Hi rafael, and a Warm Welcome to the Power Mac G5 Forum!
Whilst not wishing to give you false hope, a similar 'one flash' problem was fixed by experimenting with the RAM here
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3338765#3338765
So, you could try taking out any added RAM and see if it will boot with just the original "Apple" RAM. If it does, you could try replacing the added RAM, in pairs, and try it.
If it won't boot with just the original RAM, you could try removing and then replacing it - sometimes it's just a bad contact in the slot. This might be the problem with the added RAM too, rather than the RAM being faulty. The RAM DIY instructions are here
http://www.info.apple.com/usen/cip/pdf/g5/memory_c.pdf
Note especially the static precautions.
Once you get it to boot ok, you could run the Apple Hardware Test
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/aht.html
esp. noting the links to Memtest/Rember further down the page.
As it had a forced shutdown, you could run Disk Utility (the one on the 10.4.8 drive) and Repair Permissions and Verify Disk.
Good Luck.

  • Late 2007 2.4Ghz iMac wont boot - no chime or screen

I have a late 2007 2.4Ghz iMac 4GB RAM.  I removed the RAM to take to work, and while I was gone my son came home from School and attempted to boot the machine with no RAM in it.  He rang me up saying the iMac is beeping on startup.  I came home unplugged the iMac from the power and put the RAM back in.  I tried to boot and I can hear the fans spin up for a second and then nothing.  No chime, no screen.
I tried using other RAM and swapping them out - nothing.  I tried unplugging for 15 seconds etc, but I'm not getting anywhere.  Any ideas?

It took me a while but I found out the culprit was using 800Mhz DDR2 RAM rather than the stock 667Mhz.  800Mhz RAM I've used in other 667MHz machines and assumed it was backward compatible.  Seems an issue with this particular 2007 iMac?

  • IMac black screen, wont boot, no chimes

    Hi,
I have an intel iMac 2010 model 21.5 inch screen.
    Snow leopard
All up to date with software updates
    4GB ram
    500GB HDD
I tend to always leave it in sleep at my office and when an update is available I do a reboot.
After a few days away from the office I can no longer do anything with the iMac?
Pressing the keyboard doesn't wake it up.
So I booted it down and rebooted.
I hear a faint sound of a beep (But not the chimes) then I hear the HDD crackle away and the fans come on.
There are no chimes and the screen stays completely off.
    Things I have tried:
    Holding down shift on reboot
Holding down cmnd option P and R on reboot ( I have tried all the keyboard options that I have read about)
Holding down C on boot with the OSX disc inserted (I hear a series of beeps during this time, but nothing happens)
I have taken out the RAM and reset it, but to no avail
I have booted down, removed the cable, waited 15 seconds and then re inserted it and rebooted
    Nothing seems to do anything.
I cannot afford to have it repaired by apple and would consider repairing it myself, if only I knew what was wrong with it?
If you have any idea's as to whether its the power supply or logic board or something simple, i would be keen to know so i can look at repairing it.
I have taken my macbook pro apart numerous times to replace fans, HDD, RAM etc (but te iMac does look a wee bit more complex than that)
EDIT: I have plugged in my iphone to a usb socket and it charges, so i assume the power is actually there, its just not booting??
I have no warranty on this either
    Best regards
    Chris

    Hi BDAqua
My friend brought his MBP round and we connected the two via firewire and booted using the 'T' option on KB but it showed nothing.
I have an inkling it may be a power supply rather than logicboard. At least I hope so as the price difference between the two is crazy.
The DVD drive spins but nothing happens/
I have even tried to look at any LED lights in the RAM port but cannot see anything?
I just hope it can be resolved at a reasonable price
    Regards
    Chris

  • Mac pro wont boot no chime blank screen fan running 100%

When switching on the mac no chime happens, fans come on as normal then build up to 100% speed and all that happens is the light solid on the front and black screen, did the diagnostic on the logic board all that lights up is the orange trickle LED, i have done reaserch on this and aparently the riser cards have leds that light up when turning on the machine, i have also read that it could be a logic board needs replacing im really hope its not that and something else because they cost a fortune to replace. if anyone knows what is happening would muchly appreciate help
    thank you

fair enough thought it would of been a logic board prolem i will try taking out the card and see what happens. if like you said it beeps do i need to replace the power supply ??
If it beeps with the video card removed that would mean it's the video card that is the problem.
I gave the computer a general clean last night but nothing major as in pulling out the cpu and giving it a clean, could that also be a problem ?
It's always good to limit the dust just to minimize overheating.  But I don't think that the problem here.  Just good maintenance.
also another question what are the symptoms of a logic board failure?
Machine does't work?   I can't really be definitive.  What happens if there is a logic board failure in your TV?  I think you get the line of thought here.
thank you again you are being most helpful
    You're welcome and good luck.

  • Wont boot - no chimes, fan noise but only with battery connected

    Hello,
    It's an old Powerbook G4 - A1138 that won't boot.
If you press the power button, the fan whirrs quickly and loudly. But only with the battery connected. If the battery is removed (but the computer is connected to the power supply) then nothing happens...
I have tried re-setting the PMU as per this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431 This didn't help.
Is it now dead? If I can just reach a point whereby I can boot it in Firewire HD mode (normally holding command + T down) and recover content then great!
    Thanks :-)

  • Wont boot past apple logo and no spinning wheel

My macbook a1181 wont go into safe mode and wont boot from cd. The hard drive is working perfectly in my other macbook but wont boot in this one. The only thing it will do is go to the apple screen and there is no spinning wheel under the apple.

Which OS X is installed on your Mac ?
Troubleshooting advice can depend on that information.

  • HP HDX18t light up but wont boot. Blinks once

    I own a HP HDX18t
    Windows Vista SP1
    8 Cell Lithum Battery
    9600 M GT Graphic
    Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P6700 (2.53)
Purchased new online in May 2009.
Laptop lights will come on when pushing power on button and I can hear it starting but after a few seconds lights by capslock and numlock begin to blink.  Sequence appears to be one blink, then about 2 second pause, then one blink again, then it repeats.  I've taken battery out, waited a few minutes and replaced.  I have take battery out, held down power button for 60 seconds, then replaced battery.  I have tried powering on with battery removed.  No matter what I do, it's the same results as stated above.
When ordering I got the graphics card upgrade, but applications that utilize the card crash the laptop in a few minutes from overheating, so I just stopped using graphics intensive applications.  Volume controls stick often going all the way up or all the way down with one momentary press of the button.  Power cord connection has worn out so much that I purchased a new battery charger, but it still fits in loosely.  I had been using the new charge for about a month before today when it wont even turn on.   I was considering ordering the dc power interface that's built into the laptop because even with new batter charger you had to wiggle it just right to get the light to come on showing that it was charging.
All this I can live with or work on later and I only mention it in case it pertains to the major problem of not being able to start the laptop.  Forum searchs suggested that "one blink" indicates a CPU failure, so I'm looking for confirmation on that.
I have a fair amout of experience building desktop PCs from scrach but have not yet attempted repairs or upgrades on laptops.
    Any help is appreciated.

I have worked on the HDX18 series quite a bit buying up old used ones and rebuilding them.
I am not familiar with the codes, but CPU failure is rare, remove one stick of RAM and see if it will boot up, if not try the other stick. It also sounds like a corrupted BIOS and I have a fix for that too, if it's not too far gone.
The cooling vents need cleaning out and some new thermal greece applied and possibly some new thermal pads, that should solve the overheating and crashing problems, IC Diamond is great.
The power plug on the laptop is not part of the MoBo and e-bay has tons of these.

    Hi
My Powerbook was the same. Only fix is to reinstall OSX from the install CD but be sure not to pick the Format and install clean. Once you boot with the install CD pick the preserve user data and settings.
On My machine the reinstall looked perfect. My network, email, files and all the programmes were all there. Most apps worked fine but Adobe CS2, Virtual PC and NetBarrier all needed reinastallation as they reported a few files or registration was missing. I went for the 10.4.3 upgrade again and it worked fine.

  • Created 3 partitions on new Mac Mini, deleted one, and now Bootcamp wont boot anymore! Need help please!

Here's my dilemma.  I have a new Mac Mini - a week old.  I installed Windows 7 on it using Mac's Bootcamp assistant.  I then set up and configured my Windows 7 world and everything worked fine.  No issues logging in between Lion or Win7 via the restart/option key procedure.  Well, yesterday I split my Mac HD partition one more time to create a third partition (was created as an "extra", e.g. possible future partition for another operating system).  After creating it, I then decided that I didn't really need it.  So I deleted it in Disk Utility and attempted to drag the Mac HD partition line downward so as to "fill in the gap" and reclaim the lost hardrive space.  It seemed as if I could reclaim about 1 gig or so, but I figured...oh well.
Well, the Mac HD partition seems to work just fine, but now I've noticed that I can't get into the Bootcamp partition anymore.  It wont boot.  If I try to verify the partition [doesn't even give me "repair" as an option), then it fails and gives me the following error message: "verify volume failed.  invalid request."  When I go to the Startup Disk option in my System Preferences section, it displays the bootcamp partition as a folder and not as a drive anymore.
I'm assuming that I messed up some permissions or lost some vital links during my attempted resizing/reclaiming of harddrive space.  How do I fix this without having to reload either all of my Mac info or all or my Win7 info?  I'd hate to consider the last two days of my life loading this crap up a complete loss.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi surroundsound,
you can't put more partitions on internal HD once you install winOS with Boot Camp.
The sure fix is to delete the windows partition (with Boot Camp Assistant, not Disk Utility), then getting rid of the extra partition (with Disk Utility).
then you can re-install your win& (recreate the win. partition with Boot Camp) - don't add any partitions after.

  • Toshiba A105 wont boot, blinking lights.

My friends toshiba A105 wont boot, it has no display, fans dont even spin up, power button does nothing. All it does is the battery and AC lights blink green every couple seconds when it's plugged into AC. tried it with the battery out too. Any idea whats wrong, is this some kind of error code? I can take it apart if I have to. I did once before because the fan stopped working and had to be replaced.

Possibly an error code. Do they blink any particular pattern? (usually four sets, ie 2-1-3-1 where each number is the number of blinks between the long pause).
WIth out knowing much more I am going to hazard a guess and say maybe power system error. The first thing I would check is the voltage coming out of your power adapter.

  • My early 2008 3.1, 2.8 Ghz wont boot up.

My early 2008 Mac Pro, 3.1, 2.8 Ghz will not boot up. I get the chime then the gray screen, then it continues to boot for approx. 15 seconds after which the gray screen freezes up. Previous to this condition I started getting a half orange frozen screen that would jump up and down while I was using the computer. Also, there were times during normal use where the screen would freeze with lots of lines all over that were small dashes. And now the computer wont boot past the gray apple screen. I have tried "C" boot from the install disc, "Shift" boot, "Option Boot", "Command-Control", "Command-Control-P-R", and multiple normal reboots and nothing past the gray screen. The only "glimmer of hope" is that when I do a boot from the Install CD, "C" or "Shift" I get a box which says I have to restart my computer using the "reset button" ? or pressing the power button for 2 seconds which led me back to having to restart and the gray screen situation all over. Thanks, I have a feeling I know what you are going to say. God Bless.

    Dear Grant,
Thank You for your quick reply; I believe your right, Sounds like this is just the normal response for problems like mine. I am hearing more and more about the video cards that were implanted into these Mac's. One guy said "don't even bother, get a new computer and save yourself the expense of future cards."
And when you think about the behavior of my computer it makes so much sense. The computer starts up just fine, you get the chime, it loads to the next correct screen, and continues to boot up until its time for the video card to start spitting out video, then it freezes up.
Excellent, I hope all is well.
    Thank You very much,
    God Bless All,
    Bob F.

  • Intel mac mini wont boot after system restore

    Hi,
I ran the system restore on my intel mac mini using the genuine leopard cd that came with it.
Now it wont boot. When you press power the light comes on but it does not chime and there is not video output to any monitor.
Anyone know what could be wrong?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You picked 10.4.1 in your profile.
Intel Mac Minis at minimum came with 10.4.4.
If it came with a 10.5 genuine DVD, it most certainly was not running 10.4.1 or 10.4.4. Perhaps you mistook one Mac Mini install DVD for another? Does your Mac Mini have 4 USB ports on back? What does the 10.5 installer disc you used look like?

  • Powermac G5 wont boot. Please help!!!

my PowerMac G5 wont boot, power suply or graphics card? When i press the power button is the chime and then after a while (fem minutes) the fans start revving up, all with a black screen........

See if it will come up into Open Firmware and let you do an NVRAM reset.
Hold the cmd-option-O-F key combination when powering.  If the screen actually comes up, you should see a light background with black letters.  To do the resed, enter the following three commands.
    reset-nvram <enter>
    set-defaults <enter>
    reset-all <enter>
I don't have a lot of hope, in one sense, but it you get the OF terminal screen, then that says at least that at its basic guts, the machine is sort of working, and we can go from there.  And, if it does make it into OF, the resets might actually clear things up.
