Windows XP sp2 on Macbook

Hi all, I have installed Windows xp sp2 home edition on my 10.6.7 Macbook with boot camp. However, I cannot connect to the internet on my windows because it's basically new and has nothing on it. Also, I have never set internet up myself before. I used the disc for my dell computer. In my "my connections" page theres not icons such as "Lan connections, wireless connections, etc" and i cannot just set it up from the links on the sidebar. I can go on internet just fine on my Mac side. I believe I need drivers to set those all up but have no idea where to find them. I don't remember and don't think there's any installation disc that came with my macbook. I clicked the download window software support option on my bootcamp assistant but it does not show anything available. I have googled and read many forums and none of the options can solve this. Please help...

The Boot Camp drivers are on the 10.6 Snow Leopard disk. Just put it into the CD drive when you're booted into Windows and after a minute or so the autoplay screen will come up.

  • No luck installing Windows XP SP2 on Macbook hal.dll error

    1. I partitioned 45GB with Boot Camp Assistant.
    2. Loaded Win XP SP2 CD and started installation.
    3. Formatted BOOTCAMP partition on NTFS Quick (Also tried NTFS normal [slow])
    4. After it copies everything to the drive and reboots I get a hal.dll missing/corrupt error.
I have tried repartitioning dozens of times and have tried 3 different Windows CDs
    Thanks for your help

    Startup from the windows CD,
delete the 200MB sized partition and the Bootcamp partition.
Then make a new NTFS partition from the new space and install XP.
It's the 200MB partition that has something to do with boot record, Bootcamp does not recognize it's own partition as bootpartition!
    Good luck installing windows!

  • No audio (and "no audio device") in WIndows XP on my MacBook Pro 17"

    Greetings,
I just installed Windows XP SP2 on my new MacBook Pro 17" and everything is working smoothly EXCEPT that there's no sound in Windows from the built-in speakers, and in fact the Control Panel reads "No audio device." I have already successfully installed the Boot Camp drivers from my Leopard DVD. I also tried to run the Boot Camp 2.1 update (downloaded directly from the Apple site) but the installer cannot be run and gives error 2762, whatever that is. Finally, I've seen on some forum posts that certain Realtek drivers may fix similar problems on other machine, so I downloaded and installed Realtek R2.27 high definition audio driver but that doesn't seem to have done the trick for me.
I'm guessing this problem could be fixed easily by the correct audio driver but I can't figure out what that is or how to find it. Please help, any advice would be appreciated!

    Hello!
I have my MacBook Pro with Leopard 10.6.8 with Boot Camp 3 on it.Reading a BOOT CAM article I could see that it supports Windows XP SP2.I just installed Windows XP SP2...and when I am trying to use the drivers from MAC DVD it says that BOOT CAMP needs Windows 7.Why I can not use XP?Or where I can get the proper drivers?I have downloaded Boot Camp Drivers XP update pack 2.1 and tried touse it in that XP but just double clicking on it doesn't happen anything:(
    Please Help.

Your saying BC 3.4 is on the Mac installer disk? I picked mine up in august 2011 and it only has 3.1 on it if I remember right. How did you check it?
As of today my BC Assistant says 3.4 but the Control panel in Windows only says 3.3, I figure it an't broke I'm not worried about it.
When you insert the disk, it asks you what to do, Run or Open, select Open.
Make a new folder on the desktop in XP, drag ALL the files over to it.
Right click on the setup.exe and select one of the options:
1)-Troubleshoot Compatibility, do what it suggests,
2)-Select Properties / Compatibility / click Run this program in Compatibility mode: then select XP sp2 and work your way up.
If anything pops up about permissions then right click on it again and select Run as Administrator.
If it still won't work then open the Boot Camp folder / Drivers folder / and install each one manually.

  • HT5628 how do I install windows on retina display macbook pro

How do I install Windows on my macbook pro retina display so that I can play an external cd

I inserted a flashdrive and followed the bootcamp directions.  I then thought that I could purchase windows online and download that program.  When I went to buy windows online, it was $199.00 so I started searching further for an alternative.  That led me to blogs regarding parallels, fusion and Virtualbox info.   Which led me to more confusion after searching the apple store to buy paralles.  I then found out that I needed a windows disc or something to download to actually get windows.     Then I quit.
I'm not sure why this particular CD wont play.  Some of my music CDs do play so I know the device works.
So, here is the part that will download and states the requirements.....

  • Can Windows XP SP2 Be Installed With Boot Camp on OS X Mountain Lion?

    Hello,
I use the MacBook Pro Retina and currently have a Windows 7 partition which works fine.
However, if I want to create a Windows XP SP2 partition as well, how can I do that?
I have the install disk, but is it possible to have 2 boot camp partitions? How could I do this?
Also, how can I install Windows XP and have it running successfully?
    Thank you

You don't, just upgrade Windows 7 to Win 7 Pro or above and it will run XP programs and if they don't you can download XP for free from Microsoft and virtualize it within Win 7.

The free Virtualbox, does the job and gets updates on older OS X versions, Fusion and Parallels (commercial software) keep routinely begging for cash or deny you security updates and forces you to upgrade to later OS X versions your machine may later can't handle.

  • No USB Functionality After Coming Out of Standby Mode - Windows XP SP2

I currently use my MacBook with Boot Camp to run Windows XP SP2 (as the default boot OS). I have enabled standby so that I can save battery power. However, whenever I come out of standby, it seems as if the USB ports no longer work. Sometimes I'll have a USB mouse plugged in and it will no longer work after coming out of standby (in the past, it would take like 10 minutes to work, but now it seems to not work at all). I have tried unplugging it and plugging it into a different USB port with no success. I have even tried another USB device (a digital photo frame product) and it doesn't detect either (although it seems to provide power via the USB port because the digital photo frame shows the "connecting..." screen). Any help regarding this is greatly appreciated, since its so frustrating to have to reboot to gain access to my USB ports. Thanks!

Same with BootCamp v2.1 and in XP SP3. More Apple software bugs it seems (seem to be rampant across all their gadgets - e.g. iPod Touch 2G v2.1.1 WiFi WPA/WPA2 failures, etc.).
Frustrated, thinking about third party Bluetooth keyboard mouse (e.g. Logitech DiNovo Edge works great on my Mac mini with it's own mini USB bluetooth receiver, just tap a key to resume from standby like you're supposed to be able to!) -- or a traditional Logitech wireless.

  • Installing Windows XP SP2

i recently purchased windows xp sp2 online and im waiting for it. But i had a couple of questions.... im running on a macbook pro 13" with snow leopard and when lion comes out i want to buy it. But will lion ruin my windows xp if i have it installed then update snow leopard to lion.

You should have backups no matter what you run.
I would not recommend XP though.
If your 13" is 2011 and new then you would be best/better served with Windows 7 Home Premium.
And if past is a hint, a new OS can require updating the hard drive in ways that you could lose Windows partition. Or require formatting. But no one knows for sure about Lion. Or can say anything.

  • Airport Express not working with printer on Windows, works fine on Macbook

I have an airport express that is connected to my Brother laser printer. I installed the software and it works and prints fine on my macbook pro.
I tried to also set it up using my Dell running Windows XP SP2, but after using the instructions, it looked like it set up fine and the printer is recognized, but when I try and print, it just gives me an error message that that printer is "busy or unable to print".
    Any ideas?

Is there another solution to this problem? I have two PCs running WinXP and can not print with either one of them through Airport Express. Printing works fine with MacBook. I have Bonjour on both PCs and have run the setup wizard. The printer seems to be connecting and then hangs up on "communicating with printer."

  • Fn+Del Not Working in Windows XP SP2

I recently purchased a MacBook (2.2 GHz, 120 GB HD, 1 GB RAM, etc.) and decided to install Windows XP SP2 via Boot Camp. I followed all the instructions and it looks like Windows XP installed succesfully. However, I'm now experiencing a small problem. The Boot Camp help and instructions state that Fn+Del will function as the Windows delete key, but this doesn't seem to work. Anyone have any advice on how to fix this, or is something wrong with the Keyboard drivers that has to be fixed by Apple?
    - Marc

Myself and others have had the same problem. The other thing that doesn't work is PrintScreen (fn + F11). I have the exact same MacBook as you. I created a thread about this same problem in this forum back in November, and there was no "official" fix. But now I use AutoHotKey (autohotkey.com), and you can create any keyboard shortcut on your own. Instead of Fn + delete, I created a shortcut for command + delete to do a Windows Delete. I also made shortcuts for PrintScreen, Page Up, Page Down, etc.

  • Can't connect to a PC (Windows XP SP2) from my MacBooc (OSX)

    Hi!
    Here are the details:
    The PC
    1. Windows XP SP2. SAV, Zone Alarm.
    2. GUEST account disabled.
    3. The Admin account (renamed) with a password
    MacBook (Mac OS X)
All the settings are the standard ones. Nothing changed.
    The PROBLEM
I cannot connect the PC (Win XP SP2) from my MacBook. I can perfectly use some ftp client; the MS Remote desktop, but if I try to connect the PC from (say) the finder (apple-K) I allways get the same "username or password is not correct" message, whatever I do... I never set a password for this connection. Nowhere!
Please, advise me how to connect the PC from my MacBook.
    Thanks a lot!

    OK,
Now we have something to work with.
    On the PC:
    Determine Workgroup name:
RightClick MyComputer, LeftClick Properties. Look under ComputerName tab, make note of WorkGroup name.
    On the mac:
Applications>Utilities>DirectoryAccess...Unlock, tick SMB/CIFS, then click Configure...
Enter the WorkGroupName that you got from the PC...in teh Workgroup box on Mac.
Apply, OK, or whatever...approve it all.
Restart both machines again. Sorry, it's a Windows habit.
(We're probably going to ask you to disable SAV, and make sure that ZoneAlarm has the local network as 'approved' or something. It's been three yrs since I used ZA)...does your SAV have a firewall, too? Bad idea to run two firewalls, but let's move along with that workgroup business up there.
