Wireless disconnect

My Powerbook is not picking up the wireless signal from my Netgear router. I've tried rebooting my computer, the router, my cable modem etc., but I can't connect. If I connect the Ethernet cable directly into the Powerbook, it works fine.
This happened a few months ago, and then the problem disappeared. I don't know if this is a related issue, but the bootup of the computer has become very slow.
Suggestions?
TIA

Howard,
You need to determine if the problem is with your airport card or the router's wireless signal. So take the powerbook to a hot spot and see if it works there.

  • Why is my wireless disconnecting frequently when using Safari but not Firefox.

Ever since upgrading to the latest Apple Software on my iMac, I have been experiencing wireless disconnection but just on Safari. Also HTML images in emails are not loading. Firefox works fine.

Hi Sebaz, first try repairing permissions. Go to Applications-->Utilities-->select Disk Utility. Select your drive then select the First Aid button then  at the bottom right click Verify Disk and after it verifies your drive click on Verify Disk Permissions on the left. If there any errors click on Repair Disk Permission. Reboot your machine and test your Safari to see if the issue comes back.

  • WRT54G V8.2 Wireless disconnecting

Hello, I have recently updated my firmware for my router and ever since (might be a coincidence or not) my wireless will disconnect and my router's page is also unaccessable at that point. I can still see my wireless network and when I attempt to connect it just stays on connecting for a long time.
I have another computer connected by wire and this computer never loses connection. When my wireless stops working that wired computer can no longer access the router home page either.
The whole problem is quickly fixed by unplugging my router (power cord) and replugging. At that point everything returns to normal for a while (6-7 hours possibly more or less). It starts all over by my wireless disconnecting.
    Securities I have setup:
My laptop is quite old so the only wireless protection I can offer is WEP128 (Which is enabled)
I also have MAC filters on the wireless only enabling computers with a MAC address in the list to connect to the router.
Please help not sure what the problem is and it is getting a little annoying.
    Thanks

You need to hard reset your router for 1 minute...
Press and hold the reset button for 1 minute...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 1 minute and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...Also do the Advance Wireless Settings...
On the router set-up click on Wireless tab and change the channel to 11 and save the settings...
Click on the subtab "Advanced Wireless settings"
Change the Beacon Interval to 75...
Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304...
Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 and click on "Save Settings"...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...If you still face the same problem you should get your router replaced...

  • Tx1000, when wireless disconnects, have to restart computer

I have an HP pavillion tx1000 (Windows Vista) that I bought in Dec 07.  Every time the wireless disconnects, I have to restart my computer to get it to resconnect to my wireless again. It will disconnect from my wireless whether I'm using my computer or not.  I know it is not a problem with my wireless, since I do not have problems with  anything else connected to my wireless.  I have changed the wireless client. updated the driver and tried disable and enable the wireless, yet nothing works except restarting the computer.  The computer does tend to get hot, but I have it on a laptop fan and the wireless disconnects regardless of how long my computer has been on.

i have exact same problem with my tx1000... could you please let me know if you resolved this issue?

  • E3200 - Wireless disconnects and slow speed

I bought the E3200 in order to replace my "old" and "outdated" networking equipment, which happens to consist of a Linksys WAP54g access point, connected to a Netgear RT311 router. That old setup has worked reliably for years, and with decent speed. However, I have noticed my wireless connections dropping off every now and then, to the tune of a few times a week, and thought that it might be time to get new N-based equipment.
The E3200 arrived last night, so I installed it right away. Installation was actually a breeze! But, that is the ONLY reason I even gave this unit more than the minimum of one star. I was able to get this router up and running, and connected to my cable modem, in no time. And then, connecting all of our wireless devices to it was pretty quick too. Thus ends the good part of this review...
I worked from home today, as I do fairly regularly, and NEVER in all of my days of doing so have I had so many wireless disconnects! My work laptop is a year-old Lenovo W500 running Win7 Enterprise 64-bit, souped up with lots of memory and hard drive space. Like I said, only recently had I noticed any sort of drop-offs when talking to my 802.11g AP. Well, it seemed like every ten minutes my laptop would get disconnected today talking to the new 802.11n AP/Router. Isn't N-based equipment, and this E3200 in particular, supposed to be really fast and reliable? This one certainly isn't! Oh, I've only complained about the reliability part so far... Trust me, the SPEED is terrible too! While my laptop's wireless connection in Windows was telling me that I was connected at between 117 and 130Mbps pretty regularly, there is no way that can be true! I am a programmer, so I am connected to the office over VPN every day, and we use Microsoft's TFS for our source code. Over my G connection, the code came over pretty quickly. Over the N connection today, it was DOG slow! I mean REALLY bad! Took forever to get my source code! And, web pages seemed to load really slow all day! Just loading this page to write this review seemed to take a lifetime!
I really think this thing only deserves one star, and that being for the ease of the setup. But, since one is the minimum, I gave it two. As to the value for the money? Not there. This unit isn't cheap. I paid a little more to get a better quality product, but I am left disappointed.
My intent here is not to slam the Linksys product really. I have been using a Linksys wireless-g access point for years, and I love it! However, I want to (a) warn other of my experience, and (b) see if anybody has any ideas as to how this can be fixed, perhaps. Maybe the out-of-the-box configuration always behave this way, and it just needs some tweaking??? I hope so, but I doubt it. And if this is not merely a matter of a little tweaking, I intend to return this router, and reconnect my old, faithful equipment.
    -- UPDATE --
I am sitting within a few inches of this lousy router with my laptop, trying to tweak its settings via the web interface. The wireless connection is still really slow, and keeps timing out. I could probably plug in to the GB port, but the purpose of this exercise was to see if the connection problems were due to distance and walls. Apparently, they were not. Sigh...

Although I am not the aforementioned Scott, my experience with the E3200 has been very similar.  What lead me to do something about it and find this thread was the constant wireless dropping.  Working from home and having the connection come and go multiple times a day will motivate a person.
This started happening after having the E3200 for 4 months.  I did the firmware upgrade, but not the reset/reconfigure, and things cleared up for another 3 months.  Then shortly after having the new Dish Network Hopper/Joey system installed, the problem came back.  Not sure if it had anything to do with it but that was the only thing that changed in my environment.
The Hopper/Joey is Ethernet wired to the E3200 via a MoCA bridge and does add additional network traffic.  Also there is a ZigBee wireless remote which may or may not be causing additional interference.
Regardless, I did the recommended 30 second reset and reconfigure including picking channels for both wireless types.  Everything is back up and running good so far.  Fingers crossed.

  • Wireless disconnection

My Macbook's wireless connection will stop working after some hours of non-interactive use. For instance, last night I was playing an audio book as I went to sleep and when I woke up it was still playing but my wireless connection was gone. I had to manually re-attach to my wireless network.
One interesting entry in the system.log:
Jul 22 05:55:12 Eloise kernel[0]: ATHR: beacon miss causing loss of connection
I have a Linksys 802.11g wireless router. I don't remember seeing this problem with my Powerbook G4. The Macbook/Linksys combo is screaming fast most of the time, and my Macbook seems to have terrific wireless reception (it shows many more wireless networks than the Powerbook or even my wife's iBook can see).
    Any ideas?
Macbook Mac OS X (10.4.7) 1 GB RAM, 80 GB HD, Superdrive

    Hi Batmensch -
If you can get access to your router's config, try this - set the channel to anything other than the default.
I had the same problem, and it seemed to spread to my wife's PC on the same LAN. PC & Mac with the same problem - sounded fishy!
There are four wireless networks that I can detect from my desk, so I wondered if they were somehow interfering. So I reset the channel on my router from the default 11 to 7, and Hey Presto! no more wireless disconnection.

  • Wireless Disconnection issue with WRT160N v3

    Hi Everyone,
I'm having trouble with my new WRT160N v3 router.
It's currently updated with firmware Ver.3.0.02 Build 3.
    My setup is as follows:
    Wired connection: 2-Desktop Computers & 1-Xbox 360.
    Wireless connection: 1-Laptop, 1-Xbox 360, 1-Platstation 3, 1-PSP & 1-Wii.
The issue is that EVERYTHING connected wirelessly disconnects after a short period of time in use, whether I'm doing work on my laptop or gaming (and all my consoles are connected wirelessly) - everything disconnects.
Another thing is that there always seems to be a loss in reception and the router is just in the other room (approx. 10 meters away).
I sat and I configured the router's wireless settings over and over again with all kinds of settings, but it just doesn't seem to help.
What is going on with this router? it's very problematic because a lot of people are complaing about the same issue.
I especially went out to buy a new router and ended up buying this sad router that really gets a person upset.
It's really frustrating being in the middle of a multiplayer game when you get disconnect because of a router that can't even keep it's wireless connectivity up, and this issue happens on every single piece of hardware I have that connects wirelessly.
Has anybody got any suggestions regarding this issue or some or other wat to solve it?
    Thanks for all the help!

Try to readjust the Wireless settings on the router...
Open the linksys setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.Reduce the MTU size to 1365 and click on save settings. Now,Click on Wireless tab and change the Channel Width to 20GHz only and Channel to 11.Click on subtab Advanced Wireless Settings...Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,RTS Threshold to 2307 >>Click on Save Settings.

  • SL440 Over Heat and Wireless disconnect

Second one is wireless Lan Disconnect  after few hours later the wireless disconnect automatically and it also doesn't show any wifi signal in his range. But after restarting the wireless lan work again. After that it goes to disconnect again after few hours.

  • Wireless disconnecting constantly

    Hi everyone,
I had BT infinity installed over a month ago. In that time the wireless has been disconnecting nearly everyday. It has got to the point where I have been power cycling my hub (home hub 3) a few times a day on occasion.
I couldn't connect at all last night, I testing using an eternet cable and had a connection but the wireless still wouldn't connect. I have tried various settings - changing channels etc based on inssider but to no avail.
Has anyone got any ideas, or could it be down to a duff home hub? I think the longest period i've had a solid wirless connection is maybe 3 days.
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Sam

If you are staying connected by Ethernet when the wireless disconnects it is more than likely a faulty hub. One thing to try if you haven't already and that is to carry out a factory reset of the homehub by pressing a pin into the recess button on the rear for about 20 seconds. This can often sort out configuration problems with the hub.

  • Ideapad K1 Wireless Disconnects

I have experienced frequent wireless disconnects with my new K1.  I have several other wireless devices and none experience these inconsistencies.  The wireless signal may suddenly disconnect and then reconnect several times while the K1 is stationary. Moving the tablet closer to the router helps but even 2 feet away, the signal is not 100%. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check the wifi settings, you can turn off the wifi sleep option.

  • Hp 5310 to mac wireless disconnection using aol huawei echolife hg532 router

I have just bought the HP Photosmart 5510 B111a as my original HP printer was not compatible with the LION 10.7.2 Mac OS
The problem im having is that im unable to maintain a connection to my new printer. I have installed the full and latest Software and drivers from HP, I have up-dated my MAC from Apple site but so everything is as it should be.
I spoke to HP on the phone and was advised to use the diagnostic tool but this is only for windows OS so this wouldn't work.
So i am begging for a solution -
Everytime i go through the set up procedure it works wirelessly  for the maximum of one print then the next time i try to print (1 MINUTE LATER) It says unable to find printer. I have checked the settings on the printer and it says connected with the correct network name as does the Mac. Im using an AOL Router HUAWEI Echolife HG532.
It works fine if connected with the USB cable
If i swap the router to a Belkin router it works fine wirelessly / eprint etc but other wireless devices don't.
I really want to sort out the Echolife issue. AOL Have said the issue is with the printer but I'm far from convinced as the Belkin works.
I hope someone can help - Please - Neil

    Hi There,
I have just read another forum and some one has had the same problems as me, the following is where i am athe the minute and what i type in response to him - still not sure though .....
    HI John,
New to the conversation but im having exactly the same problems you have been encountering ! Im ready to through my Mac, router and printer out of the window, thats if the wife doesnt do it for me as shes sick of me going on about it.
Anyway, I have just bought the printer following a OS Upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion and this is where i thought the problems started. I have been sent an new router from AOL following the usual frustrating repetable conversations and downloaded the HP 10.72 software but nearly every time i get to the disconnect the USB I get the same fault as you - unable to detect printer. If i go into my router 192.168.1.1. settings and change the channel then open  the HP utility page it will open ok and show my supply staus etc but if you close it then re-open, it is unable to find the printer
Everything else seems to work fine, like the ePrint, the printer connects to the internet proving the printer is connected to my network but thats it......!!!!
Basically what im asking is, can you tell me what and where from did you download the fixes Apple helped you with...
Please help or should i also ring Apple ?
    Best regards
    Neil

  • Mighty Mouse Wireless disconnect

Hi, i've a Mac Mini Intel with a Mighty Mouse Wireless.
After the lastest OSX upgrade, 10.4.8, i notify that my mouse randomly disconnect for a while (2/3 sec), than reconnect.
I decided to try to reinstall Osx from my dvd, and i saw that using mouse without drivers and OSX 10.4.5 there are no disconnection problem.
I tried with bootcamp in windows too and there is no problem.
Then i upgraded my system to 10.4.8 and installed mouse drivers, after this the mouse started to disconnect randomly.

However when I disconnect the external display and start using the laptop like normal...
Do you shut down or at least put the Mac to sleep before unplugging the display? All of Apple's Knowledge Base articles include closing the MacBook (or PowerBook or MacBook Pro) to put it to sleep before plugging or un-plugging an external display.

  • RDP + Wireless disconnect - 802.1x wireless profile

We have an enterprise access point that uses 802.1x domain user authentication so when the user logs into their domain laptop it automatically authenticates and connects using their AD credentials. It's worked great for years.
However we recently noticed (and apparently its done this forever my coworkers tell me) if you Remote Desktop into a any laptop that is on this 802.1x access point the wireless connection disconnects. It does this even if you are using the same username/pw
to connect with Remote Desktop. If you log back in on that laptop the wireless instantly reconnects.
We have a GPO that pushes to these laptops and sets this access point/SSID as the default. I can't see anything obvious that would disconnect this wireless profile if RDP tries to connect...
Anyone else seen this? This is across all windows domain wireless systems, all hardware types.

    Hi,
    Please follow the steps bellow:
    1. Check if you have any third-party network card tool , if so, please choose to let Windows manage your network connections, then check if issue would be solved.
    2. If the solutions mentioned above don’t work, please delete your wireless profile and create it again.
Please refer to the following thread about deleting wireless profile.
