Wireless Internet Issues with WRT54G.

I have the router and main computer set-up fine. Internet works great on the main computer which is wired to the router.  My xbox 360 goes online and works fine as well.  Now the computer upstairs has no problem connecting to the network shows 100% signal strength and gets an IP address.  It just won't connect to the internet.  I have worked on computers for a while and I am just baffled at this point.  I've read through a bunch of similar issues on here and still don't have a fix on what's wrong.  Help is greatly appreciated and my head would feel so much better when i get this figured out.

Change the wireless network name & wireless security .... on router ...
On wireless computer ... try to connect with new network ....
If it shows connected .... check the Ip address on wireless network connection ....
Disable all firewall on the computer ..........
Try to ping 192.168.1.1 .... if getting reply try going online .....

  • Wireless Issues with WRT54G V8

    For about a month now I have been having issues with staying connected wirelessly. I have updated the firmware, changed the wireless channels and such. Im not sure what the problem is. It normaly happends during the evening/night hours, but thats when Im online most of the time. My WRT54G V2.2 didnt have this problem, thats the reason why I bought the same model when the old ones WAN port died. I have my compter set to use Static IP addresses, 128Bit web encription, mac address filtering. If any one has an suggestions I would be happy to hear them. I have even considered building a directional antenna for my wireless adapter, which is a WMP54G v4.

    On the web interface of the router change the beacon interval to 50 change Rts to 2304 and fragmentation threshold to 2304.

  • I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my MacBook. Constantly dropping internet connection or message "error connecting to the network" comes up. No wireless connectivity issues with windows 7 laptop or iphone.

    I have a MacBook with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The last few weeks it has been constantly dropping internet connection, and one of these messages appear on the page: "Safari cannot open this page because the server where this page is located isn't responding" or "Safari cannot open this page because you are not connected to the internet" comes up. I will check Wifi and I am connected. No wifi connectivity issues with iphone or windows 7 laptop, this doesn't happen with either of those devices. I have unplugged and reset router, cleared cache, still happening. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • WVC200 v1.2 - Successful Wireless & DynDNS Setup with WRT54G v.6 Router

    I would just like to report that after hours of tinkering, I managed to configure the camera to run wireless as well as link up with the dynDNS service. I thought I would post the method which worked for my WRT54g/WVC200 combo. Hopefully this will help anyone still stuck on setting it up.
    You want to set everything up using wired connections exclusively until everything is working and you are ready to jump to wireless.
    Reset your WRT54G router to factory default settings. If you can't access the admin page simply press the reset button on the back of the router and hold it down for about a minute (should reset to factory spec). I am using the latest firmware for each device (linksys phone support can help you with firmware if you don't have the latest stuff, or you can look for other threads on the topic).
    Now that your router has a fresh install, unplug its power supply for now. Turn your attention to wiring. Make sure you have a powered-off PC connected to one of the ethernet ports on the router.
    Power up your router first, giving it time to boot (usually under 30 seconds). Then power up your PC and pay a visit to your blank router at http://192.168.1.1  user:admin  password:admin and leave your internet settings alone for now (they shouldnt affect your camera setup later as long as you have a typical dynamic IP internet connection)
    In the first page for the router setup, make sure you use DHCP for the local network (I believe this is the default setting) and set a healthy DHCP user limit. *Apply/Save Settings*
     In the wireless menu, broadcast on G-only, channel 6, assign an easy to remember SSID ("smithnetwork" etc) *Apply/Save Settings* . In the wireless security tab, choose WPA, TKIP, and type in a good passcode (strongest passwords are 10 or more randomly typed letters and numbers) *Apply/Save Settings*
    Click on the Administration tab, set an equally strong password to access the router setup (can be the same as your wireless encryption passcode if its strong). Additionally, make sure UPnP and Remote Management are disabled, Wireless Management enabled. *Apply/Save Settings* (this should now prompt you for the password you just created in order to return to the router setup)
    Go ahead and connect to your newly broadcasting network from a laptop wireless card etc. (which should still give you limited connectivity even if you haven't configured your internet settings yet) by going to http://192.168.1.1 in your browser like I said earlier. If you manage to get to the router menu then you know your wireless network is functioning at least to a certain degree. If you are stuck here, its probably not too complex of a problem for linksys phone tech support to get you back on track.
    Note: If you have been tweaking camera settings prior to this attempt, you might want to turn it on without any network cables hooked up and try holding the reset button down (like we did to restore the router's factory settings earlier).
    Now get your WVC200 camera and hook up the ethernet cable to one of the open ethernet ports on your router and the port on the camera. Plug in the camera's power supply. At this point, the camera should boot up, calibrate the servo motors, and attempt to join your router's LAN. If your camera does ANYTHING but connect to the network successfully and give you a local IP, you have a problem I haven't encountered and you should re-read the instructions or consider an RMA.
    Default Local IPs (assuming each device joined the network in proper order)
    Router: 192.168.1.1
    Your ethernet-wired PC: 192.168.1.2
    Your wirelessly connected laptop: 192.168.1.3
    Your camera: 192.168.1.4 (this is what your camera should display on the LCD)
    At this point you can confirm your camera is properly placed on the DHCP client table by getting into your router setup and clicking the status tab > local network > DHCP clients table. You should find your 3 devices connected, assigned the above IPs, and you should see the camera (named "WVC200" on the list). Again, if this is not the case for you using factory settings, I reccomend talking to linksys phone support or RMA the item.
    Now close all your browsers and load a fresh internet explorer, navigating to the camera's local IP address (should be http://192.168.1.4 or whatever your client table listed). This is basically how you configured your WRT54g router earlier (even uses the same admin/admin login).
    Once you're in the camera management page, click on the setup tab. Note the sub-menu that appears on the left side, click on "basic" and make sure camera name is WVC200, LCD/LED enabled, Daylight savings checked, NTP automatic server un-checked, make sure Automatic (DHCP) is set.
    Wireless SSID "smithnetwork" or whatever you assigned it earlier in the router wireless setup, network type: infrastructure. *Apply/Save Settings*
    In the same Setup > Basic menu, at the very bottom of the page should be the wireless security settings ( default should be "disabled" ). Click the "edit security settings" button, select WPA Personal, it should be on the TKIP algorithm, and don't forget to enter the wireless WPA password you created earlier on the router. *Apply/Save Settings* also: click *Apply/Save Settings* on the main page again too just to be sure it applied. The security settings should now display when you reload the page.
    While we are in setup, click on the "users" link to the left, replace the default administrator login with your own custom one, making sure to check the "enable authentication" box. *Apply/Save Settings*
    At this point, you should have your WVC200 fully configured and broadcasting video on the wired LAN, if this is not the case, I would have no clue why it wouldn't work with the same equipment and method and you are out of luck.
    Now, for the moment of truth! You should have your router right next to you with wireless ready to go (you tested this earlier) and the camera antenna installed on your WVC200. Unplug the power from the camera, unplug the ethernet cable that connects the router and camera to one another, and plug the power back into the camera. After the lens calibrates and stops moving, the wireless LED should light up and probably start flickering as it negotiates a connection with your router. It should find your network and display an IP fairly quick (probably 192.168.1.4 default). If it takes longer than 15 seconds youre probably out of luck and should double-check everything in this post and move on to a different post if it still doesn't work.
    I used to spend hours at this point, wondering why it wouldn't join my perfectly functional wireless network. It would try to connect to the wireless network for about 5 minutes, it would appear to successfully connect sometimes, but it would display the incorrect local IP address and would refuse to function regardless of its self-proclaimed connectivity. I learned that the router's WPA2 encryption was overpowering the puny WPA + TKIP on the camera even though I was using AES/TKIP combo on the router (which was supposed to make the router compatible with original WPA + TKIP devices while still letting you use WPA2). Maybe Linksys can include a fix for this in future router/camera firmware.
    To make sure the wireless is functioning properly, open up an internet explorer window and try connecting to camera management page again (http://192.168.1.4 by default) while your camera still has no ethernet cable hooked up to it. Check to make sure you can see video etc. I never experienced signal problems like other users did. This combination of router/camera worked well (-21 dB with it sitting next to the router, -39dB in the other room)
    DynDNS Service setup:
    I basically figured out that while the DNS features on the camera might be useful to some, its still buggy and there is a MUCH more powerful dynDNS feature on the WRT54g router itself. Navigate to your router (default: http://192.168.1.1 ) like you did earlier and get into the setup page. Click the "DDNS" menu and select the dyndns.org, enter your username, password, and domain name. I am assuming you already have a free dyndns account created or would otherwise have no issue setting up an account with them, so I won't cover that in my post. By clicking *Apply/Save Settings* assuming you configured your internet access through the router like you always did, the router should ask your cable/DSL modem what its WAN IP is and display it (the dynamic internet IP address that was making life difficult for you). What's nice about the router handling this task is that the router is usually first to know when the modem changes the IP (therefore it will immediately log in for you and update the dynDNS).
    **Important** This camera uses port 80 by default, so while youre still logged into the router managment page, click on the "Applications & Gaming" menu and type an application name like "linksys" , start port 80, end port 80, TCP only, specify the camera's local DHCP address (default: 192.168.1.4) and don't forget to enable it by checking the box then *Apply/Save Settings*
    I would allow at least several hours for the dynDNS servers to apply the changes before becoming concerned, but who knows maybe it will work right away for you. At this point, you should have plenty of functionality to play with the rest of the features of the camera, enjoy! I will post any additions/revisions if need be.

    I have made all what you suggested.
    But now I cannot add the camera in the monitor > setup page.
    I can see the camera in the camera list WVC200.
    IP 192.168.15.101
    port 80
    But when I press add, I get  "connection fail".
    Is the port still 80 - since the Channel is set to  6
    I have done no port forwarding as other has suggested.
    Checking with the browser at : 192.168.15.101
    Page can't be found .....
    The router says:
    WVC200 192.168.15.101 LAN 00:18:39:35:6A:13 23:24:26 
    The camera displays the same ip .......
    The router setup page : Local IP 192.168.15.1
        IP Address Range :  192.168.15. 100 to 149 
    I have made a system restore, and installed the camera sw again.
    If I unplug the lan and turn to wireless the camera LCD display: 192.168.1.115 DHCP
    But that page cannot be found ......

  • Strange connectivity issue with WRT54G

    I hope you can help with this.  I have just moved into a new house and am trying to connect the internet through their WRT54G wirelessG router.  It shows up with full reception in the WindowsXP wireless connection manager, but it will not connect.  IPCONFIG has its status as 'Media Disconnected', and all pings to 192.168.1.1 fail.  A loopback test ping to 127.0.0.1 works.  My flatmate's wireless connection to same router works fine, and when he accesses the router's configuration page it states that I HAVE connected and DHCP has assigned me an IP.  I've tried everything; deleting & resetting the connection, resetting the TCP/IP/Winsock protocols, disabling the WEP security on the router, but no luck.  The connection is fine on my flatmate's computer.  My machine is a Dell laptop and and I have taken it to 3 other wireless networks and it connects to them no problem.  I can connect to the router in question fine wired with a CAT5 cable but it's not convenient to have that as a permanent solution (when the router is supposed to be wireless!)
    I work in IT and thought I was pretty good with computers but this has me completely stumped!  I looked for new firmware but couldn't find any listed on your site - if there is could you provide a link, or if you've any other ideas what could be causing this please let me know!

    Sounds to me like it's related to a configuration setting despite the "Media Disconnected" message. Try disabling any SpeedBooster or other non-essential options on the router. Perpaps the Dell WiFi NIC doesn't like it. I doubt it's a MAC filtering issue but you can try removing that too. If it's a somewhat older laptop you can try removing the small panel on the bottom and reseating the WiFi adapter if it's located there. Newer Dells have them built in around the LCD where you can't access them.

  • For those who constantly lose their wireless internet connection using WRT54G

    Ok I was constantly losing my wireless internet connection on my LAN network when using my laptop, I tried everything to no avail,until today. Heres what I did to solve my problem
    1. Upgrade your firmware for the WRT54G to ver.6
    2. Reset your wireless router
    3. Unplug all cables and wires from your Pc and router
    4. Connect your Pc directly to your cable modem and obtain an internet connection
    5. Now transfer files you want to keep from your laptop onto a usb flash drive or burn them to a disk
    6. Reformat your laptop so that it goes back to all factory settings just like when you bought it
    7. When completely done reformatting run software that came with the WRT54G on your desktop pc and follow all instructions,when prompted to type password type the password you last used
    8. Go to your laptop and it should pickup a LAN,click connect, it will ask for the encryption key so type it in(whatever you typed when re-installing your wireless router)
    Congratulations you are now back up and running,install files saved earlier back on your laptop and enjoy.This is what I did and it solved my problem as a matter of fact i typed this from my laptop and has not dropped my wireless internet connection yet.
    NOTE SAVE ANY AND ALL FILES YOU WANT TO KEEP AS REFORMATTING WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOSE DATA!
    IAM IN NO WAY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ERRORS OR PROBLEMS THIS PROCEDURE COULD CAUSE IF DONE INCORRECTLY!

    If you bought a version 5 or 6 return it to where you bought and apply the money towards a WRT54GL v1.x  You'll be much happier.  You could spend time online rather than pulling your hair out trying to figure out whats wrong.  I setup 6 Linux based WRT54G's with no issues before I was given the task of setting up a version 6.  Worked for about an hour.  Told the guy to return it for a GL.  Long story short, set it up in a matter of minutes and he was online.  That was 3 weeks ago and he is very happy.

  • Wireless Printing issues with HP Deskjet 2540

    Hello everyone,
    I am experiencing an issue with an HP Deskjet 2540 printer - it prints if I have connected it to a USB cable; however, it refuses to print if I try to print wirelessly. 
    I had initially solved this problem when I went to System Preferences > Printers and Scanners and noticed two Deskjet 2540 series icons in a window titled 'Printers'. I ended up removing one of these icons and set the other one as a default, which seemed to temporarily solve my problem. Now, I see two icons back in this 'Printers' menu and my printer refuses to print through my wireless connection.
    My printer is connected to my internet connection so I don't think there is an issue here - I also have recently installed the software for this printer to make sure there was not some sort of driver issue; however, this does not seem to give me the permanent solution I am looking for.
    Any Advice? My operating system is OS X Version 10.9.5

    Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  I understand you're having difficulty printing wirelessly with your HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer.  I would like to assist you with this and may have some steps that will ensure you can print wirelessly from your Mac.  
    I recommend you start from scratch and re-do your printer install and wireless setup for best results. 
    Firstly, make doubly sure your printer is connected to your wireless network by doing the following:
    Step one: Prepare for installationTo gather your network name (SSID) and password (WEP key or WPA passphrase), you can ask the person who originally set up your network, see the documentation that came with the router, or contact the manufacturer. HP cannot set up or change the network SSID or the password.
    Make sure that you have the following requirements before you begin:
    Network name: The network name is the SSID (Service Set Identifier).
    WEP key or WPA security passphrase
    A computer that is connected to the wireless network.
    Internet access. HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL.
    Your wireless-capable HP product. Place it close to the computer during the installation procedure.
    A USB cable (used only during installation).
    Administrator privileges or password
    Make sure the product, access point, and computer are all on, and that the computer is connecting to the wireless network.
    Connect the USB Cable to the rear port of the HP product and to any USB port on the computer.
    Exit all applications running on your computer.

    Secondly, prepare your Mac by removing any existing printers added:
    Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    Choose Print & Scan from the View menu.
    Click the "-" (Remove printer) button.
    Next, click here to download and install your printer's software.  As you work your way through the setup, follow the prompts to convert your usb install to wireless.  With this setup completed successfully your wireless printing capability should be restored. 
    One way to preserve this wireless connection is to make sure your wireless mode/router is left on continually.  If at anytime your network connection is lost, reconnecting your printer will mean that it's being assigned a new IP address.  The significance here is that your Mac will be looking to connect with the printer at an IP address that is no longer applicable. 
    Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post.  Best of luck!

  • MacBook and MacBook Pro with 10.6:  Wireless Airport Issues with Cisco

    Long Story but please bear with me:
    Loaded SL on my daughters MacBook and my MacBook Pro. Internet worked flawlessly at our house (WEP encrypted) and on other public wifi. When my daughter went back to her sorority house at college 24 hours later, she could not access the internet using the sorority house network (Cisco Aironet 1800 router and Cisco Airo Access Points).
    Her Airport on the MacBook appeared connected at full strength yet no internet. Two calls to Apple support (they were very nice) did not help. All the following were tried:
    1. Reset PRAM
    2. Deleted Airport and Safari plists
    3. Edited locations
    4. Removed Battery
    5. Others I cannot now remember
    Still no net. However, she could 'pirate' and hop on line with other identified public wifi adjacent to the sorority house. I drove to the sorority house today and tried to get on the network wirelessly using my MacBook Pro with SL. Same identical results to hers. Another MacBook without SL works great and gets right on the network.
    Is this some SL influenced issue with the Airport card and the Cisco system? Weird that both of our laptops work great with several other wifi networks but not the one at the sorority house.
    Could much of what we all our seeing with the internet access problem lie not with issues within our software or computers but with the routers and access points not being compatible? I have very little understanding of this stuff (as you all can probably tell) but the Apple Support people acted like it was a old firmware issue with Cisco and not with SL. Not actually what I wanted to hear.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Your description there, particularly the last part, sounds like my problem. At home, we connect using Airport and ADSL which was OK, once SL had sorted out passwords.
    At my office, where there are two wifi systems, I could not get on either, although did have IP numbers on both. The link to the outside world is via a proxy which uses a PAC file. Network Diagnostics reported each time (whatever I did) that the link to the server was OK, but the Internet was not.
    I created a new Location with identical settings (typing them in and not copying) and the only visible difference is that the new location has no DNS numbers -- I had not noticed that before. The moment I pressed, Apply, the computer was online.
    I was guessing that there was a conflict in a .plist file somewhere; but now I wonder if DNS might have been the reason (the DNS number usually used is the one from the router itself).

  • I am having wireless connectivity issues with my time capsule

    Over the last 3 days my wireless devices have been having issues with connectivity.
    Network setup:
    Modem - Motorola SB5102 Cable Modem
    1 TB Time Capsule 802.11n (second generation)
    The devices are approximately 3 feet apart.
    Wired Device:
    Mac Pro (2008 build) running OSX 10.6.8, Airport Utility 5.6.1
    Wireless Devices:
    Playstation 3
    Macbook Air
    iPhone 5c
    iPhone 4
    I am having issues with internet connectivity. The wireless signal strength is fine as all devices can find the network. However when connected to the network accessing the internet on the Macbook Air, or either iPhone is slow and streaming services such as Netflix cannot connect. I have intermitant connectivity to the Playstation Network on the PS3.
    I have wired both the Macbook Air and PS3 directly to the Time Capsule and have no issues, internet is accessible and streaming services are fine.
    I have power cycled all the devices (Time Capsule, macbook, iphones, PS3, modem) to no result.
    I am looking for any other suggestions that may help me with my wireless connectivity issue.

    A Gen2 TC is probably on its last gasp.. and it is well overdue for replacement.
    If you want to get more life out of it you normally need to repair or replace the internal power supply.. This is not done by apple or any of their repair centres.
    Just do ebay search and you will find sellers with replacement supplies.
    Otherwise to test, do a full factory reset..
    I would also downgrade the firmware.. 7.5.2 will work just as well for you and has less bugs than 7.6.x firmware.
    To downgrade hold down the option key when you select firmware version.
    The Factory Reset universal
    Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
    If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
    Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
    TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
    No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.

  • Issues with WRT54g V. 8 on Xbox Live.

    Hey guys,
    I'm having an issue with lag on xbox live.  My NAT type is set to open and I have my xbox DMZ as well as port forwarded.  There is no issue with joining games but I'm getting a lag anytime I play.  It's a short delay but when I throw a grenade or something of that sort it takes a second for the grenade to actually throw, and while that seems like a minor problem it makes all the difference in the games.  My last speed test showed 3 mbps down and 500 kbps up.  I've done as much research as possible and I'm sure the problem isn't with my ISP (time warner) but the issue lies somewhere in the router.  For whatever reason traffic is just getting hung up in the router and I CANNOT FIGURE IT OUT.  
    I have a linksys WRT54G V.8 with the latest firmware.  Its running on Channel 11 and I have WPA2 AES security enabled.  My mtu is 1500 and I have Qos enabled for my xbox's mac address and while in games I show a 4 bar connection to the host pretty much at all times.  I'm stumped folks and any suggestions or even explanations would be greatly appreciate.

    Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop).In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
    On the set-up tab change the MTU Size to 1365 and click Save Settings...
    Click on "Administration" tab and disable the option UPnP and click Save Settings...
    Click on "Applications and Gaming" tab and then click on "Port Range Forwarding" subtab...
    1) On the first line in Application box type in ABC, in the start box type in 53 and End box type in 3074, leave the protocol as both and under ip address type in 192.168.1.20 and check the enable box, click Save Settings once done...
    2) Once you return to the set up page click on the Security tab and uncheck Block Anonymous Internet Requests and click on Save Settings...
    3) Click on set-up and change the MTU Size to 1452 and click Save Settings...Click on the Status tab and take note of DNS1 and DNS2 Addresses...
    4) Goto the XBox Network Settings and IP Address Settings and select manual IP Settings and assign the following on your Xbox
    IP Address :- 192.168.1.20, Subnet Mask :- 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway :- 192.168.1.1...
    5) Also assign the DNS Addresses on the Xbox
    Use DNS1 and DNS2 Addresses you took note off of the router status tab as Primary DNS & Secondary DNS for the xbox...
    6) Turn off your modem, router, and Xbox...Wait for a minute...
    7) Plug the modem power first, wait for another minute and plug the router power cable, wait another minute and turn on the Xbox and test it...it will connect...
    ** Also try to lowe down the security such as WPA,WEP(64-bit)

  • Need Help setting up 2 wireless internet computers with 54g wireless router

    I setup the 54g wireless router using the setup disk.  It appears to have worked find and the first laptop has wireless internet.  I am not familiar with setting up a totally wireless network so I am not sure if I did the rest right.  I then setup the 54g wireless internet router on the 2nd computer.  It appears to have loaded but will not connect to the internet.  I looked at the linksys setup etc... for both computers and all is the same including the WPA key, IP address, and the rest.  No differences noted.  I have no idea why the 2nd computer does not have wireless internet access.  It has wired access only.  The 2nd computer shows the wireless network but won't connect to it.  I click on it and hit refresh and nothing happens.  I am at a loss as to what to do now. 
    With 2 wireless computers, must there be a main computer and a secondary computer?  The 1st computer also doesn't have access to windows network setup for some reason.  It tells me to go to the knowledge base at microsoft.com and look up 871122.  No idea why the windows network setup is not working.  It did work before I got a new cable service provider and modem.  However, the windows network setup is working on the 2nd computer. Any help is appreciated.  

    does the 2nd computer even need the router info loaded into it like the 1st computer or should it be enough that the wireless network was created on the 1st computer?  In other words, would having the router info loaded in both computers cause the 2nd one to not connect?  I have spent hours on this and I am very confused now. 
    My router connects fine to the cable modem.  the 1st computer connects fine to the router and gets the wireless internet without a problem.  Again, the 2nd computer shows the network name but won't connect to it.  help please!!

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus - Wireless connection issues with Wireless Extender

    I have a TPLink Wireless 300MBps wall plug extender to boost the wireless signal around my home.
    When in use my OfficeJet fails to connect to the wireless network at all, even if you 're-configure' the wireless as a new connection from the printer.
    Turn off the extender, reboot the printer, and voila - it connects within seconds.
    Any ideas as to what I can try?

    I think there are several things at play here.  The most suspicious is that the extender and the router are not the same brand.  There may be some protocol issues with this setup that the printer will never be happy with.
    Can you move your main router and forget the extender?

  • Wireless connection issue with specific iPads

    There seems to be a wireless issue with specific iPads. I sat with an Apple Genius in an adjacent Peets Coffee. His iPad connected on the first try after entering the access code. I had been trying all day with my iPad. This was after the Genius had me "Reset Network Settings" to return the factory defaults. Still no luck at Peets with my iPad. The coffee shop wireless signal on my iPad was 1 out of 3 bars. Yet this same iPad continues to have no issue connecting at the office or at home.

    That's interesting. We also have the 64 GB Wi-Fi iPad. It connects fine at home, but only got one bar at the coffee shop and wouldn't connect this morning. Haven't tried it anywhere else yet.

  • Can't get internet access with WRT54G router

    I recently purchased a used WRT54G. I replaced my old wired linksys router with it and my hosts are able to get dhcp addresses from the router, but they cannot access the Internet. I have tried to use dchp release and renew buttons under the status tab in the router's web-based gui to get a public IP address, but can't get one. I have attempted to reset the router to its factory settings, but I still can't get the public IP. I have no problem getting an IP and Internet access with my old router and the WRT54G works if I disable its dchp and daisy chain it to the old one. Maybe I need to do something else for a complete reset of the router. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jack

    the router that you just purchased was maybe configured for a different network before that's why it did not work initially. after making the router back to its' factory defaults, you should reconfigure or set-up the router.. If you have CABLE ISP, enable ''mac address clone'' on the router's set-up page under the set-up tab. then check if you can get a public ip address after that.

  • Wireless Internet Connection Speed (WRT54GS)

    Have three computers. One with a hard line and the other two wireless. One of the wireless has a WVSB54GS USB Network adapter w/ Speed Booster. Well I have no clue what the problem is. My brother use to manage our internet system and he has gone off to college leaving me w/ this mess. My computer has a wireless internet card and the speed use to always be at 120 Mbps, now though it rebounds back and forth and lately it keeps at 48.0 Mbps and sometimes it just all out fails to 1.0 Mbps. The other computer w/ the USB adapter has always had a crappy speed of about 54.0 Mbps and I would really like to fix this.
    Any ideas what happened to degrade my speed so much? Could I have accidentally screwed something up when I was messing w/ it previously? The one w/ the USB adapter consistently looses it's access point or when it has it cannot find the internet yet the other two don't have any problems. So I have to reset my modem/router/computer a lot till it finds it again.
    Any Help or Info is greatly appreciated

    There are many causes for poor wireless connections.  And there are many cures:
    First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
    Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. In rare cases, Bluetooth devices can interfere. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
    In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
    Also, try to locate the router about 4 to 6 feet above the floor, in an open area. Do not locate it behind your monitor or near other computer equipment or speakers. The antenna should be vertical.
