WLST script to edit application.xml

We have an EAR that is being deployed to 6 different domains. I was wondering if there is a way to dynamically set the value of the "web-uri" and "context-root" elements of the application.xml file for all the modules inside the EAR, based on the domain in which the EAR is being deployed.
Currently, we are making 6 copies of the EAR, editing the application.xml file in each EAR and deploying them through the weblogic admin console. I thought I would write a script to automate the process.

Hi,
If you want to dynamicall make any Modifications in your Deployment Descriptors like "application.xml"..."weblogic.xml"...etc then you can use *"Plan.xml"* feature provided bu WebLogic....
Example : http://jaysensharma.wordpress.com/2009/11/29/shared-library-with-plan-xml/

• Edit diameter.xml file using WLST

Hi,
I need to automate creating new Peers like RfSimulator and Rocharging Peers for hssclient using WLST Script.
Please can anyone help me in creating a WLST script(.py) for the Example below.

</route>
<route>
</configuration>
</diameter>

xml or plist , just the extension differs.(Both are Extended Markup Language).
If u want to edit it manually - u can use property list editor (which is in XCode )
or u can open with dashcode , which can be edited easily.
If ur question was to edit dynamically.
U can do that with write to file functionality.
For example u may check this.

• How to parse a xml file within a WLST script

Using the SAXParser in JAXP the parsing of the XML file is event driven.
Instantiate the parser:
SAXParserFactory factory = SAXParserFactory.newInstance();
SAXParser parser = factory.newSAXParser();
InputSource is = new InputSource(new FileReader(theXML));call the parse method:
parser.parse(is, this);The following events are fired as the parser works through the XML public void startElement(String namespaceURI, String localName, String qName, Attributes atts) throws org.xml.sax.SAXException
public void endElement(String namespaceURI, String localName, String qName) throws org.xml.sax.SAXException
characters(char[] ch, int start, int length)etc.
You write what you want within each of these sections to handle the structure of your data. Keep in mind SAX is useful only when you know the structure of your XML.

• Can I unzip the .ipa file and edit the application.xml file

I want to modify the below info to also have an additional string value of 2, which somewhere along the line tells something somewhere that the app can run on the ipad. Is there some info in the compiled application that will error out if I modify this document?
<InfoAdditions>
-  <key>UIDeviceFamily</key><array><string>1</string></array>
</InfoAdditions>
into this
<InfoAdditions>
-  <key>UIDeviceFamily</key><array><string>1</string><string>2</string></array>
</InfoAdditions>

you can change the file extension to zip, unzip it, find the application.xml file in one of the subdirectories, edit it, rezip the files, change the file extension to ipa and install.

• Editing my application.xml file

The server hosting our FMS does not have space to adequately store the media files over time. I have since connected a 500GB external drive to the server. This drive is mapped as the Z drive. I am not exactly sure how I need to edit my application.xml for all http requests to point to this external drive. Below is a small sample of the file. How would I correctly edit this file? Would I just add a line that says <Streams>/;${Z:\VOD_DIR}</Streams> ??? Do I need to delete either of the below lines?
- <Application>
- <StreamManager>
- <VirtualDirectory>
-
<Streams>/;${VOD_COMMON_DIR}</Streams>
<Streams>/;${VOD_DIR}</Streams>
</VirtualDirectory>
</StreamManager>

It doesn't seem to work. Does this only apply to rtmp:// ??? Because we are only using http:// to view our media.
My current application.xml looks like the below. I can still play all media located in the webroot\vod directory but not from the external drive. Do I need to delete <Streams>/;${VOD_COMMON_DIR}</Streams> and <Streams>/;${VOD_DIR}</Streams> ??? The Z drive is the external hard drive. Did I add the entry correctly?
<Streams>/;Z:\vod</Streams>
<Streams>/;${VOD_COMMON_DIR}</Streams>
<Streams>/;${VOD_DIR}</Streams>

• WLST-script showing application state as NEW instead of ACTIVE.

Hi,
I wrote a script for displaying application state in wlst, the script ran fine previously but now its displaying STATE_NEW instead of STATE_ACTIVE.
Not only to active but also other application states(i.e., STATE_PREPARED).
Please suggest me some clue.
Thanks,
Abhi.

Hi Jay,
Thanks for reply.
There are no warnings/errors while deploying the application, i can able to access the application but while checking with the status of the application by script it showing STATE_NEW instead of other application states.
I tried even stopping the application(STATE_PREPARED) but no use it is still displaying same state.
Thanks,

• Create Customization File in OSB 10g with WLST script

Is it possible to create a customization file the same as created from the OSB console with a WLST script?
Can someone show me the syntax to do this? I need to turn this request around quickly and don't have time for a lot of trial and error.
Edited by: DoubleT on Sep 29, 2009 6:44 PM

I resolved my problem. The solution is follow (Java language):
Set<Ref> domainRefs = alsbConfMB.getRefs(businessServiceQuery);
EnvValueQuery evquery = new EnvValueQuery(null, // search across all
// resource types
envValueTypesToSearch, domainRefs, // search only in found refs.
false, // Search all resources
null, // the string we want to replace
false // not a complete match of URI.
Collection<QualifiedEnvValue> founds = alsbConfMB.findEnvValues(evquery);
List<QualifiedEnvValue> qualifiedEnvValueList = new ArrayList<QualifiedEnvValue>();
for (QualifiedEnvValue qev : founds) {
if (qev.getEnvValueType().equals(EnvValueTypes.SERVICE_URI)) {
qualifiedEnvValueList.add(qev);
EnvValueCustomization projectEnvValsCustomization = new EnvValueCustomization("Customizations File for businss services ", qualifiedEnvValueList);
List<Customization> customizationList = new ArrayList<Customization>();
customizationList.add(projectEnvValsCustomization);
OutputStream fileOutputStream = new FileOutputStream("testCustomization.xml");
Customization.toXML(customizationList, fileOutputStream);
fileOutputStream.close();

• Changing weblogic-application.xml

I deploy an EAR file which contains <prefer-application-packages> at weblogic-application.xml. Then, I deploy other applications. According to CAT, I need to modify weblogic.xml. Can I add new contents to that file without redeployment?

Step1). Deploy your Application as it is at present on the Server. Suppose your Web Application name is “SessionTimeoutWebApp” (I am assuming it as a Exploded WAR file you can work with Archived WAR file as well in the same way)
Step2). Anywhere in your file system Just paste the following “plan.xml” file: (Suppose Location is “F:\SessionTimeout_PlanDemo” )
step3:

02     <deployment-plan xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90 http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90/weblogic-deployment-plan.xsd" global-variables="false">
03
04     <application-name>SessionTimeoutWebApp</application-name>
05     <variable-definition>
06     <variable>
07

08     <value>100000</value>
09     </variable>
10     </variable-definition>
11
12     <module-override>
13     <module-name>SessionTimeoutWebApp</module-name>
14     <module-type>war</module-type>
15     <module-descriptor external="true">
16     <root-element>web-app</root-element>
17

18     <variable-assignment>
19

20     <xpath>/web-app/session-config/session-timeout</xpath>
21     </variable-assignment>
22     </module-descriptor>
23     </module-override>
24     <config-root>F:\SessionTimeout_PlanDemo</config-root>
25     </deployment-plan>
Step4). Login to AdminConsole and goto deployments page—-> the select your Application (After Pressing Lock & Edit Button) –> update (click this button)—> browse your “plan.xml” file location and then finish.
Once the changes will be activated ….Next time your will see that your <session-timeout> value is changed from the AdminConsole or through any other technique like JMX or WLST.

• Application.xml and servicegen

Hi
Our web services each have an admin web application that goes with them. This enables us to change configuration settings at runtime.
We want to try to build an ear file that includes both the service and the admin web app.
The problem is that we need to add the web app as a module to application.xml. The Servicegen ant task does not seem to allow us to do this. Ideally, we would have our web app entries in a file that servicegen merges with its generated application.xml.
Clearly we can manually edit the generated application file and repackage the ear file, put this is messy and prone to error.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Andrew Bamford

Found the solution.
We created an application.xml with just the web application in it and added the overwrite="false" attribute to the servicegen task.
The ant script was changed to copy our application.xml file to the appropriate place in the build area (/build/META-INF). Servicegen now adds to this, rather than overwriting it.

• How to Edit a XML data file from AS3 class...

Hi...
I need to edit an XML data file I have at the exit of application.... I have a demo code which is not working....
This is the code :
public function UpdateData():void
trace("Closing....");
var FileData:XML=<Hello>Hai</Hello>
var urlLdr:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
var urlRqst:URLRequest = new URLRequest ("AppData.xml");
urlRqst.data=FileData;
urlRqst.contentType = "text/xml";
urlRqst.method = URLRequestMethod.POST;
urlLdr.load(urlRqst);
This AppData file already exist and has some data in it.
Plus :
How to find the application is exiting.

use:  fscommand('Quit');
to exit your app.
and this is how you would use the urlloader class to save data:
public function UpdateData():void
trace("Closing....");
var FileData:XML=<Hello>Hai</Hello>
var urlVar:URLVariables=new URLVariables();
urlVar.fileData=FileData;
var urlLdr:URLLoader = new URLLoader();
var urlRqst:URLRequest = new URLRequest ("this must be an executable to parse and write data");
urlRqst.data=urlVar;
urlRqst.contentType = "text/xml";
urlRqst.method = URLRequestMethod.POST;
urlLdr.load(urlRqst);
but i don't think you can use an executable on a fl4 device so you will need to use a different class. i don' know how you're storing an xml file on a fl4 device but you should be able to use the sharedobject to read and store xml.

• Using variables in WLST Script ant task

I have multiple scipts that are run using ant tasks, however, I do not want to have to enter the password every time one of these scripts is executed. Instead I would like to use the following ant task to store the password in a variable/property:
<target name="getPassword" >
<echo message="Domain: ${domain}" />
<echo message="Username: system" />

</target>
I would then like to use that variable/property everytime a script is executed like this:
<target name="deploy4x">
<echo message="***** Copying 4X.ear *****" />
<copy file="${build.path}\jar\4X.ear" todir="${apps.dir}" preservelastmodified="true"/>
<echo message="***** Updating 4X.ear on ${domain} *****"/>
<wlst debug="true" fileName="Deploy4X.py" executeScriptBeforeFile="true" failonerror="true" >

</wlst>
</target>
However, the script blows up every time I try to run it b/c of the connect() line. I have also tried connect('system','%s' % password, '%s' % url).
Has anyone else successfully used variables in an Ant WLST Script task?
Thanks.

Hi,
when I use *XDIM_MEMBERSET ACCOUNT AS %TEST% = BAS(REVENUE) - it work fine.
BUT ! after my first commit, it seems like the variable value is lost. And the *Xdim_memberset takes all.....
Fortunately enough, *select still contains the variable value after *commit.
Thanks,
Joergen
*Correction !
It actually works, it still contains the variable value after commit !!

• How to include custom application.xml in JDev9i project

Can anybody explain to me how to include a custom application.xml file when deploying to an .ear file? I need to include application wide security roles, and I can't see where in Jev9i how to do this.
After searching this forum, I see that jdev9i can't include the orion-application.xml, but I want to include just the standard J2EE application.xml. Is this possible?
Thanks,
matt

The standard application.xml file unfortunately can't be customized in JDev 9.0.2. The reasons why this capability was left out of JDev 9.0.2 are same reasons why the other EAR-level XML files were excluded. The OTN thread
Re: Regarding 11i and E-business suite
has a summary of those reasons, which you've probably seen. We know this is an area in need of improvement and will be adding this functionality in the JDev 9.0.3 release. Until then, you'll have to go with a work-around like an Ant build file, batch file, Java application, or some other kind of script.
Below is a sample Java application which can be used to insert <security-role> elements into an EAR file's application.xml. Modify the main() method to customize for your purposes, and put xmlparserv2.jar on the classpath (in a JDev project, add the "Oracle XML Parser v2" library):
package mypackage4;
import java.io.*;
import java.util.*;
import java.util.zip.*;

• Editing a XML file with PHP and HTML or AS2

Hi webmates...
I have been looking for a good tutorial on managing an XML
file through Flash (AS2) or HTML and PHP... but all of what I have
found at the moment are very confusing and incomplete... the
examples actually do not work ok...
Would anyone mind on addressing me any good place where I can
find nice tutorials for this ? perhaps any example ? I wil really
appreciate it, My web is already reading the XML file to load
data... but I also need to create an application for editing this
XML... thanx in advance...

I have no experience with any decompilers beyond possibly attempting to trial one once. The only one I have seen recommended is made by Sothink.
Here is a link to a page with a tool that has an interface you can use to determine various properties of an swf file, including the Actionscript version.
