Windows Phone Language Support

I am developing an app that is supposed to support 4 languages, "en", "fr", "de" and "lb". Locally, all works fine, but when generating the App packages, I get the error that not all languages are supported.
I realized that the language "lb" (Luxembourgish) is well supported for Windows store, but not for windows phone store applications.
- Is my understanding correct?
- Is there any plan to also support "lb", "lb-LU" for windows phone apps in the future?
Many thanks,
Alain

Your understanding is correct.
We don't know about any future support.  You can sign up for the
Windows Insider Program to get the latest information on that.

  • Level of local SQLCE/other DB support in windows phone 8.1/using linq to sql from dll?

I have had a mixed opinion for SQLCE support in windows phone 8/8.1. Is their still support for a local SQLCE or other database in windows phone 8.1? (A lot of different blog articles created their own handlers it appears and one used
an visual studio app called SQLmetal) I am hoping to at least figure out the libraries to use for Linq to SQL in windows phone 8.1 in order to access a local Database. I only need to retrieve data from a simple Database with one -
two tables and one of the tables has three fields.
I wish to access the local DB from a dll file even if I have to use Linq to SQL. The reason for this is to store data for a simple game while the app is running. However, I may need to send data to the database and would like to separate that
from the main application if possible. The only other question is: how do I add local database support to a dll file in windows phone 8.1? (This is my main objective but I need to know my database options first)

Windows Phone Silverlight 8.1 apps can still use LINQ to SQL (System.Data.Linq) see:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/hh202860(v=vs.105).aspx
For Windows Phone 8.1 [runtime] app you would need to use an external library like
    SQLite
There is a jumpstart training talk on using SQLite in Windows Phone 8.1 apps here:

I'm not sure what you mean by: "...access the local DB from a dll file..."  Do you mean you want the library used to access the database to be portable across
    platforms?

I saw the first link and I think I have already been through some of that tutorial on channel 9 already.

This would be a yes. I need use it to submit an application to the store (I wish to have the data and business logic in the dll file while having the GUI separate). I am currently using the portable dll but if you think using another dll type would help
I will try that. I am a VB.NET programmer and so I can see where some programmers get their worries about SQLCE (It seems a lot of VB and VB.NET programmers like it from my time helping on the VB.NET forums second to SQL Server only).

Nevermind, I changed the dll type to "Silverlight" and I can use the System.Data.Linq reference at least.

  • Windows phone security on wireless networks

I am a post-doc at large medical center, and requested access to our secure wireless network due to the nature of my work. I was told by our IT support desk analysts that Windows
Phone is not supported at our medical center (at all), because Windows phones are "too insecure to put on our network." Because of this, I either have to get rid of my brand new Windows Phone to get an android or I will never be allowed to have access
to the secure Wi-Fi as necessary for my job. Any thoughts or suggestions? This seems to be a serious limitation of Windows Phone.

Your support desk is outright lying to you. There is no issue with Windows Phone security on wireless networks, they just don't want to support your phone. It might be possible that Windows Phone doesn't support the particular kind of wireless encryption
that your org uses, but I'm pretty sure that was all solved with Windows Phone 8.
In fact, Windows Phone is more secure in some ways because unlike iOS and Android, you cannot override security certificate problems.

  • Customizing Windows Phone Office hub?

Is it possible to modify the appearance of SharePoint lists/document libraries in Windows Phone Office Hub?

    Hi ,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to customize the appearance of SharePoint lists/document libraries in Windows Phone Office Hub.
Per my knowledge, there is no way to customize it. Office Hub includes SharePoint Workspace Mobile which used for connecting to SharePoint, and the feature is hard coded.

  • Does a multiple language supported Windows Phone 8 Application support Bengali Language (Bangladeshi language)?

    Hello,
I am developing  a Windows Phone 8 application (for Nokia/ Microsoft Lumia) where multiple languages will be supported. Now, it is needed to support Bengali (Bangladeshi language) in my Windows phone 8 application.
But, I didn't find Bengali language in the Setting -> Language -> phone Language. So could anyone tell me that a multiple language supported windows phone 8 application support Bengali language or not. If it is possible, then how user will change
the app language from phone setting?
FYI .. From Microsoft OEM documentation, I have known that Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 includes support for Bangla (Bangladesh language).
    Thanks

    Hi NONAME-2007,
As far as I known the Bangla language is supported as a on-screen keyboard language on the Windows Phone 8. But it is not supported as a display language in Windows Phone 8, so you can not choose this language from the phone setting. For more information,
please try to refer to the following article:

  • Windows Intune support deployment for windows phone (8.1) *.appx files

    Hi
We are trying to deploy a windows phone 8.1 appx file with intune (over sccm console). the appx file is signed with a valid symantec certificate.
the installation of the app fails, either when we upload the file as "Required" (so pushing it automatically to the devices) or when we make the app on the company portal app available.
in the sccm console the deployment status says failed -> unkonwn error.
when we use .xap file of an windows 8.0 app, it works like a charm and the xap file is signed with the same certificate.
My question is, is there no support for publishing windows phone 8.1 appx files on Intune? Or what can it be?
    Thanks for any hints

    UPDATE
According to these links and the comments from Mitch Denny, can somebody confirm that .appx files (company apps) cannot be deployed/installed on windows phone 8.1 yet?

  • WCF Add Service Reference Not Supported for Windows Phone 8.1 XAML Applications

Windows Phone 8.1 XAML applications does not support the System.ServiceModel namespace, and therefore you are not able to right click references in the project and choose Add Service Reference.   The recommended solution is to add a REST endpoint
to your WCF endpoint, and access the WCF application through the REST endpoint using HttpClient.

My opinion on this subject is that someone in management needs to get rid of the "Yes Man" and hire someone with a backbone.
A project (such as this one) suffered big time because of your excuse of meeting a deadline. Did nobody do feasibility studies to determine the effects of removing the ServiceModel namespace and how it would break migration? It wasn't removed from the other
project types, so it wasn't a point that it wouldn't fit on the device, so it came down to testing and someone dropped the ball. This is poor management, and deadlines should be extended for critical points within a project. Think about the public relations
that has already been set backwards by this move. I believe that it meets the critical criteria only because you are talking about targeting the mobile devices which consume external data sources as a key component. Lacking the ServiceModel namespace was a
monumental error on the teams part.
This is a perfect case of "we can ship the car", but the wheels will have to wait...they can "Flintstone it" until we get the wheels ready.

  • NOKIA lumia windows 8 phones not supporting JAVA

Hi Nokia lumia latest windows 8 phones not supporting java. I Think its a big draw back because we cant install any java apps like Mobile banking Apps. Java apps market increasing day by day. Why nokia avoid this feature. is there any solution for this problem.

no solution unfortunately, however you may be able to try your luck with the WebApps app from the Store, and then search for your particular mobile banking website within that app.
and no, it is not Nokia that is not implementing support for Java, it is part of the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 operating system. if you wish to leave feedback with them, you can do so over at http://windowsphone.uservoice.com

  • Windows Phone was not supposed to get LTE support until Apollo

"In late 2011, one of the sticking points for Verizon Wireless in broadly adopting Windows Phone was the lack of 4G LTE support. AT&T also took issue with this missing feature as strategically they are looking to offload network congestion to their new high-speed spectrum."
    http://www.wpcentral.com/windows-phone-was-not-suppose-get-lte-till-apollo
Once again, VZW - help us understand your line in the sand with taking on some new Windows Phone?  "Oh, we are still waiting for Apollo?!?"  Every day on any given WP Forum I see more and more Verizon customers leaving for Pink or AT&T.  The AT&T Stores are having a field day with this information, too!

So let's see who came up with the 2% growth number for Windows Phone?
Oh, that would be Strategy Analytics:  http://www.strategyanalytics.com/
The same Strategy Analytics who came up with:  http://www.strategyanalytics.com/default.aspx?mod=reportabstractviewer&a0=6938
Written by a doorknob in the UK named Stuart who used to work for Apple (and has no Microsoft exposure):  http://www.strategyanalytics.com/default.aspx?mod=biography&a0=728
In reality, as a public company, Verizon has not much say in terms of what devices they get to carry.  They can put their own spin on things as they communicate to their board - but it's the board and investor folk who drive the decisions.  Wishful thinking that these investors would read the good things about the Windows Phones.  High customer sat, customer friendly OS, easy to support, low end to high end device options, etc.  Unfortunatly, most of the investors are punch drunk on their Droid cocktails and are currently enjoying a high percent of Verizon Droid customers.  In addition, stupid things that Microsoft did - like the KIN phones - do nothing but leave Verizon investors and board members burn victims.
