Won't Initialize

Hi, I'm trying to install an updated Flash Player, and it won't initialize.  I've disabled my antivirus and removed previous versions.  Any tips?  Is there an older version I should run instead?  I'm running Windows XP and Firefox.  Thanks!

    Hi mdiamond1,
    Your code worked for me on a Windows 98 machine with Micro$oft Internet Explorer 6 with the java plug-in version 1.4.1_01.
    Perhaps you can supply some more details about your environment and the exact error message and stack trace you are getting?
    Cheers,
    Avi.

  • Mystery deepens...my Mac won't initialize my iPod, but coworker's will?

    I've done the five R's, and every suggestion on this site. Still, no avail. iPod appears on desktop, iSync sees it but won't recognize it (that's the headshaker of the year), and iTunes won't have anything to do with it. The thing's been restored and 'zeroed out' so much it's about to become antimatter.
    On a lark, I plug it into my co-wroker's mac...and it wants to initialize my brand-new iPod. I can't even get my Mac to do THAT.
    So, my iPod's okay, but apparently my Mac refuses to have anything to do with it as an iPod? What happened?

    Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

  • K9N2 SLI Platinum video won't initialize with monitor connected

    Hi,
    I've gone through the RMA process with my vendor and I am on my third motherboard right now and I am still having an issue (so, basically, nightmare scenario here  ). The first and second motherboard failures seemed slightly different but the failure seems to be the same for the second and third and it is making me think that another factor may be at play other than the motherboard. All of the failures have been with the integrated video (which is all I plan to use at the moment --I don't even own a PCI-E video card right now nor have any plans to get one in the near future).
    In the first motherboard, everything seemed to work (as far as I could tell --4 green diagnostic LED's and all that) but no video signal was produced. Testing with an antediluvian Virge DX based PCI card (some of you kiddies may be too young to remember such things) did show normal booting with that video card (as far as I allowed it to go) and I suspect, from the pattern of hard drive activity, that with the integrated video the boot process was also normal (I just couldn't see it because of no video signal being produced). But that is past and has been RMA'd.
    The replacement motherboard and the motherboard replacing the replacement motherboard, on the other hand, have seemed unable to initialize video whenever my monitor is connected but if the monitor is not connected, they work fine (but then video defaults to a 1028x768 mode and I cannot run my monitor at native resolution). Curiously enough, my second motherboard worked correctly twice before exhibiting the described behavior making me think, at the time, that I just got really unlucky and simply had had it fail shortly after testing it those two initial times.
    Not being able to initialize video while the monitor is plugged in means that if I try to start it while the monitor is attached, the motherboard will not even POST and that the diagnostic LED's will be stuck at the video initialization stage (three reds, and one green at group 4).
    Furthermore, if I start it with no monitor attached and plug the monitor in after I get 4 green LED's, it will start booting the OS (Windows XP) but the screen will go black when the Windows XP logo should be appearing. I can also leave it unplugged until it should be at the Windows XP logo stage (or plug it after the 4 green LED's and unplug it again before the video mode switch happens) and when I plug it back in I can see the Windows XP logo. However, as soon as it switches to the Windows XP desktop, I get a black screen.
    And again, if I leave the monitor unplugged until the Desktop should be showing up and I plug it in at that point (or go through the process of plugging and unplugging the monitor while avoiding having video mode switches happen with the monitor plugged in) I do get a Windows desktop at the 1024x768 resolution. Once in the desktop, as far as I can tell, I can do anything there that I normally would be able to do (so I mostly have a working system, as far as I can tell). I have even installed drivers, verified that the sound works, etc.. I will still do a repair install at some point because I am not doing this the "right way" and I probably needed to do it anyway (though I think it's using the right kernel and everything --showing 3 CPU's, etc.) but I am not looking for answers with that as my issue shows up before the system even goes through POST. Again, note that I cannot even take advantage of my monitor's native resolution with the current kludge.
    Curiously enough, if I try to switch to my native resolution of 1920x1200 it will do it but only by switching me to a virtual 1920x1200 desktop on a 1024x768 display (so there's no actual video mode switch involved and the desktop becomes bigger than what my monitor can show). It's as if part of the subsystem is reading the monitor and "knows" that it supports 1920x1200 but another part of the subsystem is just assuming some sort of 1024x768 default common lowest denominator for digital displays. I attribute this to the fact that video has been initialized with no monitor connected.
    I originally had a 350W Enermax power supply (which worked as long as the monitor was not plugged in) supplying 32A on the +3.3V rail, 32A on the +5V rail and 26A on the +12V rail but I replaced it with the power supply shown on my profile (which was probably totally unnecessary as I'm only using the integrated video --but hey, I now have a blue light coming from my power supply so that makes it all worth it  ). I suppose both power supplies could work badly with this motherboard model but it seems exceedingly unlikely that that would be the case (specially since everything works as long as there is no monitor plugged in during video mode switches).
    I currently am running it, on cardboard, with a single stick of RAM (on the slot next to the CPU) and nothing else connected to it except the power supply (including JPW3 & JPW4), the CPU, a hard disk with a working Windows XP install, a mouse on the mouse port and a keyboard on the keyboard port (specification as on my profile minus one RAM module). I did play with RAM timings at the request of tech support but I can't imagine how it could be a RAM problem when everything works as long as a monitor isn't plugged in during video mode switches.
    I did update the BIOS from 3.4 to 3.5. 3.5 did not seem to be available at the time of my previous motherboard and I knew it was a real long shot for this to be a BIOS issue that would be fixed with the 3.5 update (specially since the update mentions only CPU support stuff and nothing about video) but I am desperate. Yes, I have done the whole resetting the CMOS thing.
    I am even considering the possibility that there may be some weird incompatibility between the video on this board and my monitor (under the assumption that, quoting Holmes, once you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth). I don't even know how that would work. Note that my monitor worked in my previous system with the digital input (my previous system is no longer available to me for testing --but I did get a chance to test it, after having problems with my first K9N2 SLI Platinum motherboard which I returned, and it worked). Note that my monitor works with the system in question (I simply cannot have it connected while there's a video mode switch under way). Note that the lack of a picture seems to be related to the motherboard as evidenced by it being stuck at the video initialization stage if I attempt to start it with the monitor connected.
    Any wild ideas? I do not want to return this motherboard a third time  and I specially do not want to return this motherboard a third time if it's something that can be easily fixed.

    Have you tried with just memory stick in 1st DIMM near to CPU socket and mainboard out of PC case?
    Yes, I currently am running it, on cardboard outside the case, with a single DIMM (on the slot next to the CPU) and nothing else connected to it except for the power supply (including JPW3 & JPW4), the CPU, a hard disk with a working Windows XP install, a mouse on the mouse port and a keyboard on the keyboard port (specification as on my profile minus one RAM module). And it works,... as long as the monitor is not ever connected while video mode switches occur (including power on). And this is exactly how the previous motherboard which I returned also behaved.
    Addendum: As an additional note, I have tried the other DIMM on the same socket by the CPU with the same results (everything works as long as there's no monitor connected during a video mode switch). I also managed to make a bootable Memtest86+ (is that what people use to test memory these days?) USB stick and I am running it right now. It has shown no errors right so far but it has only been running a few minutes. I do not really expect any memory errors to be at fault since they would have to be magical memory errors which only cause problems when there is a monitor connected while a video mode switch is happening but I'm desperate to try anything to find out what the issue is.

  • Disk Utility won't initialize second Maxtor drive

    My first hardware upgrade has not gone too well. I just got a Maxtor 6L250S0 drive to fill empty second bay of my dual 1.8 PowerMac G5. (Drive specs: 250 GB SATA Ultra 16, DiamondMax, 16 MB cache, 7200 RPM) Installation was a breeze, but I can't get my Mac to erase, format, partition or otherwise initialize the drive for use. When I rebooted, I got the message about needing to initialize the new hardware. I clicked "Initialize", and Disk Utility came up. Disk Utility lists "Maxtor SABRE" as a drive on the left and lists the following details at the bottom:
    Disk Description : Maxtor SABRE
    Total Capacity : 0 Bytes
    Connection Bus : Serial ATA
    Write Status : Read/Write
    Connection Type : Internal
    S.M.A.R.T. Status : Not Supported
    Connection ID : Device 0, "B (lower)"
    The Capacity and SMART status lines are a bit troubling. Is that normal when a drive is first installed?
    I go to the ERASE tab and can only select "Mac OS Standard" or "UNIX File System" for the volume format. I select the Mac OS Standard and press the Erase button, but I get a message "Disk erase failed with the following error: The chosen size is not valid for the chosen file system."
    I go to the PARTITION tab and can't do anything there either. When it lets me edit the form and press the Partition button, it gives an error saying "Device not configured." Usually as soon as I do anything on this form (e.g., select the Format dropdown), all the choices are grayed out with the notice "the disk is too small to contain partitions".
    Based upon research here and elsewhere, I know this is a compatible drive. Am I missing a step? Could the drive be bad?

    Hi,
    I have never seen a Maxtor come up as "Maxtor SABRE" in disk utility. Your post says the Maxtor 250GB hard drive is mounted internally. If so, I would guess that the drive is damaged. I would take it back for a working drive.
    Or you could call Maxtor at (800) 262-9867. I have had two Maxtor drives fail in the last 5 months and the techs at Maxtor sent me replacements and then I returned the damage drives in their shipping boxes.
    The Maxtor tech guys are very helpful and give Mac users the benefit of the doubt when it comes to warranty returns. At least that was my experience.
    The drive should display Maxtor 6L250S0 in the disk utility window and Smart Drive status should be active.
    I hope this helps,

  • Java Applet Won't Initialize

    This is a modified version of a tutorial I've been working with. Code for Main.java:
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class Main {
    * @param args the command line arguments
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {

    f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
    f.setSize(300,300);
    f.setVisible(true);
    Problem is that when I try to load the applet into an html file:
    <html>
    <APPLET code="Main.class"></APPLET>
    </html>
    It doesn't load.
    The file compiles and executes as a stand alone .jar, but when I try to run it as an applet it won't work.
    I know I'm probably missing an easy step. I have already checked my IE7 settings and java is enabled. I have no problem with any other java applets, just the ones I make. haha. Thank you ahead of time.

    I did some research, and got a new tutorial because the old one was inappropriate like you pointed out previously. This one I copy pasted into my editor, it compiled fine. • Applet won't initialize when testing Applet

    I compiled my file with no errors, yet when I test the Applet it tells me that it can not initialize, can anyone help me.
    Thanks

    Some source code causing the problem would be nice. Also, if are viewing your Applet in a browser make sure you are using JDK 1.0/1.1 classes/methods.
    Open your java console in your browser to see exactly what the Exception (if any) that is being thrown. (To enable your java console your might have to edit your browser settings, in IE you can do this through your tools/internet options/advanced then check the java console box.)

  • CS6 won't install Installer won't initialize

    Brand new Windows 7 professional Toshiba lap top.  Installed fine when I took it out of the box.
    Had an error booting up the machine a couple days later and had to restore to a previous back up point.  This made all installed programs, including InCopy CS6, MS Office go away.
    Could not re-install any of the programs.  Ran MS Fix It program to delete Office and was able to re-install just fine.  It does not show Adobe CS6 or InCopy as an option to delete using the fix it tool.  After removing Office it says the registry is fine.
    But now when I try to install CS6 InCopy I get an error that says the "Installer Failed to Initialize" and to download a diagnostic tool that no longer exists.
    where do I go from here?

    uninstall all cs6 programs (if there are any),
    clean (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6)
    then reinstall.

  • Backup synchronization won't initialize in Photoshop Elements8 & windows 7

    Hi
    I just recently got a new computer and moved all my pictures etc to it using the windows easy transfer. My old computer was running XP and my new one is running Windows 7 professional. When I installed Photoshop Elements 8 on my new computer it had a hard time recognizing where my files. I actually started a letter (email) to adobe but forgot to push send. the next morning when I got back to my computer it suddenly recognized my file location and I thought everything was good. Not so. Yesterday i added some new pictures to my computer but when i opened photoshop organizer it didn'tsee my new photos - even though it was watching that folder. Now it seems to be recognizing the photos but when I try to get it to sync with my photoshop online account the backup syncroniztion won't intialize. It keeps cycling.
    I have tried reinstalling Photoshop Elements 8.0 earlier but that hasn't helped. Any suggestions? I love the fact that it can backup my photos without me even thinking about it and now I want it back
    Help

    Yes for some reason when I tried every suggestion that I could find it still hung up and wouldn't sync.I changed power settings thinking it was somehow timing out and sleeping etc. Nothing worked.  I even found a posting from someone else that said they had the same problem without any resolution from Adobe(if I remember correctly the rep had said to them it may be an issue with the fact that  they were using  64 bit and it wasnt originally designed to work with 64 bit and hench had glitches. I may have misunderstood that though).
    I then realized that I had paid extra just to have this feature(XP Mode) in Windows 7 so I tried it .....It was surprisingly easy to do just a matter of clicking on something that said to run this program in XP mode and it worked. I haven't had a problem with it since.
    Weird but true

  • Album Starter Edition 3.0 Won't Initialize

    I had Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0.1 installed to service my Epson scanner and learn how to work with digital images. I built a file in the album that contained a few unimportant photos it imported from another computer on my LAN. (I really don't know how Photoshop works yet with regard to where the files go or are copied.)
    I apparently attempted to delete one of the photos. I remember answering yes to having it removed from the hard drive completely. I think I interrupted that process because the cursor kept spinning for quite some time and I had to use Cntl-Alt-Dlt. Subsequently, each time I attempted to bring up the program, I would get the initialization window, the cursor hourglass would turn, but the program wouldnt expand. A quick check of its status through Cntl-Alt-Dlt showed it was not responding.
    Ive uninstalled it through Add/Remove Programs on my Windows XP Pro machine several times with the same results. Even tried reinstalling in Safe Mode with Networking (and without) but the op system wont allow it. The window tells me it cant use the Window Installer it needs and suggests Im in Safe Mode which, of course, I was at the time. This was one of the helpful hints on the Adobe website for FAQ. Unfortunately, it didnt solve the problem.
    All other programs seem to operate without incident and the system seems to have suffered no ill effect but I am concerned. I ran Microsoftss Onecare (http://safety.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm), found no virus, cleaned the registry, and cleared the Temp files as recommended by the programs report. I have not reinstalled Album yet; Id like to get a better understanding of what the problem could be. I noticed there are several other postings from people who have had similar problems problems but they either were more complicated or went unanswered.

    I set Explore to display hidden files then ran a search as suggested. Zip! Ran another with the two names run together. Zip! Finally ran on as "*.psa". Still zip! The program was removed about three times and I haven't reinstalled. Would prefer to have an understanding of what's going on first.
    Is it possible MS's Onecare cleaned everything up and removed it? Probably not if it's a folder that stands alone... but I don't really know. The other possibility is that when I hit the instruction to delete a photo, I may have deleted the entire catalog. Possible? Or if the name of that catalog got corrupted somehow.... how would I find it? If the name DID get corrupted... it would be the extension that was changed as well 'cause nothing was returned in the search for "*.psa".
    Looks like I'm not the only one having trouble though. Someone else has posted similar occurrences since I posted this. Perhaps something else is going on if that program seeks information on the net before it sets itself up. I'm really at a lose.

  • PS won't initialize, can't find scratch disk

    Suddenly, when launching either PS4 or PS6, I get "Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available." So I click the OK button and I get "Could not initialize Photoshop because the disk is not available." Then PS shuts down without launching. I have the scratch disk set up as an external HD via Firewire 800 on an iMac, OS 10.7.5. The external disk shows up on my desktop, and reads and writes normally.
    I did have a power glitch earlier today, causing everything to shut off, i.e., a hard shut down, so that is quite possibly the problem. If I turn off the external HD, and relaunch PS, it opens fine, both CS4 and CS6, and in the Performance Preference, the external HD of course does not show up. If I turn the external back on, PS will not launch. So, for some reason PS cannot now find the external, but every other function on the computer can find the external, including SuperDuper backup software. I'm figuring I need to trash a preference file, but don't know which one or where it might be. I did use the Mac Disk Utility to "repair" the external HD, and it found no problems. Any ideas?

    Most likely you have a "ghost" mountpoint for that drive.
    Check in /volumes/... and I suspect you'll have two directories for that volume name.
    The second one will most likely be the real one, and the first is the ghost (a real directory on your disk instead of a mount point).
    Also, this is one of the reasons why it's not a good idea to use an external drive for scratch.

  • Installer won't initialize, "missing file"?

    Hey all, I'm pounding my head against the wall here trying to install CS6 Design Standard on my Mac (OSX 10.7.3). I first tried to install last night, and everything seemed to be going just fine. The installer opened, I entered my serial number and selected the products I wanted to install. The problem started when my damned computer locked up in the middle of the install. I tried to restart the install multiple times last night, but I think I had to many other things going on for the system to handle and it kept locking up.
    I went to bed last night without having time to troubleshoot. This morning, I try again and now the installer gives me the "installer failed to initialize. this could be due to a missing file." error. Never seen that before. I immediately thought there could be something wrong with my disc, from all the locking up last night, so I did a system-wide virus scan, verified and repaired the permissions, verified and repaired the disc using the Startup Disc Utility. I came back and the installer still gives me the same error. I deleted the entire 4GB package I downloaded from Amazon, emptied my trash bin and downloaded a "fresh" copy from Amazon. Same problem.
    I have no idea what to do now. Please help.
    Regards,
    James

    Any reason you're downloading from Amazon instead of from the Adobe website?
    The "failed to initialize" error usually indicates that the extraction process after the download did not complete correctly. In most cases, you can re-extract to resolve the issue, but sometimes you need to download again.

    You may want to try the direct download link from here: http://prodesigntools.com/adobe-cs6-direct-download-links.html

  • I've followed advice but Illustrator still won't initialize.

    Hello anyone,
    I use a Mac Power G5 with OS 10.5.8. I own Illustrator CS2 which, until some point in early February, worked like it should.  Without notice, I suddenly can't initialize the program. The startup gets hung up at the point where it needs to handle fonts and never responds afterward. I've already seen forum discussions about this similar issue and have eliminated my Illustrator preferences, tossed the whole program and re-installed, as well as booted up with a smart boot to cleanse the font cache. Still, Illustrator will not initialize. Can anyone go over this with me again and suggest a solution that doesn't include selling my kidneys?
    I appreciate any advice no matter how inane. Thanks for any.
    These problems are pathetic and wasteful of an owner's time and money.

    I was about to post the same but this is on the web and on the forum you should always do a search to save yourself some trouble, worry and lots of time.
    Mark Larry's answer as the answer so others can find it.
    One of the problems is no one has marked this solution as the answer so it is harder to find.
    So please mark Larry's answer.
    You can see what I mean here

    So again please mark Larry's answer as the answer.
