Winter time - clock always 20 minutes off

Hi,
Twice a year, the time changes here, and in october the time changes to winter time. Apparently my Archlinux does that automatically, how nice of it.
However, EVERY time, so I go through this shit twice a year, the week or two weeks after such a time change, my computer is always +/- 20 minutes off when I reboot it.
For example:
Today I booted up my computer at 7:45PM, and the time it displayed was 7:21PM.
You see? The error is not one hour, it is something near 20 minutes.
So I use "date -s" to set it to the actual date. And for the coming week or so I'll have to do that every time after I reboot again, because tomorrow when I reboot, the day after that, and so on, it'll always do this again. And after a week or two it'll suddenly stop happening.
I'd like to ask two things:
-How do I fix this, I find this very annoying and NEVER want to see this again.
-Why does it happen? Why 20 minutes? What kind of process could be programmed to do something confusing to the clock involving a time of around 20 minutes?? It could be Archlinux itself, or KDE 3.5, or something else, I haven't got a clue.
Please help, I'm tired of this shit twice a year.
Windows doesn't do this by the way, so don't blame my hardware.

It was the hwclock. So it kind of was my hardware to blame anyway.
I did "hwclock --systohc" and hopefully that fixed it forever.
Sorry if my post sounded a bit frustrated, it's just because it was such an annoying problem.
It still remains a problem with weird behaviour: on a day where the time changes, it does it perfectly when booting that morning. The next +/- 14 days, it's skewed every morning. Then it's stabilized again.
Thanks for the help!

  • [SOLVED] GNOME:(Please help) Time is always 4 hours off after reboot

    Hello,
I've had this odd problem for months now on Gnome and i'm going to finally ask for help.  Basically, the time is always minus four hours (it is 8:38 am right now but it says 4:38 am).  Manually adjusting the time does work, but it always resets after a reboot.  My location in the time/date/weather panel app is set correctly.  I've searched the forums and google but none of the fixes have worked, one involved changing my hardware clock from the terminal but it didnt have any effect.
The system time in the bios is always correct.
This is on my laptop (x86_64).  My desktop, which is a nearly identical setup except that it is i686, has never had this issue, in fact i'm on it right now and the time is correct.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    It's the "localtime" one.

Every time I turn my mac off, the desktop background changes. It always returns to the same picture, which was the second or third thing I changed my desktop to after getting my mac. I have background switching unchecked in my preferences, and I have never selected it as an option. Also, when I go to my preferences, it will show the icon of the picture I changed it to, even though the desktop itself has switched back.

I would start with some basic troubleshooting.

  • My Iphone 5 clock alarm isnt going off when its "on sound", it acts as if its on vibrate and doesnt wake me up. Started with the IOS upgrade. Is there a bug?

My new Iphone 5 clock alarm isnt going off where I can hear it.  Its started on my 4S when I upgraded to IOS6 and even on the Itouch too.  I set the clock alarm, turn on sound (not silent), the alarm goes off, but no sounds comes out.   I have to reset home to get it to recognize its off, but that doesnt always work, it did it on both my Itouch and Iphone5 I almost over slept this morning because never of them went off and woke me up.   Acted as it the sound was down (which it wasnt) and it was on silent mode (which it wasnt)  Is there a bug with this?  I cant trust my phone now to wake me up.  Any help?  Thanks Tracey

Same problem here. Me and my girlfriend swapped iphone 5's (she has white, I have black) in may and I rely on the alarm every morning to wake me up for work. It hasn't let me down.
A few days ago I set 2 alarms very early in the morning to wake me up for an early morning flight. Neither alarm made a sound & I missed the flight!!
We then swapped our phones back & she has just had exactly the same thing happen & has missed an important meeting at work. Again, quite an early morning alarm. The odd thing is I have a black iphone 5, also latest OS,  never had this happen to me...
Has anyone solved this problem. I can't make it repeat (reset the same alarm for a different time & it goes off fine).
Does I need to buy her a dedicated alarm clock!?!

  • Summer Time -- Winter Time

    Hello fellow admins,
In Europe, during the night of october 29th to october 30th, we will change from Summer time to Winter Time.
In my company we have always stopped our SAP systems during the "time leap" from 3am to 2am.
We know that, when setting the system parameter zdate/DSTswitch_contloctime = on, the SAP abap kernel will be able to "slow" time to avoid the time leap.
We are now investigating if we could avoid to stop our ECC6, R/3 4.7, SRM and CRM systems.
What bothers us is that SAP only guarantees the BASIS module and tell that we should check each functional module to decide if a time difference between SAP time and legal time up to 30 minutes is acceptable for our business processes.
I would like to do a kind of poll to know what you do with your own SAP systems.
Could you, please, answer by telling which SAP system is used and if you stop it or keep it running during the time change ?
Thank you in advance for sharing information.
    Regards,
    Olivier

    Hello
During that period our business will send a notice to the end users that the system will not available during this period and we stop all our applications(DEV, QAS & PRD) ECC, ECC HCM, EP, SRM, Solman.
It's always good to bring down the system to avoid any business impact or any new challenges.
    Thanks & regards
    bala

  • 2nd Gen iPod touch clock loses eight minutes

I set the time on my touch to the correct time. It stays correct for a while, but sometime over the next day, I discover that the clock is eight minutes slow. Clearly not a time zone or syncing thing (my MBP's clock is accurate). What else could it be? Any ideas?

I don't know what is causing it but I would restart it (hold the Sleep/Wake button down until you see the slider switch and turn it off) or reset it (hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons down together until you see the Apple logo).
Either one of those activities will most likely fix it. However, if they do not, plug it in to iTunes and restore it.

  • Clock runs 6 minutes behind after 4.3 download

I have a lot of the same issues that everyone has with their G3 since 4.3; poor battery life, iffy WiFi connection, and flaky connection with the Bluetooth in my Prius - There is another issue with my G3 that since the 4.3 download that I have not seen anyone make reference to.
The day after I did the 4.3 download, I happened to notice that the clock on the phone was 6 minutes behind the clock in my bedroom.  I figured that the alarm clock was fast, but when I checked the phone against my atomic clock, I realized that the Network time on my phone was indeed 6 minutes behind.
Thinking that the automatic time had somehow been disabled with the update, I went to Settings > Date and time > Automatic date and time / Use network-provided time, and found the that the box was checked; so I unchecked and rechecked; no change.  Then I unchecked and manually set the correct time; but when I re-checked the box; it instantly went back to being 6 minutes behind.
Rebooting did correct the time, until a few days later when it happened again.  This has happened to me several times since, and it is always 6 minutes slow; never 5 minutes, never 7 minutes....
Has anyone else had issues with their clock after downloading 4.3?

  • Problems with time zones - my phone still switches to winter time

I know that lots of Russian Apple customers experienced inconvenience with the switch to winter time (1 hour back) on the last days of October, because since this year president Medvedev decided that Russia should not get involved into that process, but all of the devices that were synced to the automatic time made a switch back. The problem isn't solved if you turn off the automatic timing option, because sms messages still appear in 1 hour difference. So if you get a message on 10 pm it is displayed as you got it on 9 pm, which makes a big confuse. I suppose that someone already posted a message about this problem, but all I found is to fix the file that rules the time zones manually by downloading loads of software. I am just a user and would not manage to do it by my self. I just can't figure out why Apple Inc, being such a trusted and wise company, still didn't make a solution for this embarrassing problem and didn't change their MAIN CLOCKS so all of the devices can easily synchronize with it, or, make new software for iPhones and iPads.
So, what do we do now? Thank you!
    - Diana,
    Iphone 4
    Soft 4.3.5

I did look at the other threads, but none of them quite matched what I'm seeing. As I said it used to work just fine for me and I only noticed a problem recently. Looking back it seems that timestamps have been off since the begining of 2011, but things look ok before then.
Just for the info is this the first time you've imported in the same time zone you've shot in with the camera time set to another time zone? Just curious because Aperture does seem to take into account the machines time zone as well as the camera's and the shoot's location.
As I mentioned in the post, my regular way was to shoot with camera set to EDT/EST and do a time zone conversion. I didn't have problems before this year. I would expect the OS timezone to be where I was shooting, but not neccessarily.

  • Busy timer clock in middle of screen, common solutions not helping

I have a Blackberry Tour 9630 with the 5.0.0.591 OS, and I am consistently seeing a busy timer/clock in the middle of my screen. It's usually there for a 10-15 sec and seems as if the BB is "thinking". I have tried the common solutions such as closing apps with the close command, doing a battery pull, etc, and have continued to have this issue. Any suggestions?
If it helps, here are the third party apps I have installed. I've put an asterisk next to the ones that need to stay open (or at least I think they need to stay open?):
    - FourSquare   1.8.4
    - GoogleMaps   3.2.1
    - *Memory Booster   3.3
    - *MissingSync   2.0.4.301
    - OpenTable   1.0.2
    - *RingScheduler   1.0.30
    - *Skydeck   3.20
    - The Weather Channel   1.5
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Are you storing pictures ON the BlackBerry device or ON the Media Card?
Look at Options > File Free. What is the number stated there?
Likewise, you might not think you have a lot of apps running, but if you open the Application Switcher, what's there?
Is the browser on an active page?
Try opening the browser > options > Cache Operations > Clear Cache.
Now do a reboot: With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.
After the device is backup, give it five minutes to settle all the data activity down.
Now, see if you keep having the hourglass lag?

  • 2 Boot Camp Issues: Time clock and Display resolution

I have windows vista ultimate installed on a separate partition from OSX on my primary internal HDD. I have the newest release of bootcamp (1.4). I have two really weird issues. The first issue is when I restart after using windows and boot up into OSX, the time clock is always different (usually about 7 hours behind) and I have to go in and reset it each time. This normally wouldn't bug me except that I find myself using Windows (unfortunately) a lot for certain programs.
Another issue is that when I am in windows my primary display goes to 1900x1200 (the native resolution), but my other display that I have plugged in, a Samsung SyncMaster 245BW, only goes to 1024x768 (the highest setting i can choose), when the native resolution should also be 1900x1200, like it is in OSX. I've tried finding drivers and the samsung website says that the windows generic plug and play drivers should work fine. Is this a bootcamp/hardware issue or a samsung/driver issue?
    Message was edited by: bgarson

There is nothing that you can do about the clock issue other than what you are already doing. OS X stores the time in the hardware as UTC (GMT) time. Windows stores the time in the hardware as your local time. 7 hours slow at this time (daylight saving time) indicates that you are in the Pacific time zone.

  • Switch from daylight saving time to winter time

    Hello,
Can somebody describe why it is recommended (note 7417) to shut down the system for a little over two hours? Why is is not enough to deactivate the system 5 minutes before last daylight saving time hour has started and activate it when the winter time is started? Why should we wait until the first hour of winter time has ended?
Note 7417 gives the following example:
'If the hour from 2:00 to 3:00 occurs twice when you change to standard time, you must deactivate the system from 01:55:00 AM until 3:05 AM"
It is not clear, why the system cannot be activated at 2:05 AM after the time is switched...
    Thanks in advance,
    Yelena

    Hi Yelena,
Check the note 102088, it's clearly mentioned about 'double hour'  and why it need's to be shout down?.
    Regards,
    Hari.
    PS: Award points if helpful.

I just switched to Snow Leopard.
Before I switched I was able to make BOTH the date & time to show always in the toolbar.

  • Winter time issue w. iCal on web

Next week all my iCal entries are off by one hour when they are published on my .Me account (they are one hour late and do not match what I see on my laptop). We switch from summer to winter time this weekend in Sweden, so I am sure it has something to do with this, but I do not know how to correct it. The Cal is ok the week after next, so it is really odd!

Coupled to the use if iCal Publish (a small extra program). No longer a problem when I stopped using this extra program.

  • Datediff for Time Clock

Hello.  I am having a problem putting my mind around how this works.  I am working on creating a time clock. When a person clocks in each day an entry is inserted into the database.  As they continue to clock in or out that day entry in the database is updated to log the time/date stamp up to 6 entries.
    EmployeeID
    TimeClockID
    TimeEntryReg1
    TimeEntryVac
    TimeEntrySick
    TimeEntryHol
    TimeEntryOther
    TimeEntryOtherReason
    SPROverride
    SPROverrideDate
    TimeEntryReg2
    TimeEntryReg3
    TimeEntryReg4
    TimeEntryReg5
    TimeEntryReg6
    10

    NULL
    NULL
    NULL
    NULL
    NULL
    NULL
    NULL
    NULL
When I call the query I can get the cfoutput to loop through each record and display each of the log in/out's.  What my problem is is that I am not able to do a datediff to figure out how many hours/mins that employee has worked between the clock in and out. I get an error every time that says my date is invalid. I am guessing that it is because the variable is unable to determine which record is which since there are multiple records.  Could someone PLEASE help me get my head around how to display the time worked correctly?  Thanks.
    <table width="800">
    <cfoutput query="selectPerEmployeeTimeClockEntry">

       <td width="50" nowrap>
        #TimeFormat(TimeEntryReg6, "hh:mm:ss tt")#
       </td>

    Hello.
Thanks for your responses. I made the database modifications so that the clock in entries are seperate from the clock out entries as see below:
    Employee ID
    TimeClockID
    TimeEntryReg1IN
    TimeEntryReg2
    10
    1
    11/12/2009 17:51
    11/12/2009 19:51
    10
    2
    11/12/2009 20:17
    11/12/2009 22:17
However, I am still not able to get the data from the database to display in columns nor can I get the times to calculate in the number of hours/minutes there are between clocking in and out.
I appreciate any help you can provide.  Thanks.
