  • Unable to save MS Word and Excel 2010 and 2013 onto the network share

    Hi,
I have read similar cases, but did not work out on the problems we face.
We are using Office 2010 and Windows 7 and it seems like only this combination will encounter saving problem on the networe share (but local / removable disks are fine) -
    Other combinations:
Windows XP and Office 2010 - no problem
Windows XP and Office 2003 - no problem
Windows 7 and Office 2003 - no problem
In Microsoft Word 2010, when saving a new document, it will save but create a 0KB file in the network share drive and I notice the blue menu bar of the Microsoft Word 2010 still displays "Document1" instead the new file name.
And only when I click save icon or exit button, Word actually prompts another "Save As" dialog to save the file, and as a result, I have to save the same file and answer MS Word prompt to replace the existing file - and this is the real time that
the document and its contents really got saved. And the blue menu bar then displays the actual file name.
In Microsoft Excel 2010 (also Powerpoint I suppose so), in saving a new excel file, after typing in a file name for the new file in the network share location, it will prompt a dialog box indicating the "File is currently in use"
Similar to MS Word, it will still create a 0KB file in the network share, and only a second time saving and replace the 0KB file, is able to save the file again.
I have tried a lot of ways from Safe Mode, Disable Add-in, Added Trusted Locations to the network share in MS Word and Excel, Uninstall Antivirus software, redo NTFS permission on the network share server folder, etc but the problem cannot
    be solved.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
    Kind regards,
    Daryl

    Thank you Max.
I have tried various storage configurations and share the folders out in Windows Servers and grant user accesses with AD.
These drives configuration involves iSCSI drives, using NAS drive, using internal SAS RAID drives in Windows 2008 servers, all having the same errors, but the latter one was having the most errors almost every first time the users
save their files (includes saving from email attachments), the files will get 0KB.
I have tested LAN cables, switch LAN points in panels and switches, and comes to no avail.
I have patched with the latest office updates (the latest being Office 2010 SP2) also to no avail.

I should further say the files I sent are .xlsx and .docx files.  They look fine my end and I send such files all the time without problems.
However, I did try to cheat by going in via the Safari onto my 'live' online email account and the Safari automatically transfers them to winmail.dat files with the same result.
Ahh - have just been on using my PC this time and you are right, it seems that the service provider does the transfer and then when my outlook opens the file (on the PC), it must reconvert to .xlsx etc again.
    Very strange.
Ergo, I guess the question should be how I open wimail.dat files ??

  • Outlook 2013 won't open Word and Excel attachments

Had a new PC set up with MS Office 2013 programs.  Outlook 2013 Word and Excel attachments do not open.  Program opens, but to a blank screen.  This includes my attachments created on the same computer.  Boxes in "Trust Center"
are unchecked.  Problem persists.  It is possible to save the attachment, then open Word or Excel and see the saved file, but this is time consuming and annoying.  Outlook 2013 should just open its attachments from the message without a thousand
    extra steps.  Thank you.

    Hi Gish,
    Thank you for your question.
Did this issue occur in OWA?
We could open outlook->File->option->Trust Center ->Microsoft Outlook Trust Center->Trust Center Setting->Attachment Handing->Attachment and Document Preview…
Then we make sure all option have check. And didn’t uncheck “Turn off Attachment Preview”, or rebuild the profile to check if the issue persist.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,

Just adding to what CSound has said.
Pages and Numbers will change Word and Excel documents when they open and close them.
Sometimes the change is subtle and sometimes not. With the latest versions of Pages and Numbers, more likely not.
So don't think you are going to work with MsOffice files without problems. You will always have something not right and in some cases really annoyingly not right. Like having all the text from Pages appear bold in MsWord, or page breaks in the wrong place or some objects and graphics not appearing in one or the other.
If working between different Operating Systems and MsOffice files, I also recommend LibreOffice. It opens and saves nearly all file formats. Unfortunately not .pages or numbers. Yet. The folks at LibreOffice are busy adding to it all the time, and making sure it works in all Operating systems, Mac, Windows and Linux and they are promising iOS as well soon.

  • The dock in Maverick is doing strange things to word and excel files

For years (and Mac operating systems), I have kept Microsoft word and excel documents on my doc. I use these documents frequently...click on the file icon in the dock, it opens, I edit and save. Click on the icon again and the saved document opens. so simple.
Since upgrading, I click on the icon, the file opens with a number following the file name (version number I assume) but before docx or xlsx. I edit and save, but get a "save as" box. Now I have to edit the file's name, find the original and replace the original with the new version. Not so simple.
Since I open and close my daily billing log many times a day, this has slowed me down (and irritated me).
I have had no other problems with my Maverick installation and these files are in Word and Excel 2008. This does not happen to powerpoint or any other file I tried so far.
Any suggestions on how to solve this?

Your Mac will generate a new .plist file automatically after restart.
Deleting the .plist file shouldn't delete any app icons from the dock.
Check the startup disk just in case.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys.
From there you can access the built-in utilities to repair the disk using OS X Recovery

  • Office Home and Student 2013 error message with yellow triangle

I have been using my word and excel they were working fine. Now there is a yellow triangle  top right corner by my initials. I finally got it to show me only for a moment what it means. Error Message: did not realize I should have copied it down but
after error message it said to sign-out and sign back in. I have never had to sign in before the Office was installed in Dec 2013 by Best Buy. All they returned was the card they had used to download. When I tried to click on sign in it does nothing. The error
seems to have the word program very mixed up as it will preform some task but seems to lock me out of other normal things I usually do like spacing or changing font size just to name a few. I already checked for all updates on my computer per your sites suggestions.
How do I make the error message /yellow triangle go away and allow me to use the office home and student 2013 like it was working before. Please help I live alone, and near 60, live in the boondocks, and do not have any computer people within a 4 hour drive
    round trip. Thank you

Now there is a yellow triangle  top right corner by my initials.
    Hi,
As per the description, it looks like an issue with your microsoft account. Does the error message look like below?
    ACCOUNT ERROR
Sorry, we can't get to your account right now.
To fix this, please sign in again.
You mentioned that "a yellow triangle  top right corner by my initials", you probably have already signed in with an acocunt. If you remember this account, I'd suggest you click
File>Account on the tab, click Sign out under
User Information, and then sign-in again. If you don't have this account, you probably need to contact the retailer for it.
If issue persists, please post back with the details of your system environment, then we will take a further look.

It's recommended to download and install

Acrobat 9 - we are unable to merge word and excel files into
    a pdf. Any advice?

To be expected if you are working in a contemporary OS and contemporary MS Office suite.
The Acrobat 9.x product family passed into End of Support mid-year of 2013.
The product isn't compatible with contemporary OSs or Office suite.
You may have to step up into the Acrobat XI product family.

  • Are operating files only within Windows (C:) or are Word and Excel files ok in Documents and (C:) folders in 8.1?

A Microsoft tech said "oh-oh" when he saw Word and Excel files, and I think other files, in Windows (C:). He said only operating files should be in that folder or a user might delete an operating file by mistake. I have Word and Excel files in
both (C:) and Documents folders. There is some overlap but there are different files in each. When I open a Word file it defaults to (C:) not Documents. Sometimes default location is SkyDrive. So unpredictability is my experience. The questions are what is
correct default and how to make it so.
Microsoft store in San Diego transferred files from old computer to new one and this default is how the computer was set up.

    Hi, Tyro.
What a mess. Usually system files in the Windows folder are protected from being deleted by users, but not all of them.
    Here are some ideas:
Go back to the Microsoft store and tell them to fix it. They caused it, it was their mistake, they are responsible to fix it.
If that is not possible because they are too far away... find another Microsoft Store if possible and have them fix it.
Last resort: If it was me, I'd just back up all the files that I care about onto my SkyDrive (now OneDrive) account or a reliable thumb drive. Then do a factory re-image. Maybe back up the files and make the MS store do it. If I had purchased Office
2013 (it sounds like you have Office 2013), then I would have them reinstall that as well.
Keep the store involved because it is their fault.
At least call the MS store in San Diego and ask them what they suggest. Put them on the spot. They are the ones that screwed up and are responsible for the copying process.
    Good luck!
    Best wishes, Davin Mickelson

Window pops up saying can not complete request data base error, disk is full

I am using the latest ID version with update and I am using a Mac running 10.9.5. This all started when I tried to make a PDF file from a pub I was working on. • Download error:disk was full. How do I download more shows?

I received a download error: disk was full. What do I need to do to download shows?

I had the same problem. The Apple TV (first generation) was set to streaming, so it being "full" didn't entirely make sense. What's more, it meant that the options to remove content were not available. I finally solved the problem by resetting the Apple TV to its factory settings and starting over. It won't even allow me to choose "Streaming" for setting it up now. So I have it set up as a "Synching" Apple TV.

  • Printing issue with microsoft word and excel

I open Microsoft 2004 Word and Excel separately and clicked on File / Open....not responding and so force quite. I went to Finder and opened the file directly and It did. But when I clicked Print, the print page doesn't show up. I closed the file. I opened other softwares and tried the Print and Save as PDF and it worked. I booted several times and reinstaled the Microsoft 2004 from original disk and did updates up to 11.6.3 versions. I rebooted again and still the same problem. Please help !

If you applied the Security Update from a few days ago it sounds like you are affected with this problem:

Have not a clue if this a LION problem or Microsoft problem.  My gut says Microsoft as they acknowledge the problem in their support section.  Their solution:  Open files with previous version of Word.  That is completely unacceptable as a solution in my opinion.  Why would have I ever bothered to upgrade to 2011 if I had known I need to keep a version of 2008 running on my computer.
Honestly I don't know if it's a Lion or MS problem eihter. I have been using Lion for many months with Office 2011 with no problems though. The earliest version I had on my machine was 2008 and 2011 opened those files with no problems at all. As Dave mentioned earlier he opens Office 2004 files all the time with 2011.
One thing you might want to do is restart the computer while holding down the Option key then select the Restore Volume and run Disk Utility and repair the Disk Permissions on the HD. Run DP at least 2x.
