Windows Live pop-up

When I attempt to export files and I hit the "Choose" button to pick the destination I get a pop-up screen requesting a sign-in for Windows Live. I do not wish to ever use Windows Live, and don't even know what it is. The program crashes when I try to cancel the popup window.

Force quit Safari and then launch it with the Shift key held down. If that doesn't work, temporarily disconnect the computer from the Internet.

• Can't send or receive emails using Windows Live Mail. Webmail login says "account disabled."

Since yesterday we have not been able to access our Verizon email through Windows Live Mail or loging on to the webmail service. Nothing happens and we get a "accounts disabled" message. I checked all of the POP settings and it won't connect. When we try to log in to the verizon webmail service, it says our accounts have been disabled. Please tell us what is going on. I've chatted with a representative and am speaking to one on the phone and they can't tell me why it's disabled or how they can enable it again.

Ok, now they're telling us that one of our email accounts is associated with someone in Texas. But we're from California and have always lived here.

• How to migrate or transfer Windows Live email to OS X Yosemite, using Postbox

I just got an iMac and it didn't migrate my emails from my Windows PC; only some of them. I gave up on getting them into Apple Mail, but had Postbox (just Google it to find the download site) on my PC for another email account, so I was able to get Postbox on the Mac to accept emails from Postbox on Windows, which means you'll be using Postbox as your email client on your Mac. Here's what finally worked, after LOTS of trial and error, which I hope you won't have to repeat:
1. On the Windows 7 PC (? works with XP or Windows 8), rom Windows Live Mail (this was 2011 version), click on the blue square in the upper left corner and select Export email, and then select Email messages.
2. Choose Windows Live Mail for the program, then click Next.
3. Enter the name of folder where you want to export them to and click OK. I suggest making a New Folder (empty) on Desktop, and name it something to describe the group of email folders you want to transfer. I have a few groups of email master folders with subfolders, and so did this for each master folder. If you have only one master folder that contains all your email folders, then you'll only have to do this once. Then click Next.
4. In the next window that appears, select all the email folders within the master folder you want to transfer, then click Next.
5. When it finishes exporting, it will say so, and then click Finish. This can take many minutes or maybe an hour, depending on how many emails you are transferring.
6. Open Postbox on the Windows PC (free download for 30-day trial, and only $10 for license, so well worth it), and near the top on the left, highlight “Local Folders.” Then from the File menu select New and then Subfolder to create an email master folder in Local Folder section of Postbox. Select that folder so it's highlighted.
7. Select Tools in Postbox, then "Import all messages from a directory," then "also from its subdirectories." Then click on the master folder you created that contains all the email folders you just exported from Windows Live Mail. You'll see that there is a subfolder named something (mine says "Live ([name]), and another subfolder within that that is the name of the master folder that just received your export. Select this subfolder and click OK. (Within that are the subfolders corresponding to your Windows Live email folders.)
8. Within Postbox, right-click on the email master folder you created in step 6, then select Properties, and put your cursor inside the Location box. You'll probably have to scroll to the right as it will be a long path. (Mine is Users/[name]/AppData/Roaming/Postbox/Profiles/[long series of random letters and numbers]/Mail/Local Folders/[master email folder name]).
9. Open Windows Explorer and go to the folder in the Location box, and it will have an “sbd” extension in the folder name. Open that folder, select all the files in it and copy (ctrl-C) them.
10. Put an SD card or USB drive in your PC (formatted with exFAT, so the Mac can read it), and create a new folder with the same name as the master email folder. Paste all the copied files into that folder.
11. Eject the SD/USB and insert into your Mac.
12. Open Postbox on the Mac (free download, again).
13. If you’ve set up an email account in Postbox, select & highlight that account on the top left, otherwise select Local Folders. Maybe better to just select Local Folders as to not get into conflicts with your email account, especially if it’s IMAP, but I had problems with POP account, too.
14. From the File menu, select New and then Subfolder, and create a Subfolder with the name of your email master folder.
15. Highlight your new email master folder and repeat step 14 to create a new subfolder named “test” or something like that, which you’ll later delete. Then QUIT POSTBOX.
16. Repeat step 8 with your master email folder to find the location of this folder on your Mac, then open Finder and open that folder. There should be a subfolder there named “test”, which confirms that you’re in the right place.
17. Open another Finder window and select the SD/USB drive and the folder in it with your Windows email folders inside it. Highlight and copy (command-C) all the files within that folder, which will be named something like your Windows Live email folders, but maybe with random letters and numbers at the end.
18. Paste all those files into the master email folder in first Finder window. (This is the actual step of moving all your emails from your Windows PC to your Mac.)
19. Reopen Postbox, and you should see all your email folders (possibly with the random endings to their names) within the email master folder you created. If there are a lot of them, it may take Postbox a while to index them all.
20. To confirm that all your emails transferred, go back to Windows Live Mail on your Windows PC and right click all the email folders you just transferred, and click on Properties, where it will tell you how many messages are in that folder. Write down the number of messages for each folder you transferred.
21. On your Mac, select each folder, then highlight all the messages in each folder (select the first, the press Shift and select the last message). Then right-click on the highlighted messages and then click on Mark and then “Mark all as unread.” Then a number will appear to the right of the folder telling you the number of unread emails, which should equal the numbers you got from Windows Live email folder properties.
22. If the numbers aren’t equal, then I’m sorry, and it’s time to try it again or do some trial and error.
I tried many different approaches before arriving at this one, which consistently worked for me over and over. I hope it saves you all the trial and error time it took me. This is long and complicated, but not as long as trying a bunch of long and complicated methods that didn’t work. Now you can use Postbox as your email client on your Mac. Maybe there's a way to transfer them into Apple Mail, but Postbox is fine for me.

PS: The Mac folder where Postbox stores it's messages is inside the Library folder inside your User folder. Normally, the Library folder is invisible. To make it visible in Finder, I did what it said here:

• Migrating from Windows Live Photo Gallery to iPhoto

I'm interested in moving to a Mac, and bringing with me my photo collection, which has been organised (keyworded) using Windows Live Photo Gallery.
Has anybody had any experience with this?
All the keywords assigned using WLPG are stored in the photos as EXIF metadata, and I'm interested in preserving this, to save re-keywording the photos...
Thanks
David

David
If the keywords are written to the correct fields on the Metadata then they will come with the photos to the Mac.
Easiest way to check, pop some on a USB Flash Drive and bring them to a Mac using friend's house or even a local Apple store.

• .pdf files received in Windows Live Mail

I have the latest iMac with Snow Leopard 10.6.7, Parallels Desktop 6 and Windows 7 installed. Since I work alot in the Windows environment because of the professional software I use, I retrieve my email from Windows Live Mail. If someone sends me a .pdf file and I try to open it, the ColorSync Utility pops up and the Profiles window opens (the .pdf file does not open). Why does this happen and how do I get it to just open the .pdf?

Yes. I had to figure it out on my own. Go to the start button on the windows page and go to the selection entitled "Default Programs". A window pops up. Choose the selection entitled "Associate a file type or protocol with a specific program." Under the "Name", find ".pdf". Put the cursor over that and click the button "Change program..." Another window opens up with the names of different programs. The Adobe program should be in there. If not, there is a button at the bottom "Browse..." and you should be able to find the Adobe program there. Hope that helps.

• Outgoing Hotmail Windows Live doesn't work anymore

I have a couple of Hotmail accounts set up in Mail on 10.6.8. They have worked fine for a long time, but since the last few days, outgoing mail does not work anymore. Only incoming mail works. I have tried to find out if Hotmail/Windows Live have changed anything regarding their POP mail, but have found nothing. Does anyone else have the same problem?

Thank you Csound1 for your suggestions. In the end, I had to call a senior Apple care tech to solve it.
So for anyone else having this problem, here's what we did:
To fix outgoing Hotmail server problems,
go to System Preferences/Network
Select Ethernet and Advanced
DNS tab
Add 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to DNS servers in left column.
There was something wrong in the settings with the DNS server that I get when set to automatic. I called Verizon and they could not give me another DBNS server or help me. So I'm now using Googles (8.8.8.8).
Go to keychain access
Search for the hotmail address
Delete the lines that says smtp.live.com - Internet password

• While using Windows live firefox freezes then has to close alot!

While in the middle of writing emails, moving from inbox to writing, in general any navigating in Windows live, the windows freez and "Firefox must close" appears. Moving between web pages while windows live is open causes this alot. Moving thru pages with msn as home seems to cause too many freezes. Happens on 2 diferent laptops.

Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
''(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)''
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item:

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode''
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''

'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.

• How do I set up Windows Live in Mac Mail??

Older Hotmail accounts would work if you installed the HttpMail Plugin. But if you're account is new (less than a few years old) it may not.

• Running iTunes as another user - iTunes window keeps popping up

My missus and I have one iPod and want to just use one library on iTunes (hers). Therefore when I want to use iTunes, I run it under her user credentials ("Run as" option in Windows XP).
This loads her library & settings no problem, but the iTunes window pops to the front every 30 seconds, even when minimised to the system tray. Obviously this totally interrupts what I am doing on the PC.
I believe this has only started happening since iTunes was updated to 9.0.2.25. Note - this symptom doesn't happen if I run iTunes under my own credentials, or if the missus is logged on it doesn't happen to her. Both PC accounts are full administrators.
Any advice welcome. Thanks.

If you're using Windows Live Messenger or have it running in the background - uncheck the option to show your current song as your personal message.

• There was an error when attempting to connect to the Windows Live Calendar service.

I keep getting a message when I want to check my email you are not connected (but I am,as I can get in my Webbrowser) and the following error message
There was an error when attempting to connect to the Windows Live Calendar service. If the error persists, check to see if there's an upgrade of Windows Live Mail available or contact a service representative.
Can anyone help me, no sense sending me an email, I cannot get into my email.

Hi,
Try installing Windows 2012 Live Essentials here.
You will have to set up your Pop 3 or IMAP email account after installing the updated version per above.
Are you using an Internet Service Provider Email account or a cloud based (IMAP) Email account?
Pop 3 accounts will require incoming and outgoing server addresses and any additional security settings required by your ISP. If you don't have the required settings for Pop 3 you will have to contact your ISP for those.

• FIOS Email: Doesn't work with Windows Live Mail?

I have follow the instructions posted in mid April 2015 for changing the email settings and they do not work at all with Windows Live Mail.
Unable to send or receive messages for the Verizon (text deleted by me) account. An incorrect password was entered. The next time you send or receive messages, you'll be asked to enter your user name and password for this account.

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC92
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes
I am using the exact same identical password I used successfully to access webmail. I confirmed the port settings of 995 (incoming) and 465 (outgoing) are being used in the set up. I noticed various versions of Outlook (Express, 2010, etc) have instructions posted here but not Windows Live Mail. Do the new settings not work on the client?

Update: I did find the instructions posted at http://www.verizon.com/Support/Residential/Announcements/general-announcements01.htm?CMP=EMC-CVZ_ZZ_... and they DO NOT WORK
Followed them to the letter step by step and still cannot access when using Webmail. Here is the response:

• IS PSE8 compatible with Windows Live Mail

Before installing W7+WLM I was able to share my photos using the "Photo Mail" feature with Outlook Express.
Now in W7, I use Windows Live Mail (since OE seems to be replaced with this email program) but I'm not able to use it to send photo emails.
After selecting the photos in the "photo mail" feature, and right before the photo email is supposed to pop up, I get this error message:
"Elements Organizer could not finish creating your E-mail message.
Alternatively, you can use the Adobe E-mail Service via the Elements Organizer Preferences dialog."
In the preference/sharing tab, I get two options: "Windows Mail" and "Adobe Mail"; I do not see "Windows Live Mail".
What am I doing wrong?
Is PSE8 compatible with Windows Live Mail?

Thank for your reply, V.
You are implying that Windows Live Mail is not supported by PSE8... is this the case?
