Working with directories in JFileChooser

Ok as usual I do not want code done for me but a nudge in the right direction would be helpful.
Essentially I want to use a JFileChooser to select and iterate through a directory, if there is a directory inside that I need to open it and iterate through it as well. I know a recursive function will probably do me jsut fine however, I cannot seem to be able to get my JFileChooser to select the directory in such a was as to let me work with it.
Yes I do have the
JFileChooser.setFileSelectionMode(JFileChooser.FILES_AND_DIRECTORIES);I currently have the ability to copy files, etc... with no problem. But have not been able to figure out how to select a directory and then iterate through it calling my copy functions and whatnot.
I can get the current directory just fine, I can return false from File.isDirectory when I have a file selected. Now how the heck do I declare a directory variable/object to work with? or is that the completely wrong approach?
no I do not have an sscce to post as I have not figured out any code for the directory functions at all.
I have read through the api and tutorials and did not see what I need nor has Google been much help. If one of you nice patient pro's could point me to the proper link to figure this out that would be great. or a very generic sample on how to select and manipulate a directory from JFileChooser. Please don't tell me it has to be done with a JTree as I will have to shoot myself in the both feet since that would require a rebuild of the entire project... lol Thanks in advance for your patience.

lol nevermind teh last question that I just posted It hit me what the solution was. Der..
if(myFile.isdirectory ==true)
filechooser.setCurrentDirectory(myFile[i];thank you guys for your patience and help as usual. Sabr that link was in fact useful and I will be looking at it again for a later project.

  • Cfdirectory action=list not working with directories that contain an ampersand

Our IT group just upgraded one of the our file share servers from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012 R2.  We quickly noticed a problem with CFDIRECTORY listing the contents of directories that contain an ampersand (e.g. //192.168.1.10/Simon & Garfunkel/).  We are using ColdFusion 10 Update11 on Windows Sever 2012 R2 and everything worked fine prior to this upgrade.  In addition, we created the same directory locally and tried running CFDIRECTORY and the same problem occurred.  The cfm page doesn't crash or report an exception in the log, it just doesn't return any results.  Thanks in advance for help on this issue.

Thanks Adam, I just found the problem. I think it was a
problem in the database, though I'm not sure why it works on the
development and not on the production. The field that I pull the
"thename" value from is a type varchar(10) and when cfoutputted
like this [#thename#] it would result in [O MAN], however I tried
outputting it into a textbox field and it showed [O MAN ] (<---
actually "O MAN" followed by 5 spaces). The value was padded to ten
characters. I'm baffled. Varchar is supposed to be variable width
only using the number of actual characters without padding, right?
Of my own folly I was trimming the results of the #thename#
#codeno# pair and not thename itself. Once I set thename to
trim(thename) it worked, of course. I'm still very confused why
this works in the development environment and not in production,
and to why the padding to begin with. But, I will not borrow any
more trouble and just be happy it is resolved!
    Thanks for all your help!

  • Working with external fonts and director

    Hi,
when working with UTF-8 fonts or other big fonts compiling
    can be such a
pain. When having multiple big fonts I could go and get me a
    coffee
every time I compile my flash movie.
I use textfields for every font format I use so I could use
    it as linked
library member but it does not work when using it in
    director.
Does anyone know a solution to this? How to avoid compiling
    big fonts?

    Hi MK,
No, maybe I didn't express it precisely
It's not about the DB or its vendor, it's about the DB <b>schema</b>.
You can of course reuse the system JDBC driver to create a DS to this external DB, however it cannot be Open SQL (Open SQL is available <b>only</b> with the system DB <b>schema</b>)and therefore usage of SQLJ is not possible with it.
Hope it makes more sense now!

Click on the  menu at top left of your screen, choose About This Mac and, in the panel that appears, note the Version no. in the form 10.n.n. Then update your product list so we can see what version of OS X you're running on the Mac — see this tutorial:

  • Does Director work with Linex?

    hello all-
does Director work with Linex? the system requirements say no
but i was wondering if there was a hack way to make it work on the
    linex box?
    Thanks
    am

Well, you don't need an xtra to work with a database if
    you're doing online
work. Then you just simply need to write some PHP (or asp,
    etc) code to
interface to the DB and send results to Director. You only
    need an Xtra if
your DB is local to your project, such as on a CD. If that's
    the case I'd
    suggest Arca or Valentina.

  • [SOLVED] SQLite not working with PHP

For reasons unknown, I cannot get PHP to work properly with SQLite. I have uncommented the "extension=sqlite.so" in /etc/php/php.ini, ensured that PHP's configuration was being loaded from said file, and made sure PHP was working fine with my server of choice (lighttpd). Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work, as evidenced by
Fatal error: Call to undefined function sqlite_open() in test.php on line x
Which is what PHP spits at me. I've checked lighty's logs and nothing's wrong. PHP's set to send to syslog, so I'm not sure where I could check on that. Here is a quick look at PHP's setup.
    My /etc/php/php.ini:
    [PHP]
    ; About php.ini ;
; This file controls many aspects of PHP's behavior. In order for PHP to
; read it, it must be named 'php.ini'. PHP looks for it in the current
; working directory, in the path designated by the environment variable
; PHPRC, and in the path that was defined in compile time (in that order).
; The path in which the php.ini file is looked for can be overridden using
; the -c argument in command line mode.
; The syntax of the file is extremely simple. Whitespace and Lines
; beginning with a semicolon are silently ignored (as you probably guessed).
; Section headers (e.g. [Foo]) are also silently ignored, even though
; they might mean something in the future.
; Directives are specified using the following syntax:
    ; directive = value
; Directive names are *case sensitive* - foo=bar is different from FOO=bar.
    ; The value can be a string, a number, a PHP constant (e.g. E_ALL or M_PI), one
; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression
    ; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), or a quoted string ("foo").
; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:
    ; | bitwise OR
    ; & bitwise AND
    ; ~ bitwise NOT
    ; ! boolean NOT
; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal
; sign, or by using the None keyword:
; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = none ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = "none" ; sets foo to the string 'none'
; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a
; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension),
; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension.
    ; About this file ;
; This is the recommended, PHP 5-style version of the php.ini-dist file. It
; sets some non standard settings, that make PHP more efficient, more secure,
    ; and encourage cleaner coding.
; The price is that with these settings, PHP may be incompatible with some
; applications, and sometimes, more difficult to develop with. Using this
; file is warmly recommended for production sites. As all of the changes from
; the standard settings are thoroughly documented, you can go over each one,
; and decide whether you want to use it or not.
; For general information about the php.ini file, please consult the php.ini-dist
; file, included in your PHP distribution.
; This file is different from the php.ini-dist file in the fact that it features
; different values for several directives, in order to improve performance, while
; possibly breaking compatibility with the standard out-of-the-box behavior of
; PHP. Please make sure you read what's different, and modify your scripts
; accordingly, if you decide to use this file instead.
    ; - register_long_arrays = Off [Performance]
; Disables registration of the older (and deprecated) long predefined array
; variables ($HTTP_*_VARS). Instead, use the superglobals that were
    ; introduced in PHP 4.1.0
    ; - display_errors = Off [Security]
; With this directive set to off, errors that occur during the execution of
; scripts will no longer be displayed as a part of the script output, and thus,
; will no longer be exposed to remote users. With some errors, the error message
; content may expose information about your script, web server, or database
; server that may be exploitable for hacking. Production sites should have this
    ; directive set to off.
    ; - log_errors = On [Security]
; This directive complements the above one. Any errors that occur during the
; execution of your script will be logged (typically, to your server's error log,
; but can be configured in several ways). Along with setting display_errors to off,
; this setup gives you the ability to fully understand what may have gone wrong,
; without exposing any sensitive information to remote users.
    ; - output_buffering = 4096 [Performance]
; Set a 4KB output buffer. Enabling output buffering typically results in less
; writes, and sometimes less packets sent on the wire, which can often lead to
; better performance. The gain this directive actually yields greatly depends
; on which Web server you're working with, and what kind of scripts you're using.
    ; - register_argc_argv = Off [Performance]
; Disables registration of the somewhat redundant $argv and $argc global
    ; variables.
    ; - magic_quotes_gpc = Off [Performance]
; Input data is no longer escaped with slashes so that it can be sent into
; SQL databases without further manipulation. Instead, you should use the
; database vendor specific escape string function on each input element you
; wish to send to a database.
    ; - variables_order = "GPCS" [Performance]
; The environment variables are not hashed into the $_ENV. To access
; environment variables, you can use getenv() instead.
    ; - error_reporting = E_ALL [Code Cleanliness, Security(?)]
; By default, PHP suppresses errors of type E_NOTICE. These error messages
; are emitted for non-critical errors, but that could be a symptom of a bigger
; problem. Most notably, this will cause error messages about the use
; of uninitialized variables to be displayed.
    ; - allow_call_time_pass_reference = Off [Code cleanliness]
; It's not possible to decide to force a variable to be passed by reference

After the last update which installed PHP 5.3.0, I'm having a similar problem. PHP fails to recognize any extensions which I've defined in php.ini. PHP itself works just fine, so I'm sure this problem is related to the update of PHP.
    Here's my php.ini:
    [PHP]
    ; About php.ini ;
; This file controls many aspects of PHP's behavior.
E_ALL or M_PI), one
; of the INI constants (On, Off, True, False, Yes, No and None) or an expression
    ; (e.g. E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE), or a quoted string ("foo").
; Expressions in the INI file are limited to bitwise operators and parentheses:
    ; | bitwise OR
    ; & bitwise AND
    ; ~ bitwise NOT
    ; ! boolean NOT
; Boolean flags can be turned on using the values 1, On, True or Yes.
; They can be turned off using the values 0, Off, False or No.
; An empty string can be denoted by simply not writing anything after the equal
; sign, or by using the None keyword:
; foo = ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = none ; sets foo to an empty string
; foo = "none" ; sets foo to the string 'none'
; If you use constants in your value, and these constants belong to a
; dynamically loaded extension (either a PHP extension or a Zend extension),
; you may only use these constants *after* the line that loads the extension.
    ; About this file ;
; This is the recommended, PHP 5-style version of the php.ini-dist file. It
; sets some non standard settings, that make PHP more efficient, more secure,
    ; and encourage cleaner coding.
; The price is that with these settings, PHP may be incompatible with some
; applications, and sometimes, more difficult to develop with. Using this
; file is warmly recommended for production sites.
Instead, you should use the
; function addslashes() on each input element you wish to send to a database.
    ; - variables_order = "GPCS" [Performance]
; The environment variables are not hashed into the $_ENV. To access
; environment variables, you can use getenv() instead.
    ; - error_reporting = E_ALL [Code Cleanliness, Security(?)]
; By default, PHP suppresses errors of type E_NOTICE. These error messages
; are emitted for non-critical errors, but that could be a symptom of a bigger
; problem. Most notably, this will cause error messages about the use
; of uninitialized variables to be displayed.
    ; - allow_call_time_pass_reference = Off [Code cleanliness]
; It's not possible to decide to force a variable to be passed by reference
; when calling a function. The PHP 4 style to do this is by making the
; function require the relevant argument by reference.
    ; - short_open_tag = Off [Portability]
; Using short tags is discouraged when developing code meant for redistribution
; since short tags may not be supported on the target server.
    ; Language Options ;
; Enable the PHP scripting language engine under Apache.
    engine = On
; Enable compatibility mode with Zend Engine 1 (PHP 4.x)

; NOTE: Using short tags should be avoided when developing applications or
; libraries that are meant for redistribution, or deployment on PHP
; servers which are not under your control, because short tags may not
; be supported on the target server. For portable, redistributable code,

; Output buffering allows you to send header lines (including cookies) even
; after you send body content, at the price of slowing PHP's output layer a
; bit. You can enable output buffering during runtime by calling the output
; buffering functions. You can also enable output buffering for all files by
; setting this directive to On. If you wish to limit the size of the buffer
; to a certain size - you can use a maximum number of bytes instead of 'On', as
    ; a value for this directive (e.g., output_buffering=4096).
    output_buffering = Off
; You can redirect all of the output of your scripts to a function. For
; example, if you set output_handler to "mb_output_handler", character
; encoding will be transparently converted to the specified encoding.
; Setting any output handler automatically turns on output buffering.
; Note: People who wrote portable scripts should not depend on this ini
; directive. Instead, explicitly set the output handler using ob_start().
; Using this ini directive may cause problems unless you know what script
    ; is doing.
; Note: You cannot use both "mb_output_handler" with "ob_iconv_handler"
; and you cannot use both "ob_gzhandler" and "zlib.output_compression".
; Note: output_handler must be empty if this is set 'On' !!!!

; Valid values for this option are 'off', 'on', or a specific buffer size
; to be used for compression (default is 4KB)
; Note: Resulting chunk size may vary due to nature of compression. PHP
; outputs chunks that are few hundreds bytes each as a result of
; compression. If you prefer a larger chunk size for better
; performance, enable output_buffering in addition.
; Note: You need to use zlib.output_handler instead of the standard

  • AIR-LAP1242G-E-K9 do not work with AIR-CT5508-K9 while AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9 do

    Hello,
we do have a site where we need to deploy AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9 and AIR-LAP1242G-E-K9 APs. We have two AIR-CT5508-K9 controllers with SW version                  6.0.188.0.
AIR-LAP1142N-E-K9s work okay, as expected, we do not have any problems with them.
However AIR-LAP1242G-E-K9s do not, there is a problem with establishing CAPWAP tunnel with the controller. The AP is seen on the controller for a while, with 0 time up-time, cannot change any settings on the AP via controller, and after a while it disapears from the controller, apears again and this repeats.
The APs and controllers are connected to the LAN campus.
Controllers via two 1G links configured as Etherchannel to WS-C6506-E VSS switch with s72033-ipservicesk9_wan-vz.122-33.SXI1.bin on it.
APs to WS-C3750G-48PS with c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-50.SE2.bin on it. 3750 is connected to the C6505 via two 1G links configured as Etherchannel.
Below I copied the log I captured on 1242 and the controller. Highlighted ones are the ones which I think might bring a clue.
    I performed some troubleshooting steps.
    - As we have some other controllers available over WAN, I  tested the 1242 AP  with 2100, 4400 and also with the same model AIR-CT5508-K9 with SW version                  6.0.188.0 over WAN and this worked always okay.
    - I wanted to be sure that I eliminate any kind of out of sequence packet issue, so I brought down all redundancy L2 links so that the L2 path from the AP to the controller was only through one leg links.
    - I also brought the second controller down to eliminate potential issue with having two of them up.
    - The AP gets its IP from DHCP configured on the C6506 switch, I am always able to ssh to AP, so the IP connectivity does not seem to be an issue.
    - I have more 1242s, all behave in the same way. I also connected them to some other 3750 switches we have in the campus, always the same.
    - As this seems to be maybe a kind of ssl issue, I tried to play with controller settings, like enabling Accept... options  under Security/AP Policy, but this did not help.
    - I also tried to reboot the controller, no improvement.
    - The APs came from the factory, so in the beginning everything was factory default in them. They were always able to download the image from the controller in the very initial phase. I still do have some of them untouched, so I can perform any troubleshooting steps with the fresh one.
I can reproduce this, can also send debugging logs if needed.
Any idea on what could be wrong is highly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Thanks for such quick response and suggestions.
Yes, I seem not to to be 100% perfect as for the list of troubleshooting steps I took.
I had already tried the two commands you mentioned. I tried again, this time with some other 1242, but these do not help.
Yes, I was already thinking that this could be in theory a licensing issue. The controller is bougth with 25 licenses.
In the beginnign I had one 1142 on it and tried to enable 1242s which did not work. Now I have five 1142s on it, as this worked okay, I guess it could not be a licensing issue.
I think that I can see in the log files that the machines communicate to each other, L2 or L3 paths seem to be working okay. I forgot to mention that I am using option 43 on the DHCP server, so the AP clearly finds its way to the controller. What's more both APs and the controllers are in the same VLAN, so they are in the same broadcast domain.
Below is sho ver from the AP. The AP seems to have Certificate type - manufacture installed, so I guess there should not be a problem with the certificate, especially knowing that the AP works with other controllers over WAN.
My guess these messages seen on AP especially "Invalid event 38 & state 3 combination" might tell us what's wrong.

  • Problem Working With Framemaker 9 Dita XML Files in Framemaker 10

I just upgraded to Framemaker 10. I am encountering a number of problems when I try to work with my Dita XML help topics, which were last saved in Framemaker 9 format.
    1. Using the Default Dita Template
When I open one of my documents in Framemaker 10, the Dita 1.2 template ditabase.fm is automatically applied. Everything seems fine. But then when I convert the XML to Eclipse help (which is essentially html, so we're going from XML to HTML) using Dita Open Toolkit ant scripts, I see this message:
[pipeline] [DOTJ013E][ERROR] Failed to parse the referenced file 'html\c_licensing.xml' due to below exception. Please correct the reference base on the exception message.
[pipeline] c_licensing.xml Line 25:Attribute "xmlns:ditaarch" must be declared for element type "dita".
I then opened the xml  file in a text editor, and I saw this on line 25:
    <dita xmlns:ditaarch = "http://dita.oasis-open.org/architecture/2005/">
Line 25 looks fine to me. Am I missing something?
    2. Switching to a 1.1 Dita Template
I tried to work around the above problem. In Framemaker, I tried to set a different structured application as the default one. I closed all files and chose the default Dita 1.1 structured application (it defaults to the Dita 1.1. Composite app.)
Then I tried to open my file: I got this message inside Framemaker:
    "Validation of XML failed. Continue?
Error at [FILE PATH], line 25, char 72, Message: Attribute '{http://www.w3.org/2000/xmlns/}ditaarch' is not declared for element 'dita'
    Sounds familiar, doesn't it?
I switched from the default Dita 1.1. Composite structured application to the Dita 1.1. Topic structured application. Then I dirtied the source file and saved it. The messages I got in FrameMaker log window included the one above, plus I got a variety of Unknown Element messages, things like this:
    Unknown element dita,
    unknown element concept,
various attributes are not declared for concept,
    unknown element conbody.
If I switch back to the Dita 1.1 Composite application all of these messages diappear except for this one:
Attribute '{http://www.w3.org/2000/xmlns/}ditaarch' is not declared for element 'dita'
My ant conversion scripts from the Dita Open Toolkit are still unable to process this file. They give the same message as is listed in (1) above and the file is not converted to HTML.
Can anyone help me with this problem? I've also posted this question to the Dita Users Group on Yahoo Groups. If I get an answer in one place, I'll post it in the other.
    Thanks,
    Nina P.

I really appreciate all the help you are providing with this, Scott. I tried your latest suggestions. Here's what happened:
    Application Mappings:
I figured out how to add my "BigPage" structured application to the Applications Mappings dialog. I made a new "BigPage"  mapping type, then figured out the non-intuitive part: how to add my individual BigPage topic types to it.  I closed and reopened FrameMaker opened my test document, and, as before (before I did the application mappings) I saw my BigPage applications listed in the Structure Tools > Set Structured Application drop-down. I selected the appropriate application (in this case it was DITA1.1-BigPage-Reference-FM and clicked the "Set" button.
It is at this point in Framemaker 9 (and also once, in FrameMaker 10, early in this process, but I haven't been able to replicate it since) that the page size would change to tabloid size, indicating that the document was using the template from the BigPage reference structured application, not the regular DITA1.1 reference application. But this did not happen.
I tried saving the document, closing it, and reopening it. Once again the default structured application assigned to that document was "reset" to DITA1.1-Reference-FM.  But the fact that the page size did not immediate refresh to tabloid size told me that although I did select the BigPage application in the drop-down, it wasn't being applied.
    Public IDs:
The public ID in my test reference XML file is:  <!DOCTYPE reference PUBLIC "-//OASIS//DTD DITA Reference//EN" "reference.dtd" [
The four public IDs in the DITA1.1-BigPage-Reference-FM entry in structapps.fm (in the Entity Locations section) are:
    -//OASIS//DTD DITA Reference//EN
    -//IBM//DTD DITA Reference//EN
    -//OASIS//DTD DITA Composite//EN
    -//IBM//DTD DITA Composite//EN
Do you see anything wrong with the above? .
    Directory Structure:
Maybe I cloned the application incorrectly?  Here's what I did:
    1. In C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker10\Structure\xml, I copied the folder called DITA and pasted it into the same directory. I renamed this folder DITA-BigPage
    2. Inside DITA-BigPage, I opened the app folder. Inside each subfolder in app, DITA-Reference-FM, for example, I opened the edd file in Framemaker. In this case, the edd file name was reference.edd.fm.
    3. I edited the top line of reference.edd.fm.  It originally said:
    Structured Application: DITA1.1-Reference-FM.
    I changed it to say:
    Structured Application: DITA1.1-BigPage-Reference-FM
    4. I saved the EDD file. Then I opened the template file in the same folder. It was called: reference.template.fm.
    5. In reference.template.fm, I first changed my page size: Format Menu > Page Layout > Page Size > Tabloid > Set.
    6. Then I imported the element definitions from the corresponding EDD file:  File > Import > Element Definitions > reference.edd.fm > Click Import > Click OK to dismiss verification message.
    7. I repeated the above process for all topic-type folders. For the maps types, I did not change the page size, as these will never display as topics in my online  help. I did nothing to the dtd folder.
    8. Once all this was done, I opened structapps.fm.  I did the following to all Dita1.1 elements in the structure tree.
Selected the Dita 1.1 XMLApplication element, for instance, the one named Dita1.1-Reference-FM, copied it, and pasted it underneath the original element.
The original first few lines in the clone looked like this:
    Application Name: DITA1.1-Reference-FM
          Template:              $STRUCTDIR\xml\DITA\app\DITA-Reference-FM\reference.template.fm
          DTD:                       $STRUCTDIR\xml\DITA\app\dtd\reference.dtd
          Read/write Rules:  $STRUCTDIR\xml\DITA\app\DITA-Reference-FM\reference.rules.fm
          DOCTYPE:              reference
I changed these lines to look like this, using your suggestion to create a variable for the first part of the URLs to enable speed and accuracy:
           Application Name:      DITA1.1-BigPage-Reference-FM
                   Template:                    $STRUCTDIR\xml\DITA-BigPage\app\DITA-Reference-FM\reference.template.fm
                   DTD:                            $STRUCTDIR\xml\DITA-BigPage\app\dtd\reference.dtd
                   Read/write Rules:        $STRUCTDIR\xml\DITA-BigPage\app\DITA-Reference-FM\reference.rules.fm
                   DOCTYPE:                    reference
I also changed the "Filename" URLs in the "Entity Locations" section of this XMLApplication clone from  $STRUCTDIR\xml\DITA\app\  to $STRUCTDIR\xml\DITA-BigPage\app\.  Applying the "BigPage" variable I'd created for this purpose made this go quickly.
Finally, after this didn't work the first few times I tried it, I got suspicious that the structapps.fm file in my AppData folder (in my case, it was in the Roaming subfolder under the usual Adobe directories) was overriding the modified structapps.fm file in the Framemaker program directory so I replaced the one in AppData (it had all the original settings) with my modified version.  This had no effect, unfortunately.
That was my process. After doing the above, the Dita1.1-BigPage applications all listed in the Set Structured App drop-down. They just didn't work, when applied to my XML documents. Nor did the application "remember" what structured application I had set when I opened a new xml document  or closed/reopened the current document or closed/reopened the application.  Did I place the directories correctly for Framemaker 10?  This is the way I did it for FrameMaker 9 and it worked successfully.
As much as I'd love to solve this mystery, I've thought of a workaround I can fall back on  that doesn't involve using a cloned application.  I will change the page size of a few of the original Dita1.1 sturctured application templates to tabloid size, but leave the Topic structured application at letter size. I'll then apply the Topic structured application to my PDFs and use the others for my help topics.  I'll set this up now. If this doesn't work, then I'll know there's a much bigger problem at the base of this, perhaps even something to do with changing page sizes in templates.

}     If I change the GUI constructor to empty and extend JFrame instead of JDialog and change the call to super the ActionListener stops working. I've never known this problem before (i.e. I always use e.getSource()). I've even cast the object to a JButton to ensure that the right button is pressed and it is all ok.
Is there something fundamentally wrong when I make those simple changes to JFrame?
    Regards,
    Chris

I think rather the approach is your action handling in terms of the buttons. The giant actionPerformed method is difficult to read and maintain.
I would recommend the following things:
    1. Split your ActionListener into multiple smaller listeners. There's not really even a reason for the GUI class to be an action listener. Instead of having GUI implement ActionListener and trying to keep all of the functionality in one place, use anonymous classes:
    button3.addActionListener(new ActionListener()
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
            name = field3.getText();
            Message deleteMessage = new Message(DELETE_FILE);
            deleteMessage.setFileName(name);
            sendMessageToServer(deleteMessage);
            field3.setText(defaultText);
    button4.addActionListener(new ActionListener()
        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
            name = field4.getText();
            Message createMessage = new Message(CREATE_FILE);
            createMessage.setFileName(name);
            sendMessageToServer(createMessage);
            field4.setText(defaultText);
    2. Only use the == operator on primitives. There are very few cases in which you can properly use the == operator on objects and, in every one of those cases I have experienced, the equals(Object) method produces the same result.
    3. Name your variables more descriptively. There is really very little reason for your buttons to be named button1, button2, and so on. Give them names that mean something. For example, button1 should be named something like uploadFileButton or buttonUpload. That will give us significant information about what it is expected to do, whereas button1 does not. You may be able to remember what button1 does, but you wrote the code. I keep having to refer back to the instantiation of the button to get a hint as to what it does and, in a few months' time, so will you. :) The same goes for your labels and fields, as well.
I'm not sure why you aren't getting the behavior you want. However, have you checked to determine that the event source of the button click is actually the button when the whole thing is inside of a JFrame? I would expect it to be, but you never know. This is why I recommend using different ActionListeners for each button. That way, you can be sure of what caused the event.
Just my 2c. Good luck to you. :)

  • Does HP Color Laserjet 2840 work with Lion?

I am considering upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion.  Will my HP Color Laserjet 2840 work after the upgrade?

I don't know if you have sorted this but I posted this elsewhere on the Forum. I have my HP 2840 working fine in Lion. Occasionally the Director software fires up and can't find the printer so I just turn the printer off then on and everything works OK.
I got a reply from HP who said that they don't make the printer any more and so don't support it. It will only fax and print.
    Here is my post:
Has anybody had the frustrating time that I have trying to get their precious HP LaserJet all-in-one scanner/fax/printer working under Lion?
I have spent ages looking over the net and on HP's own site and worked out that formally Apple and HP only support printing on these machines now. The so-called in-built functionality of Lion using Image Capture or Preview etc simply won't work with the HP2840: the HP2840 does not appear as a scanner.
Anyhow, I also found that the HP site does not sem to have the old drivers any more but fortunately I had them backed up in Time Machine so I found the old driver (LJMFP28x0OSX10.5Update-v8.2.dmg).
I tried just running install but it falls over quickly as the 'Start here" link is broken. So I dug around the package and found an install app calle Aio. I ran this and after what seemed ages of countless loops and after the installation program closed down every other app running (I've never seen apps closed so quickly but this may be a Lion thing) the Mac re-booted.
And hey presto! My scanner appears to be working. When it has finished I get the "HP Scan quit unexpectedly" window come up. But otherwise everything seems OK. I then ran the Mac software update and it (re-) installed the HP driver updates and the HP Director program still works and scanning is still available.
If anyone else needs the .dmg file let me know and I will uplaod it somewhere. I assume you can post here and I will be notified.
If someone knows more about this problem or can even get HP to do something better about the (lack of) support I'd be delighted to know.
    Good luck!

  • Lync Server 2010 conference not working with Windows 8.1 and IE 10

    Hello,
The problem is that whenever a Windows 8.1 user tries to join a Lync server 2010 conference using Internet Explorer 10 (or 11, tried that too) the user can't join the conference. If the conference is created by a Lync server 2013 user joining works fine.
When using Lync 2010 client we get the following error in the client: "error id 87 source id 7".
When using Lync 2013 client we end up with a blank conversation window.
There are no traces in server log, client log or event log.
Below is a set of use cases that may help you to understand what is the problem scenario. Each of these works or does not work with both Lync 2010 and Lync 2013 client.
    - Lync server 2010 conference, windows 7, Chrome, Firefox, IE 10 or 11 --> Works.
    - Lync server 2010 conference, windows 8.1, IE 10 or 11 --> Does not work.
    - Lync server 2010 conference, windows 8.1, Chrome or Firefox --> Works.
    - Lync server 2013 conference, windows 8.1, Chrome, Firefox, IE 10 or 11 --> Works.
It does not help to add the meet address to IE compatibility list (Compatibility View Settings).
If i press F12 in IE and change the document mode of the meet page to IE 9 version then i can join meetings with Windows 8.1 and IE 10. Unfortunately i cannot make that as a default setting for the meet website.
Any ideas on how to get Lync server 2010 meetings working with Windows 8.1 and IE 10 or 11?
IE is the company default browser. Windows 8.1 is not a default operating system but we have increasing number of Windows 8.1 computers in our environment (mainly directors).

According to your description, it is hard to tell whether the issue is related with IE or Lync Server 2010 or both.
Compare the log when Lync client on Window 8.1 with IE 10 or IE 11 join Lync server 2010 conferencing and Lync Server 2013 conferencing.

  • I can not get website to work with ShockWave

I don't know where to post this, but I need some help with it.
Back in 1997 I was using Director, which I no longer have. At that time I created a website that contained some interactive pages where I had used Director to create content the required using Shockwave.
I now have a MBP running system 10.6.2. I tried to open the pages in Safari and I get a dialog box telling me:
"Some content on the page can’t be shown because its MIME type is unspecified."
I downloaded Shockwave and Flash from Adobe, I restated my computer and still get the same message. I am not sure if ShockWave works with 10.6.2 or not.
I am wanting to get the content of the pages so that I can use them on something else. If I could open the interactive pages I might be able to copy and past them off the webpages. Or if I could open the files with some other program then I could recover the content. Recovering the content is my goal, not running the interactive files online.
    Anyone have a suggestion?

    HI,
It's possible (more like probable) the software you used to create the site isn't compatible with the latest version of Flash. I'm pretty sure why you are getting this... "Some content on the page can’t be shown because its MIME type is unspecified."
Go to the Adobe Director support area here...
    http://www.adobe.com/products/director/
You can ask their customer service for suggestions so you can extract the data from your site.

  • PSE 9 only works with old AIR version on Win 7 x64. Adobe please help.

I'm hoping that Adobe can jump in and help here as there are some real versioning issues with the components that PSE 9 uses.  I've made a number of posts in the Adobe AIR forum (while I was figuring this out) and have exchanged with Adobe resources regarding my problems with Adobe AIR on Win 7 x64. They are still looking into it.
    PSE 9.0 comes with
         Adobe AIR 1.5.3.9130,
Adobe Community Help 3.2.1.650 (an AIR app), and
Adobe Photoshop.com Inspiration Browser 3.07 (an AIR app)
That  Adobe AIR 1.5.3.9130 is an old version of AIR.  Since then there have been production releases 2.0.2, 2.0.3, and the latest 2.0.4.  If you upgrade to ANY of those Adobe AIR 2.x versions on your Win 7 x64 system, ALL your Adobe AIR apps will stop working.
Adobe Community Help 3.2.1.650 is an out-of-date version and it continually nags you to update to the newer version.  If you do that, the install will first upgrade Adobe AIR to 2.0.4 and then upgrade Help.  Help will no longer work and all Adobe AIR apps will not work.
I have installed and uninstalled PSE 9 about 25 times, I have installed and ununinstalled different versions of AIR over 50 times, etc. etc. to come to these conclusions.  I have tested Adobe AIR 2.0.2, 2.0.3 and 2.0.4 and NONE of them work on Win 7 x64.
I'd really like someone from the Adobe PSE team to look into this.  I don't have time to spend hours on the phone with support.  I have described the problem and can offer more details as necessary.
    Thanks . . . . Brian

    Ankush,
Thank for your two responses.  I have also received some more emails from Chris Campbell around AIR in particular so I'll try to work with him first.
Thanks you for confirming that you do not see any errors after installing the updates.  Also that Adobe Help and Inspiration Browser both work after updating AIR to 2.0.4.
I will answer your questions for now though:
    1. You asked:
    Have you tried this:
Uninstall PSE 9, PRE 9 and any other CS5 Adobe application.
    Uninstall Adobe AIR.
Install PSE 9 and run the updates of Adobe AIR and now use the applications?
If it still gives error, uninstall Adobe AIR and then install the 2.0.4 version directly which is available on Adobe.com.
    What happends now?
Yes, I have done all of these combinations a few times without success.
    2. The directories for Adobe Help and PIB look fine.  They are
        C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Help
        C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\PhotoshopdotcomInspirationBrowser
As I said, Chris Campbell has asked me for info and to run some tests.  I'll let you know how it works out.
    Thanks . . . . Brian
