Wine + Steam setup

Hello all,
New to the arch scene, and enjoying my time here so far..
I just finished setting up my x86_64 system and proceeded to get wine installed. I saw that there's only a 32-bit version, so I did a pacman -U install of the bin32-wine package found at the Arch Linux Gaming Repository. Upon completion, I was able to start wine, meddle around in winecfg, and run winetricks to get the gecko package installed.
I downloaded Steam. The install went fine, then Steam attempted to start. It did it's download, then closed, then reopened with the new theme (but not the entire program, just that download window), continued to download to 100%. Once the download was complete, I awaited for Steam to start, but it did not.
I restarted Steam and found the following:
wine "C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steam.exe"
fixme:process:SetProcessShutdownParameters (00000100, 00000000): partial stub.
CellID: Fetching server list from CSDS. . .
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 139 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 765
Current serial number in output stream: 765
I assumed this error is related to my X configuration or the video driver. X is running with Catalyst 10.4, and I installed the lib32-catalyst-utils package.
My question is this: where did I go wrong?
pacman -Q | grep lib32

Set it to Windows 7 and Steam started up just fine. Now to see how it handles playing a game...
edit: That was it. Games launch and everything works perfectly. Although Steam was nice enough to inform me that Windows 2000 support would be ending soon.
I knew I was close

  • Can I use Win Xp setup apllication, found in "I386" folder?

Is it all possible, to reinstall win xp using the setup file found in the I386 file on my harddrive, it asks for a cab1 file, but I can only assume it has only been extracted as there are a load of files with the last letter of their file name replaced by an underscore, if not is there a way to reinstall from the recovery CD's without reformatting, and recreating the partition on my harddrive>

    Hello Evan
As far as I know it is not possible to reinstall the unit using I386 folder. For installation you should use recovery CD. Before the OS installation the partition must be reformatted but it must NOT be recreated (free space changing).
In this case you must use Expert mode installation and you will be able to install the OS on persisting partition (C).
Please do not choose the option to create a new partition because on this way the whole HDD will be formatted, just installation on persisting partition.
    Bye

  • Wine + Steam(windows) + bumblebee. How to get working?

    Hi,
I would ove to play some of my windows only steam games in linux, so i installed the windows version of steam using wine.
How do i get bumblebee to run the game on the nvidia card?  i think all that happens is wine gets run on the nvidia card, or just steam gets run on the card, while the gam only has very low performance.

Please formulate your sentences just a tiny bit better because it is a bit diffuse.
You have a nVidia card, does the game start or not? or is it just laggy?
What gl library are you using (nvidia or mesa?).
Also, what does your xorg.conf say (Especially the `Device` part on your nvidia card).
Most importantly: What nVidia card do you have?

  • Win 98 Setup problems

Have just bought MX4000 128MB card, which states on the box that it is compatible with Win 98, and was advised by the sales guy that this was the case.
Have just got home and tried to install it from the setup disk, to be told - Setup does not support your O/S. I am trying to download the driver direct from this website, which MAY fix the problem, but if setup supports 98SE and not 98, shouldn't this be obvious from the packaging?Any thoughts gratefully received.

This card should work fine with Win98SE. I have an MX440 on my children's pc similar to the MX4000 by all accounts. I am using the 30.82 detonator driver and have zero issues.
As regards set up / driver loading issues may I suggest that you do it this way
Right click on desktop>Properties>Settings>Advanced>Adapter>Change>Next>Select display a list of drivers in a specific location, next>Select Have Disk....Then select where the driver should be installed from ie either disk or file on your pc.
    Hope this helps......

  • Wine: Steam fails after 'Connecting Steam account: account '

    (Great first post no? )
I've been crawling through WineHQ and the Archlinux forums for the last few days examining similar issues, but so far non of the solutions in them have worked out for me.
So the problem is as follows: Steam starts, the connecting to account window pops up, runs for a while and when it should close then start the main Steam window it just silently quits.
I'm fairly new to Arch and linux in general, I made sure I read the manuals and guides before jumping in, so I'm either missing something crazy simple or its totally over my head.
I've double checked that I have the ttf-win7-fonts, gecko, tahoma (winetricks) and corefonts (winetricks) installed.
The output that Wine gives me when running Steam is: http://pastebin.com/XxgEad4K
I'm not sure if its relevant, but I'm using the xf86-video-ati drives for an ATI HD5570 (Redwood) card and direct rendering does work. Steam does consistently crash at 26% when updating, but resumes at 27-28% when restarted.
Does anyone know where I'm going wrong?

I think that your problem is the same than this
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=107030
you should install lib32-nvidia-utils. Do you have multilibs repo enabled in pacman.conf? Check wine wiki in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wine#x86_64

  • Satellite L755D-S5204 dead after new Win XP setup

Regarding that Toshiba Lab Top which I have Bought last weak,
Model: Satellite *L755D-S5204*, I had to setup a new system (Windows XP SP3 32bit)
But there is a one major problem; which is that the drivers definitions DvD was not Included with the Lab Top, and my Lab Top is currently dead.
I will be grateful if you provide me with a download link for the drivers Definitions DvD.

Well, you will not get the Toshiba Win XP Utilities working because there are no any Win XP driver or tools available for this notebook series. I really don't understand why you did not check this before installing an old system...
Of course LAN driver, WLan or BT stack could be downloaded from other notebook series or driver page You have to know what LAN or WLan card is installed in your notebook for that I recommend installing an hardware diagnostic software like Everest Home Edit or SANDRA Software to get more details about the hardware parts.
Then you could google for some compatible drivers

Power supply is a A+POWER ATX 450W power supply. It's a higher-end PSU, not one of the chepie PSUs that come with the cases.
Only other hardware that would make a difference is the ATI RADEON 9700 Pro, Samsung PC2700 RAM, and I think that's about it.

bluelineart, Welcome to the discussion area!
Do you have a Power Mac G3 450 MHz
OR an iMac G3 450 MHz?
The Blue & White Power Mac G3 450 MHz does NOT have an internal slot for ANY Apple wireless card.
The iMac G3 450 MHz is ONLY compatible with the original 802.11b AirPort card. It also requires the AirPort card adapter.
The card slides into the adapter.
Then the adapter slides into the iMac.

Hmm... that seems like we both have the same situation. Same error and the numbers of lib32 utils and driver differ. But I don't think that is the cause, because I can run WoW without any problems. But... it crashes with -opengl option.

    Hi,
I have added a SSD to my hp pavilion 500-417NG and want to install Windows 7 64Bit incl. SP1 to the SSD.
I'm using an USB stick to boot Win 7 setup.
Setup is starting as usual, allows me to select language, keyboard etc. and to start install.
Than it throws an error, stating a driver is missing and only provides options to search or retry.
I have downloaded all HP Win 7 drivers and made them available in a folder which is accessible during setup, but driver will not be found.
So I need to cancel setup.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Jaco,
already posting from my Windows 7 system ;-)
Yes, it was just the EFI bootfile required, all the rest worked as usual.
Actually, I have now a dual boot system, and both installation work great.
    Thx for supporting!

  • [SOLVED] WINE 1.3.27 segfaults

I had a nice working setup of Steam and some steam games (civ4 and team fortress 2 mainly), used last about a week ago.
After pulling up wine 1.3.27 with the usual upgrades, wine now keeps on segfaulting:
    kjozsa@walrus:~/.wine/drive_c/Steam$ wine Steam.exe
    fixme:process:SetProcessShutdownParameters (00000100, 00000000): partial stub.
    Segmentation fault
I've moved away my ~/.wine and did a fresh install of Steam with the exact same results, not even the Steam window can be brought up (notepad and explore.exe works correctly though). Any ideas what could go wrong or how to get more details about the problem?
Edit: a clean install of steam using winetricks gives the same segfaults too
Edit2: I'm using the multilib wine package on arch64
Edit3: appearently the problem may or may not be related to the wine update itself but was clearly caused by the upgrade of the latest nvidia-beta package. With the beta package 280.13.1 was working, 285.03-1 caused the segfaults and now rolling back to the stable 285.03 is working again.

Have you tried uninstalling the new version of wine and installing the older one that actually worked?  I've installed wine-dib from AUR and that works without issues as long as I don't enable WINEDIB.  The major difference is that is wine 1.3.11 instead of 1.3.27.

I get all the way thru the Win 7 setup, but just as the login screen is presented, I get the subject message.  That's the end of story, can't go further.
I just updated the BIOS and hard drive firmware to the latest versions on the Lenovo site as of today (3.09), and the hard drive firmware said no update needed.
Anybody know what will work?  Just academic now, as I will go ahead an reinstall win 7 normally....

Not true, mine is win7 pro and works, I think the problem is that lenovo makes a custimized boot for their utility

I got blue screen error STOP 0x0000007E which suggest it may be BIOS incompatibilty, a post in this forum had resolved by using XP SP2, but I'm already using Install CD with XP SP2.
Now, BIOS for the model PSL48E comes only for windows flashing. and I have no Windows on my system.
Even if I reinstall vista again and flash it with XP compatible bios I'm afraid I might loose vista compatibiliy (if XP dosn't work after all)
and it will render my system useless.
    Help please.

Here you will find a manual on how to install XP on an L40
