Wine and unhandled page fault

Hello,
I've just installed wine from extra and when I try to run winecfg I get :

I tried to get it from aur and make the package but I get the same problem.
Does anybody have a solution?
Thanks a lot

I don't have a solution, but I have the same problem.
To start at the beginning of the story, I've had the wine-based port of google's picasa 2 on my laptop for a while, and it worked well, and then as of recently, it takes like 2 minutes of doing nothing to start up. Picasa includes its own wine binaries, so I installed wine from Arch's repo, trying stuff to see if it would help, and winecfg gave me the same problem.
Anyway, I didn't care enough to figure it out. However, I think that perhaps a kernel update broke wine or something.

I've had this error with a few apps in the past and have just come across it again when trying to run safari.

I have tried adding noexec=off noexec32=off to my kernel line and compiling wine with different suggested settings from other forums but I've had no luck.
It's not overly important to myself, certainly nothing that would make me wanna switch from Arch64. But if anyone knows how to fix it please let me know (besides using a chroot).

  • Numerous Unhandled page faults

While running a couple different games, including The Sims 3 and Pharaoh/Cleopatra, I've gotten errors about unhandled page faults on read and write accesses to varying addresses. The games crash and report error messages with the address of the page fault and some other info. I had never seen these errors before updating to Yosemite shortly after its release, but now see them often.
For other reasons, I replaced my previous hard drive with an SSD and did a clean OS install, copying over only some document folders onto the new drive, but still experience these errors.
Has anybody seen a solution to this?
    Specs:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009) running Mac OS X 10.10.1 Yosemite
    8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory
2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB Video Card

Check wine's appdb. It looks like System Shock 2 refuses to run due to Safe disk copy protection. Find a crack over the net and before complaing about game not working under wine, ask google: "wine appdb game name"
Find information about the second game yourself

  • How to fix: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x00aa4088 .

    hi
i recently downloaded a game (assassins creed I), i opened it and the intro showed up after that the screen went white, then black and a window came up calld exception raised and then below it, it said, Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x00aa4088.
i have tried opening it many times and the same results come up.
i've looked everywere and found that other people have had this same problem but no one has fixed it yet
    any help will be appreciated
    thanks

I did try the OP's solution, but it proved to be only temporary. Take a gander at my proposition, and if you are experiencing many issues with your MBA and WiFi Connection, try doing all of the possible fixes located on these forums to see which one (hopefully) works for you. Here's my attempt at a solution.
Well, after toying around with many of the settings on the MBA, I then began to work on the AirPort Extreme (Gigabit Version) and I discovered that the MBA would only connect when I selected "Interference Robustness" when configuring the MBA. This made a difference no matter what "Wireless Mode" the AE was in, be it 802.11n(b/g) Support, plain 802.11n(5Ghz), ect. So, try that out if you have an AirPort Extreme/Express and MBA, and post your results. The MBA is running 10.5.5 with only one update remaining (10.5.6).
    {This has posted in various threads by me, myself, and I, and I am only reposting so that many threads are aware of this. Hope it helps at least one person.}

Thanks for that ... When you say Sims 3, is that the name, or does it have another title.

  • Wine and Intel HD 3000 with lib32-intel-dri

I have a HP ProBook 4530s with Intel HD 3000 graphics. Wine doesn't find the graphics card. Usually lib32-intel-dri has solved this, however this time it didn't.

For me native apps works too (glxgears and glxgears32 from mesa-demos and lib32-mesa-demos). I don't have any 64-bit windows apps to test. Here is similar bug report (closed): https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/27645.

  • Wine and WoW Cataclysm beta.

    Hello all,
Cataclysm used to work on this install, but now does not.   I know cataclysm is in beta, so it is unsupported, but my none beta wow works perfectly.
What happens is, I copied my cataclysm install from my working windows box.  Launched cataclysm on Arch and it worked.  Played like that for a couple days.  blizzard had a small update at which point I got the following error, which I will post below.  I then ran Cataclysm in windows, updated and then recopied to arch.  This again, worked...until yesterday.   I played in the AM, and then when I came to play in the evening, I started getting the error below.  I recopied from windows, but that did not work.
Is this something that can be fixed via a patch to wine or something on my system?  or is it a "wait until it's released" type of thing?  THe only reason I ask is, WoW works, Cataclysm did work but now doesn't

Yes, I have tried both of those. I read through the entire arch wiki entry on WoW and followed it exactly, no success. I have also tried directx mode just in case it would prefer that, still corruption.
I previously used Ubuntu and had no issues whatsoever. Not complaining, I just know that at one point it did work with my video card. That was the lucid build so it would have been 10.04 catalyst drivers?

  • Invalid Page Fault Error Messages - ICC Profiles and Fonts

Possible causes of these error messages include bad ICC profiles and/or bad fonts. See below for corrective measures

    Q: Message reads:

    KERNEL32.DLL at 017f:bff7b9f5. Registers:
    EAX=796692e0 CS=017f EIP=bff7b9f5 EFLGS=00210202 EBX=00d0fe28 SS=0187 ESP=00c10000...
A: You have an incompatible or corrupt ICC profile in your
    Windows/System/Color folder (win 98/98SE/Me) or ./system32/spool/drivers/color (win2k).
Make a temporary folder, ICMs, under and move all the
ICM and ICC files to that folder.
Start PS and make sure it restarts OK.
Now move back JUST THE PROFILES YOU NEED to Windows\System\Color (win 98/98SE/Me) or ./system32/spool/drivers/color (win2k)

  • Svchost.exe with "Dhcp, eventlog, lmhosts" services is generating thousands of page faults and I/O reads per second?

On one of our Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise (SP1) servers, we're noticing a strange phenomenon.....that the svchost.exe that hosts "Dhcp, eventlog, lmhosts" is constantly generating page faults....a few thousand per second, accumulating to billions of total
page faults.  I/O reads and I/O other are also rising every second.  Cpu is consistently 2%, and memory is constant. (~40M).
I'm guessing that it's the eventlog service because our HP openview log reader (opcle.exe) is also working hard to keep up.  I've searched for others posting a similar problem but am coming up empty handed.
This is a MS Analysis Services 2008 server, but we haven't noticed any problems coming from SSAS.  We have other file sharing-related jobs that interact with this server, that sometimes take 30 min and sometimes 6 hours, for the same workload....and
we're thinking that the 6 hour runs are somehow related to this process's unusual page faults.
Anyone else seen this eventlog strange behavior?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The best thing would be downloading the Process Explorer and analyzing the problem.

  • Invalid Page fault in IMM32.dll on Japanese Win 98

    Hi
First of all, let me say that I'm new to internationalization fundamentals.
My Java application uses i18n.jar for internationalization support(primarily Japanese) and everything seems to be fine on all OSes(Win2k,NT,98,Solaris etc), except that in particular menu options in Japanese version of Win98(m/c has MS-IME 98 running), a Windows fatal error pops up saying "Javaw caused a invalid page fault in module IMM32.dll". IMM32.dll, I understand, is the dll required for i18n support in Windows.
This error comes up if we exit immediately after launching application or when trying to launch new windows for charts etc.
Could you please suggest a workaround or a fix to this issue? What could be the root cause of the problem, I mean, does i18n.jar use the IMM32.dll, or is it just a conflict? Have there been other such cases?
Thanks for all your advice in advance
    Regards
    Santosh

If Javaw is causing the page fault, that's very much a bug in native code (i.e. Windows-only stuff) within the VM.
Search through the bug database on this site, and you'll more than likely find a corresponding bug report for this if it's been around a while and is fairly easy to produce. If you can't find it, submit it - I'm sure the Sun guys would be concerned to hear that Javaw is crashing and burning.
    Hope that helps!

  • Hotsync Crashes (invalid page fault) - address book

Help - I know I have an old setup, but I really need help ...
I'm trying to sync between a Samsung i500 and my win 98se computer using Palm desktop 4.1 and Hotsync Manager 4.0.4. It's been working great for YEARS but I did something and now it always crashes. I CAN'T update - I have a full office of these computers running software that CAN'T run on newer systems.
I usually sync between REA (a little organizer program) and Palm and my phone, but that crashed so I EXPORTED the address database (in a comma delimited form) then brought up the database in Works and cleaned it out of comma's and any bad records I could find.
I've tried uninstalling Palm Desktop AND doing a HARD reboot on my phone, then syncing with NO addresses.  That worked once.  But then when I imported the addresses in Palm Desktop, on the next HotSync it crashed again (invalid page fault).
My address book is about 10,700 records, I don't know if that is the problem.  HELP

No one replyed ... but I managed to call Palm One (866-751-7256) paid tech support.  Herb correctly pointed out article 24515 that points out a maximum of 10,376 records that can be synced.  So I need to (somehow) delete some records.  Then I'll try reloading software and syncing.

  • Failed client instal (orainst | msvcrt.dll) page fault

I am trying to uninstall the oracle client (all componenets) from a Windows 95 machine and while trying to unistall the process causes an illegal operation and then bombs out. I try to reinstall over the existing installation and I get the same thing "illegal operation". Oraninst.exe is causing a page fault in msvcrt.dll. This is a predictable reproducable problem that occurs everytime I run the installation or try to run the unistallation. I read a microsoft technet document about this problem and updated the C runtime library "msvcrt.dll" to the lates version and continue to get the same error. Anyone else ever see this error. I would imagine it would be quite common?

most of the development tools, however, not
for the Oracle Workgroup Server v. 7.3.4 for
Win NT 4.0 (build 1381 with Service Pack 5),

Anyone know of a patch or anything for this?

  • Fix? iTunes slow to import CD, sync iPod, freezes on credits - Page Faults

    All,
Using Windows XP on a computer with 512 M of memory (lightning fast for it's time) I found that iTunes would import CDs at 0.3x to 0.7x, way too slow. iTunes resonded slugglishly to UI commands. And the credits screen (help - about iTunes) would freeze. Other applications do not have this problem. I found that iTunes memory management is sub optimal, at best. This causes iTunes to swap portions of its active program memory to the hard disk, slowing the interface by a factor of x1000.
How to verify if this is happening:
    1. Open task manager by RIGHT clicking on the date on the windows control bar
    2. Click on the "Process" tab, then from the menu select "View" then "Select columns . . "
    3. Make sure "CPU", ("handles" (i.e. open files), "threads" (i.e. parallel processes), and "page faults" are checked. Page faults are swap of memory to the hard disk.
    4. Open iTunes, use as usual (e.g. view credits)
    5. If iTunes becomes slow (right away in my case), watch for increasing page faults (what I experience) or excessive threads or handles.
In my case I'm getting over 1000 page hits a second when viewing credits. Someone didn't use good programming skills. (Not necessarily Apple, see below)
Note: I see, and expect, the CPU to go to 100% while importing CDs.
Please note: ** I do not use a mail client on this machine. ** I use a web based mail program and do not use MS outlook, and I don't want to. I only mention this because when I used iTunes, it locked up and I also received an error saying that I needed to setup my outlook client. Turning off automatic updates seems to have solved this lockup.
Since I run Word, excel, iExlorer, games, and windows media manager without error I'm having trouble understanding why iTunes uses so much system resources. Poor development tools? Virtual machine? Bug in complier library?
    Thigs to try to fix:
Since this is a memory issue: Try one or more of the following:
Minimize the screen when importing CD (screen calls are a hog)
This is what made the most improvement for me.
    Stop all other programs
This allowed me to stop the credits screen.
Try stopping / halting your antivirus programs
Try updating your Video card driver.
Note: I have a 'business' style video card. Aboslutly no bells/whistles. I do not wish to upgrade to a directX card just to allow easy transfers to my iPod / iTouch. I am using an Intel 82810E Graphics Controller with drivers provided by Wicrosoft.
Set your performance for best performance:
+ Right click on the "My Computer" icon
+ Click on "advanced" - "Performance" - Visual
+ Click on "adjust for best performace"
Note: This changes the XP look, had no effect for me.
If you are still having trouble, close iTunes, open the Windows Media player to import your CD with the following settings: Tools - Options
Player - Deselect start player in media guide (unless you really like it)
Copy Music - Deselect Copy Protect Music (otherwise it only works in WMP)
    Root cause?
I suspect that the iTunes is calling a function that it expects the video card to do easily. I suspect that the video card doesn't have that functionality, so the video card driver tries to emulate the functionality. The slow response from the driver apparently causes iTunes to go haywire.
    If you read this far:
Please let me know if you found this helpful by writing a response.
If you can think of anything (other than buying a new computer) that would allow this applicaiton to work, let me know. BTW: A real old version of quicktime works just fine on my 486!
    Apple developers:
I would be open for a test bed if you need older HW to qualify on.
Any idea why the credits would cause the page faults?
Any way to use a bare bones video library (e.g. no scrolled fades etc.)?
For an application that essentially copies files to my iPod, it sure uses a lot of resources.

    Welcome to AD!
This is a user chat board - Apple developers won't be seeing your post. You could re-send it using
itunes menu > Help > Provide iTunes Feedback
    Hoewever, don't expect a reply.
the iTunes 8.1 system requirements page states
    +A DirectX 9.0-compatible video card with 32MB of video RAM; 64MB recommended+
It's not that surprising that itunes doesn't act right on your PC.
