Windows Movie Maker can't start. Dell XPS L502X running 64 bit Windows 7
Used to work fine until we updated MS licence. Seems to be a problem with graphics driver, yet I've tried all the posted fixes with no luck.

Hi,
Due to Windows Movie Maker is an additional application, you can reinstall it for repair.

Hi, I'm attempting to get Movie Maker to start on a 64 bit notebook which I believe has the correct specs and has latest video card drivers and direct X10 or 11, can't remember. How can I further troubleshoot this?

    Hi,
Have you checked that your PC meets the minimum system requirements here:
    http://explore.live.com/windows-live-essentials-system-requirements ?
Older graphics cards will often not support some of the newer technologies, even if if they have the latest drivers. Is this your issue?
Also, You may need to install DirectX 9.0c runtime components if you are running Windows 7. This will add some components necessary for programs that use older versions of DirectX, which includes Windows Live 2011 Photo Gallery and Movie Maker.
    Download the full installer here:

Make sure your computer meets minimum requirements before trying to start WMM again and then try to update the driver for your video card if MM doesn't start".  I have followed other threads regarding this problem, have uninstalled, re-installed WMM.  Have updated drivers through Lenovo website. Have downloaded Graphics Media Accelerator Drivers from Intel all to no avail.  Could somebody PLEASE help as soon as possible as my daughter has a film to make in less than 48 hours!!!!  Thank you. • How to edit JVC/Panasonic/Canon .mod video in Windows Movie Maker then upload to YouTube for sharing

    Quick View:
Part 1: How to import .mod video to Windows Movie Maker
Part 2: How to edit the video with Windows Movie Maker
Part 3: How to upload your video to YouTube
    Know More:
    1. Which Camcorders record video in .MOD type?
    2. What file types are supported by Windows Movie Maker?
    3. What file types are supported by YouTube?
Part 1: How to import .mod video to Windows Movie Maker
    Step 1: Load files
First copy the MOD file from your video camera to your hard drive, then download, install and run MOD Converter, click the "Add Files" button to browse your computer hard disc and load the MOD/TOD video files you want to convert to the program.
    Step 2: Output Setting
In the bottom of the main interface, select an output format supported by Windows Movie Maker for each video file and specify a directory on your computer to save the output files.
    Step 3: Start convert
Click "Start" button on right bottom of the main interface, you are allowed to start conversion.
Step 4: Import converted video to Windows Movie Maker
Click on "File". Then click on "Import". A window will appear. In the window, navigate to the video clip you converted just now. Then double click on the file. You'll see the icon for the file in your Windows Movie Maker "Collections".
Part 2: How to edit the video with Windows Movie Maker
Step 1: Add transitions and special effects
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Edit Movie, click View video transitions.
Preview transitions by double-clicking them and watching the Preview Monitor. Once you've found a transition you like, drag it from the Video Transitions pane, under Edit Movie pane to the box between two of your clips. This inserts the transition between the two clips.
Step 2: Add titles and credits
If you want to add a title before, after, or on top of a clip, click the clip on the storyboard or timeline.
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Edit Movie, click Make titles or credits.
    Step 3: Add Music
In the Movie Tasks pane in Movie Maker, under Capture Video, click Import audio or music.
In the Import File dialog box, click the name of the song you want to use in the background. Then click Import. This adds your song to your collection but does not add it to your video. Drag the song from the collection to the video clip where you want the music to start playing.
    Step 4: Add narration
If you have a desktop computer, connect a microphone. Microphones are available from most electronics stores. If you have a portable computer, you can use the built-in microphone. However, you will get a better-quality recording if you connect an external microphone. In Movie Maker, click the Tools menu, and then click Narrate Timeline. On the timeline, click the clip you want to narrate. You can narrate clips one at a time, or you can narrate the entire movie all at once. If you narrate individual clips, you can rearrange them later and keep your narration synchronized. If the narration is too loud or too soft in comparison to the movie, right-click the narration on your timeline, and then click Volume.
Step 5: To save your movie to your computer
In the Movie Tasks pane, under Finish Movie, click Save to my computer.
The Save Movie Wizard appears. On the Save Movie File page, type a name for your movie. You can also choose a folder to save it in by clicking the Browse button, but My Videos (the default) is usually the best place to save your movie. Then click Next. On the Movie Setting page, click Next to accept the default setting of Best quality for playback on my computer.
Movie Maker saves your movie, which might take several minutes. On the Completing the Save Movie Wizard page, click Finish. If Play movie when I click Finish was selected (it is selected by default), the movie will automatically play in Windows Media Player. Now you can watch your videos anytime by opening your My Videos folder and double-clicking your movie.
Part 3: How to upload my video to YouTube
A video file should meet the following requirements so that it can be uploaded to YouTube site.
    1. In an acceptable format: WMV, MPEG4, MOV, AVI and MPEG.
    2. Video length is shorter 10 minutes.
    3. File size is smaller than 1GB.
Step 1: Sign up a YouTube account or Gmail account, then click the Upload button on any YouTube web page. See the figure below:
Step 2: Type in the information of your video file, including Title, Description, Category and tags. To increase the chances that your video can be easily found, you should put as much information as possible.
Step 3: Set this video to be public or private.
Step 4: Click the "Upload a video" button. When you see the next window, click the "Browse" button to select the video file you want to upload. Then click the "Upload Video" button to upload it. After the upload is finished, you will see the completion page. See the figure below:
Step 5: Click "My Videos" and you will see the video.
    Know More:
    1. Which Camcorders record video in .MOD type?
MOD is the video file type used on many digital camcorders, such as the JVC Everio, the Canon FS100 and the Panasonic D-Snap SD-card camcorders. Accompanying the MOD video file, there exists MOI file that stands for the index file for MOD.
    2. What file types are supported by Windows Movie Maker?

    Hi everyone!!

    Hi,
Did you receive any error message when launching Windows Movie Maker 2012?
Download and install updates and drivers from Windows Update. Also, Movie Maker can't start if it's installed on an edition of Windows 7 or Windows 8 that doesn't include Windows
    Media Player.

  • I cannot use Windows Movie Maker in Parallels on my iMAC

Hello, I run Windows 7 on my iMAC via Parallells without any problems normally. It works e.g. fine to run the Windows Office programs. But I run into problems when I try to run Windows Movie Maker.
I get the instruction to run dxdiag.exe to verify my DDI-version.
And then I get the following message from Windows:
'"The file prl_umdd.dll is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft Windows
Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL). You can maybe get a WHQL-signed file from the hardware supplyer."
Is this a wellknown problem among mac-users who run Windows via Parallels?
Any suggestion what I should do?

  • IMovie HD to Windows Movie Maker

I have some movie clips in iMovie HD 5.0.2 (currently unconverted) - what's the best way to get them into a format the Windows Movie Maker can read, as it seems that none of the formats under "Expert" are supported by WMM.
Is there any (ideally free) conversion software available for OSX 10.4 PPC that can do this?
Unfortunately, it's not an option to not use Windows Movie Maker.
    Thanks for the help

    Hi
SORRY THIS WAS - Backward info - from .avi/.wmv to streamingDV -
may be the way is reversible.
Just cutting and pasting from old doc (to explain strange formulations).
    .avi:
You can use MPEG-Streamclip to convert the AVI files so that QuickTime can play them
    and to streamingDV for iMovie.
    .wmv:
iMovie is by concept meant to work with miniDV camcorders.. any other 'imports' need a conversion or are not supported... a quick solution would be purchasing a plug-in from www.flip4mac.com, 49$, which allows the conversion of .wmv (a PC format) into something useful for iM (dv-stream) ...
or, ask the emailer to send it in some other codec .. mpg4 for example .. which will be converted by iM 'out-of-the-box' ... and, to work with iM, the video should fulfill a few standards .. 720x480 pixel resolution, 30 frames per second ... otherwise, you will experience a dramatic loss of quality ..
    Yours Bengt W

  • Transferring downloaded itune to windows movie maker

I am wanting to use a downloaded song for a DVD project I am making, but I get a message stating the song cannot be used because of it's format?!? I am not a computer genius, so I am wondering if there is a way to use a song that has been downloaded from itunes in projects such as Windows Movie Maker. Any thoughts?

Find the song file you want to use, make sure it is in a format that Windows Movie Maker can use, namely MP3 or WAV, and use it.

  • Exporting itunes music to windows movie maker?

    Hi,
New to I tunes. I have a HP note book running windows vista. I have all my music in I tunes and would like to export it to windows movie maker so I can burn a dvd with my pictures all ready there and now all I need is my music. If this can be done please describe as simple as possible. Thank you.

Find the song file you want to use, make sure it is in a format that Windows Movie Maker can use, namely MP3 or WAV, and use it.

  • Exporting .dv files to supported files types for Windows Movie Maker

I am digitizing all of my friends' family videos with iMovie and I now have them all as Apple .dv files. Unfortunately some of my freinds do not have Macs, so I must convert them. There are many options for converting .dv files to formats that Windows Movie Maker can import, but every combination of wrapper and codec I have tried has either resulted in low quality or results in a size that it is at least double. Because these are family memories I do not want to lose quality compared to the Apple Mac .dv files that I have. On the other hand, I would prefer not to double the file size for the same quality that I had.
What converter do you recommend and what combination of wrapper (mpeg4, avi, mov, etc.) and codec (h264, jpeg, etc.) can convert Mac .dv files into full resolution files for Windows Movie Maker?
    What I have tried:
I was advised by Applecare to try DivX converter, but it does not accept .dv files. I have been trying Mpeg Streamclip with the following combinations:
exporting to AVI with DivX Codec seemed low quality
exporting to AVI with H.264 was not readable by Windows Movie Maker
exporting to AVI with Apple Photo JPEG Codec was more than twice the orginal .dv file size
    Thanks.

    mkl111 wrote:
...  There are variants of dv files and .. .
best to my knowledge - no.
.dv is a standard, created by movie-cams. iMovie handles this codec 'natively'.
only allowed differences are PAL and NTSC …
I copied a zillion .dv files without processing/editing directly from the Events folder onto a fat32-formatted HDD.
but even edited movies are compatible: Export using Quicktime and in the drop down DV-STREAM ...
afaik, in Movie Maker you have to choose 'Import file'  - done.
sorry, no idea which of the hundred of versions of WMM is in use on the other side of the street

  • Movie Maker won't start

I have a relatively new HP Pavilion, core I5, 16gb, Intel HD graphics. It came with Movie Maker installed, but Movie Maker won't start - says I need to make sure the PC meets minimum requirements. Say what? It came installed -  I expect it to work. Now what? (I knew I should have gone Mac...)

    Hello mbhaub
The system at a glance looks powerful enough to run Movie Maker, however, the Intel HD graphics chip may not be powerful enough and can be causing that message. I found a Microsoft Answers thread where it is stated that you should update you Intel HD video drivers. The other option (especially if you intend to do HD video editing) would be to purchase a stronger dedicated video card.
“Error code: c945000e Sorry, Movie Maker can't start …” when I start Movie Maker
What are the Movie Maker system requirements?
What is the exact model of your HP Pavilion?

    I appreciate your input/guidance.
