Workflow tips needed for setting up headless script (-noui)

My client is asking for me to create a script that can execute from Photoshop without showing the AE UI at all. For those that have created headless workflows, what tips and tricks can you recommend?
When running a script with noui, how can you tell when it's done, especially if there is a render involved?

hi all,
I actually have similar questions as well. We have a Java process that will kick off AfterEffect thru the command line "afterfx.com -noui -r myscript.jsx" to perform a render job. This method runs perfectly fine when someone actually login on the window's machine and kick off the java process.
However the whole thing runs to a crawl when we started configure the java process to run as a windows service (under the same user that we would use to normally kick off the process interactively thru live login). I can see from the task manager after effect did tries to spawn multiple processes to do the render job that was feed to it thru the myscript.jsx. But those child process would die almost instantly and then AfterEffect process would sit idle for like a minute or two before slowly perform the rendering single threaded.
Anyone here tried and successfully kick off the aftereffect process from a windows' service?
Thanks,
Joseph

    I have seen a

  • Need help setting up measurementLog scripting

I'm gruadually getting better at creating script but for some reason I can't get my brain around this one.  I'm trying to set up a script to take measurements of a series of 64 marquees created from an equal number of paths then export that log after the 64th marquee dimension is recorded.  So I"m making a selection from path, recording it's width and height, performing some operations, saving a file, making a new selection from the next path, and repeat.  Ideally I'd like to also record the location of the upper lefthand corner of each marquee at the same time.  I figure one challenge at a time.
Part of the confusion is the Object Model Viewer and support PDF's are saying one part of the process is accessed from the Application and another is accessed from the Document.  I'm not sure how that would look or what should come first.  Also I've not entirely got my brain around using file path locations in script and how to set those up so that they're universal between Mac and Windows.
All this combined is causing too many possible reasons for the dreaded ESTK "Undefined is not an object" error so I can't narrow down the reason for my test script failing.  I'm certain if I see the correct way once it'll all make sense, the clouds will part, angels will sing and all will be right... until the next hurdle or the conditions change slightly.
    Please help!  Thanks!
P.S. I can post my script this is going into if it'll help.  It's a mixture of my stuff, with a Frankensteined mish-mash of contributions I've gotten from others along the way.

Getting an answer at PS-scripts.  Feel free to post anyway if  you desire.  thanks!  Extra info is always good.

  • Advice needed for setting up hard drives.

My new editing machine is pretty well complete. Now it's time for configuring everything, so to bring it's performance up to speed.
    Starting with hard drives.
    Core Components list-
    MB- ASUS P9X79-PRO.
    CPU- i7-3930k.
    Memory- RipjawsZ 8x8 @1600. 64GB.
    GPU- GTX 670 4GB.
C: drive- SSD- intel 520s - 180GB (Windows 7 Pro 64 bit OEM is on this drive).
Plus various 7200rpm disks, and more to be added.
I had someone install most of the components for me, as I'm far too ill to handle the heavy lifting. They did a fairly good job, cept for the hard drive setup. So I need to ask some questions to help me get these drives setup correctly, and running at their full potential.
There's some questions in particular that I must ask first-
1/ For some reason they put the SSD on a SATA II port, but put a DVD-ROM drive on a SATA III port. To correct that I just swapped around the SATA data connections between the two. Windows appeared to work ok when I rebooted, but when I gave it a quick test with the WEI, the test failed.
I expected some problem to come as a result.
    Here's what it said-
After several reboots the WEI finally ran, and gave the primary disk a higher score than before swapping the connections .
My question is- Should I take the fact that WEI is now able to run the primary disk test as an indication that it's working fine, and setup correctly ?
I also ran several HD Tune tests for that SSD. It's still a bit slower than I expected.
2/ Raid-0 setup. I take it that plugging 2x 7200rpm disk drives into the Marvell ports would be the parsimonious solution, so my question there is- What is the procedure for setting up a 2x disk Raid-0 on those Marvell ports?
The two disks for RAID-0 I chose are the cheap 'n nasty model from Seagate's 2TB range. I know they're not reliable, which is why I'm not relying on them to store such things as project files, or project media (for things like that I have a Seagate Constellation ES.2 2TB) . This RAID-0 volume's sole purpose is to move along high bit rate Uncompressed Intermediatory video at an acceptable speed.
If the data is lost to disk failure it's not a huge problem. The videos can be rendered again.
I tested both of these (see images below) Seagate Barracuda's multiple times in HD Tune. Are their speeds close enough to each other to be paired together in a RAID-0 ?
    Barracuda A-
    Barracuda B-
3/ So far I have four 7200rpm drives, but wish to add two more.
The model I'm considering is the Seagate ST2000NC000 Constellation CS.2 2TB .On the surface they seem like good value, and faster than my Constellation ES.2, but what's the catch?  Are they suitable, and reliable enough to hold such things as project files?

Non-recoverable read errors per bits read:
Value line CS: 1 in 10**14 (1.065% annualized failure rate)
    See http://www.seagate.com/em/en/internal-hard-drives/enterprise-hard-drives/hdd/enterprise-va lue-hdd/
    Constellation ES2: 1 in 10**15 (0.73% annualized failure rate)
    See http://www.seagate.com/em/en/internal-hard-drives/enterprise-hard-drives/hdd/enterprise-ca pacity-3-5-hdd/
For testing whether everything works as it should, try the Passmark benchmark and Prime95 stress-test.

Yes it is possible, have played about with mine and successfully used it. You will need to bridge the connections between your internet connection and your wifi connection on your laptop.
Nowhere near as easy as using a router though.

  • Tips needed for Workflow of PR ???

    Hi All,
I am supposed to design a WF for PR object type BUS2105 and  this the scenario,
when a requisitioner has issued a purchase requisition < USD 16,000 under some buyer code e.g.,("816"), the system should change this buyer code to transaction buyer code "Q10". and PR's for certain plants in country e.g, austria are exluded.
Right now I am considering WF is triggered on creation/change of PR. and next step will be a condition where all PR < 16.000 are selected to be sent to next step where buyer code is changed to "816" but <b>what step type</b> should I use here?? I am also confused with the tasks I should use to replace the buyer code with "816" and <b>what method of the object type BUS2105</b> should I use to create this task.  and <b>how to exclude PR's from austria.</b>
Any Help is Highly appreciated and Rewarded. Thanks

    Hai
    Aleem Hajee
I dont know much regarding the functionality of ur scenario but i will try to help u from workflow part.....instead of checking the condition in ur workflow ,u better check it before triggering ur workflow.u can do it in start conditions of start events in basic data..u give a condition something like ' PR < USD 16,000 and country NE australia ' ,to do this u need to have attributes which hold the country and value of PR.so check out if they are available in BUS2105,if not create a subtype and  the required attributes .Regarding change of buyer code,i think u can use the method ' change ' of BUS2105.

  • Disk configuration and workflow help needed for lab video workstation

    Hi All,
Setting up a video editing workstation for a research lab that will use Premeire to edit AVCHD Progressive clips (sometimes with 2 streams side-by-side, but usually single-camera) and export them to .mp4 for later viewing by video coders. We won't be using AfterEffects or adding anything to the videos other than some text (titles, maybe sub-titles).
The other purpose of this workstation is to act as a file server and backup system for other machines in the lab. Coders will be viewing the exported videos via other networked machines and working with Microsoft Office files that will be stored on the workstation's other HDDs. I'll have a physical backup drive and cloud backup via CrashPlan.
I've built a machine that is probably overkill, but the client (my wife) wanted it to be "fast," and the purpose of the machine might change in the future:
    i7-4770K (overclocked a bit)
    16GB RAM
    Asus Z87-Pro
    GeForce GTX 660
I have the OS (W7) and programs on a 256 GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD and currently have two 1TB Velociraptors to use for the Premiere workflow. I'm trying to figure out how to proceed with the purchase of the rest of the drives, and I want to keep the Premiere drives separate from the large storage drives from the lab that are networked and synced to cloud backup.
Following the recommendations for a three-disc configuration I've picked up on these forums, I could set it up like this:
C: (256GB SSD) (OS, programs, pagefile)
    D: (1TB HDD) (media, projects)
E: (1TB HDD) (previews, media cache, exports)
F: (4TB HDD) (backups of media, projects, and exports and storage of other research files)*THIS DRIVE WOULD BE SHARED ON THE NETWORK
G: (4TB external HDD) (backup of F & drive that backs up to CrashPlan)
but it seems that would be a waste of the speed of the second 10k velociraptor. If I added another SSD and RAIDed the Velociraptors it would be:
    C: (256GB SSD) (OS, programs)
D: (Two 1TB Velociraptors in RAID 0) (media, projects)
E: (256GB SSD) (media cache, pagefile)
but would I then need to add another dedicated HDD for previews and exports, or could I store those on the networked F: from above (which would be previews, exports, backups of media and projects, and storage of other research files) without taking a speed hit?
It seems overkill to have a dedicated drive for exports and previews (let's make that the new F:), then have them copy to the first 4TB drive (now G:), then back that up to the second 4TB drive (now H:), then back that up to CrashPlan. However, people might be accessing that network drive at any time, and I don't want that to slow any part of the video process down.
I appreciate any advice ya'll can give me!

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for the encouraging response. I'm leaning toward the non-SSD option at this point.
To make sure I understand, are you suggesting I try using the Velociraptor Raid 0 in the 2 disk configuration suggested by Harm's Guidelines for Disk Usage chart? Like this:
C: (256 GB SSD) (OS, Programs, Pagefile, Media Cache)
D: (1TB x2 in RAID 0) (Media, Projects, Previews, Exports)?
Where I'm still confused there, and in looking at Harm's array suggestions for 5 or more drives, is how performance is affected by having simultaneous read/write operations happening on the same drive, which is what I understood was the reason for spreading out the files on multiple drives. Maybe I don't understand how Premiere's file operations work in practice, or maybe I don't understand RAID 0 well enough.
In the type of editing we'll be doing (minimal) aren't there still times when Premiere will be trying to read and write from the D: drive at the same time, for example during export? Wouldn't the increased speed benefits of RAID 0 for either read or write alone be defeated by asking the array to do both simultaneously?
Maybe the reason the Media Cache is on the SSD in the above configuration is because that is what will be read while writing to something like Exports? But that wouldn't make sense given Harm's chart, which has the Media Cache also located on the array....
Another question is, given that the final home of the exported videos will be on the big internal drive (4TB) anyway, could I set it up like this:
C: (SSD) (OS, Programs, Pagefile, Media Cache)
    D: (2TB RAID 0) (Media, Projects, Previews)
E: (network shared 4TB HDD) (Exports + a bunch of other shared non-video files)
so I don't end up having to copy the exported videos over to the 4TB drive? Do you think it would render significantly faster to the RAID than it would to the 7200 rpm 4TB drive? I'd like to cut out the step of copying exported videos from D: to E: all the time if it wasn't necessary.
    Thanks again.

I am looking for any suggestions/advice/tips on creating a interactive PDF. I have 1 title page document and this document has 8 links on it. These links will go to 8 new/seperate pdf documents. I'd like to create it so that when you click on a link it goes straight to that document and only gives you the option to go BACK to the title page.
I know I can create this with bookmarks, but with bookmarks you have a loing list on the left sidebar. The tricky part is I can only show one document and a back to title page link.
Any suggestions or tips on how to accomplish this task? I have Acrobat Pro 9.

Bookmarks are the way to go on this. You can set the default viewing of the PDF to not include the bookmarks and such (under ctrl-D for the document properties).

  • How many windows server 2014 , datacenter needed for setting three pysical servers

I have three new rack server ,each with two processor , each processor has 8 cores.
the question:- how many WinSvrDataCtr 2014R2 needed?

Technically, you would need one DC per dual processor server to run as many VMs on the three hosts as you need.
Depending on your VM workloads, running with Windows Server Standard may be a more economical way to set things up licensing wise. Check the costs for each. You get 2 VMs to install per Standard license purchased per host.
The Microsoft Licensing Advisor shows the following:
    License Only: Data Center $8,225.00
    License Only: Standard $1,179.00
Your breakeven point between the two should be fairly straightforward to figure out.

  • Configuration needed for setting revaluation of activity type rates

    Hi,
I'm not sure about the obligatory settings I should make in order to configure revaluation of activity type rates.
I know that I have to set sth in Plan version and that I have to fill the Activity Type master data in a different way than if I used them without revaluation.
Can you tell me about the settings I should make?
    Thanks and regards,
    Karol

    Hi Karol
Yes u r right u need to first set in plan version and after that its the client's discipline on transaction entry that drives this requirement.
    1)  If the transaction data is not posted correctly then activity hours will be vague and distorts the price.
    2)  You can do manual activity posting but that does solve the purpose.
    3)  Also u can correct activity hours posted for all orders in the system during month end, this also is a huge activity depending on the number of orders
    4)  Now if u wish to do price calculation thru system u need to decide on two aspects
One - plan ur costs for both activity dependent and activity independent
If your cost center has more than one activity being performed u need to do either cost splitting or enter equivalence numbers while doing activity planning
    5)  If u wish to hve prices calcualted by system, then during month end u need to run actual cost splitting and then do actual price calculation
    6)  Then u need to revaluate all your orders with actual activity prices
Hope the above clarifies - do assign points as a way to say thanks

  • Is there a need for setting undo_retention=0?

    Hi
If i set my undo_retention to a >0 value, oracle will try his best effort to keep the consistent image for as long as my undo retention value. So, i don;t see why is there a need to let oracle manage the retention for me by setting to 0.
    Thanks
    Rgds
    Ung

    Hi,
By setting UNDO_RETENTION to 0, you enable auto tuned retention
As far as I know tuned undo retention is enabled by default. Setting the undo_retention acts as a minimal threshold.
There is a difference in the tuned undo retention value between fixed size undo tablespaces and autoextend enabled tablespaces. From the 10G Release 2 Administrator’s Guide:
    If the undo tablespace is
configured with the AUTOEXTEND option, undo retention tuning is slightly different. In
this case, the database tunes the undo retention period to be slightly longer than the
longest-running query on the system at that time.
Undo Retention Tuning and Alert Thresholds For a fixed size undo tablespace, the
database calculates the maximum undo retention period based on database statistics
and on the size of the undo tablespace. For optimal undo management, rather than
tuning based on 100% of the tablespace size, the database tunes the undo retention
period based on 85% of the tablespace size, or on the warning alert threshold
percentage for space used, whichever is lower. (The warning alert threshold defaults to
85%, but can be changed.) Therefore, if you set the warning alert threshold of the undo
tablespace below 85%, this may reduce the tuned length of the undo retention period.

  • Workflow advice needed for transferring large VHS Collection w FCPX

I've used FCP 7 for years to upload old vhs tapes, organize them by year (if unlabeled before uploading) -- break into 2 hour segments, output as QT reference movies to iDVD and create DVDs with automatic chapter markers every 10 minutes.
Now I'm using FCPX and I have so many questions.  Most of the tapes are 20+ years old but still look pretty decent.
First, when I import (using Canopus ADVC-300) - should I check any of the balance color or analyze and fix audio boxes?  I would love to be able to reduce any hisssing sounds -- but how much extra time would this add to the process?  Analyzing the audio doesn't seem to take TOO long --- not sure about the color -- but is it worth it?
After each import, the background task shows rendering taking place -- why is this happening?
Can I continue to import more tapes while rendering and at the end of the day let all the rendering happen or would this overwhelm the system
Can I add chapter markers automatically at intervals in FCPX?
Finally...outputting to DVD.  I don't believe that exporting a QT reference movie is possible with FCPX.  Since I"m talking nearly 200 hours of footage here -- exporting to a self contained QT file to use IDVD doesn't seem to be a good use of disk space.  Is there anohter way to use iDVD?
I'm planning to try the very basic "create DVD" options from within FCPX.  But would really love to have some nicer DVD menus if iDVD was an option.
If anyone has managed to go through a large VHS transfer process using FCPX - I would love to hear any tips/tricks to speed up and improve my workflow.
    Thanks in advance - Jenny

Whether it's worth it depends on the content and whether you think the color as shot is accurate. It can always be done after import.
After each import, the background task shows rendering taking place -- why is this happening?
    Optimize media may be checked.
Can I continue to import more tapes while rendering and at the end of the day let all the rendering happen or would this overwhelm the system
Probably OK, depending on your system. Try it and see.
Can I add chapter markers automatically at intervals in FCPX?
I don't know of any way other than to move the playhead in 10 minute intervals and mark manually. (Actually, I know how that's done in earlier versions either.)
You're correct about no reference movies.  The recommended workflow is export a master file and bring that into iDVD. When you archive your projects you can always trash unnecessary files and/or archive them on relatively inexpensive USB drives.
I've never tackled as many hours of digitizing as you're contemplating, but I have made some substantive use of VHS in FCPX projects – with variable, but generally satisfactory results. Good luck with yours.

  • Instructions needed for setting up Linksys WRE54G (wireless range entender)

    Hello all,
I've got an SMC Barricade Wireless Broadband Router (SMC7004AWBR, 802.11b, 11Mbps, WEP 128-bit encryption) with a range that I need to extend.
I've purchased the Linksys WRE54G which is supposedly compatible with any 802.11b or 802.11g wireless device as well as compatible with Macs.
Of course I can't use the "Set up Wizard" provided with the WRE54G since that only works on PCs. However, the WRE54G is supposed to be able to "use the Web-based Utility to configure the Range Expander, then connect the Range Expander to your network. Open the web browser of a networked computer, and enter the Range Expander’s IP address, 192.168.1.240"
I tried this, i.e. typing in 192.168.1.240 into Safari with the following combinations:
    my Mac's Airport card "linked" with the WRE54G;
    my Mac connected via ether net cable to WRE54G;
    my Mac's Airport card connected to the SMC Barricade which was supposedly linked to the WRE54G wirelessly;
    my Mac's Airport card connected to the SMC Barricade which was connected t0 the WRE54G via an ether net cable;
    my Mac connected to the SMC Barricade with an Ethernet cable which was connected to the WRE54G via an ether net cable;
all of these combinations had no luck (Safari just spun) and I could never load a page to configure the WRE54G.
I've seen that other people in these discussion groups have used the WRE54G with success. Could one of those people please give me some hints or instructions on how to get things working?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Jim

While I was unable to get my Lynksys WRE54G router to function (I’ll explain why in a minute), I did learn some things that may be of benefit to others trying to get this little beast to work.
Most importantly, your base station (whatever the brand) must have “Wireless Distribution System” or “WDS” capabilities, and that functionality must be turned “on” before attempting to auto synch the WRE54G. For Macintosh, there will be a tab on the AirPort Admin Utility (after launching the application, click on your base station, then click “Configure”).
Surprisingly, it appears that many base stations do not have WDS capabilities. AirPort “Graphite” and “Snow” do not; AirPort Extreme and Express do. (Of course, my AirPort is a Graphite, so I was SOL).
However, this experience did point something out to me: Mac people (like me for 21 years now) are used to simply plugging something in and having it work. We don’t understand what’s “behind the curtain” and, when we have to work with that “stuff”, at least I get lost very, very quickly.
A couple of years ago I spent many frustrating hours getting a Lynksys access point to work with an early iMac (it would not accept an AirPort card and thus I had no other choice for wireless networking). Now the WRE54G. I am done with non-Apple gear like this -- it’s just not worth the frustration to save a few dollars.

  • Tips needed for multiple iPods and users with one PC...

We are a family of four, with four iPods and one PC. We have two (Windows) user accounts set up. My husband and son share one, and my daughter and I use the other. My husband's and son's music does not show up in my user library and visa-versa. There are some songs that my husband has purchased that I would like on my iPod, but there are songs that my daughter has that I DON'T want on my iPod. Is there a way to set up 4 separate librarys that can choose to share (or not share) songs?
      Windows XP

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library and or user account or
    b) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page:
Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library:
    Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option (which you've already tried) is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
