Word 2007 - Using numbered list number in hyperlink

Hi,
I'm developing a document to be used in our office to detail processes. Each of the processes are numbered using a multi-level numbered list. In the appendix section I wish to include unit tests to complete for each process to prove that the functionality
works. So far no problem. In order to keep the document dynamic I wish to add a link to each of the unit tests to link back to the original process, again not a problem. But, I'd like the text of the hyperlink to reference the specific numbered list value
for the corresponding process, and have it update should the process be moved.
e.g.
2.3.4.1 This is a sample process description.
B.1.4.3 Unit test to ensure process is functional (2.3.4.1)
Can this be done or am I asking too much?
If it can't be done then are there any suggestions for achieving similar functionality using different features?
Thanks.

Ordinary cross-references should be enough.
(References tab->Captions group->Cross reference, select "Numbered item", select the paragraph you want to reference, then insert "Paragraph number"
Strictly speaking, they aren't hyperlinks, but REF fields. You should be able to ctrl-click to follow the link.
Because they are REF fields, you need to be aware of two things:
 a. they don't update automatically. You have to select them and press F9 to keep them up to date.
 b. each one refers to a bookmark that Word inserts to "cover" the relevant paragraph number. So you have to be a bit careful about how you create new paragraphs. Suppose you have a paragraph like this
2.3.4.1 abc
and another paragraph that references it.
If you click the the left of the "a" and press Enter, you may get two paragraphs like this
2.3.4.1
2.3.4.2 abc
You might hope that the reference will update to 2.3.4.2 but in fact it still points to the original 2.3.4.1 paragraph.

  • Uneven text from MS Word 2007 using Acrobat 9

I'm using Acrobat 9 to create PDF files from files prepared with MS Word 2007.
This was all working well on my old XP PC. But now that I am working with Windows 7 on a new PC, I am getting a problem. The text in the PDF file is noticeably uneven compared with the text in the original Word file -- some letters are bunched together and others have relatively large spaces between them.
I have tried choosing 'High Quality Print' as an option in A9 but it makes no difference.
Any advice will be very welcome.
    Gerry

OK, I thought I had solved the problem but now the problem has come back.
Using PDF Maker, I am trying to set the preferences to embed all the fonts: Under Advanced settings, I have a tick in Embedded fonts and I have unticked Subset fonts. I have also set the compatibility from 6.0 to 8.0.
The trouble is that, although I am saving these settings in the joboptions file, they keep going back to what they were.
Please could you tell me what I should set and how to make sure they don't keep going back to old settings?
    Many thanks.

  • Has anyone had a problem centering labels from microsoft word 2007 using the hp photosmart 7510? my

Has anyone had a problem with printing labels centered on HP Photosmart 7510 e-All in one?  My labels are printed from Word 2007 and appear on the screen to be centered, however when I print, they are too high on the label.  Also when printing an e-mail the bottom of the page where it lists your email name is cut off.  Please help!!

    Hi,
I'd been having this problem for probably round 30 years on many printers. I bought a labels printer few years back but I don't print labels everyday now.

  • Microsoft Word 2007 - Clickable Hyperlinks in Headers/Footers

    Hi there,
I am in the process of creating a site document for a client and as it is in electronic format, I am using bookmarks and Hyperlinks to help readers navigate the document more easily.
The problem I am having at the moment is with the documents footer. Basically, I would like to have a clickable hyperlink at the bottom of each page that will return the user to the contents page when it is clicked.
Unfortunately though, I have not been able to work out how to this as the link is not clickable once the footer editor has been closed. Converting the document to PDF has not solved the problem either as the conversion removes the hyperlink completely.
Surely this functionality in a document is not uncommon? I have done a fair amount of web searching about this but have not come across any real solutions yet. Manually placing a test box with the link on each page is not an acceptable solution either
as this is a large document and will likely be edited/revised in the future.
Any help with this would be much appreciated :-)

I tried this but didnt work for mr. Can you help? How did you PDFed??
It works for me in Word 2010 (or later) using Save As PDF. It did not work in Word 2007 using the Adobe Acrobat PDF printer nor using Word 2007's save as pdf utility. (The hyperlink showed up but was not active.) It did work using the Acrobat tab in Word
    2007 (this requires Adobe Acrobat).
    I did this by:
first creating the text box with the hyperlink in the body of the document and moving it into the footer area (but still not in the footer itself).
Then I used the Format tab of Text Box Tools and the Postion button (More Layout Options).
I gave it an absolute vertical position relative to the page.
Then I cut the text box, went into the footer, and pasted it there.
It might have worked to just create the text box in the footer itself.
I personally prefer it that the header and footer are not part of the active page when I am typing. This hyperlink is not clickable in Word without going into the header/footer view and I'm fine with that. The QAT workaround is just fine.

  • Bookmark tree structure using Microsoft word 2007 not creating properly

I have a word document file in MS office 2007. When i am converting the word document to a PDF file using the HEADING option , the bookmarks tree structure  in the PDF file is not created properly. Means that the between content of a topic is also read
as a bookmark heading while conversion. Only the heading of a topic should be read as a bookmark and the sub heading as a sub-bookmark but the content should not come in the tree structure of bookmarks in a PDF file..
For Example:- if MICROSOFT is the heading of any xyz.doc then it should be the parent bookmark. . but in my case , MICROSOFT is coming as a bookmark but the content inside this is also created as a bookmark..
So my question is that what is the internal structure of the of the MS word 2007 to convert a doc to a PDF file???
Because it is not creating the bookmarks tree structure properly...and taking the content randomly from the middle of a topic and adding it in the bookmark tree structure...(which should not happen). The font throughout the doc is the same and aligned properly..so
why it is randomly taking the between text as a bookmark...???
what is the root cause of this bug..?? how can this problem be solved..?? is there any sort of change have to be done in my word doc.?
i need an urgent help regarding this...
NOTE:- I am using MS office 2007.

  • Convert Word 2007 doc to PDF, numbered bookmarks lose numbering

I've never had trouble converting a Word 2007 document to PDF before. All the bookmarks I selected converted nicely and retained their numbering. Recently my IT department upgraded me to Acrobat Pro X and I'm having several bookmark issues.
    1. Some of the bookmarks I select in the Acrobat ribbon --> Preferences --> Bookmarks are not converted and I have to manually create them in the PDF.
    2. None of the bookmarks retain Word numbering. I have Word 2007 Headings numbered in the document, but in the PDF, none of the bookmarks are numbered. This is a major pain to edit each bookmark to add the proper heading numbers (1, 1.1, 1.2, 2, 2.1, etc.).
Are these known issues and are defect corrections in the works? Is anyone else having these problems?

I'm having the same problem. As you can see, the number appears in the heading, which came from MS Word, but not in the bookmark.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled using original disk and also tried the same using Hp software download all to no avail.

  • Inability to use eps graphics in Word 2007 and make a pdf

    Hi there …
I work at a small "intellectual capital" company where virtually all of our documents (our products!) depend on embedding eps "pictures" into Word and pdf'ing the result.  While this process works great in Word 2003, it fails miserably in Word 2007 - the "mechanics" work fine and a pdf is produced, but the rendering of the eps images are terrible.  I spent some effort looking into this issue trying to find a solution and came up with the following (thanks in part to this post) ... if anyone has any more details, corrections, or solutions feel free to post!
It appears that, over the years, there have been three flavors of eps import filters for Word ... (for the curious the filter is found in Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Grphflt\EPSIMP32.FLT )
The simplest (and oldest) filter basically embeds the eps code unmodified into the Word doc and will display a raster preview of the image if one is included in the eps file.  if the file is printed on a postscript printer or to Acrobat, the eps code is passed through (so it produces perfect pdfs, and the screen image in Word looks as good as the preview image embedded in the eps file). if the file is printed to a generic printer, no image appears (so it doesn't work for joe user).
The Word 2003-era filter pastes the eps code unmodified into the Word doc, then renders a (very poor) preview image (using an OEM'd eps converter).  if a preview image is in the eps file it is ignored (which is bad).  if the file is printed on a postscript printer or to Acrobat, the unmodified eps code is passed through (so it produces perfect pdfs, though the screen image in Word looks yucky). if the file is printed to a generic printer, the poorly rendered preview image is printed (so it works poorly but better than nothing for joe user - and probably gives joe user a bad impression of eps).
In what might be an attempt to improve things for joe user, the Word 2007 filter immediately interprets the eps code (using a slightly updated eps converter from the same OEM) and pastes the resulting rendered image into Word. It NO LONGER embeds the unmodified eps code in the Word doc. While the rendered image looks better than filter #2, it still leaves A LOT to be desired - in my brief testing, colors are VERY wrong and curves become choppy. if the file is printed on a postscript printer or to Acrobat, the poorly rendered image is used since the original eps code is gone (unacceptable for my purposes). if the file is printed to a generic printer, the poorly rendered image is printed (so it works better than Word 2003 for joe user).
So where does this leave anyone that wants to upgrade to Word 2007, use eps images, and make quality pdfs ??
Filters #1 & #2 were interchangeable in Word 2003.  The true eps experts like #1 the best, and it is by far the simplest technically (76k of code vs 400+k), so they merrily swapped and used it with Word 2003.  (Very) unfortunately filters #1 and #2 do not work with Word 2007 - if they did the problem would be nicely solved.
Find another graphics file format to work with?  This is undesirable because the "beauty" of #1 & #2 above is the unmodified eps code gets fed to the pdf maker (which itself is native eps) - Word is just a transport (no "transcoding" loss in compression-speak).  if there were an efficient way to convert eps to say wmf (microsoft's proprietary vector graphic format), and the images were able to survive two transcodes (from eps to wmf back to eps for pdf), it might be livable. But of course Adobe Illustrator cannot save as wmv (nor should it IMHO).  Of note - there is another industry standard vector format - svg - which AI can save as but Word does not support.
Stay in Word 2003 doc format while using Word 2007 (don't use docx).  Doesn't work. My testing shows a Word 2003 doc file with embedded eps created in Word 2003 (and pdf's correctly in Word 2003) does not pdf correctly in Word 2007.
Use a work-around. As suggested here, "Open the EPS in Illustrator. Select all, and Edit > Copy. In Word, Edit > Paste Special > Enhanced Metafile."  This seems to work for small images such as logos, but not for larger graphical stuff (probably because of the internal transcoding to WMF).
Stay with Word 2003.  This appears to be the only workable option for now IF you want to use Word and render eps pictures in pdf's with acceptable quality.
IMHO the best solution would be to have the very simple 76k filter #1 ported to Word 2007 (those who need the capability can swap the filter files) or (not as optimal but does not require swapping filter files) add the option in filter #3 to still embed the eps code.  Microsoft is the right place to do it, or (politics aside), Adobe could and should do it (given some support from MSFT).
I am surprised this issue has not caused more rumblings from users - perhaps it has, the symptoms are just worded differently.  Or maybe everyone is just staying with Word 2003 (which is what I have done until now).  The problem is most companies are being forced to upgrade now, so I think this will become a bigger issue for Adobe / Microsoft going forward.
Thanks for listening.  I look forward to your comments.
    Andy

Microsoft has released a hot fix that supposedly addresses this issue, it is at
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977468
I downloaded the fix and tried it; it actually made the problem worse!  Apparently they
are trying to fix their filter rather than bypassing it.  What I am doing is
    1.  Making maps in AutoCaD Map and printing (plotting in autocad) them to a pdf file
    2.  Opening the pdf file in Acrobat and resaving it as eps
    3.  Importing the eps file into a Word 2007 document
    4.  Use Acrobat to convert the Word document to pdf
Before the hot fix when I did the process the resolution of the map in the final
pdf file was not as good as in the original made from AutoCad.  Also the colors were
not correct.  After installing the hotfix there are still these same problems but also now
any non horizontal text is not displaying correctly.
Be careful about trying this hotfix.
As others have noted, back in Word 2003 the above steps 1 - 4 worked very well and resulted
in a high quality pdf file with the map as good as in the original pdf.

  • How to create inconsistent numbered list style?

Can I create paragagraph style with inconsistent numbered list in InDesign CS4? I created a style with numbered list but when I apply it to the second list on another page of my document list numbering continues from last number of previous list (in consecutive order). What's up? I want to get the same effect as in Microsoft Word.

Yesterday I created new discussion on topic of numbered list style.
Then I found out about Restart numbering not working for numbered lists created w/ paragraph style one and began to experiment.
I would like numbered lists to begin with #1 by means of style as on this page.
I did it using Numbered List on the Control Panel. It does what I want.

Secondly, I’ve also created the Numbered List style as Dominic Hurley advises:
This is result (see 3 JPG):
And this is the final result of my work (see 4 JPG):

It is still all Greek to me.
Please help me to understand this. What am I doing wrong????

  • MS Word 2007 to PDF Conversion problem links & bookmarks

I have a 200 page MS Word 2007 document in which I added hyperlinks to jump to embedded bookmarks within the document.  I choose Save As --> PDF to convert the document.  Once the document is converted, some of my links work perfect (I can click on any part of the underlined word) and half of the links only allow me to click on the white space preceding the link and the previous word.  Further, words that start a line of text always work.  Words that are within a paragraph force me to use the white space to the left of the word.
    Please reference the example below:
The first "Nick" below would work perfectly (i.e. I could click on any part of the word) and it would jump to the bookmark.
The second reference to "Nick" will only be clickable in the space between "that" and "Nick" on the second line.
The first "Sally" in line one will "look linked" but I am only able to click on the blank space between "that" and "Sally".
The second "Sally" will work at anypoint in the word because it starts a line.
Ely will only be clickable between the "." and "Ely".
I have tried to save the document in every possible combination of settings.
    Thanks for the help.
EXAMPLE: I would like to click on a persons name and have it jump to the end of the document where I have placed the biographies.
Nick is going to the store because he believes that Sally will be there
when he is back.  Ely thinks that Nick is really not a good person, but
    Sally thinks otherwise.

Are you using "Adobe PDF" or "PDF or XPS?" I sounds like "Adobe PDF," but trying to be sure. Have you updated your Acrobat to the latest version? If not, try that.

  • Word 2007 Acrobat X Pro Plugin adds garbage to PDF Headers

I'm generating PDFs from Word 2007 using the Acrobat X Pro plugin, which is inserting garbage into some of my headers during the process. I can actually see it happen during PDF generation. The Word headers and footers are enabled and the garbage suddenly appears. For some reason, its usually an 0B prefix attached to the headers.
It doesn't happen to all headers and not with any pattern or consistency.
    Any ideas?

Thanks, Steve.   It's just aggravating that I have to go through an extra set of steps to do this on a Mac.
    I appreciate the help!

  • How can I customize Microsoft Word Outline Numbered List Templates with AppleScript?

I wrote an applescript to set up a word document with the appropriate styles to give the document an academic setup, much like what Xelatex produces. This is a work in progress and I have a problem.
I have successfully applied the style changes to each Header and I have applied the desired outline numbered list template "list template 5 of list gallery 3", however I would like to add tab stops to each one in order to make each header look slick like in Latex.
To do what I want manually in Microsoft Word 2011 mac I would click Bullets and Numbering, customize, under text position i would check the tab stop box and put in some value (1 cm, for example)
The following is an approximation of the result of running this script on a document with headings 1-9 applied consequently to each line, respectively. Note how they are not even. I think this is an issue with the template, but I want to be able to run this script on any mac without extra template files.
    1    Heading 1
    1.1    Heading 2
    1.1.1    Heading 3

  • RH8 Linked Word 2007 docx - not all hyperlinks convert

I'm brand new to RoboHelp. I'm linking Word docs instead of importing, and some Word cross-references are not turning into RH hyperlinks. Most of them work just fine. The ones that don't work look like hyperlinks; they are blue and bold (picking up the correct style from Word) but when I check the HTML, there is no code for a link. All the links in Word were created the same way: cross-references to Headers. Many, but not all, of the dead links have the first letter underlined. Some functional links have the first letter or word underlined too, as well as the whole link underlined.
Do only certain levels of headers convert to links (e.g. H1 and H2 only) or is there a maximum number of links allowed per Word docx? Why are only fragments of the links underlined?  I saw a few related questions in forums about hyperlinks not converting at all, but most of mine did convert. If none of them had, I'd know I was missing a switch somewhere, but since most of them work, and they were all created the same way, I'm not sure how to fix.
The Word documents were created by converting FrameMaker 7 documents to FrameMaker 9, then exported as RTF (the export from Frame 7 was not really usable). I created a Word template, created new documentx from it, then copied the RTF text. The cross-references all had to be redone, as the links in Frame were not to headers, but to manually created bookmarks.
I'd really like to keep the source docs in Word, so that I don't have to make all the future updates myself (the coders already use Word; they have no time to learn RoboHelp). Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
Thak you, Debbie @ Tronia Systems

    Hi Susie,
I've been pulling my hair out for two days over these darn links that won't convert
I have Headings level 1-5 in my Word docx. The project settings in RoboHelp specify to create new HTML pages for Headers 1, 2, and 3. It is some, but not all, of the Header level 4 and 5’s that are not converting to links in RH. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it or not. That's the frustrating part – if ALL the Header 4 and Header 5’s didn’t convert, that indicates one kind of problem. But most of them DID convert. And they were all created the same way!
In Word 2007, creating cross-references to headers was the easiest way to create my links, so I created all of them that way. For the stubborn ones that just wouldn't convert to RoboHelp, I tried every other way I could think of to create links. This is the only way I could get them to work:
From the Insert ribbon, click Hyperlink instead of Cross-Reference
Link to: Place in this document
Select place: pick the header destination
It takes much longer this way, but it works. If you come up with a more streamlined solution, please feel free to share

  • Using 'save as' in word 2007 corrupts a field in rtf template

I am working on a cheque template using Word plug-in (Word 2007).
I have created a number of fields to display the micr line. Examples of 3 of these fields are below. I am using micr mt font 12pt to display the micr line.
    <?if@inlines:PaymentAmount/Currency/Code='CAD'?>
    <?xdofx:'C' || lpad(PaymentNumber/CheckNumber,8,'0') || 'C'?>
    <?end if?>
In most cases, if I make a change to the template and preview as pdf (which automatically triggers a save), the output of the micr line is fine.
If I make a word only change (i.e add a carriage return) or if I use 'save as' (i.e. when I am making a back-up of the template with a different name) and preview using pdf, the Micr line does not display properly. Instead of the micr line, I see the text from the field itself (i.e. <?end if?>) displayed in micr mt font which means a bunch of boxes and other strange characters.
It isn't just the preview output that is broken. If I generate and compare the actual xsl-fo stylesheet, there is a section missing in the broken version, and it is replaced by the strange characters.
If I go in and re-enter the code into the fields, everything is fine again until I save using 'save as' or preview after a minor 'word only' type change such as a carriage return.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
    Thanks,
    Tam

    This does not sound right.
I highly recommend you to report this to Oracle Support (open a SR).
    Include:
    - The product version (5 digit number)
    - Include steps how to reproduce the issue (if possible with screenshots)
    - Include example (either RTF and XML file and steps to reproduce).
Give no excuses to Oracle Support to come back with a vague answer
it seems you have found a bug.
    cheers
    Jorge
