Wireless problems on Dell Mini 10v

The computer is a Dell Mini 10v.
I've followed the wiki post on the 10v, but it is out of date as the kernel does provide support for the Broadcom 4312. Installing broadcom_wl is not necessary.
netcfg v2.6.8 and wpa_supplicant v0.7.3
/var/log/everything.log |grep rfkill

Sometimes my machine spits back an rfkill related error rather than wpa authentication errors.

I've been getting crazy errors that seem to be related to my inability to properly configure wpa_supplicant. My system does connect to wpa and wpa2 encrypted connections from boot, but I'm unable to connect to them manually without getting.

  • Audio Input on Dell Mini 10v

The audio input on my Dell Mini 10v doesn't work. These seems to be a known problem - in Ubuntu, they applied a patch to get it working in Karmic: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/394793
I confirmed by booting Ubuntu from USB that audio is working.
Does anyone know how I can get this to work in Arch? This stuff is really over my head. The input device shows up in alsa, but not audio is there. This patch is needed to set the input level apparently.
    Thanks!

Bump - someone must be able to point me in the right direction, I know there's a lot of smart kernel type people around here . . .

  • Dell mini 10v Issue during install process.

When I attempt to build the b43 firmware from makepkg, it says "==> ERROR: Cannot fing the strip binary required for object file stripping." Please keep in mind that I am using the install usb because I can't connect to the internet. The fwcutter is installed as well. Thank you for reading.

The live media unfortunately does not include all of base-devel.  You need the binutils package, which has /usr/bin/strip.  The live media is really meant to be used with internet access, but I see your dilemma here.
You obviously have internet access on something though, so why not download the package itself (or look in /var/cache/pacman/pkg if you installed base-devel on the on-disk system) and install it into the live media with pacman -U.

  • Dell Mini HDMI Issues

I have a Dell Mini 10V which has the dreaded  Poulsbo aka Intel GMA500 chipset.  I have been running the latest drivers with no issues for normal operation.  I decided to try the HDMI output and found that it causes the screen of the mini to go to a terminal window (crashed Openbox) and flickers where the screen can not be read.  The only recovery that I have found is a hard reboot.
I wanted to know if anyone has successfully connected a TV or monitor to their Dell Mini?

What happens if you put the 4GB (2X2GB) back in? I'm thinking since the video adapter uses hardware RAM, that the new RAM is causing the issue. Just a hunch.

  • Does a NETGEAR - Wireless-N Router work with a the dell mini g card?

I want to purchase a dell laptop with a dell mini g card. Will the Netgear Wireless-N Router Model- WNR2000 work with it? It's extra for the dell mini n card. I don't want to have to pay extra for that if I don't have to. Thanks

Unless you are transferring a large amount of data between computers or a media device attached to a home theater system, wireless N is merely going to give you better range.

    Hi,
I had the same problem with my tx2z and broadcom-wl. After reinstalling the wl and trying to enter the key as a string "key s:XXXXXXXXXX" I had a look at the key setup using iwlist:
    [alpha@myhost ~]$ sudo iwlist eth0 key
    eth0 4 key sizes : 40, 104, 256, 128bits
    4 keys available :
    [1]: off
    [2]: off
    [3]: off
    [4]: off
    Current Transmit Key: [1]
from there I decided to manually state the key rather than allowing implicit decleration. Hence writing:
    [alpha@myhost ~]$ sudo iwconfig eth0 essid BTHomeHub-XXXX key [1] XXXXXXXXXX
    rather than the error producing:
    [alpha@myhost ~]$ sudo iwconfig eth0 essid BTHomeHub-XXXX key XXXXXXXXXX
This produced no errors and allowed the connection. Hope this helps, and sorry for lack of technical understanding (it were a bit of trial and error and have only recently started with arch).
Also, if it helps, my rc.conf section is as follows:
    INTERFACES=(eth0)
and my ifconfig and iwconfig are:
    [alpha@myhost ~]$ ifconfig
    eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:21:00:73:C6:A8

  • Anyone with Arch on Dell Mini 9 (Inspiron 910) ?

    As subj ask
    thanks !

Thanks buttons. Arch installation on Dell Inspiron Mini 9 completed. Here it goes
fs : ext4 worked fine but when Ieft on battery over night  for Syu caused most of the config and executables to disappear. reinstalled with ext3 with 4
partitions. (root/boot/usr/home). ext3 with noatime,commit=15 option. Added 512 MB swap latter (swap in file). /var/log and /tmp in tmpfs
sound: alsa fails at times without any reason and leaving no sign even with option in modeprobe.conf.  oss works fine.
for the alsa to work the google search provided the following solutions.
blacklist snd-pcsp. put the options mentioned in this thread and alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel in modprobe.conf
WM/DE : metacity / GNOME with slim login manager.
: Problem faced: without any DE/WM mounting swap / var / tmp directories on 16 GB SDHC card works. but with DE/GNOME GNOME fails on
gconf-sanity-check-2 exited (status 256) error message. (all xml files in .gconf are tho' with right permissions). gdm issues error something
related to missing /var/log/gdm directory and hence switched to slim. (/var/log in temfs)
Power saving: suspend works. even with 512 MB swap files hibernation is not working as expected.
Networking : conventional method (network daemon) works fine for Ethernet (r8169 driver). wireless network connection yet to be tested. (wireless connection tested and working fine)
side note: netcfg miserably fails. network connection dropped without leaving any message.
correction: The problem is not with netcfg as eth0 and eth1 are getting swaped. The
solution is to put the modules in rc.conf or creating udv rule.
Total Installation size: aprox: 3.3 GB
Others: bluetooth is yet to tested. web cam works as mentioned in this thread.
bluetooth is working fine.kernel pulls the modules but not enabled.
                              To enable use this aircraftmanger
Side note: for the aircraft manger to work portio needs to be installed and is in aur.
Hope this will help the Dell mini 9 users with Arch installation.

  • X31 Wireless problems (Intel 2100) and Type Auto detected as 'TP-1-Q___' instead of '2672-NG9'

    Hey
I'm a thinkpad fan, and very happy about the good ol' x-series. I have a X31 type '2672-NG9', and it has been to a warranty repair once when the charger failed. At his point I got a new mainboard.
The problem is that the wireless network hasn't been working quite right since I got the mainboard replaced. Last time I made a reinstall of windows (via the Factory defaults service in the IBM bios), I somehow got the wireless to work with Windows' "Wireless Zero Configuration" service. Never got it to work with Access connections, and FN+F5 service couldn't always see the wireless device.
I have just made a reinstall again, and this time I'm not able to install the wireless card at all. When I try to run the driver (I found via the Thinkpad drivers matrix), the card appears for a few seconds, and disappears again.
The driver is called "Intel PRO/wireless LAN 2100 3b Mini PCI adapter" and is found here:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-59438
Via the Drivers matrix for the X3x's:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-43800
As said on the page, I made sure that I had the newest Access connections installed (5.30).
When I press FN-F5 i only see the Bluetooth connection, and not the wireless device.
    Any ideas solve this problem?
The other problem (and I am assuming that the problems might be connected) is that my x31 laptop is autodetected as the unknown type: 'TP-1-Q___'. This is done by the program at the support homepage, and by the system update program (which makes it totally unusable )
Are there any way of changing this ID for the right type (2672-NG9)?
    Kind regards

Ok... last mail from me today...
The status is that my wireless Intel 2100 network card, won't run together with Access Connections. If Access Connections isn't installed, the wirelless card functions great together with the windows Zero Configuration Service, but when i install and launch AC, my wireless card disappears from windows (XP-pro by the way).
To get it work agian, i uninstall AC and reinstall the Intel driver (this often result in a new number for the wireless conection)
I have installed the newest version of Access Connnections, Power Management and Hotkey services.
I have surfed the net and found other people reporting the same problem with this card, and a thinkpad, but no solutions that worked for me yet:
    http://thitiv.blogspot.com/2006/05/ibm-thinkpad-t41-access-connection-not.html

Looking forward to hear from a Access Connection Expert!
    Kind regards Anders

  • More on wireless problems with 10.4.8+

There has been much said and discussed about wireless problems with the Macbook's with 10.4.8+ updates, both the C1D and the C2D macbooks have seen problems with a number of units.
Unfortunately, it is very hard to find real information on this website, because the forum is drowned in "wireless problems!" posts from people that have not read the previous posts.
Since there may be several unrelated wireless problems around, I'll try to specify my particular problem and add in solid information, so others can check if their system behaves like mine.
    First. The symptoms:
    1. The Macbook does not connect to WEP or WPA networks after sleep or being shut down.
    2. The Wireless icon blinks between black and grey.
    3. The Apple support information about deleting all networks and keychains WORKS, but only until next sleep or shut down. Afterwards the procedure has to be done again to connect (very annoying).
    4. This may be unrelated, but Keychain Access crashes on startup and can only be run in Rosetta.
First, we need to establish a few things
    1. The problem is real and is not limited to a particular Access Point (I have had problems with both a D-link 624+ and now a Netgear DG834GT from Sky Broadband.
    2. The problem exists with 10.4.8 and 10.4.9 but not with 10.4.6 or 10.4.7. This I have tested multiple times.
    3. It really does not matter if I use WEP or WPA.
Now. /var/log/system.log does actually output an awful lot of stuff during this.

So I get the same problems with a D-link DGL-4300,
after every sleep I need to reset the router to get
thw wireless working again. I really need a solution
    for this.
For me, resetting the router does not work, only removing network from Airport preferences and re-adding it. Have you confirmed that this is indeed the same issue by looking what gets printed to /var/log/system.log?
To show the output, do the following from the terminal
    sudo cat /var/log/system.log
This prints the contents of the log-file to the terminal window.

  • Best way to install on a Dell Mini 9?

Hello, I'm giving arch a try again, this time on a Dell Mini 9. This machine has an 8GB SSD of which about 5GB is filled with Windows XP. I also have a 16GB sdhc card in the machine, not currently dedicated. There are two possible ways to boot: from the SSD or from a USB flash drive. The problem is that I don't want to boot with USB because I don't want a flash drive hanging off the side all the time. Unfortunately I cannot boot from the SDHC card.
Ideally I'd like to put most of arch on the sdhc but rig some other way to get through the boot process. One idea that occurs to me is to shrink the ntfs partition a bit and put an arch /boot partition on the SSD. I already have the grub loader set up to boot puppy linux (which resides in a directory on the C: drive) so it would just be another entry in the menu.lst. So, if I do that, do I just copy the stuff in the /boot directory from the arch USB flash install, down to that partition? Will that do it for me? Then everything else from arch runs off the sdhc card?
Only problem I see is the low performance of this card, even though I bought the fastest one I could find. Maybe I should just spring for a new, larger SSD and put arch in another partition in it.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks for the tip.
I decided to get rid of the Dell Utility partition on the SSD (about 55MB) and use that space for /boot. I also figured out my difficulty about using the flash drive for holding the iso, a little different than in Puppy land so I was temporarily confused about it. Anyway I tried the install and got errors with grub install, something to do with /boot/grub/menu.lst (also a "vercmp" command used in a few packages, but that was not the killer).
Unfortunately I did not have access to any alternative consoles as the Dell Mini 9 does not have any dedicated Fn keys (they are in the asdf... row). If I press Alt-Fn-s for example, to get another console, the screen just goes black and I cannot get back to where I was. So anyway I just stopped the install with the power button. This apparently killed the partition on the sd card I was installing to, and I can't fsck it back to life. So I can't access the install log any more either (I'm assuming it is in /var/log somewhere).
I did look at /boot/grub and there is an empty menu.lst file there; can't guess what the problem was with it. And e2fsck cleaned /boot up OK.
Well, I have other work to do for a while so I will come back to this in a few days.

  • [Solved] Dell Mini 10: no screens found

    Hello people,
First time Arch user here, but not new to Linux.
Installing Arch Linux went without any problems on my Dell Mini 1010. But for the last 3 days I'm trying to get X working.
I have used to following pages trying to get it to work:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dell_Mini_10v
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel_Graphics
    http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Dell_Ins … /xorg.conf
All without any luck. The error log can be found here:
    http://pastebin.ca/2360086
That is without an xorg.conf and with addition of:
    /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-gpudriver.conf
    Section "Device"
            Identifier "Card0"
            Driver     "intel"
    EndSection
lsmod shows the i915 modules are loaded.
Also I tried the vesa driver, but that gives me a flashing blue / black screen and the laptop needs to be hard rebooted.
Anyone know what I'm missing? Or maybe someone with the same laptop willing to share their Xorg config?
    Thanks!

Your hardware would be nice to know, so post the output of lspci -nn. A quick google tells me you have Poulsbo graphics. If that's the case, you're screwed. You have two options: the simple one - install xf86-video-modesetting; and the not-simple one - the EMGD driver. You will probably not succeed with the not-simple one.
