With ITunes in Windows Vista, I've attempted to drag and drop a homemade video folder from my Desktop to ITunes on the PC in order to transfer it to my IPad (as per instructions), but it doesn't show up in my ITunes library. What else should I be doing?

Do you have any videos/movies in the video app?
In iTunes if you right click on the video and select Get Info and go to the Option tap what Media Type is shown?

Again, please tell us what operating system your computer is running - the model number of the computer does not tell us anything other than it's not a Mac - and the version of iTunes which can find under the Help menu -> About iTunes.
As to posting a screen shot, if you wish to do so, reply to a message, click the "camera" icon in the reply toolbar, and select the image you wish to post.

Why can't I drag and drop music from a folder on my PC into my iTunes window?
I have not found any article that has answered this question. They have come up with things like open the side bar and it will work, or you are using wrong format of music. Now this all happened when I upgraded to iTunes 10 and has not worked since and it worked fine before. Music format is correct, I have even gone as far as copying a file already in iTunes and trying to add it again. As soon as the files enters the frame of iTunes the music files icon the pointer is carrying turns into a circle with a slash through it.
ITunes Ver. is 11.1.5.5 Windows Ver. is Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center
Files I have tried adding are standard MP3, 256 kbps purchased AAC Audio file, MP3 converted by iTunes into a 256 or 320 kbps AAC Audio file. None can be draged and droped but all can added by going to File/Add File to Library... or File/Add Folder to Library...

1. Drag a file or folder from the desktop to the iTunes window.If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.
2. In iTunes, choose File > Add to Library, locate a file or folder, and click Open.
I can add files and folders by doing number 2 above but can not doing number 1
I have gone as far as uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling per apple procedures below.
Steps
1. Remove iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and restart your computer:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended effects.

I had this problem on Windows 8.1.1 and iTunes 11.2.2.3
To resolve it from within Itunes I did : Edit, Preferences, Sharing.
I took the tick out of "Share my library on my local network"
Click OK.
Closed iTunes/
Reopened iTunes and I can drag and drop.
I went back into Edit, Preferences, Sharing and put the tick back and clicked OK.
Works fine now.

Force Quit .
Press command + option + esc keys together at the same time. Wait.
When Force Quit window appears, select the Safari if not already.
Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window. Wait.
Safari will quit.
Relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.

I can export many iphoto events to a Data stick. I want to do the same with a DVD. When I do the DVD window is blank. If I drag and drop can only do one. Help

I can "export", using file, many iphoto events to a data disk. When I do the same to a DVD the DVD window is blank and nothing has been exported. When I use drag and drop to a DVD it works but I can only get one event on the disk. How do I export many iphoto events to a DVD. I am using a write only DVD. I am using a Mac Book Pro OS 10. When I click on the data stick icon on my desk top a window comes up. It lists the various events that I have exported. If i click on an event each picture shows up in a list. I can click on the picture and view a jpeg photo or view a avi video. When I export I select "original" as the file type. When I export to a DVD and klick on the the DVD icon the window shows up but it is blank.

After installing iTunes 10.5.1, I can no longer drag and drop files into iTunes. Any suggestions?

just want to add my annoyance to the pile here. I can't see any logic behind removing the drag and drop function, especially when adding a new folder is now a multi-step process that is far from obvious. to start a new playlist with local folder content you now need to:enter settingsclick into advanced settings (basically all settings now seem to be "advanced"?)manually find and add the foldergo through the adventure of finding the files in your library.

If the file is a correctly formatted AAC file with the .m4r file extension and less than 40 seconds long, then iTunes should put it into the Tones section of the library and move it into the Tones folder inside your media folder.
I've just checked the current version of iTunes behaves as I've desribed, which it does for me at least.
You may need to have some tones in your library for the tones tab to display when the device is connected.

There is absolutely NO way to drag and drop newly purchased music from the Purchased list on the phone into my iTunes library? I'm finding it hard to believe that something so simple cannot be done!

I like to make MP3 CD's when I have people over, or when my friends have people over so I can just pop them into the CD player and let them play all night without having to worry about changing the CD or anything. Well, Apple's music is in AAC format, so I have to convert the songs to MP3 files using the converter in iTunes. So I'll convert them to MP3's and just delete the AAC file so I don't have doubles. The problem is, the next time I plug the phone into my laptop to transfer new purchases, iTunes thinks that the songs I converted aren't there anymore because the phone has them as AAC files, and iTunes has them as MP3 files, so it doubles the music again...EVERY time!! It's very frustrating! So this is why instead of clicking Transfer Purchases, I would like to be able to just drag and drop the songs I want from the Purchased list on the phone into my iTunes library. I hope I explained this right...lol. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like I'm able to do that. I'm hoping maybe somebody here can help me out and give me some pointers on what to do about this. That stinks! I can actually do that at my house...I just plug my iPhone right into the wire that's plugged into my receiver in my living room...but some of my friends aren't "technology savvy"...lol...so they just have DVD players and I'll put the CD in there because it will read an MP3 disc. What's funny, is I have the phone set to "Manually Manage Music", and when I plugged it into the laptop just now, the one song I downloaded last night on the phone, transferred over to the iTunesl library. That NEVER happens. And it only transferred the one song...it didn't double the other songs like it ususally does. I swear, iTunes does what it wants, when it wants sometimes...lol. However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

I am running WIN7 64Bit and have recently lost the ability to drag files from any windows folder to anywhere in iTunes (playlists, tones, etc.). Is anyone else having this issue??

I am running iTunes 10.6 on Win7 and it is working as normal, i.e. if you drag a song file from a Windows folder into an open playlist, iTunes adds the song both to that playlist and to the library.
Pls provide a few more details about what is not working for you, and perhaps someone here can help.

On itunes on my computer I put all my songs into the right albums and cover art on the albums but it doesn't show up that way on my ipod

On itunes on my computer I took the time to sort my songs put them by the correct artists and albums and got all the cover art for it but when i go to put it that way on my iPod it doesn't work that way? Why is it showing multiple albums for the same album and no cover art for some albums and unknown artists for the artist? It says differently on Itunes on my computer.

You can only watch the movie on the device you rented it on. Here's a snippet from the Apple Support site (italics mine):
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

Maybe you should read the manual:
iPhone User Guide (For iOS 5.0 Software)
If you want to drag and drop, then check the Manually manage music box. Otherwise sync your content.

Windows 7 64bit iTunes 11.1.4 Up Next Drag and Drop Problem

OS: Windows 7 64bit
iTunes version; 11.1.4
Problem: In the normal iTunes window dragging and dropping songs in the Up Next menu gives no real-time feedback of items being moved or the list being scrolled. If I attempt to drag and drop then the window updates itself as if it had scrolled, but I get no visual feedback during this process.
I can confirm that Up Next operates as expected while using the Mini Player (either reduced or expanded), but the main window does not.

Doublechecking. Do you still get that particular issue if you update to iTunes version 11.1.5.5.
