Wireless keyboard (brand new) isnt working

I just bought the a new apple wireless KB (old style with numeric keypad to side), and cant get it to work. The green light on the back comes on, and blinks in intervals of two quick blinks.
The caps lock light does not come on, and when I try to go through the KB setup command, it does not recognize the KB. Does this sound defective?

Never mind. I wasnt in bluetooth setup.

To my knowledge, no. If you are near an Apple store take the KB in for diagnosis.

start hal using "sudo /etc/rc.d/hal start" before starting xorg. if mouse/keyboard work, add hal to the DAEMONS array in /etc/rc.conf.
imo disabling hotplugging is cheap, just ignoring a problem instead of solving it
If he don't need hotplugging, then there is no reason to use it...

As for your non-working keys, perhaps debris somehow got beneath the keys.  Especially if you were eating while using your computer.  Spilled anything on the keys lately or previously?

If none of the above applies to you, you could have a hardware issue.  If you have Apple Care, call them and get a case number.  Otherwise, take the computer to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.
Liquid damage is not covered under Apple's standard 1 year warranty or Apple Care.
NOTE:  If you are out of warranty and purchased the computer with a credit card, discuss the warranty issue with the credit card company which you purchased the computer with.   They are the only ones who can at this point cover the computer after it goes out of warranty with the manufacturer (Apple).
If you have Homeowners insurance, place a claim with them.

  • Ultraslim wireless keyboard and mouse not working

Hi ,  I purchased the Lenovo Ultraslim Wireless Keyboard & Mouse (pn: 57Y4700) about 4 months ago for use with my T60 laptop (which i use with a docking station and large lenovo monitor at work).
Everything was woking fine until last Monday when I can into work after the weekend and neither the mouse or keyboard worked. I replaced the batteries in both, rebooted the machine several time, switch the USB ports for the nano receiver, but nothing seems to have worked.
I looked online for troubleshooting options, but did not find anything.
The mouse and keyboard don't seem to have a "sych" button - if I recall correctly everything worked right out of the box.
My theory is that the nano reciever was damaged (not sure how) -- but don't know how to proceed:
    can the nano reciever be replaced;
    any other options to troubleshoot;
any chance that this could be a software problem
    Thanks

  • TS2662 Wireless keyboard and mouse were working fine until today; installed new batteries in both when they wouldn't work-says they are connected intermittently, but can't use either one-have tried to re-pair and nothing happens-codes not recognized-

i have been using my wireless keyboard and mouse with no probs until today-installed updates this morning-since I restarted have been unable to use either device-have tried everything Apple suggests to do- re-pairing unsuccessfully; turned everything off and back on-sometimes the Bluetooth says it is connected, othertimes not-but even when it says it is connected the keyboard/mouse don't work; put in new batteries-no go also; bluetooth icon is on.  Anyone have any ideas????

  • New Apple Wireless Keyboard Function Key not working ON 10.5.8

Tried updating keyboard os, disconecting reconnecting. Selecting/deselecting option in keyboard options.  power off and on
Cannot get function key to work
    Thanks

found answer here- my wireless keyboard model is  MC184LL/B
    http://store.apple.com/us/question/answers/product/MB110LL/B?pqid=QXXHTX4T747AAF PXKHXCC72CYAXYU7XXYUPK9UFC74K27FPKF
The Function keys will not all work properly on 10.5.8, all the other keys will be fine.  The previous model MB110LL/A would work with all the Function keys on Leopard or Snow Leopard.

  • New Wireless Keyboard Function Keys Not Working

I recently got an Apple Wireless keyboard- the newest one, with only 2 batteries. I connected it to my MacBook Pro (10.5.8) just fine, and everything seemed to have been working. But the function keys don't work for their functions (F7 as previous, F8 as play, etc.). I've tried changing the settings, manually mapping shortcuts, and reinstalling the keyboard, but nothing worked, I installed all the updates, including the Magic Mouse update, but the function keys still don't work properly. The system recognizes them, but I can't map shortcuts to them, nor do the built-in shortcuts work.

You can download the software update even if you don't have a wireless mouse. Go to the apple site then "downloads" and look along the left columns for "top apple downloads" which should open a list. As of tonight, look for #11 Apple wireless mouse download. Download that and it should fix your wireless keyboard and the function keys. As mentioned in my earlier response, be sure under System Preferences and Keyboard icon that the "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys...." box is unchecked.
The above should take care of the problem even though you do not have a wireless mouse.

  • Wireless Keyboard FN Key Not Working

    I have checked this box:
I also tried the Firmware 1.1 update but I got a messege saying:
"No Apple Aluminum Keyboards Found" and I paraphrase "Please connect the device or make sure it is turned on etc."
I also tried the Firmware 2.0 update but got the same message. I can't physically connect the Wireless Keyboard to the Mac Mini I have. It's wireless FFS.
I ALSO Installed the Bluetooth Firmware Update 2.0.1 and that didn't help
Also I tried some advice from a forum mentioning a SMC or System Management Controller via these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
But nothing is allowing me to use my FN keys anymore. This is annoying because I thoroughly enjoyed volume control from my keyboard. Now it's gone.
This all started when my old keyboard broke and I got a new one. I want my volume control back! Help me please before I jump out the window!

    Hi.
My FN key is not working either. I have a macbook white (10.5.8) and a brand new apple wifi keyboard.
F9 to F12 keys are working. F1 to F4 keys are not working.
I've gone thought many posts (some are listed bellow). In short, I did the following already:
    - keyboard software update
    - keyboard firmware update
    - magic mouse software update (because some posts suggested that more than one Bluetooth device, like magic mouse, could interfere on Bluetooth keyboard operation.
    - SMC reset (above in this post).
Most posts were saying  "uncheck the "use F1, F2......", then recheck it. This didn't work for me.
    I'd appreciate any help.
    Thanks in advance.
    Gus.

  • How to connect wireless keyboard to new machine for setup?

I have a new Mac Mini Lion Server and only have wireless keyboard and wireless mouse. When I startup the Mac Mini and turn on the mouse and keyboard, mouse is connected but keyboard is not. I do not have a USB keyboard. How can I get the Mac Mini to recognize the wireless keyboard?

Having the same problem right now. Got my Mac Mini yesterday. tried to set it up but the keyboard from my windows computer didn't map. Went and bought a wireless keyboard and magic pad today, couldn't get it to work. will try your advise tomorrow. if that doesn't work, will return the whole package and get another windows PC. i do like my iPhone though. Maybe Apple should stick with making phones. Very disapointed for my wasted time and lack of explanation.

  • PalmOne wireless keyboard-does it work with pocket pc?

I have an ipaq pocket pc H2200 and a Palmone wireless keyboard but i have no idea if it works with my handheld? The manual i downloaded for the keyboard dowsn't seem to be for this keyboard as it doesn't look the same or have a bluetooth button on it. It is a 3169WW. I got both devices from a friend and she didn't seem how to use them either. I have no driver cd's at all. I put new batteries in the keyboard but ultimately i do not know if the keyboard is working.
    Post relates to: None

The 3169WW is an IR device.  Find the keyboard icon on your Ipaq, enable the driver, then place the ipaq into the keyboard holder and align the little wand with the Ir port on the ipaq.
Sounds like you would greatly benefit by reading the user guides for the keyboard:

  • Cleaned the keys on my wireless keyboard, 5 keys not working.

Cleaned the keys on my wireless keyboard with rubbing alcohol. Now my number 2 key, w, s, x and caps lock keys won't work. I copy and paste these right now. I did notice the cotton balls were saturated and some seeped out, but I didn't notice that my keys didn't work till 2 days later. I did leave my keyboard in the sun to see if it helped for about 45 min. It's still not working. Any suggestions? Hope There is a way to save my keyboard.

I did notice the cotton balls were saturated and some seeped out,
Never clean a keyboard with rubbing alcohol and never leave the keyboard in the sun, or any Apple products for that matter.
You may need to purchase a new keyboard.
In the future, follow the instructions here >  How to clean Apple products

  • Wireless Keyboard Volume control not working

    Hi all
recently got a new Envy Phonext 800 050, came with a wireless keyboard and mouse, both of which work fine apart from the volume controls on the keyboard and I cant seem to find software/drivers for them that run under windows 8 ? any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Hi capnchuck,
Thanks for the quick reply. I would like you to check out Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Troubleshooting it has some troubleshooting steps we can try first. You may be required to download the drivers for your specific keyboard can give me the name of your keyboard  example: HP Wireless Elite Desktop Keyboard, HP Wireless Entertainment Keyboard etc.. so that I can narrow down the keyboards that are coming up with that product number. Hope to hear from you soon.

  • Wireless Keyboard F Keys not working at all

Just got a new wireless keyboard. Love it other than none of the F keys work and I can't seem to figure out if it's something I need to change in Keyboard preferences or what? Volume, brightness, expose, playback, etc keys all are non-functional. Even if I press the Fn as well.. Also, while there is a dedicated "eject" key on the right, it's actually the F12 (also labeled volume) key that activates the eject icon on the screen. However, that doesn't eject the cd tray at all....
Total confusion, thanks in advance for any advice.

Did you install the keyboard software?
