Workflow (Slick Debugging Tricks)

I'm trying to get into plugin dev. But I don't understand the workflow yet. And there really are no resources out there at all about this. I want to know how to make a change in Xcode 4.5.2, compile the plugin, have AE reload the changed plugin, see the change, without re-starting AE. The Slick Debugging Tricks section in the guide doesn't seem to work for me. It suggests clicking Edit > Purge > All to reload the plugin after rebuilding, but nothing happens. I can see the change I'm making when I restart AE. I'm testing this with the Checkout example and CS6.
I've also tried attaching to the process in Xcode and changing code on the fly. That was suggested here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3117259#3117259. This is not working for me, nothing changes.
I'm trying to avoid restarting AE, opening the last file, applying the changed plugin, after every change I make to the plugin. But this is the only thing that works for me so far. This can't be how you're developing plugins. Right?
Please steer me in the right direction here. Thanks.

Thanks, Shachar.
I understand in theory what that would accomplish. But your description is a little bit too high-level for me this early in the game and I imagine for other people new to this. I should have mentioned a bit of background before asking questions. I only have limited experience with C++ by using OpenFrameworks and much experience in other languages (scripting and compiled). But dlls, are something I haven't worked with yet. I know this sounds like I'm asking to be baby-fed at this point. But I'm genuinely surprised at how difficult this has become to just get started. Are there any tutorials out there about the .dll method you described? I'd need a low-level description of it.
I'm surprised that this thread has 124 views and no one other than yourself has been gracious enough to share some tips/ideas at overcoming some of the problems I'm facing. Surely someone on this board has figured out a simple straightforward approach for Xcode 4.x and AE on OSX 10.8 without having to restart AE every minute. Once I've got that part figured out, the rest is in the bag.
Or is everyone developing on Windows?
Thanks.

  • Workflow is taking so long to execute

    I have a workflow that runs every time an item is inserted/created in library. Workflow has two stages and it performs following operations
    In Stage 1-
    1. There are roughly around 120 IF statements that checks if a particular field is selected. If selected then the contents of a variable are concatenated with the old contents.
    2. Sends email to user.
    3. Create a new item in Issue Tracking list.
    In Stage 2-
    1. Assigns a user defined name to the file.
    These are very simple steps and executing them it is taking roughly around 2 minutes.
    I want this to be instant.
    Thanks.

    Hi Greetings.
    I suggest you add some logging features to the Workflow, examine the ULS logs, check that your workflow history is cleaned up properly etc.

  • Is there a debug mode for Presenter SWF published to a custom LMS?

    I've implemented a simple LMS interface (API_1484_11) in JavaScript on the page that loads the SWF generated by Presenter. The SWF is playing fine, and it appears to call the API_1484_11.Initialize() method, but then doesn't call any of my Commit(), GetValue(), or SetValue() methods. Weird thing is that is used to work fine, and I can't figure out what I changed that would break it.
    In my Presenter presentation, the Quiz Manager settings have these reporting options:
    - LMS set to SCORM (Manifest set to 2004 type)
    - Report data set to quiz results and slide views
    - Pass or fail set to report complete/incomplete
    - Score set to report as percent
    - Level set to report interactions and the score
    Is there any way to tell the SWF to run in a debug mode so it will provide some sort of information or feedback about what it is doing regarding the LMS interface?

    Ugh. So I quit out of my browser and restarted, and now the Presenter Flash is communicating with my mini-LMS interface properly. After Initialize() it calls getValue() and asks for cmi.location, cmi.score._children, etc. values. I think I've seen this happen before, where if I accidentally have two windows with a Presenter Flash object in them, they both stop working with the LMS API until I quit and restart my browser. (I'm on a Mac with Firefox but have seen this on Windows with IE, too, I think.)
    But still, I'm wondering if there are any debugging tricks with the Presenter Flash object... or any API documentation for it?

  • Problem with BAPI_PO_RELEASE in workflow

    Hi Experts,
    I have a backgrouond task for PO releases. in the method of the task , iam calling a BAPI, 'BAPI_PO_RELEASE' .when iam executing the workflow through SWUS the BAPI returnig parameters like new release code etc successfully but release strategy is not getting updated in the PO.please let me know what can be the problem?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sarath

    maybe a commit/user issue.
    Check if the containers going to the WF-task are complete and correct.
    You could try the following, if the user for this background task is wf-batch, you can set an endless loop in the method, temporary change WF-BATCH to dialog user, start the workflow and debug it with SM50.
    Now you can see if it will be executed exactly as when you do it on the foreground.
    Kind regards, Rob Dielemans

  • Workflow Custom Activity deploy in multi server environment

    I have been working on a project that involves developing a custom workflow activity for SharePoint 2013. I am developing it in a single server environment working with http.
    My problem occurs when deploying to multi-server environment with https (WFE, APP). My question is how to deploy my solution to the new environment.
    The steps:
    Create a project - c# activity library
    Add a workflow activity, add .xml
    Deploy the .dll and .xml of project to:
    "C:\Program Files\Workflow%20Manager\1.0\Workflow\Artifacts" "C:\Program Files\Workflow Manager\1.0\Workflow\WFWebRoot\bin"
    net sotp "Workflow Manager Backend"
    net start "Workflow Manager Backend"
    Deploy .DLL to GAC
        - Created MSI using install shield in VS2010 to add .DLL to GAC
        - Verify .DLL in GAC by going to c:\windows\assembly and %windir%\Microsoft.NET\assembly
    iisrest
    Deploy WSP to SharePoint, activate feature, open SharePoint Designer 2013 and choose the custom action that now appears when creating a 2013 workflow
    To recap we have workflow manager on the APP server and and the workflow client on the WFE. We deployed the .DLL and .XML to the workflow manager (APP) only. The .DLL is deployed
    to/in the GAC on the WFE and the APP. We are able to see and create the activity in Designer 2013 and we deploy the workflow to a normal SharePoint list. When we run the workflow we do not get any errors in the ULS logs, event viewer or Workflow Manager Debug
    Logs (event viewer also). The site is not created though. We believe the issue is that the custom C# (.DLL) is not being ran.
    This all works fine and dandy on my single server environment. Workflow is working like a charm. How can we trouble shoot what the issue is if we are not finding any errors?
    Is there a step that we missed or some other place we need to look for logs? Would the ULS logs show the site creation or show running our custom code? Currently it does not show anything when we run the workflow.
    Let me know if this is unclear or if anyone needs more information. Thanks

    Hi,
    Here is a workaround for your reference:
    We can develop a custom WCF service instead of the Custom Activity in SharePoint. And then use the service from workflow. It use a separate dedicated server for workflow without having any reference to SharePoint DLLs from inside workflow.

  • Why are my workflows failing?

    I have a workflow that should create or update a record in 1 list when the record in another list is updated.
    if a new record is created in List A and criteria is met, a record will be created in List B. When the record in List A is updated, the record in List B should also be updated.  However, often when the record is created in List A and the workflow kicks
    off, it doesn't create the associated record in List B. So when someone updates the record in List A, the workflow fails because it can't find the record in List B.  One of the steps in the workflow is to populate the record's ID# from List B back into
    the record in List A.  The record in List A will show the ID# from List B, but a record with that ID is not found in List B!
    When i test the workflow, it works fine.  When the workflow fails, I get the Error Occurred status so I manually stop the workflow and kick it off again, and it works fine.  So why is it failing in daily use? Could it be a timing issue? could the
    workflow take too long to run so it times out? if so, is there a way to speed it up or give it more time to run?
    I am not a programmer - I just create workflows using Sharepoint Designer 2010 - using Set Field Actions, or if then conditions and a couple of calculations.

    Put logs in the history list after the the code where you have created a record for List B.
    Follow this link which will guide you to log in the history list which will help you debug this issue.

  • Workflow Task Not Completing

    I have an odd one. I have a workflow that we have been using for over a year, (has run over a 1000 times) and have not encountered this issue with it previously. I have 1 particular running instance of the workflow that has a Task that will not
    'complete'.  Other tasks are updating/completing with other instances of the workflow.
    With this particular task, if you Approve or Reject it, the Task record gets updated (Modified date changes), but the Outcome remains blank and the Status remains 'In Progress'.
    I haven't tried to 'Terminate' the workflow yet as we would like to retain the workflow history.
    Anyone else encounter anything like this before?  Suggestions?

    Hi,
    Based on your description, my understanding is that the workflow task sticks in In Progress status.
    To solve this issue, I recommend to enable the workflow tracing log in SharePoint and check the ULS log for detailed error message.

    There is an issue with the process, it is trying to connect to the service, I don't believe it needs to be the new 11g version but the WSDL should be accessible.

  • PO: Error number 3 - Failed Activity: Does Approver Have Authority?

    Hi,
    I know, this is old known error, but I cannot resolve the problem. Many solution I have read a applied, but some workflows still shows: error number 3.
    1) user was notified by this:
    Document Manager Failed With Error Number while processing Standard purchase order 50025512
    2) error shows this error:
    Workflow Errors: XXK_POAP, 116384-269277, 50025512
    Failed Activity XXKDoes Approver Have Authority?
    Activity Type Function
    Error Name 1
    Error Message User-Defined Exception
    Error Stack Wf_Engine_Util.Function_Call(XXK_PO_WFS3Z.XXK_VERIFY_AUTHORITY, XXK_POAP, 116384-269277, 204044, RUN)
    Yes, there are customizations.
    3) for errored workflows the debug table shows this:
    for example:
    FUNCTION = fnd_trn_pipe.get_manager
    ACTION = 1|No manager defined
    RESPONSIBILITY_ID = 20420
    RESP_APPL_ID = 0
    eBS 11.5.10.2 runs on Win 2003 server.
    Thanks.
    Audun
    Edited by: Audun on 22.2.2012 12:46

    The error that appears is a generic error.
    But the activity that is erroring out is "XXKDoes Approver Have Authority" is an customized one..
    Can you ask your technical engineer to reivew the events associated with the activity, to troubleshoot further.
    If you want to confirm, whether the issue is arising out of oracle code - you can forceload the workflow and then retest the issue.
    If it still errors - you can ask "oracle Support" to assist.

  • Captivate corrupts SWFs with Audio?

    Here's my challenge. Appreciat any help:
    Project has six slides. In each slide, I've imported (as
    animation) a SWF that contains about 30 seconds of audio dialogue.
    When the project is viewed from a web server (i.e. this
    problem does not occur locally), audio from the EVERY slide plays
    during the playback of the first slide.
    Specifically, it plays about 3 seconds of audio from the
    beginning of each slide all 'on top' of each other during the first
    slide.
    Obviously, this is a problem, but I have been unable to find
    a solution anywhere and I have tried a heck of a lot of debugging
    tricks.
    I can only hope this is a bug. Otherwise, what it means is
    that Captivate is incapbale of managing the playback of any
    imported SWF that contains audio. I thought it might be some
    strange pre-loader issue, but can't figure it out.
    Have a deadline Wed that it looks like I might miss if I
    can't solve this. Would very much appreciate any feedback or
    suggestions from the communitiy.
    Thanks in advance!
    David

    I've got a similar, and perhaps related, problem. I'm simply
    trying to import a .swf file into a new Captivate 3 presentation.
    The .swf was also created in Captivate 3 (but not by me, so I do
    not have the .cp file). The .swf contains audio.
    When I "import animation slide" the .swf comes in just fine,
    but of course not the skin or player controller. This used to be an
    easy solution in Captivate 1.0, since the old skin was pegged right
    to the .swf file.
    If you watch my new Captivate 3 presentation and don't touch
    anything while that imported slide is playing, it's just fine. But
    if you click the pause button, it does not pause the animation.
    Worse, if you then click Play, the audio re-starts, so now you have
    the audio playing over top of itself.
    Is there any way to use the Playback bar to control the
    animation? I hope so!

  • How to specify approver to a Document

    Hi All,
    Here is my requirement, while uploading a document via Oracle contributor Document check-in form in Webcenter Spaces, can I mention Approver or Reviewer for that document?
    I know that we can specify the approver/reviewer at folder level. I want to know how to do that for a document.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Yes, it is possible. However, this is actually 3 questions in one - all of them are related to WebCenter Content and one slightly also to WebCenter Portal.
    1) How to specify a reviewer/approver for a workflow step?
    As written in the manual (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e10978/c05_workflows.htm#CEGGCBCA , step 16.), there are three options:
    - select a specific user
    - select a specific user's group (called alias in WCC)
    - select a token
    The first two are static, but a token can be dynamic - you have an option to write your own code in idocscript (see examples at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e10978/c05_workflows.htm#CIHDJAAE ) which may implement any logic you wish.
    2) How to allow a contributor to influence a workflow (e.g. select an approver, but also choose a workflow, etc.)?
    What a contributor does is a) entering metadata b) entering the content, so OOTB the information influencing a workflow must be either in metadata, or in content. Usually, it is in metadata - you can a variable or a set of variables which may be evaluated during workflows.
    A trick with folders is that you may pre-define the metadata for content checked-in the folder, but you still have to 'translate' the metadata settings into workflow logic by tokens.
    3) How to do that from WebCenter Portal? (Contributor)?
    Like WCC's GUI, Contributor can benefit from profiles - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e10978/c04_metadata.htm#DAFIIEEI where you can define which metadata will be displayed/hidden/filled in, etc.

  • WF_NOTIFICATION.send

    Hi All,
    I am trying to use WF_NOTIFICATION.send for the 1st time. The requirement is that I have following piece of code in my pl/sql package which is called form the function activity of the workflow. The following code is inside the loop of the supplier list. So I want to send the notification to each of the supplier picked up in the loop.
    If it not giving me any error in pl/sql or workflow, with debug I have checked it it getting correct value for l_tp_contact but still when I log-in as the supplier (user) in the worklist there is no message to that supplier.
    =====
    l_notification_id := WF_NOTIFICATION.send (role      => l_tp_contact,
                   context     => p_itemtype||':'||p_itemkey||':'||to_char(p_actid),
                                  msg_type      => 'PONAWARD',
                                  msg_name      => l_message_name);
    ===
    Can some one please help.
    Thanks!

    I am guessing, because I haven't done this with PL/SQL code before, but when you say you are looping through suppliers, is this a loop in your PL/SQL or a loop in the workflow? I have had problems before with notifications not being generated from inside a workflow loop because I had my On Revisit set incorrectly (Reset instead of Loop) on the notification step.
    Also, is the notification a response required notification or an FYI notification? Where the notification is an FYI, the status of the notification can be updated when generating the email, so querying open notifications on the supplier's worklist could be missing it where the email has been generated.
    A good check for both of these is to see if you can find anything in the WF_NOTIFICATIONS table for these notifications?

  • Object and class problem

    I have a homework assignment that i cant seem to figure out. I have to create a class that has an id, date when made, balance, interest rate (annually converted to monthly), be able to make a withdraw and show the new balance as well as make a deposit and make a new balance. Hye, please explain about the debugging statements. The teach has never explained how to use them to fix our problemsIt just means to add methods that print values at various parts in the program. For example, if you had a method factorial(), like this:
    public int factorial (int x) {
      return x * factorial(x - 1);
    }Then you could add a statement like this to see what's going on:
    public int factorial (int x) {
      System.err.println("x is: " + x);
      return x * factorial(x - 1);
    }Then when you ran this modified version of the program, you'd see that the x keeps getting smaller forever.
    Teachers should show you debugging tricks immediately.
    There are other things you can do, to make debugging easier. You can use a debugger, although that tends to be more labor-intensive than it's worth. A debugger is a program that lets you step through your program line-by-line. You can also follow some idioms to make debugging statements easier, such as:
    private final static boolean DEBUG = true;
    public int factorial (int x) {
      if (DEBUG) System.err.println("x is: " + x);
      return x * factorial(x - 1);
    }If you do this, you can turn off all debugging statements by just setting DEBUG to false and recompiling.
    There are also logging packages that let you specify debugging statements, like log4j or java.util.logging. That's probably overkill at this point though.

  • Damn These Pesky Applets!

    Whilst searching (in vain) for a solution to my focus issue, I noticed somewhere that the <APPLET> tag is depreciated in favour of the <OBJECT> tag - am I right here? I ask as formsweb.cfg still uses the <APPLET> tag...
    While I'm here, I'll clarify my issue in the desperate hope that something can be done:
    I have a button (created in formsweb.cfg HTMLbeforeForm parameter) that prints the screen using window.print(); This is required as our large rambling Forms application doesn't always enable the PRINT key due to the existence of KEY-OTHERS triggers.
    All's well until the screen print is done and you return to Forms (or at least expect to).
    Even when focus is programmatically taken away from the button, keyboard focus never seems to return to the JVM (in the same window) until you click in one of the text boxes, whereupon the cursor magically reappears and processing can continue. There are no other objects in the window apart from the button and the JVM console.
    This doesn't happen if the Key-F9 trigger is available and a screen print is done via the subsequent dialog, so I'm assuming it's an issue with mixing HTML & Sun's JVM on the same page. Also note that many users' PCs are crashing when KEY-F9 is pressed, so making that globally available within all the forms may not be an answer either!
    I am very frustrated as this would be such an easy workaround to implement as it required just a small amendment to formsweb.cfg
    Users were previously using a terminal emulator to access the forms app, so that tool's Print Screen option was used extensively - they're now using Forms 9i over the web, so this issue has reared it's head.
    Any suggestions gratefully received!

    If you remember I tried to help on this same topic before..

    I found that the above to be true also while I was searching...
    I think you need to "back the truck up" :) and get back to forms basics and add a key-print to each form and stop trying to reinvent the wheel.
    1) You can use iff2xml90 to convert the forms to xml and then add the key-print xml code to each form. Do a mass change in a text editor to each form. And then use ifxm2f90 to convert them back to fmbs. Once you learn how to do this this slick xml trick, it will be something in your personal form building toolbox for you to use, now and again, for mass changes. Like adding key-print to 50+ forms.
    2) ... Or.. Bite the bullet and open each form in form builder and add a key-print.
    3) ... Or... Post a question on a javascript forum, not here, on how to get focus from and html object (<input type="button" ....>) to an html <object> tag. Javascript experts will know exactly how to accomplish such a thing - or not.
    I also think you mean to say Key-Print not Key-F9 eh?
    If you have computers crashing when Key-Print is pressed then not using key-print is the wrong fix action. Key-print works fine in a normal installation.
    Im recommending getting back to basics. Add Key-Print...
