  • SOLVED: W510 Wired Network Stops working

I had a problem with a W510 I ordered with Windows 7 32 bit. At random times, the exclamation point icon would appear over the network icon in the system tray, and the network adapter would no longer be recognized. I could use the built in Windows facilities to reset the adapter, but it would quickly fail again. The only cure was to restart the machine, which was annoying. Wireless networking was not affected - just the wired Ethernet connection.
I downloaded the latest drivers from the Lenovo site and that did not fix it. I have had numerous Thinkpads over the past 12 years and have NEVER had any sort of hardware fault before, so I doubted that it was a hardware fault. Therefore I wiped the machine clean and installed 64 Bit Windows 7 instead.
The first problem I had after installing Win7 x64 was that the internal USB controller was not recognized by Windows. Therefore, USB devices (i.e. my thumb drive with all the x64 Lenovo drivers on) were no longer recognized. Therefore, I burned the x64 drivers to a CD and used that instead.
All the devices including the USB controller then came to life, and it looks like the problem has been completely solved.
I post this, in case anybody else has such a problem.

I just started seeing this issue with my pen silo.  The Wacom tablet component has completely stopped working, and I'm seeing "USB device not recognized" every time I insert and draw out the pen.  My guess is that all the peripheral components in the tablet are connected to the motherboard via crappy silver trace ribbon cables, and they're susceptible to the tiniest amount of flex, heat, and disruption.
Since the USB device is, at least in my case, still operating well enough to report that it is having trouble, I'm guessing that the issue is transient, but that doesn't fix my problem - and probably won't fix yours.  I'd recommend getting a refund.
Here's how to see if the device is reporting a problem:
    1) Wait until you see the "USB device not recognized" message again.
    2) CTRL+X -> Device Manager
    3) Other Devices -> double-click "Unknown device"
    4) Go to "Details" tab
    5) Select "DevNode status" from the drop-down; the Value pane will have DN_HAS_PROBLEM on one of the lines.
    6) Select "Problem code" from the drop-down; the Value pane will likely show "0000002B", or Microsoft USB problem code 43 in decimal.

  • Wired network stopped working

    Hi all,
Since recently, and without any changes to network related config files, wired connections do not work any longer. Wireless connections still do.
I'm somehow suspecting this is DHCP related.
dhcpcd is not running as as systemd.service but started by NetworkManager. Upon activating wireled connection through gnome network settings I'm seeing
    # ps aux | grep dhcpcd

Thanks for the nice welcome and all the quick replies. I forgot to subscribe to the topic to answer sooner.
I can confirm that the network device is not renamed

    Things to try:
    1. Put IPv6 to "local link only" in network manager
    2. Stop NM and try to connect manually, using

    # dhcpcd -A

As neither solution worked, I'm going to try dhclient this evening.

    pls help

    Hi,
For this issue, please check with the manufacturer to know whether this speakers is compatible with Windows 8.1 RTM.
You may test this speaker on other computers, if this speaker can work fine on other computer with Windows 8.1, it appeared to be driver issue.
I suggest we open the device manager and update the driver for speaker to check the issue.

  • Wired network Late2009 not working

This one has me completely stumped.
I can connect the mini to my wireless network without issue. However when I plug into the wired network I recieve an out of range IP address (169.254.130.164).
    Equipmet:
All verified 100% functional cat6 wiring.
    DIR825 wireless router (DHCP enabled)
I have the MINI homerun directly into the DIR825
    Testing:
Plugged another laptop into the CAT6 line that the mini was trying to use and recieved proper addressing and network connectivity
On the DHCP table inside the DIR825 it shows the WIRED macmini's (mac address) as having an address of 192.168.0.57
I have 15 device's on the network all working no problem
WIFI on the macmini works flawlessly; albeit on limited bandwidth.

Ok sorry for the late reply on this.
So I tried the PRAM reset to no avail. I did it multiple times as suggested.
    So I:
downloaded 10.8 (from the App Store)
created a USB boot disk to install 10.8
formated the drive in disk utility
than proceeded to install 10.8I did not time machine the computer (I.E. reset any of my software or files, it is only running stock osx)
After installation was done I rebooted the machine and proceeded to PRAM reset once again.
After all of this I am still gett a ip address starting in the 169 range. If I unplug the ethernet line and plug directly into a MacBook pro the macbook will get a valid working IP address nearly instantly.
Is it possible the Mini has a bad NIC? is the NIC a daughterboard in this machine or is it part of the motherboard?

  • QuickTime RTSP works on AirPort but not Wired Networks

I have a 10.4 X-Serve in a remote data facility running the QuickTime Streaming Server.
I also have a C2D MacBook Pro 17" running Leopard with both QT Pro and the QT Broadcaster on it.
When using AirPort to connect to the internet, the Broadcaster does broadcast and QT will play the stream from the server...
However, when I try the same thing through a wired network, which is in parallel with the wireless access point, the broadcaster fails to broadcast and QT won't play either the live stream or the default stream from the server (the one that plays when there isn't a live feed)
It works on Windows, Wired or Wireless, and works on Wireless Macs, but will not work on Wired Macs running Leopard...
    Any ideas/fixes?

    Hi Mark.
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations (Parallels in particular, if you have that installed) and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
You may set up different network “locations” to make it easier to switch between network settings if necessary:
Using network locations in Mac OS X

Everyone reading your posts here is just another MacBook Pro user. We're all volunteers, not Apple employees. No one here can speak for Apple.
In my personal opinion, buying Apple products in a country where Apple has no stores and no corporate presence is a risk that the buyer takes knowingly. I don't think it's a wise risk, and I don't recommend that anyone take it. A small percentage of the products sold anywhere are going to have problems, and it makes more sense to buy an inferior product that can at least be serviced locally than to buy a superior product that may have to be sent thousands of miles for repair if anything ever goes wrong with it.

  • Airport Extreme wired network can't assign IP address, but wireless works

    *Problem details:*
We have three computers intermittently on, wired into the ethernet LAN managed by the Airport Extreme.
We have a few more computers that connect to the wireless network managed by the same Airport Extreme.
As far as I know, no fancy settings hijinks have been attempted. I manage the router, and I only plugged the Airport into the cable modem and connected all the wires to the computers. The WiFi setup went a similar way -- I just turned it on and it sorted itself out. This was eight months ago, mind you -- everything has been going quite well up until this weekend.
But! I got home from a trip this weekend to discover that all the machines that connected over the wired network could no longer get a connection to the internet. Any machine connected over the wireless network, however, was working just fine. Indeed, my macbook pros couldn't even see the Airport Extreme when I turned off their WiFi, connected them over Ethernet and opened the Airport Extreme configuration app!
The wired machines complain that they have a self-assigned IP address. Sometimes, after resetting everything, they look like everything's fine for a moment. Like I said, ordinarily my macbook pro does not even recognize the router over the wired network. However, after reverting to factory defaults and restarting the Airport, the laptop did see it (until a few minutes went by and it realized something was wrong).
I figured that renewing my DHCP lease would fix this problem, but it did not. Nor did turning off Passive FTP Mode (PASV) under Proxies in the Network configuration pane.
I have tried resetting the router to factory defaults, power cycling the modem and router in various configurations, etc. but nothing has worked. In addition, I have verified that connecting any machine to the ethernet directly from the modem will work, so the problem is definitely being introduced by the Airport Extreme.
So I guess my question is: what do I have to poke to return everything to normal? I'd like working wired and wireless networks again.
    *Some last few details:*
The Airport is running 7.5.2, but downgrading to 7.4.2 produced no tangible difference.
I have an Ubee D3.0 modem. All lights are green and blinky except the DS light, which is solid amber (and it is green when the modem is wired directly to one of my computers -- it's only amber when connected to the Airport).
Some of the machines that can't connect to the wired network are PCs, so it's not just an OSX thing.
My roommate's XBOX 360 can connect to the internet over the wired port. It doesn't have WiFi, so I'm pretty sure there's no way it could be fooling me.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can muster.
    EDIT FOR APOLOGIES:
I didn't realize I was posting this in the "Airport for Windows" section. While a Windows computer's connection is a concern, I would much rather get my Macs online and deal with that first. I can't figure out how to move the message myself.

    *An update:*
Several days later, this issue seems to have fixed itself. I suspect there may have been Funny Business on my ISP's end (but then again, it's an ISP).

  • [SOLVED] Network won't work after install

    Hi
I've installed arch on a lot of different computers without any trouble. But now I'm trying to install it on a intel mini-ITX board with an atom processor and integrated network. When setting up the network during the install it downloads and installs the packages perfectly fine, but when the installation is finished and I reboot into my new system the network wont work.
If I try to ping my gateway at 192.168.1.1 it just says that the network is unreachable.
The ifconfig shows the following for eth0:
    Link encap:Ethernet  HWAddr 00:27:0E:05:AC:47
    BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
    RX packets:0 errors:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:0 errors:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    collisions:0 TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
    Interrupt:28 Base address:0xe000
Any ideas what could be wrong?
    Thanks

Sorry I've been away for a couple of days, but it's solved now it was something in the hosts file which weren't correct.
    Thanks for the reply though!

I read a way on another forum to fix this problem. Right click on the setup.exe and select "Run as administrator" this should solve your problem.
