Won't work as a startup anymore.

I have been running my Imac with Snow Leopard on an external Lacie disk and backing it up on another disk with Time Machine. Today the power went out for a couple of minutes and my computer will no longer allow me to select it as a startup disk. Fortunately I had another hard drive which will work as a startup but how can I access the Mail, Time Machine and the items on the desktop from the now unhappy operating system?

Yes it mounts and shows up in startup Disk in System Preferences but is faded and won't let me select it.
I've am not familiar with Diskwarrior but see I have Techtool Pro 5 which I have never used - would it do anything usefull?
Also, if you have a time machine back up on another disk then you can easily restore everything from the TM back up on the new disk you are using, think I am missing something here.
I went to Time machine and was able to move documents to the hard drive I am now using but when I tried moving the system folder and put in my password it said it couldn't restore the system folder because there was already a system folder there. (But I am not restoring it to the Hard drive that is actually running the computer now.)
What I really want is my email and the desktop documents on my screwed-up OS. Where can I find these in Time Machine?

I've got an iMac running OS X 10.6.8 and Windows 7 via Boot Camp. I just updated a bunch of the Apple stuff on Windows -- iTunes, Quicktime, "boot camp" (I assume that meant drivers and such), and whatnot. Now my Magic Mouse won't work in Windows 7. It was fine before, so I assume the update screwed something up. Help? I know nothing of retrieving old drivers and stuff like that.

Help Ipod won't work with my computer anymore!

I have a 5th gen Ipod and it has been working fine for the first month I've had it but recently I can't seem to get it to work with Itunes or even be detected on my computer. I've already tried all the things it says to do on the support page and none of it seems to be working. I've reinstalled everything and tried the Ipod updater but it won't work. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what should I do? Is there any way I can just get a new Ipod since I've only had this one for a month?

ITunes Match Genius Mixes won't work on iOS devices anymore

I had the iTunes Match Genius Mixes running on my Apple TV and iPhone without any problems until yesterday. Since then the iPhone still shows the list of mixes, but no cover art of the contained songs nor does anything happen when I press the play button. On the Apple TV it says that I should first enable Genius in my iTunes on my Mac, but that has already happened.
I tried signing out and in again from iTunes Match several times. The iTunes library load everywhere without problem and all songs are availble but no Genius or Genius Mixes. I also tried disabling iTunes Match on my Mac and turned it on again. Same result. All iOS device does not offer Genius or Genius Mixes anymore.
Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having the same issue as well. Tried same process of turning off and on match on all my devices, nothing works.
I really miss my genius mixes, and considering I just purchased iTunes Match, this kind of stinks.

Netflix won't work on Apple TV anymore

Hi there - bought my Apple TV a few months ago and signed up for Netflix over 30 days ago. Everything worked fine.
Now everytime I try to start Netflix I receive an error message "We're unable to connect you to Netflix. Please try again later (ATV-ui113)
Any idea?

I also have the same issue and I have done all that restarting, resetting, unplugging everything. In my case none of that stuff works. I have the latest software. It is connected wired to ethernet port from the router because I gave up trying to make it work with Wi-Fi. There is no connection problem! Everything connects just fine. Even when I connect to the Wi-Fi network. It simply won't stream Netflix. I get sound but the picture either goes black or freezes. Apple!! Make the **** thing work with something other than iTunes Store and don't make us buy your overpriced router (Airport Express or Extreme). I'm betting I can go out and buy a Rocu right now and it would work just fine.

[SOLVED] MPD won't work on system startup

I have just installed and configured mpd today, and it works fine if I start it up manually using "/etc/rc.d/mpd start", however, it fails to start up automatically when I put it in the daemons list in my rc.conf. I have full rights to the ~/.mpd/ directory (since it's in my home folder) and the Music directory. My music database built fine, and everything works fine if I start it up manually. I don't get why it fails to start on system boot.
Here's my daemons list:

Hmm. I believe I found the problem. I removed the @ in front of all the daemons to let them start up in order instead of in the background, and everything starts up perfect.
I wonder which daemon MPD relies on that's causing it to fail. Network maybe? Anyone have any ideas?

I've re-installed iTunes, the latest version for Tiger, I've reset and restored my iPod. The ipod shows up fine in the source banner and I can transfer files to it, however when I unplug the iPod the files are not there.

Maybe try to repair the iPod's HD using Disk Utility located in the Applications -> Utilities folder. If that doesn't help, try a low level reformat of the drive using the same application. Make sure you choose Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) as the file system format.

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

My MacBook and my Monitor won't work together anymore

Ok i have a macbook i got less than a year ago and for the last 2 months i have been running my old samsung monitor off of a mac mini port to VGA and now it won't work anymore when ever i connect it the monitors light just flashes on and off repeatedly but the screen turns black i have tried adjusting the sizing but it wont work...
I know its connected cause the screen blinks blue and the windows that are set to open on it still do and i have to drag them over to see them

My USB external hard disk won't work anymore after I updated to 10.4.10

As I said in title since it's quite urgent to me. ALL of my files is in my external hard drive. It's format as FAT or FAT32 I can't remember since I use it between mac and PC. More than that IT IS WORKING FINE UNDER PC. Before updating to Mac 10.4.10 I used my hard disk fine till I updated to this version. I plug in my usb port and after a hours it still won't be detected. I can find my hard disk in finder or desktop. I have tried plug my hard disk to other MacBook or Mac Pro but still won't work anymore. However it's working fine under PC or when I started my MacBKPRO as WindowsXP under bootcamp, my hard disk is working fine, too.
I have search this forum and seems someone have got the same problem as I face. I don't know what to do...and I feel so disappointed to Mac.

As Mac OS X has no known viruses in the wild, that leaves you with one of three possibilities.
1. When connected to the Windows machine, a virus has written over a critical boot block area which allows the drive to become crossplatform. Get the latest Windows virus detection software and make sure the drive is clean of Windows viruses.
2. The firmware that allows it to communicate driverless has become corrupted on the drive case. Replacing the drive case itself will eliminate that problem, as suggested earlier.
3. The directory damage is just enough that the boot block itself is damaged. Backup any critical data from the drive onto the Windows machine first, and run Alsoft Disk Warrior 4.0 to repair the directory and see if that works.
The fact that Mac OS X 10.3.9 won't read it basically eliminates this as a 10.4.10 problem. Only a boot block or firmware issue like this could make a drive not readable on one platform, but readable on another.

There is no way to consolidate iTunes accounts.
Setting up an iPhone has never required creation of a new Apple ID.
You've apparently purchased content with both Apple ID's. Sign into the device with the correct Apple ID and sync the content.

my hotmail account won't work anymore, it comes up but when I try to do an action (delete a message) it won't do anything, I've restarted the webpage and updated firefox but it keeps doing the same thing, this was not happening a few days ago

Well, Hotmail no longer works with Firefox on my desktop. Strangely enough when I use my iPad to access hotmail I have the same problem if I set the browser to emulate firefox. I have not tried the firefox app for mobile yet. When my iPad is set to appear as mobile (generic) then firefox works.
Others at work have all had the same problem (and with Chrome but that is not something I want to use anyway). Some have switched to Opera as a temp solution.
Two said whern they disabled silverlight, firefox worked fine. I tried that and it did not. (I have had problems with Silverlight with firefox 10 & 11) I have tried disabling all extensions and plugins and adding one back at a time and so far no luck. My Google account works OK. Any suggestions not only welcome but might be life-savers.
