Wizard simulation in oracle forms

Please Any One Can Help :
I work in a project and one of the forms that requested is a wizard that guide the user to complete some data entries.
can this be done in oracle forms ?
I use Oracle forms 10 g . Any Ideas Please

Hi
can this be done in oracle forms ? yesss
What canvas type is better for my situation : stacked canvas ?pls use 1 content canvas which is ur main canvas then build ur stacked canvases say 3 stacked canvases
then build ur database blocks selecting the canvases within the suitable block for each
u can earlier or later create buttons ,NEXT,BACK,FINISH design time and build up ur triggers which will fire them using...
SHOW_VIEW('CANVAS_NAME') ;  -- Show the Stacked Canvas in NEXT button...
GO_ITEM ('Item_Name'); -- Go to the stacked canvas item ; should be navigable and visible in ur stacked canvas
HIDE_VIEW('CANVAS_NAME'); -- hide the original current canvas in synchronize
--- do this for each NEXT button all the rest depends upon ur needs...Hope this helps...

    What do you mean here - you want to extend the Forms Builder with your own wizard, or you want to build a Forms Application with a Wizard Style interface?
    If it's the First then you can't, if it's the second then check out the 9i demos there is a re-usable wizard component that shows you how to do it.

  • Developering ADF form in query mode (Oracle forms simulation)

    Hi,
    we have a requirement for developing the existing Oracle form using Oracle ADF. The existing Oracle form displays the form in query mode by default. We can enter the search criteria in any of the text fields and then execute query to get the results. If the user does not enter any search criteria, then the form loads specific record based on default criteria into the form. Could you please help developing similar form using ADF.
    At present I created the view object with one bind variable and dragged the view as ADF form to the jspx page. Then I am launching the form in query mode (executing the find method on the view object using operation binding at the time of loading the page). After entering the query criteria in the form, If I click on a button I am executing a method in the managed bean. In the managed bean I am executing the "Execute" operation on the view and it is working fine.
    But my problem is if the user does not enter the search criteria I have to pass default parameters to the view object and return the default record in the form.
    Can you please help in resolving the issue.
    Thanks and Regards,
    S R Prasad

    Hi Frank,
    Thank you for providing information. I created the query panel with the table by dragging all the named criteria. But this is not the look we are expecting for this form. As we have to deveop ADF form with the same behavior as oracle forms, the user must be in a position to edit the data in the same field as that of query field.
    As an example, we have to design a form for Dept table. We have to display all the columns of the dept view in the form at the time of launching the form in query mode. Once the user enters any search criteria in the form, we have to perform search and display the record(s) matching the query criteria in the same columns displayed in the form. User should not see any changes in the form layout.
    If the user does not enter any data in the form, then we have to display the record(s) in the form with the specific department id(This department id can be calculated based on the data in another table).
    Can you please help us in resolving the issue.
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Oracle Forms New Features - Your input.  Supporting data types

    I am interested to know IF we were to support any new database types in Oracle Forms 11g, which types would you like supported and why. I'd also like to know if you are currently working around the absence of a database type.
    Please note, this is not any kind of commitment to support new data types in Oracle Forms applications but we are interested to know if there is demand and if so, for what types.
    Thanks
    Grant Ronald
    Oracle Forms Product Management
    p.s lets keep the thread focused on the topic so please don't post technical questions or comments about different new features - if you want to, start a new thread - thanks

    Hi Grant,
    support for the "new" - well they exists since 9iR1 ... 2001 - data types TIMESTAMP, TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE, TIMESTAMP WITH LOCAL TIME ZONE, INTERVAL YEAR TO MONTH and INTERVAL DAY TO SECOND would be very helpful.
    Currently it's not possible to use the Data Block Wizard to create a data block for table/view that contains one of these columns.
    (In Forms Builder 10.1.2.3 it fails with a strange error message ... iewbdbc_oracle_to_id ... C:\forms\101220\src\ie\iewbdb.c:724 ...)
    So, one has to create the data block and the items manually. The items have to be CHARS.
    Then forms is able to fetch and display these columns. The user can edit them as normal.
    A WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM trigger can be used to make sure that the implicit conversion from CHAR to the "new" datatype works.
    For example, an INTERVAL YEAR TO MONTH column (b):
    declare
      l_invalid_interval exception;
      pragma exception_init(l_invalid_interval, -1867);
      l_invalid_month exception;
      pragma exception_init(l_invalid_month, -1843);
      l_dummy interval year(9) to month;
    begin
      l_dummy := to_yminterval(:block2.b);
    exception
      when l_invalid_interval
      then
        message('invalid interval');
        raise form_trigger_failure;
      when l_invalid_month
      then
        message('invalid month');
        raise form_trigger_failure;
      when others
      then
        message(error_text);
        raise form_trigger_failure;
    end;This nasty trick works for most of the "new" datatypes except with TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE.
    In Forms 10.1.2.3 the following WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM trigger can (incorrectly!) fail:
    declare
      l_dummy timestamp with time zone;
    begin
      l_dummy := to_timestamp_tz(:block2.a);
    end;It fails with "ORA-01804: failure to initialize timezone information", if the time zone is not like "-11:00", but like "EUROPE/PARIS". Don't know why...
    If we recode our trigger to make a round-trip to the database, it works:
    declare
      l_dummy timestamp with time zone;
    begin
      select to_timestamp_tz(:block2.a)
      into   l_dummy
      from dual;
    end;We could avoid these tricks, if Forms (and Reports) would support these type natively.
    Thanks, Michael
    PS: The TIMESTAMP and INTERVAL data types should of course be supported as items, parameters, globals and record groups columns.

    In addition to Craig's feedback consider the following:
    If you did not read the system requirements and installation guide, you likely will have problems.
    http://docs.oracle.com/html/E25460_01/r2_fr_requirements.htm
    <blockquote>1. Does your machine have a static IP address and/or the Windows Loopback adapter installed and configured?
    2. You indicated that you have 2gig of RAM. This is the minimum requirement just to install the product. It is very unlikely that you will be able to comfortably use the product with 2gig of RAM. Likely the performance will be so slow that processes will timeout before they can successfully start. You can actually see this occurring already - look carefully at the log info you posted.
    Further, if you are also attempting to run an 11g database on the same machine, this will never happen. Having only 2gig of RAM will never support running the DB and the components of FMw, and the Operating System.</blockquote>

  • Oracle forms 10G -Version 10.1.2.0.2 will it support timestamp data type ?

    Hi all,
    We are having database server - oracle 10g enterprise edition R2,
    forms - Oracle forms 10G -Version 10.1.2.0.2 on windows 2000 professional.
    We have created a table which has a column of type "timestamp",the following is the structure.
    CREATE TABLE  "STOCK_AREA_MASTER"
            (     "STOCK_AREA_CODE"     NCHAR(5)       NOT NULL    ENABLE,
                  "STOCK_AREA_DESC"     NVARCHAR2(40)  NOT NULL    ENABLE,
                  "RECORD_STATUS"       CHAR(1)        DEFAULT 'A',
                  "USER_ID"             NVARCHAR2(20)  DEFAULT USER,
                  "TIMESTAMP"           TIMESTAMP (6)  DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)
    [\code]
    We  tried to invoke this table(stock_area_master) using database block wizard in forms 10g,we were expecting to see the columns in this table,but we got the following error
    FRM -10095 - Assertion failed
    on seeing the forms help for the error FRM-10095,We are getting the following message
    FRM-10095: Assertion failed in %s, at %s:%d. Cause:  An internal inconsistency was detected. Action:  Contact an Oracle support representative, and proceed with caution
    We have the following concerns.
    1.) is it possible to have datatype "timestamp" in forms 10g,our researches show that we can manipulate using datatime datatype in forms,our requirement is have to precision of 6 digits(millisecond - format - dd/mm/rr hh24:mi:ss:ssss),we are able query and view precision to the tune dd/mm/rr hh24:mi:ss:ssss,but we are unable to insert/update to this precision.
    We would appreciate if some one could throw some light on the above.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Mohan,
    Hm. Strange.
    I have reproduced the problem in my environment.
    I have also found, that building the block manually, seems to work, as long as you define the item with datatype Char in Form Builder. Inserts and updates using a value like "22-AUG-06 11:10:11,647354 AM" worked fine for the timestamp item.
    You may want to enforce some dateformat. I don't know whether that will work.
    Good Luck!

  • Help: stored procedure for oracle forms

    Hi,
    I am working on a form with data block based on stored procedures. Here is the question:
    On a data block based on simple query, where insert a new record is taking care of by oracle form. That is create_record will do the job.
    When the data block is based on stored procedures, select, update, insert and delete will have to based on the data block created by the ref curcor. How to call the stored procedure from form to create a new record?
    I attempted to write something like:
    PROCEDURE sample_insert
    data_block IN OUT some_refcurcor) IS
    BEGIN
    insert into some_table values
    (data_block.field1, data_block.field2.....);
    commit;
    END;
    I am not quit sure how this works, as would create_record buildin will work to clean up the FORM data block and allow user to enter data and when and how the sample_insert will be called to make this work? Or how the same effect will work out as none stored procedure would do. New data eventually get into the designated table.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Jimmy
    Correction: (data_block IN OUT some_refcurcor) should be (data_block IN OUT some_table) and some_table is a record type etc..

    Hello,
    there are two kinds of output from a stored procedure which can be used in a forms block:
    - ref cursor
    - table of records
    The easiest way is to use a ref cursor. Use a strongly typed one,
    so that you can see the columns in the block wizard.
    A table of records is used when you also want to insert, update and so on.
    There is a not on metalink note for this ( 66887.1 ).

  • How to connect to SQL server 2000 with Oracle Form

    Hi,
    I'm looking for the document of how to connect "SQL Server 2000" with Oracle Form 6i. Anyone knows that?

    Shay or other knowledgeable folks,
    Is there a way to utilize the wizard for "Business Tier > ADF Business Components > Business Components from Tables" for SQL Server 2000, 2005 or 2008. I can successfully execute sql via java programmatically or import a table from SQL Server with "Business Tier > ADF Business Components > Entity Object" wizard, but the Business Components from Tables simply doesn't see any tables under any schema. Without the "Business Components from Tables", i don't get the referential constraints imported into the application and to code all those from scratch is just not as elegant. So far i have only utilized the sql server jdbc driver from Microsoft (versions, 1.1, 1.2 and 2.0). Is there an alternative client that i need to use to enable selecting tables from that "Business Components from Tables" wizard. Is this a limitation of SQL Server, the jdbc driver or the wizard itself? Did anybody else experience the same issues? I am using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.0.1 against SQL Server 2005 (currently)

  • Transaction Process in oracle forms

    Hello Experts,
                          I am new in Oracle forms and reports.I am using oracle forms 11g with weblogic server 10.3.5 at windows 7 platform.
    I have 3 tables: Table A,table B,table C. there are some insert commands for table B and table C in a button say SAVE in oracle form.I have also an update command for Table A.
    Button SAVE has code : insert into Table B; insert into Table C; update table A; If updating into table A is successful then all changes would be commited. If update command for Table A is unsuccessful Then all changes in database would be rollbacked. For this I have tried to use transaction but there is no support for autonomous transaction in oracle froms as my search. please help me how to do this. Thank You regards aaditya.

    Why are you manually writing the DML statements to insert and update your tables?  Did you use the Forms DataBlock Wizard when you created your datablocks?  If not, I recommend you use the Wizard.  Oracle Forms is tightly integrated with the Oracle database.  This means Forms will perform a lot of the things you would normally have to write yourself; such as the SQL Statements to display data (SELECT), add new records (INSERT) or modify (UPDATE) and delete (DELETE) a record.
    If you need to perform a ROLLBACK, understand that when you clear a block and don't save, Forms will automatically perform a ROLLBACK and release any locks it may have placed on a table/row.  Additionally, if you need to explicitly perform a rollback, you can do this when you call the CLEAR_FORM() built by passing "FULL_ROLLBACK" to the "rollback_mode" parameter.  For example: CLEAR_FORM(NO_VALIDATE, FULL_ROLLBACK);
    If you must perform an Autonomous Transaction from Forms, the best and really only way to do this would be to create a Database Procedure that invokes the AUTONOMOUS TRANSACTIONS PRAGMA then call this procedure from your Form.
    If you absolutely must write your own DML in your Form, then you can check the FORMS_SUCCESS system variable to see if the previous command executed successfully. Using Priyasagi's example, modify the code as follows:
    DECLARE
      n_success NUMBER := 0;
    BEGIN
    insert into table_b
    IF ( FORMS_SUCCESS) THEN
      n_success := n_success + 1;
    END IF;
    insert into table_c
    IF (FORMS_SUCCESS) THEN
      n_success := n_success +1;
    END IF;
    update table_a
    IF (FORMS_SUCCESS) THEN
      n_success := n_success +1;
    END IF;
    IF ( n_success =3 ) THEN
    commit;
    ELSE
      CLEAR_FORM(NO_VALIDATE, FULL_ROLLBACK);
    END IF:

  • What would you recommend me to do in Oracle Form Builder as a beginnner?

    I am a beginner in Oracle Form Builder and can anyone recommend a list of tasks/assignments I could try as I barely any projects at work currently ?
    I have been able to query items in a database(table) by creating a control/dummy block. What list of tasks would you suggest me to do next ? Any complex type of forms I could try ?
    Thanks.

    If you have created a dummy/control block, I would recommend that you create a new block based on a database table. Use the block wizard.
    Then a further block based on a table that is a "child" or "detail" table for the one you just created. use the block wizard.
    Then create a list of values (using the LOV Wizard) to populate one or more of the fields in your block - preferably using a SQL statement to get the contents of the LOV.
    You could then try creating a calculated item to add up values in one of your blocks.
    Then try creating a "when validate item" trigger on one of your items to try to enforce some validation rules. Display any error messages using an Alerti (don't bother with the "message" function in Forms - it's rubbish).
    That should be enough to be going on with.
    Good luck.

  • Wizard generated Master-Detail form issues

    The wizard-generated master/detail forms have several severe usability issues when the "Choose Layout" option is set to "Builder master detail with: edit detail as tabular form on same page".
    Some of these issues are:
    - The form has two Apply Changes buttons, one to save the master row and one to save the detail row. Users find this very confusing. If you save the master row changes, any changes to the detail rows are lost and vice versa.
    - The form has two Delete buttons, one to delete the master row and one to delete the checked detail rows. Users find this confusins also. Clicking the lower delete button discards any other changes that were made.
    - The Add Row button also discards any other changes that were made.
    The first two issues are easily fixed. With a few simple changes to the generated page, I can make it so there is a single "Apply Changes" button that 1) saves any changes to the master row, 2) saves any changes to detail rows and 3) deletes any checked detail rows.
    I cannot figure out how to solve the third issue (that the add row button discards any changes). I can make it so the "Add Row" button saves the changes, but this isn't user friendly either; I don't think any changes should be comitted unless the user specifically presses 'Apply Changes'.
    So far, I thought of several ways to possibly fix this but can't get any of them to work. Some of the ideas were:
    1. The 'Add Row' button could run the automatic row processing and MRU processes, but not do a commit untill/unless Apply Changes is pressed. I don't think this is feasible because http is stateless and connection pooling may be used, so we can't have a transaction that spans http requests.
    2. Move the Add Row process to page rendering so that the detail table always has an empty "add row" row thereby making the Add Row button unnecessary. I tried this, but it looks like the add row process was designed to run during the page processing, not during rendering, and it fails with a divide by 0 error when it is run during page rendering.
    3. Use client-side DHTML (instead of the HTML DB add row process) to add an empty row to the html table (i.e. add row button does not do a submit, it is handled entirely on the client). I tried this, but the MRU process fails because it doesn't expect the added row.
    If anyone has any other ideas on how to fix this problem, they would be greatly appreciated.
    HTML DB solves this problem in the SQL workshop create table wizard.
    In HTML DB 1.6, the "Add Column" button does a submit but somehow saves any changes that were entered.
    In HTML DB 2.0 beta, client-side DHTML is used (my approach 3 above).
    Can someone from Oracle share how the HTML DB create table wizard solves this problem?

    Eric,
    Thanks for your feedback. I’ll add your suggestions to our list of tabular form enhancement request.
    The wizard generates a regular form for the master record and a tabular form for the detail records. As you pointed out, it’s quite easy to customize this to your individual needs.
    Unlike regular forms, there’s currently no session state concept for tabular forms, so you either need to write your data to the database, or you will loose any changes if you e.g. paginate. For the same reason, the “Add Row” button and the associated process is generated so that any changes are saved to the database before adding a new row. Of course the MRU process that is executed on “Add Row” can be removed, if that is the preferred behavior.
    A work around would be to code the DML processes for tabular forms manually, and temporary store the data in HTML DB collections to simulate a stateful behavior.
    In HTML DB 2.0 we started adding DHTML features, such as the create table wizard you’re referring to. Some features, like the pull down menus, will be available to be used in your own applications. Other features, like the DHTML tabular form, won’t be available for custom applications in 2.0.

    Marc

  • Starting Learning Oracle Form Developer

    Hi Experts,
    i m oracle dba. i wan to start learning Oracle Form Developer 10g . please any one can share documentation that can help me out to start this domain.
    regards,

    Is there a particular reason you are starting with an old version and not the latest (11.1.2.0)? Version 10.1.2 will begin its end of life cycle at the end of this year. Meaning, Error Correction Support will end. Learning with the newest version will give you the advantage of working with the latest features and a more stable version.
    At any rate.... how easy it will be to learn will all depend on your current skill set and your prior experience with other development tools. I would suggest you first get a basic understand of how Forms works before you start to build an application. Building an application in Forms is mostly easy because the more common features are wizard driven. However, understand what to do once you create an app might take a little more thought and an understanding of basic web principles.
    The version 10 documentation (mostly related to deployment) can be found here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/documentation/techlisting10gr2-093389.html
    Here you will find many white papers which include everything from complex concepts to basic product overviews.
    You can access similar content for all of the recent versions from the top page located here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/overview/index.html
    The Forms Builder help is a good place for design time information.
