not run or they fail.
    Questions:
    1. What shell is used by Task Scheduler with the setting "run whether user is logged in or not" ?
    2. Is there some way to detect this shell or environment in a .NET program?
I am trying to determine if I can modify the .NET programs so they will run in this shell with no errors.
    Thank you
    MisterT99

    Hi Mister,
In addition, Since you need to launch a GUI application through Task Scheduler, so this task also need to run interactively.
However, if the item "Run whether user is logged on or not" is selected, tasks will not run interactively, so we need to select the "Run only when user is logged".
I recommend you can change the item "Change user or group" in security option and add a group, which will make sure your application will run interactively for all users in the group when the users logon.

  • Task scheduler missing from Restricted/Permitted snap-ins?

    Hi all,
We are using Active Directory 2008R2, and recently we have a issue about GPO. The situation is:
We enabled the  "Restrict users to the explicitly permitted list of snap-ins" for some users(Windows XP and Windows 7), it located at "User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Microsoft Management Console". After then, these
users could not open task scheduler anymore, it noticed "The snap-in below, referenced in this document, has been restricted by policy. Contact your administrator for details."
I tried to enable permit use of task scheduler but just could not find it from "Restricted/Permitted snap-ins".
Is this sort of a bug or I went to the wrong place? Does anyone aware of this? Any feedback is appreciated!

    Hi,
Yes, there is no exist setting to explicitly permit Task Scheduler if you enabled "Restrict users to the explicitly permitted list of snap-ins". As a workground, you can use some custom adm file. You can refer to this link for a sample:

  • PCMCIA gigabit cards are poor performance with lenovo n100

    Hello,
I have a lenovo n100 and I tried two pcmcia gigabit cards (Dlink DGE 660TD and TRENDnet TEG-PCBUSR) with very poor performance. I tested with iperf (cat6 cable with Siemens Sinergie S300 server) and Windows, linux, normal config, tunned tcp parameters, the outcome is always the same, 200Mbits upload and 76Mbits for download.
    Any sugestion?
    Kind regards,

There is two type of PCMCIA, one is running at 16 bit another is running through 32 bit.
You can achieve the gigabit requirements quite comfortably with the 32 bit, but i think the 16 bit version is not going to be enough for the gigabit ethernet.
Running at Mhz??? I don't understand how that is anything to with data bandwidth.
Both are pcmcia2, 32 bits, gigabit ethernet, full duplex, cards.
    The peak transfer rate is calculated by <bus speed MHz> * <bus width> = <Mbps>
    Example:
Bus speed 33MHz, Bus width:  32bits
    33 * 32  = 1056 Mbps or 132MBps
Bus speed 667MHz, Bus width:  32bits
    667 * 32  = 21344Mbps or 2668MBps
The lenovo N100 has a 32 bit bus with 667MHz.... no limitation here.
