Windows 2008 R2 / ESXi 5.5 - 10 GBit Network Performance
Hallo,
maybe my problem is by design, but I hope anybody has a solution to improve the transmission speed between Windows 2008 R2 Guests.
In my Test-Environment I have 2 Windows 2008 R2 Guests on 2 ESXi Hosts with Intel 10 GBit Nics which are Cross-Connected.
Between these VMs the maximimum transmission rate with iperf is 2.1 Gbits/s (Debian: 9.28 Gbits/s).
Iperf windows Setup
Server
iperf -s -P 0 -i 1 -p 5001 -f g
Client
iperf -c <SERVER> -P 1 -i 1 -p 5001 -f g -t 10 –w 128000
While testing with NetIO the maximum transmission rate was 397 MByte/s (with 32k packets).
ESXi Configuration
Version: 5.5 Build 1623387
NIC: Intel 82599EB
driver: ixgbe
version: 3.7.13.7.14iov-NAPI
firmware-version: 0x8000014d
bus-info: 0000:81:00.1
PowerPolicy: BIOS OS Controlled / ESXi High Perfomance

netsh int tcp set global timestamps=Enabled
VMXNET3 Configuration
RSS enabled
RSS works in my Tests on 2 vCPUs
To verify my results I installed 2 Debian 7.6 Guests with open-VM-Tools and VMXNET3 vNIC
Test Results:
Iperf: 9.28 Gbits/s (with default windows Size)
NetIO: 430 MByte/s (with 32k Packets)
To verify my results I installed 2 Windows 2012 R2 (without Patches) VMXNET3 vNIC
Test Results:
Iperf:2.3 Gbits/s (with 128k windows Size)
NetIO: 420 MByte/s (with 16k Packets)
Well, if you could reach 8.9 Gbits/s with these settings then I guess it's alright and I should rather say iperf requires a lot more custom tuning of options to reach a similar level of efficiency under Windows compared to it's Linux counterpart, which barely requires any custom options for maximum throughput.
I have tried the psping utility and it achieved better results than untuned iperf tests, though results were mixed overall:

Windows 2008 R2 Driver for HP Laserjet 8150 - Network Connect Fails With 0x000004005 Error
Dear All,
I'm trying to connect to a network laserjet 8150 with Windows 2008 R2. The server keeps complaining that it can't access a suitable driver - even if I point it specifically to the universal printer drivers available on the HP web pages.
Connecting to the printer manually with a new TCP/IP port seems to work but I need to be able to use the 'right-click, connect' option as the printer is not using a standard port for normal use.
Any ideas anyone?
Many thanks.

I have a windows 2008 standard server in which the default OS performance counters counters processor, memory, logincal disk are missing.
I tried using exctrlst.exe tool. This tool shows that the respective performance counters are already enabled but when I check in perfmon.msc, these counters are not visible.
I also tried to rebuild the performance counters from the OS disk. but it did not worked. still the counters are missing.
Because of these counters are missing, am unable to monitor the utilization of CPU, memory and disks.
any suggestions, workaround, recommendations or solutions. it will be more helpful and highly appreciated !!!!.

GK.

Windows 2008 R2 will not install on ESXi 4.0 Update 2
Hello,
I am attempting to install Windows 2008 R2 from an iso downloaded directly from Microsoft on ESXi 4.0 update 2. The server is a C210-M2. The iso is booting to the initial install screen properly, but when electing to install I am immediately prompted with "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing." (See attached image)
Wondering if anyone has come across this issue yet and what steps need to be taken to install the OS properly.
Thanks!Guys,
What you want to do is ensure you have the driver loaded in virtual media when installing the OS. See step 12 in the link below from the Cisco support page.

Hi All,
Operating System: Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1
H/w: VMware virtual machine vmx 09
Installed: File server role with "Services for network file system"
Server for NFS and Client for NFS services and up and running.
But when I try to create an NFS share using the folder properties the NFS Sharing tab is missing.
I tried to provision an NFS share using server manager "New NFS share folder cannot be created"
Noticed Event ID 1015 from NFSserver " Server for NFS was unable to validate licensing information at this time, the server will be nonfunctional until this information can be validated"
Tried to create the NFS share using command line but that too failed.
Request all to kindly assist me in isolating and fixing this issue.

NFS server is so weak (especially for 2008 R2) and keeping in mind you run that all hosted by VMware ESXi the best thing you can do is to get rid of using Windows as a NFS server completely and spawn a FreeBSD or Linux VM with a decent and recent version
of Samba.

I am trying to get a new Windows 2008 R2 cluster to work on two VMware servers (VMware ESXi 5.0.3) and am experiencing some form of timeout issue during the creation of the cluster according to the logs.
All validation checks pass successfully, whether trying to create a single node or dual node cluster, but the same error message is seen when creating the cluster. I have tried various suggestions found but none of them have made a difference. In an effort
to further diagnose the issue I enabled the following diagnostic logs:
- FailoverClustering
- FailoverClustering-Manager
- FailoverClustering-Client
The only useful error I can find is in the FailoverClustering-Client log which reports an error 'Couldn't resolve tcp binding to cluster' for each physical node to be part of the cluster.
In order to further diagnose the cause of the issue, I am looking for any options for increasing logging when attempting to create the cluster. Is there a way to increase the logging to see what the actual timeout is occurring with?
Alex.Sorry, I should have been more clear ...The servers I am attempting to create a cluster with are Virtual Servers running on a VMware ESXi (5.0.3). They have access to two shared disks (connected to each VM using a separate SCSI Controller from that for the
disk used to install the OS) with Virtual SCSI Bus Sharing set within VMware.
Each Virtual Server has two NICs configured (with static IPs) - one for internal (domain connectivity) and the other for heartbeat connectivity. The servers can ping each other via both interfaces, as expected, but only domain connectivity works via the
internal NIC.
I have tried creating a single node or dual node cluster and get the same error each time. When the cluster is attempting to be created I can see the new computer object is created in Active Directory (which is then deleted when the cluster creation fails)
and I have also tried pre-creating the computer object and specifically setting permissions on it.
When creating the cluster I have tried via the GUI and via PowerShell (both with and without the option to attach the shared storage) but always get the same type of timeout error message. I am hoping there are further debugging options that can be used
to provide a better output as to what the timeout is occurring with. -
Persistant Bindings w/M81KR in Windows 2008 R2
Have a customer that is using a B250 with the M81KR for a backup server. The server can see all the disks and tapes however, does not have a persistent binding. Already enabled persistent bindings within the service profile. The devices are still losing there bindings and corrupting the backups. Is there a utility like Onecommand or SANsurfer for the M81KR for this server? Already tried both and neither sees the HBA's.

CUCM 8.6 Installation on VMWare Workstation 9.X On windows 2008 R2
Hi
Iam trying to intall CUCM 8.6 on Vmware 9
i get installation fail, I have attached screenshot for your reference
what iam doing wrong ? is this possible to intall Windows 2008 R2 and Vmware 9 workstation ?
any advice will be helpfull to solve my issue.
OS : windows 2008 R2 64bit
Vmware : 9 workstation
Ram: 16GB
HDD : SATA 1TB
Processor : Xeon Quad Core.
Thanks
BalajiHi,
The host OS should not matter as that will not be visible to CUCM's hardware detection script, it's more likely that the guest OS choice (i.e. which variant of Redhat Linux) or physical CPU may not be compatable.
Normally when instaling CUCM you would use an OVA Tempalte when creating a CUCM VM using ESXi:
http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=283782839&flowid=26422&softwareid=283088407&release=8.6(1)&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest
This has the the exact guest OS settings CUCM Expects, you could carry on with trial and error to see if you can homefully get the correct settings. The following information from the Cisco Wiki on virtualising CUCM may be a useful reference:
http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_Communications_VMware_Requirements
Personally I recomend you bite the bullet and use ESXi, the free variant works a treat with CUCM, the main issue may be if your hardware is in-compatable (i.e. ESXi does not have the built-in drivers).
Thanks

As of last week, our Windows 7 Pro workstations can not map or browse the Windows 2008 Server shares. They can ping the Windows 2008 server. The Windows 7 Pro machines can still access the Windows 2003 Server Shares. The older workstations running Windows
XP can still map to the both the Windows 2003 & Windows 2008 Servers. All the servers can browse to each others shared folders (2 windows 2003 server & 1 windows 2008 server).Ok, now you're down to network or permissions issues. An unedited ipconfig /all
of server and problem workstation may help. You could also try setting up some auditing.

Windows 2008 Server and Windows 8 clients
Hey Guys,
I have had this problem for sometime now and really need a solution. I have Windows 2008 Enterprise Server running about 200+ terminal services clients. All Windows XP clients are fine, Windows 7 clients have issues when they get an updated version of
remote desktop client(to solve the issue we simply rollback the update), Windows 8 clients cannot connect and use out remote app. The issue stems from the newer version of remote desktop client (on windows 7 and embedded in windows 8) cannot connect to our
terminal server and generates an error and immediately disconnects. The error says "
Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because an error occurred on the remote computer that you want
to connect to
So my questions are, how can i update my Windows 2008 Terminal server version to support these clients, or do u have migrate to Windows 2012? Or is there a solution to my current problem which will allow my client to connect and use the remoteapps?Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Please follow the below steps and verify result.
LAN manager authentication level settings (Local security policy->Local Policies->Security Options->Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication level).
Try to change it to "Send NTLMv2 response only"

Bit Locker on windows 2008 R2 Virtual machine
Hello there !
We have a a number of Windows 2008 R2 machines and we wish to provide an encryption mechanism for each Virtual machine.
It's a VMware environment and all the VM files go into NFS drives.
Do you think , Bitlocker will help ?
Is Bitlocker supported on Virtual machines ?
In my opinion , Bitlocker is to safeguard against any "physical" threat to a machine.
But I wanted a second opinion here.
Please help me.VMs don't have a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) available to store the Full Volume Encryption Key (FVEK) used for BitLocker, but you can still use Hyper-V by storing the necessary information on a floppy drive. Use the command line:
cscript c:\Windows\System32\manage-bde.wsf -on C: -rp -sk A:
BitLocker is now enabled within the VM.

Error in installing Oracle client 11g on Windows 2008 R2 (64bit) XenApp 6
I am trying to install "win64_11gR2_client.zip" Oracle 11g Client 64bit on Windows 2008 R2 that has been clamped and restricted by our security department. Details of the clamp:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885409
The Windows 2008 R2 server is running on CITRIX XenApp 6.
When we try to install the client on a normal version of Windows 2008 R2 without the Clamp, the installation follows through and successfully. However, when we try to install the 11g Client on the Clamped Windows 2008 R2, we get the error below:
[INS-08802] Unable to instantiate the View class referred by View ID 'SummaryUI'
This indicates the primary issue is with the clamp. My issue now is knowing what exactly is causing the error. what restrictions should I enable from the clamp in order to get the installation working?
Here is the error log:

Hi,
As Akash G says, would you please let us know the complete error message or provide a screenshot? It will help

In addition, would you please let me confirm whether install the Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 via
Windows Update, or download the installation package and then install manually?
Please refer to the following article and check if can help you to solve this issue.

Hope this helps.
