  • Urgent: Paid Windows 8.1 Pro, need SHA1

    Dear Microsoft,
I just paid and downloaded Windows 8.1 Pro (English), the downloading program from Microsoft store was:
    OSGS14-WindowsSetupBox-32bitand64bit-English-4141408.exe
And after downloading, I chose to save the files to an ISO for later installation. The saved
    Windows 8.1.ISO (default name)
    Showed
GB (3,363,700,736 bytes) file (actually equals size on disk) size
I also used fciv for the checksums, with
    MD5 = 5dcb564164cbb02c4e5aba667af123aa
    SHA-1 = cfc9715ac825a6c5903da9e7c2d1a77f6d1108c0
However, none of the two checksums could be found on the Internet (with Google search). In addition, the
4141408 number of this download could not be found on MSDN subscribers. I would like to verify the integrity of this file. Could Microsoft people verify it?
Additionally, I would like Microsoft to provide a link to the published
checksum  for the file for more confidence.
    Thanks and regards,
    Jim

    Hi,
This TechnNet blog show us the way to download and install Windows 8.1 Pro,
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/canitpro/archive/2014/03/19/windows-8-1-tips-how-to-download-the-windows-8-1-pro-iso.aspx
We don't need to be worried about the exe if we download it from Microsoft offical resource,  regarding to the MSDN subscribers you mentioned in your post, there are some downloads for Windows 8.1 Pro VL version which mean
they are available to Volume Licensing (VL) customers only, not for retail version.

  • Cannot login my Windows 8.1 Pro with my live ID, don't have the Microsoft Logon Option

My laptop was installed with a Windows 8.1 Pro, and it worked very well before, i can login with my domain account and Windows Live ID, but today when i startup my laptop and i cannot find the option "Login with Microsoft/Live ID", i only can login
    with "Domain account/Local Account/SmartCard".
Microsoft Account/Live ID is a local administrator but my domain account seems is not a local administrator.
Now even i can login with my domain account, but i cannot change anything, because i'm not a administator, so how to make the "Microsoft Account" login available when i login the windows? (by the way, i cannot add a new login in the "Change
PC Settings->Accounts", because my domain account is not a local administrator)
    thanks.

    Hi William,
According to your description,I would like to know if you can see "Other User" option on the login screen.
If you can see it,please click it and type your microsoft account.
If you cannot see this option, please click Switch user to check the result.
If the issue still persists, please upload the screenshot.

  • Window 8.1 system unable to access network shares via VPN connection

Is there something inherent to Windows 8.1 that prevents it from accessing shares on a domain?
I know that it cannot join a domain, but does that also mean that it cannot access shares which are on a domain?
My problem is that I have several user that are running windows 8.1 that are connecting to our network via a VPN.
The users have domain accounts but their computers as windows 8.1 cannot joined to the domain.
So to access network shares they have to use their domain credentials to create a VPN connection.
Once connected the user can RDP to systems on the domain using their domain accounts, so I know that their user names/passwords and permissions are correct. They can access these systems using the computer name, so I don't feel that I have a DNS issue.
They can see the shares on our file server, but when they try to access their departments shared file, they receive an access denied message. There are a few shares that are completely wide open, shared to all users and all departments but they cannot access
    those shares either.
You can ping the file server, from the the client when they are connected to the VPN but you just cannot access any of the shares.
    So...
I am thinking that it has something to do with windows 8.1 and not being able to join a domain, but I cannot find anything to explicitly support this thought.
Other users running a variety different OS (windows 7, OSX, Linux) can all access the shares without any problems via the VPN, so I am a little stumped.

I have done some more testing and oddly enough I can map a drive if I use the IPaddress, but not the computer name, when checking the check box "connect using different credentials"and providing they users domain credentials.
This seems to point to a DNS issue, one would think, but I can hit the file share server by name \\fileserver.dev.lan
I can see all the shares, so dns seems to be fine right?
So I don't understand why I can map a drive using do the IPaddress and not the machine name, but yet I can see and ping the server by name?
When I try to create a mapped drive by machine name I receive the following message:
    Windows cannot access \\fileserver.dev.lan\all
You do not have permissions to access \\fileserver.dev.lan. contact your network administrator  to request access.
But if I use the \\x.x.x.x\all using the very same user and password I get connected with no problem.
This only seems to happen on windows 8.1, which leads me to think that has something to do with OS.
I am thinking about upgrading to windows 8.1 pro, but I don't want to go though the hassle and expanse is the OS is not the problem.

  • How to recognize if application is installed using "Install Application on Remote Desktop" option on Windows Server 2008 R2

How to recognize if application is installed using "Install application on remote desktop..." option in Control Panel in Windows Server 2008 R2?
Basically, as administrator, I can't say if the user installed application using "Install application on remote desktop..." in Control Panel or he just installed it by clicking the .msi executable. I can't find anything that makes any difference.
I could not find anything in the registry. I am quite confused.
    Thanks,
    Aleksandar9

    Hi,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Please make sure that you are using category view of control panel-programs to check the application. And in addition to “install application on Remote Desktop server” user can also use command line also.
    change user /install
    change user /execute
    change user /query
“The first time you run the application, it searches the home directory for its .ini files. If the .ini files are not found in the home directory, but are found in the system directory, Terminal Services copies the .ini files to the home directory, ensuring
that each user has a unique copy of the application .ini files. Each user should have a unique copy of the .ini files for an application. This prevents instances where different users might have incompatible application configurations.” (Quoted formthis
    article).
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks,
    Dharmesh

  • How to disable "Use Default If Unwired" by default?

When scanning part of my code, I noticed a wire output tunnel set to Use Default If Unwired, that would have really messed things up if I'd tried to run the program.  Is there a way to have that setting disabled by default?  I'd prefer to conciously enable it rather than have to remember to disable it whenever I wire across a structure boundary or add a new case.
I am using LabVIEW 8.5 so I'd need a solution for that version if possbile.  It would still be nice to know if anything was added in later versions, even if I can't use it myself yet!
Never say "Oops." Always say "Ah, interesting!"
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for clearing that up.  I guess I'll have to just keep deselecting the option every time for now.

  • HT1620 So what do I need to know about  using my iPad on public networks, say restaurants, etc. Can I use passwords of any kind, or will I be compromised?

So what do I need to know about using my iPad mini on public networks, say in restaurants. Will I be compromised by using  passwords? What protects my iPad?

To date, the iPad/iPad mini/iPhone/iPod Touch produces have remained secure.
In a public place, you do not control the network, so be careful of what activities you perform, such as accessing your bank, or other sensitive places.
Just surfing and reading your email is generally speaking not a problem.  Hopefully, your email connections are over secure SSL connections.

  • Windows 8.0 pro needs an NTFS drive but boot camp didn't make one

Just got a new macbook pro and went through the steps to get windows 8 pro on the machine as well. all seemed to go well until windows asked which drive to install windows on. I selected the one i had partitioned to 50gb.
Error. windows needs an NTFS drive to install to.
    Any ideas?
I've read some ways of "turning on" NTFS support on the mac book but as Apple doesn't "support" it, will I be putting my machine at risk for technical help from Apple if I do the command line stuff?
It seems pretty silly to go through all these steps and then find that the drive that has been partitioned isn't the correct version.
    Any help gratefully received.
    Shaun

You are not following the Boot Camp Installation instructions located here: http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/. You do not format the Boot Camp partition, you follow the instructions about formatting, especially the part about selecting the advance option and selecting format.

  • Need a shell script file in snow leopard to start and stop VPN connection

As the Question says, I need a shell script file to do this, and since I don't know anything about creating a script file I wanted to ask the Groups help.  I need it because I need to run a backup program, and need the backup program to run the Connect script to connect to the VPN before it starts the backup, and then when it completes the backup to run the disconnect script.  Your help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Hi, thanks for your prompt reply. However my real problem is not starting
it but stopping it cleanly. I am forced to restart the display from time to time (once/per hour) because it is getting 'stuck' for some reason and the web page is out of my control.
I tried simply killing the firefox process using kill command and then starting a new one but it works one or two times and then the next firefox process demands mouse communication. And that is not available. Also this has to work without any expert present as the display is in a public area.

  • Macbook pro will not wake up using default wifi

I have to select the default wifi each time i wake up the system at home. When it wakes up it does not wake up with the default selected. My default wifi is the only wifi used.

Make sure you are using the most recent OS X update for the version you have. Run Software Update.
Then, go to System Preferences > Network, select Wi-Fi, then the Advanced... button. If more than one network appears, delete those that you do not routinely want to use with the "–" (minus) button. Press OK, then Apply.
If your MBP still does not automatically reconnect upon wake from sleep, delete the file
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    ... and restart your Mac.
To find that file quickly, select the above path (triple-click the line), control-click to bring up the contextual menu, and select Services > Reveal. Drag that file to the Desktop, or directly to the Trash.
This will completely erase your AirPort network preferences, requiring that you select your Wi-Fi network and authenticate again.
If nothing else helps, try turning off Bluetooth if you do not require it. BT interference was suspected in preventing automatic reconnections to preferred networks upon wake from sleep, though this was never confirmed.

  • Are sideloading keys required to sideload Apps to domain joined OEM/retail Windows 8.1 Pro devices?

    Hello,
I want to sideload a Microsoft Store App to a Lenovo Thinkpad 2 device. The device has an OEM / retail version of Windows 8.1 Pro installed and is part of an active directory domain network.
With this preconditions and according to announcements by Microsoft, it seems to be possible since May 2014 to deploy Apps directly to these devices. Without the need to buy a sideloading key.
To check this, I have generated an code signing certificate with makecert/Pvk2Pfx and then I followed the instructions in this
    blog article.
Everything went fine, only the actual deployment with add-appxPackage didn't work. The installation aborts with the error message, that a developer or sideloading license is required, as no license or sideloading policy can be applied.
Can anybody in this forum give me some advice to these questions:
    1. Does the new sideload licensing model for May 2014 also applies to OEM/retail versions of Windows 8.1, or is is volume licensing required?
    2. Has anybody managed to successfully sideload an App to a OEM / retail Windows 8.1 Pro device?
    3. At the moment I don't have access to the domain network. I can login with a domain user locally but changes to the local group policies and to the local certificate stores can't be confirmed by the domain controller. I'm not an administrator, so might this
    be a source of error?
    Thanks
    Tobias

    Hello Tobias,
Please check if you can normally sideload Windows Store App in other domain-joined OEM computer.
About the OEM issue, it is recommended to contact the manufacturer.

There are a few other people have the same issues.  However there was no real solution provided although the post was marked as answered.  I am posting it here again and hopefully I can get some help to solve this issue.
We got two new PCs, one with windows 7 and the other with windows 8.1 Pro.  In the same network with domain, the windows 7 pc has no problem at all to join the domain.  However the windows 8.1 Pro won't join the domain. On the windows 8.1 Pro computer,
I can ping the other computers in the network.  The error message says:
An Active Directory Domain Controller (AD DC) for the domain "cmi" could not be contacted. ...
In my case, the domain name is "CMI".  I am sure the DNS setting is correct.  What did I do wrong?  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

I tried the solution in that article.
In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters folder, there is no
NeutralizeNT4Emulator.  So I followed the instructions and created one, and set the value to 1. Then I restarted the computer and tried to join the domain again.  I got the same error.  Below is more from the netsetup log file:

  • Windows 8.1 Pro - Flash Pro: Menu's and window selection panes do not fully render, or are misaligned. Same with the stage

This bug makes the program virtually unusable for anyone using Windows 8.1.  I have a dual screen setup : 1920 x 1200 and 1920 x 1080 on the other, AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series drivers (Latest versions), running on a Windows 8.1 Pro OS.  When you attempt to view the various menu option panes, the windows themselves are not rendering fully, or you are hidden.  Also the stage is shifted as well to the lower right, making the program almost unusable. I have tested this on a Mac, as well as on a windows 7 machine and this does not occur there.  So it appears to be only within a Windows 8.1 Pro machine.   I have attached screen shots of what I am seeing.  Notice in the first image, we are looking at the new document pane. You cannot see the options fully and they are shifted to the right out of view.  The next image shows both the stage, shifted right, as well as the Document Pane.  The options are not fully visible, and clipped off.  The window itself is not re-sizable.  I have cleared the appdata, and re-installed the program. Same result.  I attempted to troubleshoot this via chat, however your network kept losing connection. Please let me know if anyone is suffering from this, and any resolution. Thanks!

Thank you sir!  The scaling was the issue, and the solution.  By clicking on settings->Screen Resolution-> Text and Font link ->  It was defaulted to 125%. For anyone else who has this issue, set it to 100% and it will resolve these issues.
    Thanks again! Back to development
