Word docs don't display fonts since upgrade to 10.6.

Word docs don't display fonts since upgrade to 10.6.  Got this error message in Console:
6/14/11 9:38:14 AM          [0x0-0x11011].com.microsoft.Word[140]          Tue Jun 14 09:38:14 Michael-2.local FontCacheTool[144] <Error>: ATSFontGetPostScriptName failed: error -984.

Thanks but I searched and searched there.  Nothing listed that addresses this issue.  Am I the only person to upgrade to 10.6 and have a problem with seeing type in Word afterwards?  Does anyone understand what the error message means?

  • 3.1 Bug? - Images don't display properly after upgrade to 3.1 from 3.0

When pages are displayed after the upgrade, the image appears the first time the page is opened. Once a user goes to another page, then come back to the page with the image, the image is no longer displayed.
This happens when the browser is set to "Check for newer versions of stored pages". When it checks for the new version, the image is not displayed.
This looks like a Bug? Is someone working on a fix for this?
    Thanks.

    Scott,
Thanks for this information. It is very helpful. May I put you through one last contortion, please?
I would like to see what information is being passed in the HTTP header in the request for one of these broken images. If you have Live HTTP Headers or Firebug for Firefox, or Fiddler for IE, this should hopefully be easy. You don't seem technically challenged in the least, but just for the record, here's what I did using Firefox:
    1) Ran the Timesheets application
    2) For the very first icon on the left "My Timesheets", I right-clicked my mouse and chose "Copy Image Location"
    3) I opened up a new tab in Firefox and pasted the URL and then hit enter to retrieve the image
    4) I turned on Live HTTP headers and then clicked Refresh in my browser.
I am most interested in the If-Modified-Since HTTP header. The full request on my system was:
    GET /pls/apx11c/wwv_flow_file_mgr.get_file?p_security_group_id=191046216955701077&p_fname=eba_timesheets.png HTTP/1.1

  • Word docs don't open full screen on iBook

My brother, up in Maine, I'm in NY, has an iBook with Word X on it. (I don't know the version of OSX he has but he probably hasn't updated it since he bought it... I am not sure of the model of his iBook either. I can find out.) His main complaint is that Word documents don't open full-screen (once he drags the window to fill the screen) upon reopening or with new blank documents.
I am wondering if Word doesn't like certain screen resolutions. I don't know what he is using now but I have suggested he try some others. Does anyone know if Word docs won't act right under certain screen resolutions? Or if it is something else, what can we do so that docs open fully.
He bought the Mac thinking it was easier to use but this one thing has kept him from using it at all! He is using this for his business, a used book shop, and would use Word to list books. I hope to fix this so he can see the value of the Mac.
    Cheers,
    John
(who's been using Macs for years.)

We really need to know which version of the OS he is using, and the iBook model would be good to know, too.
You may want to poke around on Microsoft's Mactopia and see if there are some hints for him there.

  • Websites not displaying correctly since upgrading to FF 10.0

Since upgrading to FF 10.0 on Mac OS X 10.7.2 i have noticed that some sites are not loading correctly or they do not function like they used to.
    For example:
    1. The login page for Tumblr displays just the background image, not the login form.
    2. In the Art section of Newgrounds i can no longer change the content filter by clicking on the icons.
However these sites still work fine with Safari and Chrome. For now i am moving to Chrome unless someone knows what is happening and how i can fix it?

  • Album frames don't display properly: Since .MAC converted to MobileME help?

ORIGINAL MESSAGE POSTED TO APPLE SUPPORT
Ever since .MAC was recently down - and converted to Mobile Me - I have been having problems with my iWEB site:
    1. Frames around Photo Albums no longer display (on mac or win web browsers)
    - On Windows Computers - The Frames do not Display at all
    - On Mac (Safari or Firefox) they all look like see thru WIRE frames
    2. iWEB text box frames (that were once hidden) now seem to Display and
they display in weir positions over and under other boxes.
    3. Safari Web Browser now ask to load certain fonts!
    4. Browsing my iWEB site is VERY VERY VERY SLOW!
    - From home
    - From work
    - over at friends
In other words the speed of a persons internet connection does not seem to
make any difference. It was all beautiful and fine before the transition, and now
    its slow.
I have not done an upload to .MAC from iWEB for several months - so I don't believe it is anything I have done.
My iWEB site is our FAMILY TREE site - so family members have been calling and telling me of the problems and the slowness over the past week.
PS: I like the extra 10GB of storage, and the new Mobile ME features seem cool --BUT I MUST GET our family iWEB site running smooth once again.
I have just recently upgraded to Leopard and for the most part everything is running fine - but as stated - I have NOT performed an iWEB upload using Leopard - the last was two months ago under Tiger.
    MacBookPro Intel Core Duo
    2.16GHz processor
    2GB RAM
    120GB Harddisk
Mac OS X 10.5.4 (Jaguar - just installed July 7)
    Second posting to Support
    Hello,
Ever since the transition - I'm still having the following problems with anyone trying to view my iWEB site (uploaded over 2 months ago before the Mobile ME transition).
(of note: I performed the MobileME system update yesterday and that did nothing)
    1. Website redraw is VERY SLOW
    2. Text Box FRAMES are now Visible - when they were not before!
    3. Viewing my WEBSITE that I built using iWEB - the FRAMES applied to Photo and Movie Albums do not display properly as they did prior to the Apple mobile Me conversion. (see attached screenshot).
As stated I have not done an iWEB upload for over two months - and everything was working fine until this Mobile me conversion. Now when viewing on Mac or Windows all of my Photo Album frames display improperly (they look like see through wireframes) when viewing in Safari or MS Explorer. NOTE: The albums will NOT display at all using FIREFOX.

Since I recieved no responses I assume no one knows. Thanks anyway.

  • Excel & Word file don't display text after 10.6.4 update

Installed 10.6.4 update last week on an iMac and the cells within my excel sheets went blank. The data is still there but do not show up on screen. Tried several variation of start up and even reinstalled Office only for problem to exist still. New documents will display text but most of my existing office documents appear blank.
So... Today I reinstalled snow leopard and my text was back & displaying until I ran the OS updates. Every thing was fine until 10.6.4 and poof!!! there went my text in office. This glitch even effects some existing word documents. Graphic, images and pdf's don't seem to be effected. Any body else having this problem?
    Just dumb founded....

I've been experiencing the same issue. I upgraded to 10.6.4 and I lost several fonts. The interesting thing is I also lost several power point images I had created. Shapes and lines were missing even though they did not involve the offending fonts, at least not directly. There was text elsewhere in the image that used it. Why this should obliterate the rest of the images I don't know.
The three offending Fonts for me were:
    1) Times New Roman
    2) Arial
    3) Brush Script MT
Anywho, I managed to fix this on my machine so I'm posting how I did it here. I'm not so sure as to the why, but here it goes.
On my machine I have 4 font folders
    1) -> System -> Library -> Fonts
    2) -> Library -> Fonts
    3) -> Users -> Me -> Library -> Fonts
    4) -> Applications -> Office X -> Office -> Fonts (yes, I'm still running Office X from 2000)
Inside of the Font Book application, it was kind enough to point out I had duplicate fonts. Some of these were the fonts in question and others caused me no troubles. Go figure. Anyway, disabling one or the other of the duplicate fonts did not fix the problem.
Here's what did, though. In my case the duplicate fonts existed in the second of the font directories above (henceforth referred to as Font2) and the third of the font directories listed above (Font3). I browsed to these directories and copied the fonts to my desktop to have a back up. Back in Font Book, I told it to remove each instance of the Arial and Times New Roman fonts that would not display correctly in Excel (for the moment, I left Brush Script MT alone, kind of like a control)
Now at this point there were no Arial or Times New Roman fonts in my Font Book. Turns out they were removed from Font1, Font2 and Font3, so good thing I have a backup.
    1) Opened up Excel. It did its font menu optimization thing and sure enough, I couldn't see anything.
    2) I close Excel.
    3) I double clicked on Times New Roman that I had in Font4. Font Book opened it and I chose to install it. It put it in my Font3 directory.
    4) I opened up Excel. It did its font menu optimization thing. Suddenly I can see Times New Roman again!
    5) I close Excel.
    6) I double click on the Arial Font from my Font4 directory. Font Book opens it and I install it to my Font3 directory.
    7) I open Excel, it does its font menu optimization thing and suddenly I can see Arial!
    8) I close Excel.
Now at this point I'm wondering if my old font files got corrupted and because I was installing using the ones from my Font4 directory (which avoids the system directly) I was getting them back. So to test, I told Font Book to remove Times New Roman again, I go through the test of opening and confirming in Excel, and then I install the Times New Roman font from my desktop that I had copied out of the Font2 directory. Everything works fine in Excel. So it's not the file that was bad.
I was also wondering if I needed to remove all instances of the fonts or if just one was causing the trouble. So I go back to Font Book and remove the instance of Brush Script MT that was in my Font3 directory. When I opened Excel I still couldn't see anything.
I reinstalled the copy of Brush Script MT from the desktop and tried removing the other instance of the font, the one from the Font2 Directory. Excel still shows nothing. I then reinstall the associated font file from the desktop. Excel still doesn't like me.
Finally, I removed all instances of Brush Script MT and installed at random one of them from the desktop. Suddenly Excel likes it.
So I don't know what the problem was, maybe an associated was bad, but either way the only way I could get my fonts back was to remove all instances of the bad fonts from Font Book and then install the font again.
In between removing and installing I would go into Excel where it would refresh its Font list at startup. Not sure if this had anything to do with it either.
All my fonts now display correctly and all my powerpoint drawn images show up as well. I hope this helps someone else!

  • Problem with Courier font since upgrading to Office 2007

    Hi everybody,
Since we upgraded to Office 2007, one of our Acrobat users (he is the only person in the firm really using Acrobat actually) has problems when exporting Word documents to PDF.
So he is using Word 2007 and Acrobat Pro 9 (included in the CS4), he is modifying documents that were created with earlier versions of Word and the problem he has is since he has upgraded to Office 2007 (he was already using Acrobat Pro 9 without problem with Word 2003), text in the Courier font is replaced by those rectangles like unknown characters :
So I would like to know what has changed in Word 2007 that makes it that the Courier font cannot be exported to a PDF (from what I read it is one of the standard fonts always included in PDF readers), if I can change some settings to fix it without modifying all the Word documents or at least get a warning when it is going to happen.
Indeed the user's biggest concern is that he doesn't even receive a warning that that specific font won't be output correctly so he might change only some text or images in the Word document and export it to PDF and he will still have to check the whole document to make sure there was no Courier text that didn't make it through.
P.S. He is using the Adobe PDF printer to do the export.
    Thanks.
    Jonathan V.

Actually, I have a bit more information to share :
In the PDF files created before upgrading to Office 2007 (with Word 2003), I can see that Courier - Type 1 - ANSI is partially embedded (I thought it was supposed to be one of the base/system fonts).
I tried to export one of the Word documents affected again, replacing part of the Courier text with the Courier New font to see if it would work, the text in Courier New is showing correctly while the text in Courier still shows as squares.
When I check the fonts in the PDF file, CourierNewPSMT - TrueType - ANSI, is embedded (not partially ??) and Courier - TrueType - ANSI is partially embedded.
So I don't understand why Courier was embedded as Type 1 (but it worked) and now it supposedly embeds a TrueType Courier font that doesn't seem to work.
Again, the major problem is that there is no warning that the font won't output correctly, so you have to check the whole document again or you might end up with some parts unreadable.

  • Display problem since upgrading to Mavericks on my Macbook pro

I have an early 2011 Macbook Pro 13" and I have just upgraded to Mavericks and since I have the screen has not been right
Inconsistency across the screen with purple flickering
Any idea how I can fix this
It works fine but not ideal as this is my portable Photography Mac

I would take it in for diagnosis. The problem is probably not related to OS X 10.9.

  • Pdfs and word docs started not displaying correctly in browser. How do I fix this?

Until about a week ago, when I would open a pdf or word document in Firefox, it would open in a new Window and I could view it without download. Now, when I open a pdf, it shows some lines, but no text. I can only view the document if I then download the document, which will display correctly. Today, I tried to open a Word document from Firefox. A new window opened and it told me how many pages there was, but all of the pages are blank.
Is there a way to fix this? I like not having to download the documents unless I want to save them.
I'm using Firefox 37.0.1 on a computer running Windows 7 Enterprise, Service pack 1.
    Thanks,
    Jessica

Ok. My computer ran updates last night and today it works. So, I'm good for now. If this happens to anyone else, I'm not sure how it was fixed besides the fact that my computer ran updates and restarted.
    Thanks,
    Jessica

  • The Home page fonts are microscopic and my email has reduced fonts since upgrading to this version. I do not see any method to adjust in Help.

Fonts on the home page can not be read because they are so small. when I go to my email the fonts are reduced from the previous version of Firefox. I have looked at all of the help topics and I can not find a resolution to change the fonts to a larger size.

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: <b>View > Zoom > Reset</b> (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Zoom_text_of_web_pages
You can use one of these extensions to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages:

  • Combining Word Docs in PDF

We are using Adobe Pro X in our business.  We have a computer that will not allow MS Word Documents to be combined in PDF. When they are right clicked it doesn't give an option for "combine supports files."  When we go through the program and not just right click and try to add them to the combine function the Word docs don't appear in the file options.  It's almost like the Word documents aren't a supported file format for combining.  We have the program on 10 other computers and they all work, so I know if must just be a setting.  On a side note, we were having the same problem on this particular computer before we upgraded from 9 to X.  Any help would be appreciated.

Can you provide background on the system? Version of Word, Acrobat point version, and OS? Have you tried using the Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool to remove Acrobat X Pro. and then reinstall -- especially since you've had problems in the past.

  • Problems with saving pdf as a word doc

    hello, i
recently upgraded to acrobt x pro, and i went to convert a one-page pdf into a word doc.  i went to "file,"
"save as," "word document, and when i went to view
the word doc, the format/layout/font, etc. was completely garbled.  what could i be doing wrong?  thanks!

Your problem is likely with the PDF not having the tags that provide the format information you are expecting. Such information is not needed for the PDF, but is used for the conversion back to WORD. You could try converting a file from DOC to PDF and back to DOC with both a print to the Adobe PDF printer and PDF Maker to get the format info. See how they compare and you should get the idea.

  • Problems opening Word docs with form function

Does anyone know how to open a Word doc & keep the forms function? I have to fill out quarterly reports. When I open this type of Word doc, Pages eliminates the checkboxes and text boxes. A pain point, but Word doc is still usable.

  • Can Form Fields from uploaded WORD docs become Sharepoint columns ?

    Hello -
We are in the process of uploading many Word docs from Shared drives to Sharepoint (2010 )
Some of the Word documents have information stored in Form Fields. For Example : BuyerName & SellerName. These fields need to be used in SP for sorting, filtering etc.
We have tried creating columns on Sharepoint with the same names (BuyerName & SellerName) but the information from the Word docs does not display in the corresponding Sharepoint columns once the docs are uploaded.
Any advice on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated !
