WLAN connection: authentication through captive po...

Access to some Wifi hotspots requires an authentication through captive portal (ID and password must be entered on a special web page). Everything works on my E65 except that I did not find the method to avoid to retype my ID and password every time I try to connect. Any idea ?

Hello,
I've a e61i and I experience a similar problem. My phone work very well on WiFi network with no encryption as well as 64-bit wep.
At home I've 2 wireless routers, both encrypted at 128 bits, one with WEP and the other with WPA. On both of them I can correctly obtain an IP thru DHCP, but the traffic do not go thru.
By using IfInfo I think I discovered the reason of the problem (unless IfInfo is not working properly...) and it seems a bug related to the netmask, broadcast and gateway settings. The router is 192.168.15.1 and this is what I get:
1) DHCP case -- I get two IP adresses: the 169.254.x.x and the one assigned to the router. DNS is also set properly, but both gateway, broadcast and netmask are set to 0.0.0.0 for both IPs.
IP Addr: 169.254.162.106
Netmask: 0.0.0.0
Broadcast: 0.0.0.0
Gateway: 0.0.0.0
DNS1: 192.168.15.1
IP Addr: 192.168.15.100
Netmask: 0.0.0.0
Broadcast: 0.0.0.0
Gateway: 0.0.0.0
DNS1: 192.168.15.1
2) Static IP 192.168.15.64, netmask set to 255.255.255.0 and gateway and DNS set to 192.168.15.1. The 169.254.x.x disappears and I get only one IP which is set to:
IP Addr: 192.168.15.64
Netmask: 0.0.0.0
Broadcast:192.168.15.255
Gateway: 192.168.15.1
DNS1: 192.168.15.1
So in conclusion, it seems that with 128bit encryption, in the DHCP case gateway, broadcast and netmask are not assigned correctly! While in the Static IP case the netmask is still not assigned correctly!!!
Hope this can help...

  • 802.1x Win7 Popup box - Netsh wlan connect - VBscript

    Hello,
Is there a way to programatically pop up the sign in/authentication box for a user who connects to a 802.1x access point via NetSh?
The "netsh wlan connect name=<profile name>" command works great for kicking off the connection from a vbscript.   I'd just like to put a little polish on the process by poping up the actual authentication box for the user.  That way I
can avoid having to rely on the user to manually click the popup message from the sys tray.
A lot of information and walk throughs have been published on how to find the and use the popup message box.  I wonder if anyone else has had any luck with this subject or not.  Perhaps if I could find the name of the application that runs the popup
I could grant it focus and force the popup.
Any tricks or advice is appreciated.

The answer depends on how the user is running the Netsh command.  I get an automatic authentication popup on Win7 by placing the Netsh command in a batch file, and then by running the batch from from a VBS using the RunAs argument of ShellExecute function.
This may be a little late to help you, but someone else may benefit from it.  Here's an example:
    Filename: OpenHailingFrequency.vbs
    Dim Args
    Args="/c {Drive}:{\pathToBatchFile}\openHailingFrequency.bat"
    Set oApp=CreateObject("Shell.Application")
    oApp.ShellExecute "cmd", Args, , "runas", 1
    #Filename: OpenHailingFrequency.bat
    @echo off
    netsh wlan connect name=MyWirelessConnectionName interface="MyInterfaceName"
I simply create a desktop or menu shortcut to OpenHailingFrequency.vbs.  It opens a DOS cmd window and runs the batch file, requesting permission first.

  • N95 WLAN Connection problems - Orange Livebox (UK)

I am trying to get the N95 to connect to the internet wirelessly through Orange Livebox (UK). I have run the WLAN wizard and the phone has identified it. I have input the WEP key and thats worked fine.......except everytime I try to connect to the net via this method I get a connection error. Has anybody else had WLAN connection problems? Can anybody help?

    hi,
did you press "1" button at the back of the Livebox before pairing ?
what kind of error message do you get on the N95 ?
does it fail the same way when you go through the homescreen "WiFi scanning / Start Web Browsing" or through Tools / WLAN Wizard ?

  • N91 WLAN Connection Issue

Sorry if this has already been answered but I can't find the answer.
I've got an N91 and I'm trying to connect to my private Wireless Router. I've got a 128 bit WEP key but when I try to type it into the phone, I'm only allowed to enter 13 characters. The key is twice this length.
How am I to enter the full key?
    Am I missing something here?
    Thanks in advance,

Well I use the N91 with WEP security using either Open or Shared key at 128 bit or 64 bit with no problems.
Remember that you need to use Tools->Settings->Connection and create a new access point.
    - In Data Bearer select WLAN
    - WLAN Network Name (ID) type in your WLAN hotspot name (SID)
    - Network status (Public or Hidden depending on your router settings)
    - Network mode (Must be Infrastructure)
    - Security Mode (Enter wither WEP or WPA) I only use WEP
    - Go into the Security Settings: Select the Key in use (#1 to #5 and it MUST be the same one as in your WLAN router)
    - Authentication type (Must be Open or Shared) Shared Key is more secure. This setting must match the one in your WLAN router!
    - Select WEP (or WPA) settings:
    - Select encryption type (64, 128 bits) again it must match your router settings
    - Select the type of Key in use (I use ASCII since it's easier for me to remember the keys) but it can be in HEX as well. Use the same thing as your router. Enter the key in the box below.
I've tested this in many WLAN networks in the office and at home and never had any problems. I've used all SW versions of N91 since the launch and it has always worked. If you have other questions let me know.
    One more thing.
When entering the WEP keys MAKE SURE that you enter the key in the right key number. Each WEP key ins in a different Tab (look below the connection name and you will see #1,#2,#3) use the joystick to select the right key (#2, #3, et c.) and enter the key (ASCII or HEX)
640K Should be enough for everybody

  • Satellite M70: WLAN connection lost

    Hello!
I have Satellite M70 and I use integrated Intel WLAN card 2200bg. I have the latest drivers downloaded from Toshiba web site and Asus WLAN router w520g with latest firmware. Connection signal is excellent but sometimes actually very often connection is lost for 5-10 seconds.... I am downloading files all the time so there is no idle time in network traffic.
How can I inspect what is reason for losting connection?
Could authentication method or channel mode be a reason for problems?

    Hi!
I updated my driver(latest one from intel website) and problem still exists. But now with Intel Wireless utility I can see error messages when connection goes down. I also opened support case to Intel about this problem. Let's see what they suggest.
I have also tested different kind of variations of configurations (power settings etc.) but no helps!
Now I am testing WLAN connection without authentication and it seems to work ok without connection lost. I will test different kind of authentication methods because i really want to see what authentication causes problems.
One thing I can say more. If I want to see connection break as soon as possible, I have to generete traffic with different kind of p2p programs and I also ping my router (default gateway) with command ping -t -l 1500 same time.

  • Satellite A100-003 WLAN connection timeout(with WPA-PSK)

I have a Satellite A100-003 notebook with preinstalled Windows Vista.
When I try connect to my router with WPA-PSK (TKIP) I have error:
Wireless authentication failed because of a timeout.
My notebook and router configurated correctly!! I installed new intel drivers for 3945ABG chip.
    WPA2-PSK and WEP work fine.

    Hi
The same happened on my old notebook.
I was not able to establish the WLan connection for longer than 1min with WPA encryption.
I have downloaded the newest Atheros driver and updated everything.
Everything works fine with WEP but not WPA.
Then I have disabled the Windows own configuration option and use the Atheros client utility. Now everything works fine!
I would recommend using the Intel Proset utility and check all possible settings!

  • How to do .1x port based network access authentication through ACS

How to do .1x port based network access authentication through ACS.

    Hi,
802.1x can authenticate hosts either through the username/password or either via the MAC address of the clients (PC's, Printers etc.). This process is called Agentless Network Access which can be done through Mac Auth Bypass.
In this process the 802.1x switchport would send the MAC address of the connected PC to the radius server for authentication. If the radius server has the MAC address in it's database, the authentication would be successful and the PC would be granted network access.
To check the configuration on the ACS 4.x, you can go to http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/cisco_secure_access_control_server_for_windows/4.1/configuration/guide/noagent.html

  • OBIEE 11.1.1.6.2 BP1 authentication through Shared Services EPM 11.1.2 .2

    Hi,
Any idea how to get the authentication in OBIEE through Shared Services to work?
We use Native Directory and MSAD in SS, hence we need to get the authentication through Shared Services.
We were able to run this on EPM 11.1.1.3 through LDAP server of Shared services port 28089, surely not working now.
I've tried both of the following but still no luck:

    Please help. Many thanks!!!
    Cheers,

    Hi Steve,
I have not been through this, but hope this helps you though. While we run the System configurator Wizard (EPM 11.1.1.2), we are now having an option to integrate EPM with OBIEE. Have you given it a shot?
I am just thinking, if we could had it configure for us, we could directly access the Subject Areas from OBIEE, just like what Mark had mentioned here : http://www.rittmanmead.com/2009/01/epm-workspace-111-and-obiee-10134-updated/
You could further look into the "SSO using CSS Token" field in the connection pool, too.
Hope this helps and I will let you know, if I have any other information.
    Thank you,

  • N80 "WLAN: WPA authentication failed"

    I have a N80 at 4.0623.0.41 (26/07/2006, RM-92, Nokia N80 63.01) branded (TIM-Italy). No further firmware upgrades are available (on 12-09-2007)
I would like to connect to my 802.1x academic network that uses certificate
I installed the certificate set up its reliability.
Then, I followed the indications found in this forum for EAP-PEAP setting up
    Data Bearer: Wlan
    Network status: Public
    Network Mode: Infrastructure
    Security mode: 802.1x
    Security Settings:
    WPA/WPA2: EAP
    EAP Plug In Settings:
    1. EAP-PEAP
    (other options disabled)
    EAP-PEAP:
    Personal Certificate: Not Defined
    Authority Certificate: IC root CA
    Username in use: User Defined
    Username: *****
    Realm in use: From certificate
    Realm: [blank]
    Allow PEAPv0: Yes
    Allow PEAPv1: NO
    Allow PEAPv2: NO
    EAPs:
    1:EAP-MSCHAPv2
    EAP-MSCHAPv2:
    Username: [entered correctly]
    Prompt password: Yes
    Password: [Entered correctly]
When I try to connect with these settings I get the following error message:
" WLAN: WPA authentication failed "
I tried also other unsuccessful variations such
    Allow PEAPv0: Yes
    Allow PEAPv1: YES
    Allow PEAPv2: YES)
The system admistrators suggested that the problem could be the certificate that is home-made and maybe it is not completely recognized by Symbian v9.1. But they don’t know how to fix the problem
Indeed I found two certificates from my institution (Root and Server), apparently identical, but the Root one is recognized while the other no.
Do you know what I should check inside the certificate to gain insights about the reasons of the authentication failure?
Is there any symbian network utility that could help to understand which step block the authentication?
    I will appreciate any suggestion
    Thank you in advance

WPA and EAP works great with the N80 - dont worry
I have tested and runs alot og Nokia Phones with WiFi and EAP etc.
    I currently uses a N80 fw 4.0707.0.7, and there are a v5 fw also.
I sugguest you get the 4.07
You subject informs about WPA but you have set your Security mode: 802.1x
    Change this to:
    Security mode: WPA/WPA2
    Then you should be good.
Also verify the status: hidden/public this is important
If you can see the SSID in the WLAN Wiz then its public SSID.
Try clearing the username in the certificate setup/PEAP
also try different comination of DOMAIN/USERNAME, DOMAIN\USERNAME, DOMAIN@USERNAME etc
But I would think that you do not need username in the GENERAL page under EAP-PEAP
You need username under EAP page/EAP-MSCHAPv2
I assume you have the certificate installed on the handset.

  • Is it possible to turn off "Internet Connect / Authentication Failed" msgs

Greetings and thank you for your time.
My network connect is set up to automatically connect wirelessly or through Ethernet...this is fine.
However, every time I open my notebook or start it up,
If my computer cannot connect through those two, (airport is off/no cable attached) it constantly sends the pop-up message: "Internet Connect / Authentication Failed". 3 times over a period of 15min.
Is there any way to turn this warning off ?
I am not trying to access a connection & Mail/Safari are closed.
It makes it frustrating when you arrive at a meeting to start a presentation and you keep getting this popup that blocks all functions till you acknowledge it and click "ok".
Any suggestions other then turning off auto connect (which I appreciate when I do turn on Airport or plug in an ethernet cable.
Thank you for any support on this.

Greetings T, and Welcome to the Discussions!
We just have to find what it is that's tying to connect/call home, and disable it.

I( was thinking more when I started, but the Berr is...
If all that fails, maybe get Little Snitch, it tells you when a program tries to send info to the internet so you can see what's going on in the background!

  • Internet Connect "Authentication Failed" message

    Hello,
I apologie if I am in the wrong forum. This was my best guess.
Can anyone explain what the Internet Connect "Authentication Failed" message means. I have recently tried installing a software package called "Notebook" on my eMac PowerMac running 10.4.9. The machine accesses the net through a dial-up connection. Whenever I install the software I am okay until I shut down the machine. After this is cannot access the internet until I completely uninstall all components of "Notebook" and reenter my Network/Internet Connect password and restart a couple times.
I have not encountered the problem running the same software on another Mac–an iMac Intel based running the same system but with a DSL connection.
The support people and user forum at the Notebook website have no ideas that seem to help.
I have never encountered this message in years of happy use of this machine in various places. Is it keychain related? Permissions? I have only a limited idea of how to troubleshoot these issues since they've never come up before.
Any help would be much appreciated. I really need to use the software both at work and at home to justify it's purchase.

  • EDQ authentication through Novell

We are currently using AD as our authentication platform for EDQ. We need to set up additional configurations for authentication through Novell. Has anybody done this? What is different from the AD configuration?
    Thanks
    Craig

    Hi Craig,
Apologies for the late response on this. I believe an SR has been logged, and a response will be available on the SR very shortly.
Some basic notes are as follows. The examples files are missing below (but will be on the SR):
EDQ does not have out of the box support for Novel eDirectory. However it can be configured easily. To do this, you need to define a ‘realm’ with connection details for the eDirectory server and an associated ‘profile’ defining the LDAP search filters and attributes to use with the eDirectory.
All this information can be added to the login.properties file but it is sometimes simpler to define the information in separate files. Realm information can be define in files in the realms subdirectory of the security directory and profile information can be stored in the profiles subdirectory.
    These are the steps:
    1. In the login.properties file, add a realm ‘edir’ to the realms list:
    realms = internal,...,edir
    2. Create a directory realms in the security directory and store the attached edir.properties there. Amend the file with:
    •     The LDAP server address. The example file has 10.8.1.182.
    •     The correct LDAP domain information. The example file users the domain o=rde
    •     The DN and password of the user used to connect to LDAP. The example has cn=rde,ou=users,o=rde
    •     The LDAP group used to contain EDQ users. The example has testgroup
    •     If the server has a certificate installed, uncomment the ‘ldap.security’ line to enable SSL connections
    3. Create a directory profiles in the security directory and save the attached novell.properties there. This file is suitable for a standard eDirectory setup and should not need any changes. It assumes:
    •     An objectClass of inetOrgPerson for users
    •     An objectClass of groupOfNames for groups
    •     The unique ID of user and group entries is the GUID attribute
The profile can be tweaked if these assumptions are not correct.

    Mike

  • AP541N-E-K9 keeps dropping all WLAN connections

I hope someone could shed some light on an issue we have with our AP541N-E-K9 on the latest firmware.
Our issue sounds similar to this thread:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2028334
Our AP541N-E-K9 keeps dropping all WLAN connections and will not allow us to connect via WIFI. I have to switch the unit off and on but even so sometimes it will take 10 mins for the WLAN to accept new connections. Nothing has changed on the network for months as it is a very basic scenario ie Draytek DSL Router -> Cat5e cable -> AP541N-E-K9, thats it! The AP is really only used for guest access and may have about 15 staff connected via WIFI at any one time.
    Thanks

    Hi Alena,
I've changed the access point to use channel 1 which seemed to work for about 5 mins and then all wireless devices have dropped off and the even log keeps showing:
