Wiping the configuration on multiple router models

I have a total of (8) eight switches/routers that I need to wipe. None are connected to a network, and I am missing the cables that came with the devices.
2 X Cisco 1700
1 X Cisco 2500
3 X Cisco 2600
1 X Cisco 2801
1 X Asanté IntraCore 3524
I'll have each router in front of me and I want to be able to plug each router into my laptop and log on. Does each model use a different type of cable configuration? Can I use a crossover from the laptop ethernet port into the router ethernet or FastEther port and then hook up a console cable from my serial port into the console port for all. I've seen crossover and rollover cables mentioned, so I'm confused.

Your cable reseller is blowing smoke.  The light blue cable has a DB9 on one end and an RJ-45 on the other end, right?  It will work for most any Cisco console port that is an RJ-45.  Now you might run across an old 7200 or something it might not work for but pretty much all of the modern Cisco switches and routers it will.  Now, it isn't technically the "rollover" cable because that cable actually has an RJ-45 on both ends.  You don't see too many of them anymore.  Those hearken from the day when you would get the rollover cable AND a DB9 to RJ-45 adapter in the box.  Sometimes you even got a DB25 to RJ-45 adapter in the box as well.  The light blue cable is really the same as the DB9 to RJ-45 adapter PLUS the rollover cable all combined into one unit.  All of those cables are designed to work with the console port.  For the routers you can use the rollover cable to connect from the AUX of the router port to the CON of any other Cisco device and use reverse telnet to get to it.  There is a little more to that configuration and you can easily find the details on the Internet.
The "crossover" cable is used to connect two Ethernet ports together.  Not many years ago it was required when connecting two switches together.  Now many of the switches can autosense MDI/MDI-X and switch their transmit and receive pins to compensate.  There are a few routers that can do it as well.  You can always try a straight-through Cat5 cable to see if it will work and, if it doesn't, switch to a "crossover".  A straight-through can always be used between a router and a switch or a PC and a switch.  However you MIGHT have to use a "crossover' if you are connecting switch to switch or router to PC.
Just about any of these cables can be made with some Cat5, plugs, and a crimper.  Cisco documents the pinouts.  In a nutshell a rollover cable is mapped as follows:
1 <> 8
2 <> 7
3 <> 6
4 <> 5
5 <> 4
6 <> 3
7 <> 2
8 <> 1
You can see why they call it a rollover because you "roll" the conductors over to the other side.  You can use Cat 5, 3, or even flat-satin for this since it is a serial cable.
The Ethernet "crossover" cable is called such because you are crossing over the transmit and receive pairs of the cable.  I don't have the pinout handy but look out on the Internet for a description of EIA/TIA 568A and 568B pinouts and you simply wire it as 568A on one side of the cable and 568B on the other side.  You must use Cat5 for this and, if doing GigE, should use Cat5E.

  • TIPS for UPGRADING SUCCESSFULLY the FIRMWARE of your ROUTER

WARNING, before doing the UPGRADE, it is highly recommended to back-up the configurations of your router so that no matter what happened, you router configuration wouldn't be messed up and you can just automatically restore it (the firmware version upgraded to it will just retain).
    Here's how to:
    >open http://192.168.1.1
    >username: blank, password: admin
    >go to ADMINISTRATION TAB
    >under the managerment subtab or config management subtab, you will see BACK-UP & RESTORE
let me give you a very useful tips guys,
when updating the firmware of the router and prevent the firmware from bricking or being corrupted and get a very successful results you will need to set a static IP adress ( so you won't lose connection to the router when updating the firmware) and force the card to 10 half duplex (so your router won't reply unless all the packets when updating firmware has already ben set thoroughly to the router) of your PC prior to updating the firmware. then after the firmware, push the reset of your router for 10 sec. then redo the set-up.
You will also need to shut down the computers that are running wirelessly and disable antiviruses and firewalls that are running currently...
    here are the instructions:
ASSIGN A STATIC IP ADRESS ON YOUR PC:
go to your control panel [select classic view (click the option on the left side right below control panel title)]. select network connections...
under LAN or high speed internet, you will see local area connection. right click on it then select properties
under local area connection properties, look for internet protocol TCP/IP. high light it and click properties.
once on the internet protocol TCP/IP properties, set it to use the following IP adress.
IP adress: 192.168.1.5 ( it must be same range of your default gateway: 192.168.x.x)
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (that is the default one. if not then enter the IP adress of your router, to check it, open command prompt, then type in "ipconfig" [no qoutes] the dafault gateway is equivalent to router's IP adress)
click ok and click the close button on the local area connectipn properties window (not the common "x" button when exiting out a window).
BRUTE FORCE THE CARD TO 10 Mbps half duplex mode
go to the same window (local area connection properties), once there, you will see a configure button. click it.
you will be lead to fast ethernet card 10/100 properties (depending on the type of etherenet card you have)
once there, click on the advance tab
under property, highlight link speed and duplex or media type or connection type (it varies, but these are one of those variations).
under value, select 10 Mbps/ Tx half mode/ duplex
click ok and click close on the local area connection window.
Then proceed with upgrading the firmware of your router. after updating the firmware of your router, reverse what you have done on your PC. by setting back the internet protocol TCP/IP to obtain an IP adress automatically and DNS server automatically (don't forget to click ok and close for the windows opened before opening a new one, okay?). then set back the speed and duplex mode back to auto-negotiation.
You should be able to get a successful results already after updating it. click on this link to reconfigure the router (but you must be online first to the modem since when the router is resetted, the configuration of your your router will be lost) http://www.linksysfix.com/check/HomePage/index.htm?CallerID=CC  to reconfigure the router

    Eh...
My routers GUI doesn't have the option to back up config so that doesn't help. Can't see why that would mater much anyway for home networking.
Also, I upgraded the firmware on my router multiple times and never had to force 10MB half duplex speeds. So, that doesn't help much either.

  • Best Practices for Accessing the Configuration data Modelled as XML File in

    Hi,
I refer the couple of blof posts/Forum threads on How to model and access the Configuration data as XML inside OSB.
One of the easiest and way is to
Re: OSB: What is best practice for reading configuration information
    Another could be
Uploading XML data as .xq file (Creating .xq file copy paste all the Configuration as XML )
I need expert answers for following.
1] I have .xsd file which is representing the Configuration data. Structure of XSD is
    <FrameworkConfig>
    <Config type="common" key="someKey">proprtyvalue</Config>
    <FrameworkConfig>
2] As my project will move from one env to another the property-value will change according to the Environment...
    For Dev:
    <FrameworkConfig>
    <Config type="common" key="someKey">proprtyvalue_Dev</Config>
    <FrameworkConfig>
    For Stage :
    <FrameworkConfig>
    <Config type="common" key="someKey">proprtyvalue_Stage</Config>
    <FrameworkConfig>
3] Let say I create the following Folder structure to store the Configuration file specific for dev/stage/prod instance
    OSB Project Folder
    |
    |---Dev
    |
    |--Dev_Config_file.xml
    |
    |---Stage
    |
    |--Stahe_Config_file.xml
    |
    |---Prod
    |
    |-Prod_Config_file.xml
4] I need a way to load these property file as xml element/variable inside OSb message flow.?? I can't use XPath function fn:doc("URL") coz I don't know exact path of XMl on deployed server.
5] Also I need to lookup/model the value which will specify the current server type(Dev/Stage/prod) on which OSB MF is running. Let say any construct which will act as a Global configuration and can be acccessible inside the OSb message flow. If I get the vaalue for the Global variable as Dev means I will load the xml config file under the Dev Directory @runtime containing key value pair for Dev environment.
6] This Re: OSB: What is best practice for reading configuration information
suggest the designing of the web application which will serve the xml file over the http protocol and getting the contents into variable (which in turn can be used in OSB message flow). Can we address this problem without creating the extra Project and adding the Dependencies? I read configuration file approach too..but the sample configuration file doesn't show entry of .xml file as resources
Hope I am clear...I really appreciate your comments and suggestion..

If you can enforce some sort of naming convention for the transport endpoint for this proxy service across the environments, where the environment name is part of the endpoint you may able to retrieve it from $inbound in the message pipeline.
eg. http://osb_host/service/prod/service1 ==> Prod and http://osb_host/service/prod/service2 ==> stage , then i think $inbound/ctx:transport/ctx:uri can give you /service/prod/service1 or /service/stage/service1 and applying appropriate xpath functions you will be able to extract the environment name.
Chk this link for details on $inbound/ctx:transport : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13159_01/osb/docs10gr3/userguide/context.html#wp1080822

Start by working throudh the Troubleshooting iOS and WiFi knowledge base article and see if that helps the situation.  When you get to shutting down the router, be sure to disconnect power as shutdown on some is really just standby mode.

  • Migrating the configuration 2821 router to 3925

    Hi ,
I need help am planning to migrate the configuration from 2821 isr to 3925 , i want to know is there any challenges are there while migrating.

    Hi Vasant,
I think there will not be any major challenges in migration just you need to consider the type of card and link you are using on the router. However use the below link that will give you the major techspec difference in ISRG1 & G2 routers.

  • About the SOAP routing model

    Hi all experts,
Now I am elaborating on the SOAP message details and have some confusions about the SOAP routing model. I have checked many online resources but unfortunately none of them seem to have a very detailed explanation on this.
My question is, how does a SOAP node, an[i] intermediary node, for example, report itself as a specific role? Also, many online resources say that a role is identified using a unique URI. However, it seems according to the SOAP 1.2 spec, there are only three roles defined, so why is there any need to uniquely define it?
By the way, could any one advice a place that I can find the offical W3C Schema for SOAP message 1.2? It is at least no easy to find on google.
    Thanks very much!
    Michael

Routing is specified using WS-Addressing now:
    http://www.w3.org/Submission/ws-addressing/
The SOAP 1.2 messaging framework is at:
    http://www.w3.org/TR/2003/REC-soap12-part1-20030624/
I've just been navigating to the w3.org site and using their links to navigate to these specs nowadays. I agree, all the links from searching Google are pretty confusing.

  • Home Networking and Multiple Router Set up Problem

    Router 1 (Main Access Point)

When I set up a wireless and wired bridge my Internet connection works perfectly and I can connect to the second SSID. If, however,  I close out of my browsing session and come back to my laptop several hours later and open a browser, I get the “webpage cannot be displayed” message.
I suspect this has to do with IP addresses changing from the main router after a certain amount of time.
    What could be causing this?
What can I do to stop this from happening?
    Thanks for any help

Running multiple router behind router can be tricky and may be the cause of your dropouts if you don't have it configured properly.
Cisco recommends using your best router as your primary router and DHCP server.
The best way to setup for home networks, in my opinion, is to use only one router, and put the other router(s) in bridge mode.  Also, make sure your modem is not a router too.

Hi, I have a wireless linksys router model WRT54G. what i want to do it´s configure a network in my home. I have 2 pc´s, a laptop an a desktop. what I should do to be able to share files, music, videos. between both computers? the laptop has Windows Vista, the desktop has Windows XP Professional. could you give me more details? step by step.   thank you really much.

its really simple to set up a network, first make sure that all computers are in the same workgroup by right clicking on my computer, then properities, then computer name.
there you can make the setting for the work group
do not use the default one, create your own, do this for each computer.
next thing is to choose any folder that you want to share and right click on it, select sharing, then check the two boxes to share this folder and the other one to allow others to make changes to this folder.
doing this bypasses the trouble od setting up passwords for right now.
you should not have the network up and running with folders being shared with all in that workgroup.
you may want to check the manual for vesta as it may do things a bit differant that xp
you could also run the create a network wizard in the xp system.

  • Router model wrt 160n v2 help!

i have a router wrt 160n v2 and i need a good amount of help ive tryed calling linksys support and they tell me the same thing everytime and its not the problem, i have a modem that uses a USB and before its worked just fine then about 3 weeks ago its just went out. So i went to go buy (the model above) to replace it and when i hooked it up it shows it connected in port on the little sign that looks like waves are being sent out is lighting up and the power is lighting up. but the one that looks like saturn WILL NOT LIGHT UP! best buy told me i need to have the thing configured and im thinking thats it but linksys is telling me i need to call my internet porvideder and get a new modem which is not the case so i think its just need to be configured can anyone help?

I think in this case you need to reset your router and reconfigure the settings on it. First Connect the Modem to Linksys router on Internet Port and your computer to Linksys router on Port No.1. Once the Physical Connection is done, Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • EA2700 Configuration with another router

    Hi,
I recently bought an EA2700 in hopes that it will make my connection faster, stronger signal and stable. However, this is not the case. The connections keeps dropping and the range is the same as my Verizon-FiOS router. Anyway, I'm hoping that a fix be distributed to address this issue. I can't return my router to the vendor anymore.
Now, since I have two routers, I want to be able to leverage EA2700's dual-band feature and the Guest-access feature but I can't make this as a main router since my FiOS router should still be able to supply IP addresses to my cable boxes, thus, I can't configure it as a Bridge. I'm thinking if I just split the IP distribution as follows:
    FiOS router: 192.168.1.2-110
    EA2700: 192.168.1.111-150
    Is that possible?
I'm not a network engineer so any suggestion/recommendation would be a great help!
    Thank you!

Hi there. Is it dropping on the wired or wireless internet connection? Have you tried to play around on the channels if it is a wireless intermittent connection issue? This particular router model has internet connection type option of Bridge mode but when the router is set to such it will act as a wireless access point or wireless bridge thus disabling  DHCP server as well as  Firewall, Access Restrictions, and Applications and Gaming.

  • Multiple routing tables and/or policy routing

    Hey all,
I'm trying to configure a Mac Mini (10.8) for multiple routing tables and policy routing.  This server runs Ostinato, a freeware traffic generator.  My purpose is to generate traffic on multiple VLANs towards different gateways and different destinations.  To that end, I have VLAN tagged the (only) Ethernet port and configured 5 VLANs on it.  The first one has the default route (I manage this Mac over this VLAN).  The other four have IP addresses in the test range I'm using.
The goal is to have traffic sourced from IP-address-X go out vlanX towards gateway-X.  It's counterpart on the far end runs Linux and I have configured it in this way:
ip route add default via <gateway-X> dev ethX table X
ip rule add from <network-X> table X priority X
Researching on OpenBSD forums (since it's the base of MacOS X), provided this:
    route -T X add 0.0.0.0/0 -iface <gateway-X>
echo pass in from <network-X> to 0.0.0.0/0 rtable X | pfctl -mf -
However, the Mountain Lion "route" command does not support the -T option, so that killed that idea.  Another forum suggested that this would have worked on 10.4:
ipfw add X fwd <gateway-X> ip from <IP-address-X> to any
I tried this on 10.8 though the man page says it's deprecated, and (surprise, surprise) it did not work.
Any ideas to get this working appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Aaron

Still doesn't have it in 10.9.4.
    irene:~ cschwartz$ sudo bash
    bash-3.2# route -T add
    route: illegal option -- T
usage: route [-dnqtv] command [[modifiers] args]
I'm guessing you want policy-based routing due to VLANs...? If you can get a USB-to-Ethernet adapter, then maybe you can work around this by using multiple physical links instead of VLAN tagging. But if you need source-based routing etc. then no.

  • Same measurement sequence Multiple UUTbatch model

I kind of have the idea of what i want.
I have a sequence that will do some measurements with the DMM for a some test points on a board. i want to test 4 boards.
i have made my routes on niSE to connect the dmm via a switch matrix to all of those points and i have the hardware connected to the matrix.
    My routes :
    UUT1_route
    UUT2_route
    UUT3_route
    UUT4_route
The 4 UUT will share the same Matrix and DMM. so i cant use parallel process right?
but i can use a Batch Model Serial right ? this will be easy because i will just need to make one program and that same sequence program will be use with each UUT just different switching configuration.
how do i tell each socket to use it own UUT route?
    i will appreciate your help.
    thanks.

I am gonna answer this my self. since yesterday i got my book out and also i opened some examples.
if you took the course  TestStand Development Course go to section 8 and also open the example Batch UUT.
Bascially change you process model to Batch.
take a look on the example at the step that says Set Chamber Temperature... that step is general for the HOLE BATCH ... all UUT will stop executing until that step is release. if you read on the colum settings it will say BATCH. this will be a common operation for the hole batch. to set that behavior go to step->properties->syncronization..there is a drop down menu with many options, you have to click one thread only and this will execute a general step for the entire batch. basically it will wait to the oven temperature to reach a level and then continue testing.
if you see the pulse test sequence. that test is enclosed between a Syncrhonization step. enclosing this part of the code on a synchronized step will allow the code to run exclusively for that UUT and the others UUT will wait until that part enclosed with the Syncrhornization finish to continue testing the batch. in other words if you share instruments like a dmm and a switch and you have common code that will repeat on every UUT you enclose it under syncronization step.
to know which test socket it is executing and with it switch your matrix to the desire position and choose the routes to use you need to put this variable on and if RunState.TestSockets.MyIndex and there you will know which UUT you are working on .
this is just a great part of test stand.

  • 881 - How to configure inter-VLAN routing

I hesitate to post here -- I know that I should know my job. But here goes...
Small business wants to use an ASA 5505 firewall on the edge connected to VDSL modem, and then an 881 to route internally (see attachment). The 881 has a downstream link to a 2960.
    Want the following "blocks":
    VLAN 33 - CLIENTS
    VLAN 55 - SERVERS
    VLAN 101 - CDLAB
The lab is for testing, and will be connected via Cisco 2500 series router. The server farm (Server 2008 domain +) will be connected via layer 2 switch over VLAN. A DMZ is anticipated after basic connectivity is established. Connectivity is already verified from a client connected to the INSIDE interface of the ASA going to the OUTSIDE and back.
Before I started I wiped the devices in order to start clean. Both the router and the switch are in vtp mode transparent.
To build a trunk link, I connected the 881 and the 2960 using a crossover cable from int fa0 to int fa0/8 respectively.
On both devices' interfaces I set switchport mode trunk.
I configured the 3 VLANs on the 881, assigned IP addresses to them, and used switchport trunk allowed vlan add 33,55,101 to assign them to the trunk but that doesn't appear in the sh run output under the interface.
I set both devices' to switchport nonegotiate (best practices?). Once again, on the 881 this command doesn't appear in the running config.
I configured the 3 VLANs on the 2960, then used the same switchport commands as above to assign them to the trunk.
    Here's the deal.
From a client connected to a VLAN 33 access port on the 2960, I can't ping, for example, the VLAN 55 IP address. I can ping the VLAN 33 IP address. I also can't ping the IP address of the interface on the far side of the router headed to the ASA (int fa4).
What am I doing wrong? I'll gladly post the running configs if anyone wants to see. I've spent most of the day on this racking my brain and literally scouring the Internet. I'd be very grateful for some assistance.
    Help!

    Thanks, Mike.
Yeah, I might not have been too clear. But on the router, each VLAN was created using the vlan 33 command (for example) and given a name. Then I went to int vlan 33 (for example) and used ip address 10.0.33.xx 255.255.255.0 for the address and subnet mask. Those have been in place since I started. And like I said, I can ping the SVI for VLAN 33, which is mapped to the client access port I'm on.
The problem is, I still can't ping inter-VLAN and I still can't ping the far side interface.
    Bummer...

  • ACE module rservers multiple routed hops away

Hi all, deploying a ACE module in a cat6k. Just want to figure out, can I add to a serverfarm, rservers which are multiple routed hops away from the ACE or the cat6k in which it is deployed. please look at the attached diagrams. I have my servers at two subnets, and I want to add all 5 servers to the same server farm and load balance between them
Is this possible, if any what are the caveats ?
    Thanks all

    Hi,
You can do this, but ypu have to use client-NAT to force the return traffic to pass back through the ACE. You also then need static routes in the ACE context to point at each server.
The following extract from a configuration shows the basic principle:
    rserver host master
    ip address 10.199.95.2
    inservice
    rserver host slave
    ip address 10.199.38.68
