Windows- bootcamp won't start after installing OSX Yosemite - Ameriguayo

Like so many others, I installed OSX Yosemite this morning and now Boot Camp no longer works.
After I updated to Yosemite I restarted my computer, held down alt, and was presented nothing but a Macintosh HD. I followed “Loner T’s” instructions. Here's my info...

Your case may be simpler to resolve. You do not have the MBR entry for Windows.
Do you a NTFS header "R.NTFS" when you run the following command in Terminal?
sudo dd if=/dev/rdisk0s4 count=1 2>/dev/null | hexdump -C

Like many people with the yosemite update, my boot camp no longer works.
I cannot find the drive when I'm booting up.
Startup Disk under system preferences only shows the Mac system and does not show any other option.

The NTFS header is intact and the GPT and MBR match.
1. What happens if you power cycle and hold the Alt key?
2. Do you have any third-party NTFS software (Tuxera, Paragon, MacDrive, NTFS-3g, NTFSFree...)?

Windows 7 won't start after installing graphic driver

hi guys
i have a probook 4530s (i5) laptop and recently i encountered a problem with graphics.
after installing a fresh copy of windows 7 x64, i installed lates driver for graphics (sp55947) but after a reset, windows won't pass the first "starting windows" page unless i go to bios setting and uncheck "switchable graphics" option,
but after that i dont have the radeon 6490m in my device manager anymore. i also tried the latest update for bios but no success with the problem..

Safari won't start, after installing X Lion

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Step 1
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

Mac Mini won't start after installing OS X 10.6.3

My Mac Mini won't start after installing Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3. When I turn it on, the Apple logo appears and the initialization line starts to fill, but it suddenly stops. It does that again and stops at the same point, but this time it shuts down. What should I do?

If you are coming from 10.5.8, hopefully you backed up your important data first. Your mini will need at minimum, 1 GB of RAM to install Snow Leopard and at least 5 GB of storage remaining on your boot drive.
I treat 10.6.3 as a fresh, full install over a 10.5.8 system. That means I choose Disk Utility from the Installer's menu and repartition the boot drive as a single partition, Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) format, and use the GUID partition scheme from the options button. At this point, while still in Disk Utility, I would verify the drive under First Aid.
Then I turn the installer loose, and reboot into a working 10.6.3 system, ready for the software updates that take the machine to 10.6.8.
So, following the above guidelines, reinstall 10.6.3.

Windows Vista won't start or install - firmware or EFI problem?

I am running Snow Leopard on a 2.4GHz MacBook Pro, late 08 - early 09 model. I have been using boot camp to run Vista for the past year with no problem. This morning, I tried to start up Vista and it wasn't working. I got the option key screen to choose between OSX and Vista, but after choosing vista, the cursor blinks once and I get a black screen. The computer is quiet and nothing seems to be running.
At first I thought it was a boot camp problem. So I went into OSX, de-partitioned the drive, and repartitioned it. I then stuck the Vista install disk in, and clicked through the boot camp assistant to reinstall. The computer restarted to begin the reinstall process, but instead of starting the install disk, it did the same thing - a single blip of cursor, and then a black screen.
I'm not technically savvy, but that seems like it's not a Windows problem, but a firmware or EFI problem. The computer will run OSX, but it won't run boot camp and it won't start from a CD-ROM. The only other steps I've taken are to run Software Update and the Disk Utility from Safari. Neither helped. I'm out of warranty and would love to be able to fix it without spending tons of money. Any help is appreciated.

should be identical to mine. If the "Suspicious MBR"
line is missing, then it is a GPT problem, which indicates
that the MBR information is missing or more likely corrupt.

If the MBR info in the GPT partition is corrupt or missing,
then (obviously) Windows won't be bootable.

SIA Won't Start After Installing BO XI 3.1 Service Pack 2

Hi
We have Business Objects XI 3.1 on Windows 2003 Server after installing Service Pack 2 that took about 7 hours and finish without problems when we try to connect with infoview appear the following message:
Error: Server mixco15:6400 not found or server may be down (FWM 01003) null
I check in CMC and SIA appears to be UP but when i try manage servers and put the administrator password i get the following message:
Unable to log on: Could not connect to server mixco15:6400. Please check that the server name is correct, and the server is running.
We restart the server several times and the server continues down also stop and start the Service Intelligence Agent and nothing happens do you know if this SP has any problem o what can I do in order to solve this everything was fine after installing SP2.

Windows 7 won't start after forced shutdown

I was installing a windows update when the system got hung up. I pressed the power button to force shut down. Now when I press the power button, I can hear the hard drive spin, the boot process starts and then the power turns off. The amount of time to shut-off varies. If I leave the computer off external power for about a week I can get all the way to seeing the desktop, but then the power shuts off. I have tried re-installing Windows 7 after a week draining the battery, but it shuts off mid-install. Please help!

VLC problem - won't start after installing skins

Hi everyone,
after installing some skins from the vlc website, I run into the following problem: VLC starts with two instances, CPU jumps to 100%, then VLC just dies. I've deleted the skins, changed the gtk theme, reinstalled vlc and did about a million other things, but the problem persists. Running vlc or cvlc from the terminal gives me the following message:

So apparently it still starts with two instances, but I have no idea why. There is no subX skin in the skins folder, everything looks clean. Any ideas would be really appreciated, as this is for me the best dvd player. Thanks!

HAL won't start after install on DL585 G2

I ran a v40z for years and recently had SRSS 5.2 on S11 running just fine. This past week I replaced the v40z with a DL585 G2 and reinstalled S11 and SRSS 5.2. Everything went well except now HAL won't start failing with, I suspect, a timeout after several minutes. Using truss it is clear that devfsadm is going too slow. If I keep restarting HAL and devfsadm over and over, eventually it will start.
Is there any way to troubleshoot this further?

I am now kicking myself because I thought I had made a copy of the truss output, but I have not. After 2 hours of tinkering, the machine is finally up and I am hesitant to mess with it any more.
The truss of devfsadm showed threads of devfsadmd stalling for about 60 seconds over and over again performing an ioctl against a devinfo file. I also wonder if this is related to the following message seen over and over in /var/adm/messages:
Mar 4 10:05:21 dl585 devfsadmd[595]: [ID 511948 daemon.error] di_init failed for /pci@0,0/pci10de,5c@9/pci103c,3305@4,4/device@1/mouse: No such device or address
There is some mouse that devfsadm thinks it has but then it can't find it. For what it's worth, there is no mouse plugged into the console. Further, I have disabled ILO via boot ROM and disabled all USB via BIOS.

G4 won't start after install?

Hello, just upgraded my G4 from 10.4.9 to leopard. Installation was successful, but after boot computer won't start. It shuts down right after gray screen shows. Now I started from leopard installation disk and fixed permissions. But that won't work. When I trie to start up from my HD it shuts still down right aftergray screens appeares. My comp spec: G4, 1,4GHz, 2gb ram, geforce2 video.
Ideas?

This appears to be another G4 bricking incident. There are plenty of these occurrences on these boards. You must boot from disk (hold "c" during re-start - wait until you see the spinning disc then release the "c" key). Choose disk utility, erase your disk and reinstall from scratch using the same hold "c" method. It's not a pretty solution, but plenty of us have had to figure this out the hard way. Welcome to Leopard.

PowerMac G4 (FW 800) Won't Start After Installing Airport Extreme Card!

After installing an Airport Extreme Card in my G4 FW 800, the computer will not Chime or Start Up; shortly thereafter, the Fan begins to Run erratically.
Without the Airport Card installed, the CPU runs normal, with the exception of the clock needing to be reset.

Hey Tom, thanks for the response. I have tried holding Command-Option-R-P down (resetting the PRAM) at startup with no avail. I have also pressed the PMU button with and without the Airport Card installed. Still no luck. I am pretty stumped. I ran a hardware check on the machine, and it has come back successful without the card.
The previous owner installed an extra internal HD and some memory. I have since installed a new PCI graphics card. Do you think these have anything to do with it?

OHS won't start after installing Webpass

Hello, I installed OAS Infrastructure 10g 10.1.4.01 on a 32-bit Windows 2003 Server. Then I installed OID and OIS. OHS came up correctly.
Then I installed file Oracle_Access_Manager10_1_4_3_0_Win32_OHS11g_WebPass.exe, and now OHS will not come up.
The HTTP Server log has these lines:

Cannot load c:/program files/netpoint/webcomponent/identity/oblix/apps/webpass/bin/webpass_ohs22.dll into server: (126) The specified module could not be found:
True, httpd.conf was altered to try to load the above dll. And the dll is right where it is supposed to be. So then I thought, maybe it is trying to dynamically load some routines. I downloaded a program, "Dependency Walker", and fed webpass_ohs22.dll into it.
It says:

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Step 1
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

I just watched a YouTube video showing how to replace RAM in a Toshiba netbook, but now my computer won't start even after I put back in the original RAM. On the parts label, it shows D3. I bought Crucial CT25664BC1067 2GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 Memory Module. Can someone provide some guida...

Mac won't start after installing Mountain Lion

After installing Moutian Lion (from 10.6.x) overnight I returned home yesterday evening and wasn't able to start up the mac.
I get the white screen of death and a little spinning wheel and then the mac shuts down.
I tried rebooting in recovery mode and did a "repair disk".....it said that it couldnt repair the disk.
I tried the "reinstall the OS X" option but the two drives it showed me are both locked so I couldnt do that either!
I didnt have time to do anything else.......what do I need to do now? WHat are the next steps? Sledgehammer? Dynamite?
