I'm not able to connect with any kind of encryption at all so the routers firewall is set to forward all from my laptops mac address and drop everything else. I'm not sure when this started to happen but I don't think it did this a few months ago (I know i've been lazy..).

Assuming the technician changed only the password and nothing else, this is how you change the password.
If you are using WEP encryption then Goto Settings>Connectivity>Destinations>Internet>Select your access Point>Wlan security settings>WEP key settings>WEP key>enter new pasword
If you are using WPA encryption then Goto Settings>Connectivity>Destinations>Internet>Select your access Point>Wlan security settings>pre-shared key>enter new password
If he changed other settings as well, you may be better off deleting that access point and setting it up from scratch again just like the first time.

    Hi,
did you get it working all right?
My understanding is that it shouldn't matter if you have more of them enabled in the phone. As long as the one which the server wants to use is configured properly, things should work out.
Did some quick browsing, you can check more info from here: Extensible Authentication Protocols

for months now I am suffering from the following problem:

If a connection is established pings (in the LAN) in the beginning are extremely high and after several seconds to minutes normalize themselves:

This happens with all sorts of with WLAN stations:
    public hotspots
    Airport Extreme
    UniFi systems
    mobile personal hotspots
    Aerohive
    etc.
So I doubt it is a configuration problem on the WLAN. Moreover I cannot reproduce this in the same environments with other Apple products (Macbook Air, iPhone). It happens with 10.9 and 10.10. Is there any idea what might be causing this? I have no USB3 attached. Yes bluetooth is on and I still have to figure out if it only happens in the 2.4Ghz band. However even if it is 2.4Ghz related again: Other systems operating on 2.4Ghz nearby do not have these problems. Moreover 802.11ac is working however even sitting 3m away from a suitable AC access point with direct line of sight does not guarantee me to get a AC connection. Somehow I suspect this to be a driver or even hardware problem.
    Kind regards,
      JP

Hello everyone, I have been trying all solutions to this problem with no success. Finally I tried downloading the driver from NVIDIA, this required me to allow NVIDIA to scan my system to find my proper driver. After finding and installing the new driver I had full control over brightness. I've been using my MBP for about a day and a half with no problems for the brightness. I hope this helps everyone.

  • Satellite A660 wireless can't work: how to turn on wireless switch?

The new laptop's wireless just stopped working. When I press Fn+f8 it tells me: Wireless Communication is Disabled. Please Turn on The Wireless Communication Switch.
I tried to disable and enable wireless, update network adapter's driver(Broadcom 802.11n and Realtec PCie FE family controller), and load default setup in Bios but nothing worked. The wireless button on top panel is on, and when I press the button, a window called thoshiba button support pop up and says: the button you pressed has not been configured. But this happens to other laptops too (we have 8 same type laptops), only this one can't use wirless. What can I do now?

    Hi
Please reinstall the Wlana driver and try again. (Don't update but uninstall the old driver, reboot the unit and install the new driver)
In most cases such Wlan troubles appears if the Wlan driver does not work correctly.
Since all other notebooks are ok, I think that this is a temporal issue in registry or something like that
PS: It can be possible that the FN buttons don't work corectly. THerefore you can reinstall the VAP (value added package) and Flash Card support Utility as well in order to reconfigure the FN buttons.

  • Trouble installing WLAN Driver on Satellite C850-1CW

I've had to reinstall the Windows that the laptop came with (I'm now on Windows 7) and so I need to find all the drivers myself. This one is proving to be a huge problem.
According to System Information the WLAN Card's PCI ID is
    PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV _8723&SUBSYS_072310EC&REV_00\4&13FD83EA&0&00E1
Which leads me to believe the WLAN Card is Realtek 8191SE. I went to Realtek website and even check other websites and tried downloading and installing every driver that seems to fit that card but none have worked and the Network Controller remains unrecognized.
    Any ideas?
(Bluetooth and Ethernet drivers installed with no problems, by the way)

  • Troubles with 3Com 3crshpw196 card (2.6.4) WLAN (solved)

hi, I finally mnaged to get arch (2.6.4-1  kernel) into my laptop without the use of floppy (its usb -so it cant load root), or cd-rom (stupid - cant boot from it)
what i did was that i put my laptop hd into my workstation, booted from cd and installed it on the little drive. then i put the hd back into my laptop and booted.. it works.. (almost..)
before i put the drive back into my laptop i did a pacman -Syu just to get things up to date.
    i then installed (with pacman) wireless_tools , wlan.ng , pcmcia-cs , and downloaded the driver from the http://atmelwlandriver.sourceforge.net/.
the reason for these packages is that i need my 3Com 3crshpw196 pcmcia card to work since  its the only way this pc can access anything (ultraportable without standard network  card).
"enabled" the pcmcia daemon in rc.conf
    cardctl ident gives me this:
    Socket 0:
product info: "3Com", "3CRSHPW_96 Wireless LAN PC Card"
    manfid: 0x0101, 0x0696
    function: 6 (network)
cat /var/lib/pcmcia/stab gives me this :
    Socket 0: unsupported card
    ifconfig -a gives me :
    lo   bla bla bla
    sit0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-00-00.......
but i have no idea what the last interface it prints out is :
    -00
    NOARP MTU:1480 Metric:1
    RX packets:0 <and everything else is 0>
iwconfig gives me "lo" and "sit0"
in dmesg i found this :
Yenta: CArdBus bridge found at 0000:00:0b.1 [1179:0001]
Yenta: ISA IRQ mask 0x0800, PCI irq 0
it seems to me like the system identifies the socket as the yenta_socket, but I cant modprobe it, --> FATAL: Module yenta_socket not found.
cardctl identified the card corrctly, but neither cardmgr (or whatever its called) or myself are able to modprobe the atmel_cs module which from what I have read have been in the kernel since 2.5.x.
and just to top the hole thing; for some reason I couldnt compile the atmel driver from sourceforge either...
since i have to write all these system-messages for hand I'm not giveing you a printout of all the compile errors (and i should probably post that thing at the sourceforge forum too) , but it seemed like it couldt find the "mach_apicdef.h"
/lib/modules/2.6.4/build/include/asm/smp.h:71:26: mach_apicdef.h: No such file or directory
iit actually complained alot about /lib/modules/2.6.4/build/include/asm files in general...
the reason for the "apic-related errors"? might be that i dont have apic on my laptop (i dont even have a clue what apic is good for)
so basicly what I need is some tips on how to get my 3Com card working.
are the problems caused by the fact that I installed pcmcia-stuff on the harddrive while it was in another machine without pcmcia ?
or are there some bugs in a arch-pcmcia packages (perhaps not that likely since im not alone trying to run arch on a laptop)
or is this simply one of those "reinstall and everything is ok"
by the way.. i know the card works great in linux, 'cause it did just that in suse..
finally.. sorry for this huge post... i simply just wrote everything i knew about my issue..
    thanx

With what you've described, I don't think you need wlan-ng (the one in the repos right now is compiled for the 2.4 series anyway, so it's not helpful).
I think your best option, at the moment, is to compile your own kernel.  Check this thread for steps to do so: http://www.archlinux.org/docs/en/guide/ … ml#SEC6.13
One thing that it's missing (and I've submitted a bug report for it) is removing the md5sums from the PKGBUILD.  After copying your custom config file, you need to edit the PKGBUILD and remove the md5sums line.

  • Trouble establishing wlan connection

    Hi.
I'm using the brcmsmac driver as my wlan driver on my MacBook. It works fine at home, however, at my school I have problems connecting. I can see several acces points, all with the same essid but on different channels. This seems to be very troublesome, scince I only manage to establis a conenction once in about ten times.
There are two networks at school, one is protected by wpa2 and one is not protected. They both work equally bad.
I've tried netcfg and a home made script that removes and loads the module and sets "iwconfig channels auto" but that doesn't work any better.
Does anyone have an idea as to how I would solve this? It's getting really anoying.

I have moved this to the Source Control forum where I hope someone can help you.

  • WLAN Sync does not work after Update to version 10.5.1

Today I have updated my iTunes to version 10.5.1.
Before the update my iPhone was showed under Devices in iTunes and I could start the WLAN Sync directly from iTunes.
After the update my iPhone is only showed when I connect it via the USB-Cable. I can't sync via WLAN.
I've got an iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1 and a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.7.2.
    Can someone help me?

I am having similar trouble. My Apple TV (first generation), and both my iPhone 4 and my wife's 3GS are missing from the device menu. The "Sync via Wi-Fi" boxes are checked and all devices can see the network. I looked at my router's (using the cheap actiontec supplied by Verizon FIOS for the past year) settings and they seem to be OK.
    Any help would be great.

  • Trouble with 3 ATV to connect to iTunes in one WiFi / LAN

    Hi community,
I've trouble with my ATVs in my network. I have 1 3Gen. ATV connected via LAN to iTunes on iMac and 2 2Gen. ATVs via WiFi. The problem I am facing is, if I am connected with two of them to my iTunes Library the third can't even the others ( which have been conneted) are off. If I restart iTunes, I can connect again two of them and the third (doesn't matter which one) cannot. So I can circle arround which one gets connected but it is not very satisfying.
My network is setup on two Airport express and a TC 2Gen to cover the whole house. As I stated above, the ATV 3Gen is connected via Lan, and the other two via WLAN?
Any idea what I've made wrong, or what to do to find the problem?
    Thanks in advance

Until the MacBook Air was released and supported in 10.5, the Mac did not consider USB to be a valid Networking Protocol. So set the Mac with USB solutions aside.
To connect computer-to-computer, you typically need to be using an Ethernet crossover cable. Assigning the same address to two Ethernet devices is never the solution -- it gives a Network Conflict, just as you said.
If your Windows box has some mechanism for Sharing its WiFi connection over Ethernet, you would have to follow its rules. Whether that means Manually assigning an Ethernet Address in the same range or the PC will provide the Address, I do not know.
Best success may be running an Ethernet cable to your Wired/Wireless Base Station, or using a "gaming adapter" (Ethernet-to-Wireless no drivers required) connected to the Mac's Ethernet port to give it WiFi access. What is your Base Station {Cable, DSL, FIOS, Other} ? Ethernet cables can be up to 100 meters (an American Football Field). Often the Base Station can be moved closer for more convenience.

  • Im at my wits end with my n93i and WLAN. Could any...

OK i havea netgear WG121 router and recently got an n93i.
Now I had an n95 for a few days before and that used to connect to my WLAN fine by just using the wlan wizzard. But with this N93I it gives me no end of troubles.
First of all I kept getting incorrect wep key error (even though I was entering in the wep key that I use on my pc). PS Out of curiosity should I be using the password that my PC connects to or the admin password to the router? Both didnt work anyway.
So found this site http://www.wepkey.com/ for converting your ASCII key to Hex. Still didnt work. Only this time it said WLAN network not found.
So then someone said I should try setting a static ip by entering in the gateway address, subnet from my PC as well as the ip address of my phone. When this was done the web page looked to be loading but then said no gateway reply.
I honestley dont know what to do now. It seems there are so many people with WIFI problems around but I dont see any solutions.
    Can anyone assist me?

I'm even more concerned now after hearing back regarding my initial post. Apparently any cancellations or changes are showing as done by me using the self help platform on my BT account. This isn't the case. The actions carried out on certain dates listed on the email I received were all carried out by BT over the phone and not myself. I didn't even know it was possible to cancel a direct debit using the BT website. I thought it had to be cancelled at the bank and then a phone call to BT. I was logged onto my BT account while the phone calls were taking place but any action was carried out by BT and not myself.
BT are insisting I have no DD set up. Yet it clearly shows on my bank account that there is an active DD for BT. To confirm that, I've spoken to my bank today who have verified there is most definitely a DD set up to pay BT on the bank account. They've double checked the account number with me and it's definitely for my BT account. The bank are sending me a letter confirming it's an active DD for me to include all other details for the Ombudsman because I really feel this needs fetching to their attention.
To be fair to the person who has replied I have been told I can pay a small amount and set the DD up rather than pay in full or face restrictions. But despite BT's insistence that I have no DD set up my bank clearly states I have. I'm now going to have to cancel the DD that BT are sure isn't active and set it up again.
Incidentally the monthly payments I'm to make are £45 - less than the £60 and a lot less than the £104 previously mentioned! So on one hand I will have a satisfactory conclusion but on the other I have to still cancel a "none existent" existing DD, set a new one up and am out of pocket on bank charges caused by BT trying to take payment on the wrong date. I then have to trust they'll not do the same thing again.......
It's all like a stupid joke that's just not funny.

  • Satellite P200-15N: No Sound, WLan on Windows XP Pro

I finally was able installing "Windows XP" on my Laptop ... But now i got "NO" sound and "NO" wireless lan .. I got a Vista & Xp Boot now .. So that's cleared .. but need the sound & wireless on XP

    Yes Yes Yes
    I found it !!!! :D ... Well I'll explain you what I did :
    1) To start with .. I installed a clean XP.. etc etc...
    2) Installed Chipset & Ati and some other drivers
    3) Installed KB888111 hotfix
    4) Dit a windows XP Update
    5) Then the trouble started -> installed several drivers and none worked
    6) So i had to see all the installed drivers, that's how I did it -->
7 ) Start -> run -> type "cmd" (without quotes)
    8) then type "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1" (without quotes)
    9) then type "devmgmt.msc" (without quotes), to open the device manger, from the "View" menu, select "Show Hidden Devices".
    10) Under "System devices", i saw the PCI device drivers that didn't work (two of them -> modem and audio device
    11) I selected them and updated the drivers with the drivers of the recent "WDM_R178" (http://majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=4902&file=1&evp=fbcafb670ce23cf 73f57bf62300ae9fb) , I selected the right drivers and it started to install :)
And After that Everything seemed to WORK :D I still got "audio device on high defintion audio bus" with an ? in device manager, but won't touch it :p got sound now :D
Hope this will help other ppl too .. After long searching and frustrating moments .. I finally installed XP on my PC ... If you wanna need help on installing XP itself (with sata drivers) or with the zound or the WLAN .. Just contact me :D
    Kindly Regards,

  • Thinkpad X220: bad wlan connection when docked and lid closed

    Dear forum
I use a Lenovo ThinkPad X220. I have no trouble with the wlan connection when i use the notebook alone. The wlan connection is also stable when i use the notebook plugged in the dockingstation with the lid open. But when I use the notebook plugged in the dockingstation with the lid closed my wlan connection drops regularely to about 2 Mbps and gets very unstable.
The ThinkPad uses the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 wlan network controller:
    $ lspci | grep 6205
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6205 [Taylor Peak] (rev 34)
The network controller uses the iwlwifi driver, that comes with the current linux-firmware package:
    $ pacman -Ss linux-firmware
    core/linux-firmware 20150206.17657c3-1 [Installiert]
    Firmware files for Linux
I didn't change any options of the kernel module, everything runs in default mode:
    $ modinfo -p iwlwifi
swcrypto:using crypto in software (default 0 [hardware]) (int)
11n_disable:disable 11n functionality, bitmap: 1: full, 2: disable agg TX, 4: disable agg RX, 8 enable agg TX (uint)
    amsdu_size_8K:enable 8K amsdu size (default 0) (int)
fw_restart:restart firmware in case of error (default true) (bool)
antenna_coupling:specify antenna coupling in dB (default: 0 dB) (int)
wd_disable:Disable stuck queue watchdog timer 0=system default, 1=disable (default: 1) (int)
    nvm_file:NVM file name (charp)
    uapsd_disable:disable U-APSD functionality (default: Y) (bool)
    bt_coex_active:enable wifi/bt co-exist (default: enable) (bool)
    led_mode:0=system default, 1=On(RF On)/Off(RF Off), 2=blinking, 3=Off (default: 0) (int)
power_save:enable WiFi power management (default: disable) (bool)
    power_level:default power save level (range from 1 - 5, default: 1) (int)
fw_monitor:firmware monitor - to debug FW (default: false - needs lots of memory) (bool)
At first I thought, the problem could be caused by the KDE power saving settings. I changed the settings, so nothing happens when I close the lid (no hibbernation or screen lock or something like that), but without success (the wlan connection is still unstable under the described circumstances).
Also dmesg shows nothing that points out a problem (as far as I can see):
    $ dmesg | grep iwlwifi
    [ 19.688522] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: can't disable ASPM; OS doesn't have ASPM control

So I have no idea where this strange behaviour comes from (only wild guesses: buildfactor, antenna orientation,...).
Any help would be really appreciated.

    hmmm...
how about checking both your wired and wireless nic drivers in device manager to make sure that the "allow computer to turn off this device to save power" checkbox on the power management tab is deselected.

  • Mac does not use WLAN link

    Hi!
A friend of mine got a WLAN router (Fritzbox SL) and an USB stick to connect his Mac (running Mac OS 10.2.8) to the internet. He followed all installation instruction, i.e. configured the WLAN router and installed the WLAN client software on his Mac. But it didn't worked. So he cried for help.
I have pretty good new how about IP, but don't know much about Mac OS. Anyhow, I tried to help.
    What I saw was:
    * The WLAN router configuration was OK. My Win XP laptop connected without any problems.
    * From the WLAN routers point of view, the Mac was connected: I saw it's Ethernet-MAC address and the Mac was assigned an IP address via DHCP.
    * On the Mac, there was no connection to the internet. On the network configuration, DHCP was selected. But the IP address shown here was different (different network) from the one I saw on on the WLAN router. And below the IP address it said "manually assigned". But we did not manually assign that address.
My friend connected the Mac via Modem to the internet before. Maybe, some static routing info here that's causing the trouble?
I asked my friend for a "shell", a command line tool, because I'd to some simple things like a netstat, a ping or a traceroute. Isn't that Mac OS a UNIX based one? There should be tools like these?
    So: Any pointer?
Well, finally, just connected the Mac via an Ethernet cable to the WLAN router (and disabled its WLAN function). This works fine. But it should be possible to use the WLAN as well?!
I am really somewhat surprised. I former times, it was more the MS Windows software that was causing trouble, not working fine. Now, I see that XP already includes WLAN support, either with WEP or WAP encryption, working without any problem, but the Mac OS don't. So, you need som bloddy piece of software which also only provides this pooor WEP encryption and does not work at all.
What happend to the so sophisticated Mac OS?

...and an USB stick to connect his Mac (running Mac OS 10.2.8) to the internet...Did you install the appropriate drivers? USB wireless dongles require the appropriate Mac OS X drivers to operate. The bad part is that these drivers frequently do not get along with OS X and therefore are not recommended.
The best thing is to get the appropriate AirPort card or AirPort Extreme card for the friend's Mac.
The next best thing is to use an Ethernet wireless adapter. These devices require no drivers and therefore will work with any Ethernet device regardless of OS.
