Wireless Aluminum keyboard right half keys not working

THe right half, maybe the right third, keyboard no longer works.  I've tried pairing it with different computers and I'm not able to as the return key doesn't work.  I tried looking up my warranty online but the serial number keeps coming back as invalid.  Is there possibly a way to do a hard reset on the keyboard to see if that would do the trick?

Hello:
Apple does not maintain a database of peripheral devices.  The keyboard is under warranty for one year.  Either take it to an Apple store or call Applecare (if the device is less than a year old).

  • Wired Keyboard: Right Arrow Key Not Working Properly

The right arrow key on my new wired keyboard doesn't work on the first press. After the initial press it works, and if I'm only using the arrow keys themselves it works fine too. But otherwise it takes two presses to move the cursor initially.

I found the problem, at least for my keyboard. Open Keyboard Viewer from the International menu, the one that displays a flag.
Tap the right arrow key lightly. Nothing happens on the viewer. Tap any other key lightly. They display just fine. Now, give the right arrow key a firmer tap. You should see that it registers every time as long as you tap it a little harder than the other keys.
So, at least in my case, it is keyboard specific. That probably explains why some have the problem and other's don't. I will exchange this keyboard for another one until I finally get one that works. Thank God for "Keyboard Viewer" or I never would have nailed this down.
Poor quality control at play here me thinks.

  • Wired keyboard-number pad&right arrow keys not working-serial # help!

    Hello to whomever reads/replies -
I have a wired keyboard for my iMac(it's not the aluminum imac, but the version before it with the keyboard and mouse that came with it). I got this keyboard June 2007 after the original keyboard sent to me had problems with it with some keys not working properly. And now about a week ago my right arrow key and the zero, decimal point, one, two, three and enter button on the keypad stopped working out of the blue. One night they worked and the next they didn't with nothing being done different, nor was the keyboard stored differently.
I've cleaned the keyboard inside and out twice and tried pushing the little squishy thing under the keys when you pop them off and there's no response with those being pushed either so something's got to be wrong with the keyboard itself.
Also, when I go online to look up the warrenty on this keyboard, #1 i can't find where it tells me where the serial number on the **** WIRED keyboard is, just gives me where i can find it on the WIRELESS keyboards. Ugh. So I looked under my keyboard and punched in the numbers and letters that i found on a little silver plate just below where the wire and USB ports are in the top of the keyboard and I get an 'invalid serial number' error message.
So.. could anyone help me with these problems? I'd really rather not call tech support since it took me over two hours to explain to the man that I spoke with last year about my other keyboard and I just don't have the time! Thanks in advance!

    Hello sharon:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Run, don't walk to the phone. Call Applecare and indicate you have a warranty problem. The KB is (or will be shortly) out of warranty. It may take you some time, but it may save you some money in the long run.
Incidentally, it appears to me that your KB is, indeed, broken.

  • Apple aluminum keyboard w/o keypad not working with Mac Mini

I'm in the process of reconfiguring our old Mac Mini to run some of our old games that no longer run on the newer Macs. We had a spare Apple aluminum keyboard (without the numeric keypad) which I thought I'd use with the Mini. The alphanumeric keys work fine, but the function keys don't seem to. (In particular, I can't get the volume keys to work.)
I've checked my keyboard settings in System Preferences. Software Update shows everything up-to-date.
The aluminum keyboard WITH the numeric keypad works fine with the Mini. Also the keyboard without the keypad works properly with my Intel iMac.
Does anyone know what's going on?

    Hi,
am I right in assuming that you are talking about the Wireless Aluminum Apple keyboard ?
If so, the 2009 version of it requires OSx Leopard 10.5.8 to work properly.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1809
The 2007 version of that keyboard requires at least OSX Tiger 10.4.10 plus this keyboard software update http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2394
Maybe downloading and apllying the update can help.
    Regards

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard - Shift + 'r' key not working. It doesn't capitalise the letter. Can someone help please. Thank you.

    Hi all,
I am having some problem with the Apple Wireless Keyboard. It has not problem connecting to both my iPad mini / iPhone 4S.
The problem comes when I start to type with it. All the keys are functioning will, except when I am trying to capitalise the letter 'r'.
I tried using Shift + r. It doesn't work, regardless whether I use the left or right Shift key.
Any someone help please. Thank you.

If your Macbook is less than a year old, it is under warranty. A repair of of a problem of this kind would be free. So, if you have a warranty, have the problem fixed by Apple.
If your Macbook is more than one year old, please tell us what operating system you are running, and any other information that would help understand what is going on.
If you do get the keyboard to work for a short time, long enough to post back, please unlock the "caps lock" button.

  • Aluminum keyboard eject button does not work on Windows XP

I'm wondering if anyone else has the same issue:
the eject disk button on my new aluminum keyboard does not work in Windows XP (Boot Camp).
As I have a Mac Pro, there is no way of manually opening and closing the tray-loading Superdrive.
I can open the drive if I right-click "My Computer>DVD drive>Eject" but there is no way of closing it back. I am obviously not a Windows XP expert, are there ways of mapping the eject function to any key?

Actually, how does Software Update figure out what apps you have available for update?
I always thought that Software Update looks at your /Library/Receipts to check what Apple pkgs you have for update, so I assumed that any Apple-related Pkg would be updated. I may be totally wrong on this, correct me if that is so...but thanks for the info.

  • Right shift key not working with middle row of letters

The right shift key on my Macbook Pro does not work with the middle row of letters. It works with all other letters and numbers, just not A-L. Nothing out of the ordinary happened, it just stopped capitalizing

Try resetting your SMC and PRAM.
Resetting the System Management Controller >>
If that does not work, test it using an external keyboard.

  • Keyboard letter/number keys not working; Function keys OK

The function keys on my Bluetooth AND USB keyboard work, but none of the letters or numbers work, so I can't log-in in the appropriate field. I can move the icon with the mouse, (Bluetooth or USB) I've tried 2 keyboards, one USB the other Bluetooth, but I can't get past the log-in screen cos the letters & numbers don't respond. I can adjust the brightness using F1 & F2, and I can adjust the volume with F11 & F12.
Luckily I have this MacBook Air!
It started off as a hardware issue where I couldn't even start up. Also I can't get a hardware test to run to completion (you know, switch on whilst pressing D). Strange that the D key works for this! Also it seems Option/Command/R/P sometimes works for a reset paramter RAM (PRAM); (sounds like a baby should be in there! ;-)). So the R & P work at Startup; therefore plus D key, but beyond, nothing. My log-in includes lower case r or d.
Beyond that letters/numbers do not work.
I have since tried a Safe Boot where you press the Shift key as soon as the start-up sound is heard. And since then I've not even got to the log-in screen! What's going on? It's like there's a 2013 phenomenon.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Jonathan

Do 2-3 SMC resets, doing just one does not always work. If the resets fail then try another keyboard and if those keys work then you know the original keyboard needs to be replaced. Follow the directions in:

    Hi...
Pull the battery now and place the phone in a bag of rice to dry it out...
Here is another link on wet blackberries...
If the phone is already dried out, you can send the phone out and have it repaired at the component level.
There are several services that can do this. One is the bbrepairshop in Houston.

  • Liquid spill on keyboard. Certain keys not working. Any inexpensive repair? re

Water spill on the keyboard of my Mac Book Air. Now certain keys not functioning. A Mac friend suggested submerging in rice upside down to dry out. Didn't work. Warranty expired. Help!

Yes, the "magic rice trick" doesnt work.
    inexpensive repair? No.
Liquid spills, why your MacBook chassis is a one-way valve for spills
After a substantial spill many people will turn their notebook upside down and shake it, not only does this not work, but it spreads liquid havoc throughout your machine and makes things often as bad as possible.
The keyboard itself acts like a one way valve in the case of a substantial liquid spill. While liquid pours into the bottom chassis easy, it does not come out easily at all, and in the case of any spill, most of it will not come out by turning it upside down. Disconnect all power and contact Apple for diagnostics and repair.
Do not attempt to, after a spill, ‘dry out your MacBook’ and test it
After a spill most people invariably try to “dry out” their notebook by various methods, including hair dryers and otherwise. This both does not work, and after a substantial spill of any magnitude, even if the liquid was water, residue is left behind.
There are additionally many very tight places inside your notebook where liquids will linger for a very long time, and cause corrosion or worse.
Immediately unplug your notebook and contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and parts replacement.
In the case of very minor spills people will “dry out” their notebook and feel success that their notebook is working ok, however invariably in nearly all instances after 4-14 days an error / fault pops up and is usually followed by more.
In case of a spill, damage estimates are impossible,.....anything can be fixed, without question.......the question is cost.
contact Apple for in shop diagnostics and cost estimation ....possible parts replacement.

  • Left and right Arrow keys Not working now

My left and right arrow keys are not working properly now.
For example, when typing, left arrow does not produce the desired action (move cursor one spot to the left), and right arrow does not produce the desired action (move cursor one spot to the right). Also, control + left no longer activates spaces, and control + right no longer activates spaces.
Interestingly, in investigating the problem, I noticed that my shortcut keys for activating spaces and for activating expose had been changed (software update?). Before, I had set F5 (without pressing fn) for expose and had set F6 (without pressing fn) for spaces. Now, I noticed spaces was set back to the default of F8 (requiring fn).
The issue persists after shut down, and even when logged on to other users, e.g. Guest.
All other keys seem to be working fine, including the up and down arrows.
It is not hardware because fn + left + right produces the "[" character on the screen.
    Any ideas?

You might want to post in the MacBook forums as this seems to be a hardware issue and those gurus hang out there. http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=248

  • CS4 Reset View Keyboard Shortcut (ESC key) Not Working

Thanks in advance to anyone who can solve this:
Every keyboard shortcut in Photoshop CS4 works fine for me except one: the keyboard shortcut to reset view after using view rotation (the ESC key). Oddly, the keyboard shortcut does work in CS5 (I installed the demo). I've checked to ensure my keyboard is set to US English, which it is. I've tried resetting the Photoshop settings, and even reinstalling. Nothing. This particular keyboard shortcut doesn't seem to be one that can be changed through the keyboard shortcuts menu, and I have never customized the keyboard shortcuts anyway.
Some more information about my setup -- I'm using an Intuos 4 tablet, and do use the wheel to rotate the view. However, the keyboard shortcut doesn't work when I use the tool with my mouse or the wheel on my tablet, so it seems unlikely this is the issue. Regarding my hardware acceleration, I have a current gen nVidia card with plenty of horsepower, and all other OpenGL enhancements work fine.
    Thanks,
    Adam

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard - Volume & Brightness keys not working Windows 7

Finally got my wireless keyboard working within Windows 7 but the volume / Eject / Brightness keys all do nothing - all other keys appear fine.
I have reinstalled the bootcamp drivers for the 2nd time but still nothing. I had this all working previously but have factory restored my iMac and cant remember how I originally did this..
    Any ideas?

Maybe you could update the Boot Camp drivers. That happened to my internal keyboard, and updated drivers some times fixed it. Other times it fixed itself after a few restarts.
