Word 2008 Automator Convert to PDF

I'm trying to create a workflow that converts either Word, Excel or Powerpoint presentations to PDFs. I can accomplish these tasks separately but I don't want 3 separate actions in my right click menu. Is there a way for a workflow to chose between which document type to convert?
Example:
Get selected finder items -> Convert format of (Word OR Powerpoint OR Excel) documents (to PDF)

No they would open in adobe rather than word.  One of your support people was on my computer today and says he fixed it.  I’ll let you know if the problem continues.  Thanks for responding.

  • Links in Word do not convert to PDF

I have a word document I created in Word 2008 with a lot of links. When I convert it to PDF (Print, Save as PDF), the links do not work in the conversion to PDF - Adobe Acrobat.
I can't figure out what the problem is and I have a ton of similar files to convert.
Does anyone know how to fix the problem?
    Thanks

Yes and you keep rubing it in. ;-)
It just sufficient enough to say its not in Mac Version.
You don't have to sound proud of the fact. Or appear to be thumbing your nose at Mac Users about it. We have it tough enough, and no amount of complaining to adobe and other software companies does any good. Until Mac users turn out to 50.1% of the market share will anything change. :-(

  • Using Word doc after converting from PDF

I have just purchased Adobe Export PDF purely to complete a Job Aaplication form in Word rather than PDF but the Word document does not allow me to edit it properly - i.e. I cannot expand the text boxes to make them bigger and when I try to add in information like my name and the post I'm applying for, it moves existing text from the original PDF doc onto different lines. I assumed once I'd converted it I could use it like a normal Word doc but it seems not. Please advise what I'm doing wrong, thank you.

    Hi Disc9,
In order to help you. Let me know which application of Adobe you are using including the version.
Also let me know the complete workflow how you convert the PDF to docx/doc.
    Regards.

    Hi Whiteowl 1957,
What are you using to convert the Word file, and what is happening when you try? Do you get an error message? If so, what is it?

Can any one please tell me which software I can use to detect whether a Word document is converted for a PDF file or typed from keyboard.

Hello David, thank you for the reply, it is a nice suggestion you gave. I should ask the question from Microsoft, they must have the answer. I have one more question. I would be very nice if you could help me with that too. Here is the link:

  • Rendering problems when Word document is converted to PDF

Why are sections of my Word files missing when I convert to PDF with Acrobat 11?
These gaps are apparent with postings on the web using Firefox but not with other browsers

    Hi jas64,
What version of OS you are using? Have you updated Acrobat to 11.0.6 version and checked.
After converting to pdf are you trying to view the pdf on a browser? Or have you uploaded the pdf on to a website and then viewing it?
Is Firefox using Acrobat / Reader to view the pdf files or is it using it's inbuilt pdf viewer program?

  • Can Automator convert a PDF file to an Excel File?

I have a PDF file I would like to convert to Excel can someone show me how to do that with Automator, if possible. Thank you.

Hi Charles, No it can not do it with Automator without using other programs. Like adobe acrobat or such.
I could be wrong and sometimes I am. But I don't think so this time. There are online conversions that will make the format into excel.

  • Why do words run together in the word doc I converted from PDF?

It happens not all the time, but randomly and frequently. Also, when I try to edit,I have to hit 'delete' before beginning a new sentence, or all of the inserted letters pile into one space! In other words, it's basically unusable. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help.
    --Charlie

This most often occurs when Word can't handle the font that was brought over in the conversion process.  Try selecting the text you'd like to edit as a part of a larger block (such as a whole paragraph or page) and change the font to something else.  This often helps.

  • Word 2008 doc saves into multiple docs instead of one PDF

I have installed Acrobat 9 Pro and am trying to print a Word 2008 doc to a PDF. Instead of creating and saving as one document it splits it into several whenever the page set up changes from profile to landsacape or vice versa. This happens whether I use the PDF print button or the Adobe Printer option. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Cheers.

I am afraid to break the news to you, this has been an on going problem with Acrobat converting Word File to PDF.  Its been a problem from the get go. Adobe says, its Microsoft's Problem. Microsoft says its Adobe Problem, they both blame Apple. Problem, is Apple licenses the PDF subsystem used OSX since day one from Adobe; and, the problem existed in OS9 which didn't use PDF as the the underlying print/display engine, which tends to point the finger to Adobe. Another thing point to its adobe's problem, is that Microsoft has been waiting patiently for adobe to fix the problem since day one about 10-15 years, So they desided in Office 2008 to use their own built in Converter for PDF. This reduces the problem of breaking the pdf up only if you have a shift orientation.  The problem lies in Adobe either doesn't know how or can't figure out how, or doesn't want to be bothered with finding out  how microsoft Page and Section breaks work. They are unique to Microsoft.
The cure is to either use Word 2008's Save as... Command then choose PDF.  In which case unless you have a chart or something that should be in Landscape mode, will make a complete PDF.
Or to take the pieces that are created by Acrobat/Distiller AdobePDF Print Drive and doe the following:
Open the first part, scroll to end
Then go to Edit menu and choose Edit menu  > Insert Pages
Locate second part and choose okay or insert.
    repeat 1-3 with next section
Continue doing this until all the pieces are together.
There is no way around this problem other than not using page and section breaks and not using charts or items that require viewing in Landscape orientation. Which may or may not be realistic.
If you must use items in landscape mode my suggestion would be create them separately and, then when printing, print them speparately one copy, then place the chart where you want and use a Copy machine to make the copies in the right order.  Or use my direction above to insert them in proper place.

  • Automator application: Rtf's converted from pdf's do not open and word files from same rtf's are blank--???

I found directions for converting pdf's to word documents to facilitate editting.  The process used Automator by selecting
pdf's to be converted to rtf's.  The resulting rtf file could then be saved as a word document.  The problem is that the resulting
rtf's do not open and the saved word document opens blank.  What's the problem and the solution?

mns579 is correct, but it is even more complex than that. To put it bluntly, the only thing a PDF is guaranteed to do is print. There is no guarantee that any PDF will convert into any format other than an image (for printing). Some PDFs are composed of actual text or vector data and those are nice to work with, but not commonly encountered. In fact, pretty much the only time you are likely to have a PDF in a format that can be easily converted is when you have the document in some other original format from which you made the PDF. And, if you have said original format, why do you need PDF?

  • Converting .doc file to PDF using Word 2008 - does not convert as is..

I am trying to convert a .doc file (Word 2008) to a PDF file.  I have tried using the save as function and the print function.  Both will work however everytime 2 things happen:
    1.  The PDF file splits into 2 files (the document is 20 pages long)
    2.  In one area of text, two words are overlapped (in the PDF version) but are not overlapped in the .doc version.
How do I convert the .doc to a PDF with out these two items occuring?
Thanks in advance for your help
    T.

I do not think this is an app but rather a function of MS-Word, the very function that does not work with high fidelity on Mac.  Any document of substance (greater than 10,000 words, imbedded images, figures, tables, or high formatting) will not convert accurately to PDF on Macbook Pro.
Using newest MS Office with updated service pacs, and experienced users. This is a puzzling incompetency on the Apple team's side. And there have been no fixes.  One could argue this is a MS problem since the software is theirs.  Probably true, but the problem occurs on Mac platforms, not PC platforms.  Apple can drive improvements.  Not sure Apple customers can.

  • Why won't my word document converted to PDF save?

When in word, I select the option to convert to PDF, the document is scanned and I'm prompted to save as PDF. All seems to work except it doesn't actually save! This was working previously until an update a few months ago. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

First, have you removed from Printer Utility the Adobe PDFPrinter 9.x fom the list then close Printer Utility.
Then open Acrobat or Adobe Reader and go to help menu and choose to repair or rplace. Choose to replace the PDFPrinter only.
(One thing that we can't seem to get Aodobe to fix is that (at least in X.4.11 and I've heard some folks using X.5.x talk about.
When you go to page setup in Acrobat you can not select any Printer what so ever.
Does not even pickup choices in the Print/Fax Control panel in system preferences.
However you can choose it in the Print menu.
IF you decided to install Reader, you may or may not be able to set printer in Page setup.
However, if you can set up in Reader's page setup. It will show up in Acrobat's.
Its an obvious bug Adobe refuses to admit or can't fix. I've heard some say they've heard the problem but never seen it.)
Next, open Word 2008 or 2004 (don't remove 2004 it has far more features than 2008)
    create your Document.
Save a copy as DOC or DOCX document first.
Now go to Print menu and choose Acrobat PDFPrinter 9.x(x being the most current revision).
and choose Print. with the version 9.x  the pdf will automatically be set to desktop and you have no choice where it save.
All versions previous to 9.0 a window would come up giving you a chance to choose the dsired location.
9.0 does not. THis is a super major bug, that only a rank amature would committ.
One thing Apple has preached fro day one; do not save any file you want to keep to the desktop.
The desktop is a Temporary file. and in event of a crash the desktop is rebuilt and the file may go missing.
Items such a Yahoo widgets get by, by using a special Database that tells where each widget is supposed to go, and and in event of  crash simply recreates them.

  • How to setup word docs, converted to PDF on local drive with links to a second file at a page

how to setup word docs, converted to PDF on local drive with links to a second file at a page
Need to setup a set of word documents, converted to PDF that has links from one file to a second file at a given page.
I would like to setup a set of pdf documents, on the hard disk of a PC or Mac, that can be open with acrobat pro running on the same computer and have the link jump to, and open in a new window, in acrobat pro, to a given page of a second document in the set.
Is there a way to setup a link in word and the conversion to pdf that will result in a link that is equivalent to the acrobat link type  you get when you add a link of the type Go to a page in another document?
    Tools-Advanced Editing-Link tool, make a box
Check: Go to page view, Next (Create go to view dialog opens)
Open second document and go to page
Click “Create go to view dialog” to set up link
Result is a link, when view by link properties, with an action of
Go to a page in another document
    File: C:\My Documents\second file.pdf
    Page: 43
    Zoom level: Custom
I got close but did not solve the problem:
I have a version that uses links to a website, using #page=43 at the end of the hyperlink.
That works but will only open to the page if is through the web browser, opening the acrobat reader plugin.
I need to open from a folder on the local harddisk (with relative links), in acrobat pro to the given page of the pdf, on a PC or a Mac.
I could bookmark each page “pagenumberxxx” and jump to the bookmark/page if that would get around some problem
Current Systems in use to create documents with links and view them:
    Windows XP SP3
    Word 2003 SP3
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.4.4
    Or just to view them:
Mac OS 10 Lion version 10.7.4
    Acrobat 9 pro version 9.5.1
(note I have limited understanding of Mac’s)
    John

No.  There seems to be no automated way to do it.  You can of course go into the PDF and manually add links after you have converted to PDF, but that is what we want to avoid having to do.  We want it to be automatic from the Word doc.
