Word table boarder conversion problems with shaded cells

Hi
We are using Adobe Acrobat 9 and Word 2003
When one of our users converts a document that contains word tables that have shading in them some of the cell boarders are missing on the PDF.
If you remove the shading and convert the document the table boarders are displayed correctly.
Does anybody have any idea if this is a known issue with Acrobat or is there a setting that needs to be chnaged to get this to work?

What versions of both programs and how did you create the PDF? Can you post an example of the PDF?

I cant cant use mail merge feature in Winword in conjunction with Abobe Acrobat 10 (pdfmaker add-in) after the recent Office April Windows and Office Updates.

Hi,
As the event log indicated, this is due to acrobat pdfmaker office com addin doesn't work well with Microsoft Word.
I would suggest you go ahead and try to upgrade your Adobe product to the latest version and see if issue persists.
Or contact the support of Adobe and see if there is a known compatibility issue or not.

Table cells - Problem with merged cells

Hi
I was experiencing very weird behavior with my tables until I realized that it was caused by merged cells
My script gives a dialog which allows the user to choose from which column to start and from which row.
As the script iterates through the cells in the selection I was getting weird results
Through using .select() function I was able to see that depending on the column, some times row 5 could be which seems to be row 3!
The reason was because of merged cells in that row
I.e., when some cells are merged together, only the first column of those merged cells is recognized - the others are not
so it comes out that when merging cells from column 3 to 5, column 3 has a cell in that row, columns 4 and 5 do not, and column 6 does!
Is there a way to get around this behavior?

I don't understand the point of your post.
If you're trying to report a problem or "bug" with Pages, that is not the purpose of this user-to-user forum. You should leave feedback for the Pages team on this page.
I've not had a problem opening Word files with tables in Pages. If you're saying Word can't handle tables with merged cells, then don't use merged cells in files you are going to export as Word. Word & Pages must handle merged table cells differently, as I know both can do that. As far as RTF, Pages can open & export as RTF. Again, if you are going to export as RTF, don't use tables. Neither of these is a fault of Pages, just limitations of the formats/programs.

Problems with vertical cell borders and the default table style

When laying out tables in Word, I like to use thin horizontal lines (cell borders) and thick-ish white vertical lines. The vertical white cell borders create a subtle negative space that is less cluttered than the typical boxed-in-all-sides style.
Issue 1.
In Pages, horizontal cell borders seem to take precedence over vertical cell borders so my vertical white line trick doesn't work. Is there a way to force my vertical white cell borders to "show up" over my think black horizontal cell borders?

So, for the time being, I'm not using vertical white cell borders in tables; instead, I set the vertical cell borders to "none." Unfortunately, when I try to set the default table style using a table with no vertical cell borders, Pages adds the vertical cell borders anyway. Does anyone know a way to get Pages to surrender?

I checked and here, aftere defining a new default format with vertical lines set to none, this format is used when I cvreate a new table.
But the same with horizontal lines doesn't apply.

Printing problem with gray cells in smartforms

Hi there,
i have developed a smart form with some color logo and some gray shaded cells. If i print it by SAPLPD it comes out fine but when i print it on a printer configured in SAP it doesnt come out properly. All the gray cells print as black cells. Any advice?

it some times depends upon the printer drivers also
i faced the same problem with one printer then i tried with the other hpcolor printer then i got the printout perfectly that means sometimes the drivers of the printer will crash with the program
so its better u try this one in the another printer
if u have this problem futher let me know

Converting Word to pdf. Problem with page breaks

I have Office 2007 and I am trying to convert a 100 page word document into pdf. However, the pages are breaking different and I end up with more pages in the pdf document which causes problems with my table of contents and index. Any advice on how to convert the Word doc exactly into pdf? Thanks

Michael's reponse is correct. However, as far as I knew, OFFICE 2007 came with printer metrics turned off, meaning it is not supposed to be sensitive to the printer selection. The setting is buried in the options list for compatibility. If it is turned off and a change in printer does affect the result, it would appear just one more of the many things in OFFICE 2007 that MS messed up. The latest one for me has been helping students with the messed up equation editor when you want to add equation numbers in a "standard" way. One of the MS employees even wrote a workaround macro for that problem.

Word 2011 for Mac - problems with font color

After reading others' problems with Word, I feel lucky I've got only this small one: I can't change the color of fonts! When I click the arrow next to the Colored A, I get a blank menu! I've found a few others with this problem on the web, but no clear, simple solutions. Anybody got one? I'd really appreciate it!

Hi,
You can use function module "XXL_SIMPLE_API"
or alternatively use "XXL_FULL_API".
On the import, parameter name "N_KEY_COLS" is used to colour fields. The headings are automatically coloured. 1 is the default value.

Problem with adding cells in dynamic table

I have a very simple table set up for listing prices. Only two columns. One is the description and the other is the cost. I've used a previous posted Java script but Adobe will not let me put in prices.
This is the script:

Ok, I figured it out. I had to go down another subform. I remembered Adobe viewed tables as a type of subform.

Problem with coloring cells in dynamic fieldcatalog

I am trying to color cells based on the values in the cells. Here we are using dynamic fieldcatalog and internal table to build the ALV grid.I am getting problem in adding a field to the fieldcatlog which is of type lvc_t_scol. This Part of the code is used to build fieldcatlog dynamically.

It is not possible with the METHOD cl_alv_table_create=>create_dynamic_table to include another table inside that newly generated table.
I have tried to do it with the code and I got the dynamic table created after at the end of the program.

HTML to PDF conversion - problems with page-breaks and bookmarks

My company is currently considering updating your software (from Acrobat 9 Pro to Acrobat XI Pro) and I’ve been assigned to research its features and make sure that it is a right fit for our goals. Basically we want to automate the whole process as much as possible and we want to create PDF directly from HTML. We’re providing a lot of content in HTML and we need a fast way to transfer it into PDF format. There are however some guidelines:
We want page-breaks in is this kind of documents, and thus - your app needs to be able to interpret HTML and put them where we want to;
We need to have bookmarks in there. Converter must be able to make them based on headlines from HTML source or afterwards, directly in PDF by using some auto-bookmarks feature;
There has to be table of content generated, based on HTML Link Tags if possible. Here’s sample of TOC structure that we have currently:

Of course we can modify HTML in any way you want us to. The important thing for us is to make it work in PDF without the need to make a lot of manual changes after conversion.
I’ve been messing with Acrobat 9 Pro and reading some documentation that you have provided and I’m convinced that point 3 is not a problem. I’m aware that Acrobat 9 Pro is not having any difficulties with links in document and they work fine in PDF format that has been created from HTML.
Page-breaks on the other hand are bothering me. Your app is apparently ignoring every HTML code that the Internet is advising me to use to force page-break where I want. Honestly - I’ve tested like ten ways to make them and not even one was working. That’s why I’m asking for your help.
Another problematic subject for me is the bookmarks creation. I know that they are not a problem if I’m doing DOC to PDF conversion. Then I’m able to decide what header should be used as a curtain level of bookmarks and everything is working great at the end. However - with direct HTML to PDF conversion - I really don’t know how to generate bookmarks that are based on the source of the input document. Is there any way to make fully working 2 level bookmark tree in this case? Here’s an example of the structure we want at the end:

Could you please help me in finding the solutions? Just like I’ve mentioned - we can modify input HTML in any way, but in the end we would like to achieve our goals as quickly as possible.

Frankly - we would like to avoid using Word. We are using it currently but there are long-term plans of improving whole conversion process, eliminate any mid-steps and automate as much as possible even though conversion is not going to be done unattended on a server. Thank you for your response, but I hope that maybe someone else would have any idea?

Pages chart problem with large cells

I have some documents on Pages that include charts with lots of text. If the text in a cell is longer than will fit on the page, it becomes hidden because the next page starts at the top of the next cell. Making the font smaller isn't enough. The document has been converted from a word document, although I would hope that wouldn't make a difference.

Oops I meant table not chart. It's the text in a table cell that is too long for the cell on one page, and disappears behind the bottom of the cell. It's like the cell is a window on the text, and I can't see what is below the window ledge.

Problem with structure cell STYLE

I'm working a wad report with table interface i've already changed the style's structures with the STRUCTURE_CELL method, that's ok. Also i need to control the padding-left but when i tried this the style isn't be able to change it.
It took the style that is coming from the style class sapbexlevelh2 is its hierarchy in the structure, i checked the padding-left and i set it to 0, but the page generated putted &nbsp trying to make the distance... i would like to eliminate that space....any ideas?

If you notice the values for the cell - you would also find that there would be javascript for the arrow mark on the cell - that could be your problem which causes the &nbsp..
Also it could be an issue with the WAD report trying to render the value in the same cell -

Looking for a PDF expert to advise me on conversion problems with Hindu fonts.

I guess that PDF does not support Hindi fonts so I have outlined my indesign original document.
When I do the PDF conversion, the commas add a small outline of a box above the comma. This is not in the document before the PDF conversion.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I assume you are using devanagari characters to write hindi. PDF should have no trouble to display devanagari, but this is not the end of the story.
To correctly show devanagari requires complex shaping procedures including character reordering and changing the shapes of characters, and repositioning (see Shaping: Devanagari OpenType specification to see how Windows handles this). PDF does not do any of this, but that is not a problem. Rather, the creator of the PDF must complete reordering, choosing different shapes, and changing positions, and only then can the PDF be made. It should show correctly on screen. If it does not this is probably not a fault in the PDF viewer, but a fault in the programs which MAKE the PDF (InDesign in your case).
So you need to be sure that you are using a version of InDesign with full support for devanagari including complex shaping and PDF export. If you do not have this support, it will not be feasable to set your hindi text. And if the PDF is wrong, this is something for the support for InDesign (or the InDesign add-on you buy).

File XML Content Conversion: Problem with special characters

in a file sender cc content conversion is used to transform a flat structure to XML. What we experiencecd is that the message mapping failed due to a character that was not allowed in XML:
I was assuming that the file content conversion just creates XML messages with allowed characters. Is there any way to configure content conversion to remove control characters which are not allowed in XML? Unfortunately the sender system cannot be modified.
