Windows Vista Boot Camp always running

I just recently purchased a macbook air ( 1.86, 128gb ssd) and I've been extremely happy with it. I was wondering if people have noticed that the fan is always running when using Vista but not in OS X?
Is there a solution?

I have the same machine with Vista running via Boot Camp and Fusion. Although the fan does run more frequently than when running Mac o/s, it certainly doesn't run "all the time" as you report.
Note, however, that I only use Vista for occasional browsing with Explorer and to run one app for which there is no Mac alternative; could be that it's the app you're running that makes the fan more active?

  • Windows VISTA Boot Camp?

Would it be possible to run MS Windows VIsta with Boot Camp? or we will be only able to Install XP SP2. Thanks!

Not sure if Boot Camp works yet, but those enterprising coders narfa and blink over at OSx86 Project have got Vista Working with their XOM (XP On Mac) solution (http://www.tuaw.com/2006/04/12/boot-camp-can-run-vista-too/)
Shouldn't therefore be too hard to make it work with Boot Camp.

  • Windows Vista Boot Camp - No Audio (sound)

    Hi Guys,
I just got my father's Macbook Pro he bought last year for christmas, and I was already excited how I could actually have both Mac and Windows on one laptop (as I need Windows for making music in Fl Studio). Now the problem is, that there is no Sound coming out of the MBP when in Windows, and there is the infamous red light coming out of the Headphones Jack. I'll explain everything I did in steps so that you get the idea. So first of all, I started with the Bootcamp Partition and Installation. Since I lost my Mac OS X (or tbh my father lost it   ) I was happy to see that I could actually download the 'support software a.k.a. Drivers' directly before the installation. Well, guess what, It didn't work because the 'support software was not available'. Anyways, I proceeded with the Installation as if I had the CD and Drivers ready. Everything went fine, after booting to Windows I installed Bootcamp and the drivers (Since I found someone posting the .Iso file of the contents of the MAC OS X CD I lost, so I downloaded it.), I was excited to see that every button on the keyboard worked and also the trackpad worked almost flawlessly. Now after the Installation, I did some Windows updates, and then I wanted to listen to some Music, and suddenly I realized that my Sound isn't working! And the Jack started to Glow Red.
So I went online, in search of the problem. I found various 'fixes' for the problem, such as installing a Cirrus Driver (well that didn't work, as it said that my windows is in Slovak and that's not a supported language... what the ****?), then I tried to install Realtek Drivers - didn't do anything (although I didn't uninstall the old ones, because I wasn't sure how exactly to do that.)... Well I think it might be helpful if I'll just summarize what 'fixes' I tried:
Update to Boot Camp 3.1 - Didn't work
Update to Service Pack 1 or later. - Updating to Service Pack 1 and then 2 got rid of the red light, when there is no sound output, as soon as I try to play something it's back on, glowing like a Christmas Tree
Try to wiggle a toothpick in the headphone jack - amazing fix, isn't it? Well I actually found out that It worked for some people, and since I'm desperate, I tried it... As expected, it didn't work.
Install Realtek Drivers - as mentioned above, didn't work...
Install Cirrus Drivers - Slovak Language not 'supported'... right.
Update Boot Camp to latest update - Didn't Work...
Install a 32 Bit Version of Windows -  I didn't mention this, I had first a 64 bit version of Windows 7 Installed, and the sound didn't work as well. As there was some problem with the Boot Camp installation, I tried to reinstall to 32 Bit, But used Windows Vista instead, because I heard Windows 7 Is 'not yet  supported' or something..
Make sure the Speakers are 'preset' as a default device in the Sounds Control Panel -  It Already was preset -.-
'Rage Plug' the computer and hope for the best...? Yeah.
Can anyone finally tell me how to fix this, I am desperate, tired, angry and all the other negative emotions you can imagine right no, because I spent hours on this, looking up millions of forums, in which there was no answer for me!!
    Please.
    Thanks.

You have to download the drivers. To download them, press X key while your Mac is starting to start into Mac OS X, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the steps to download them. You will have to burn them onto a DVD or USB drive, so you will be able to install the drivers on Windows. Then, it should work fine.
If you can't download them in Boot Camp Assistant, download the drivers from this website > http://www.cafe-encounter.net/p682/download-bootcamp-drivers The links are from Apple and that's safe to download and install

  • Windows Vista/ Boot Camp and Apple wireless keyboard/mouse

Could someone please outline the steps needed to make the apple wireless mouse and keyboard work with Windows Vista on the Mac. It was working fine before I installed the Mac drivers, but now nothing. Whats worse is my computer boots to windows automatically now so I can't use it at present!
    All help very gratefully received.
    Many thanks

You cannot use a keyboard or any other peripheral with the tv, I'm afraid. Think of it more like a giant ipod than a little mini in that respect.

  • I have usb driver in may macbook pro 15 retina. When I installed windows 7 and try to download windows support into a CD, boot camp always said it couldn't find my usb driver.

I have usb driver in may macbook pro 15 retina. When I installed windows 7 and try to download windows support into a CD, boot camp always said it couldn't find my usb driver. My mac version is 10.8.3

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Install the Windows support software from the USB drive. Note that Boot Camp Assistant, in OS X 10.8.3, doesn't support the option to burn the Windows support software into a disc.
Instead, you can try a different thing. Start in Windows and download the Windows support software in it > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638 Then, decompress the file and run the Boot Camp drivers installer.
If you can't access to the Internet in Windows, start in OS X and download the Windows support software from the same link. Decompress the file, right-click the folder which will show up after decompressing the file and select "Burn". Finally, start in Windows and install the Boot Camp drivers

  • Installing Parallels when Boot Camp already running Windows

I'm considering installing Parallels on my MacBook Pro, which I already have partitioned with a drive running Windows using Boot Camp. What I need to know is, do I need to eliminate the partition with Boot Camp and if so, will I have to completely reinstall Windows and all my Windows software? I don't want to waste the partition that's dedicated to the virtual drive, rather I'd prefer to have the entire hard drive available to MAC. I really want to have parallels, as it's easier for me to be able to work on Windows and MAC applications at the same time, without having to stop-shut down-restart each time.

Parallels can use your existing Boot Camp partition for the VM, if that's what you're asking. However, if you want to have all one partition (without the Boot Camp one), then yes, you'll have to reinstall Windows when you install Parallels, unless there's some way to "import" your Boot Camp" setup that I don't know about.

  • Boot Camp Question .... I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp. If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"

I just bought a 2013 late model Mac Book Pro Retina and am wondering if it is worth installing windows through boot camp.
If I install the windows component in order to run an exe file and its component "Declans Korean Flash Cards"... will it make my mac suseptible to viruses overall due to having a windows component? also will it make my mac slower as well

If you are only going to use one or two window only programs then I wouldn't waste the space.  Try WinonX it allows you to install exe. Files on Mac without installing windows.

  • Will upgrading to Snow Leopard affect my Windows 7 boot camp partition?

    Hi,
Did some preliminary searching on this before posting but couldn't find with confidence my answer. Does anybody know? Details below.
Q: Will upgrading to Snow Leopard affect my Windows 7 boot camp partition?
I'm running 10.5.8 on a single drive with two partitions. 1st partition for OS-x is extended (journaled), 2nd partiction (ntfs) has solid version of Windows 7 RC, build 7100 running.
    Thanks.

    Hi Michael,
here are some nice 'Myths and Facts' about Intel Macs and BootCamp http://refit.sourceforge.net/myths/
Bottom line: while not exactly needed for installing Windows on an Intel-based Mac, the BootCamp Assistant 'streamlines' the process with a nice GUI (no need for 'cryptic' Terminal commands).
Mac OSX as of now (10.5 Leopard and above) plus the uptodate firmware for Intel-Macs already include everything needed to install and boot Windows.
Deleting or reformating an OSX partition does not affect the Windows partition.
However a repartitioning of course does, if the Windows partition is on the same harddisk.
But even a repartitioning of any other harddisk (ones that not have the Windows partition on them) does not affect the Windows partition.
Did that myself when adding/upgrading the harddisks in my Mac Pro.
Nonetheless, when 'fumbling' with harddisks and partition structure I always have backups of my important files at hand.
    Take care
    Stefan

  • HT1846 can i install boot camp and run explorer 9 on my mack

I need to be able to use Internet explorer (7 or higher) on my Mac.  If I install boot camp and windows will I be able to?

    Yes.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Windows 7 Boot Camp no longer recognize my wireless mouse and Keyboard?

I have a mid 2011 27in iMac on 10.9.1 and I run Windows 7 via boot camp, sometimes Parallels as well. Today I tried to boot up in to Windows via Boot Camp, but I can not control the cursor or input anything via kayboard. This has happened before and I only got it working again after reinstalling Windows, which I am REALLY trying to avoid
The thing is, when I boot in to Windows, it is definitely responding to the keyboard when I hold F8 to go in to safe mode, but once the desktop loads up, I lose any function of mouse or keyboard. Even when I try to manually add a device using a USB mouse, it is not detecting any wireless device.
Both my Magic Trackpad and Wireless Keyboard work fine in OS X, Windows 7 when in Parallels and works during the start up of boot camp, but not when Windows 7's desktop boots up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

GTA 4 on windows 7 BOOT camp texture problem, macbook pro 13 january 2011 help .

    my problem looks like this

    gta 4 steam !

If GTA IV believes the system is under specification even though the computer is powerful enough to run the game with higher settings, the following will fix this problem.
This will work if your problem looks like this: "resource usage 230/60" and you can't change any other setting
    Just follow the steps:
    Step 1: Create a text file named ‘commandline.txt’ (without the " ")
Step 2: Put the following statement inside it:
    i5 users: -availablevidmem 18.0 (with the -)
    i7 users: -availablevidmem 22.0 (with the -)
Step 3: Open the main GTAIV folder (C/ program files (86)/ rockstar games/ GTA IV) and copy the commandline.txt file into it.
Step 4: locate the file "GTAIV.exe" (in GTA main folder)
Right click the file and select Properties
Under the shortcut tab, you will see an area that says Target
Modify the Target adding the command line after the last quotation mark (just add the statement you added in commandline.txt)
    (remember, i5 users: -availablevidmem 18.0 / i7 users: -availablevidmem 22.0)
It should look something like this:
Make sure to add space between " and -"
I hope This helps, although late cx
