Working with MP4 clips in CS5

Hello to everyone
I am editing clips , video mp4 files, in CS5. I am customizing the sequence settings because each of these clips have diffrent sizes. I want to export in mp4 as well and try to keep the closer possible quality to the original file
a) When I am exporting I set the file to be exported in the same size than the original, and this is a 16:9 format, but the exported file comes out in 4:3 , why is this? the export setting is clearly in 16:9 dimensions, like the original video and the sequence setting is
b) to export to mp4 like the original, I am choosing the h.264 code settings, is this the way to go to keep the closest possible quality to the original?
Thanks a lot for your help and best regards

a) In the first particular video, the one I am trying now. The export setting is
output:  pal 440x352 25fps, AAC, 192, 48kb     and the origin sequence is  440x352 , 25, , is a 16:9 size but I am getting the video in 4:3
b) I am working with Mac, the original video is Mp4, so should I export to Avi or quicktime then?
Thanks a lor for your help

  • PE4 crashes when working with MP4 videos

Hello everyone - just got a new Samsung HMX20 camera - shoots in full HD and creates clips in MP4 format.  I did a few tests on the cam before shooting about 111 clips today, totaling approximately 30 minutes of video.
The test worked great, looked CLEAR and fabulous.
I started PE4 and captured all the clips just fine.
However, when I try to import more than about 10 clips into a new project in PE4, it crashes (no warning or message) and goes to a blue screen, then my computer restarts.
System Specs: 1 month old HP Pavilion DV7, AMD Turion Dual-Core 2.10 GHz, 4.0 GB, 64 bit system, 184 GB free of 284.
I have a backup drive I could use if needed, but not sure if it would help - I figured it would be better to have everything on the C drive...  Although perhaps that is naive of me.
Any thoughts?  This is for a client project, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!  If you have any questions to help your understanding of the issue, feel free to ask.
I have used PE4 successfully with my older Panasonic cam (not HD), and this issue has never presented until now, when trying to work with numerous clips.
I will also post this over at movipix.
    Thanks!!

    Hi Catherine-
The link to download Super C is here:
    http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html
Go to the very bottom of the page, then click on:   Download SUPER © setup file from our 4th dedicated server
It's kind of a strange site, but I have used the program with no issues.
Then, the convert your files, you simply choose your settings...
(I'm doing HD, so I chose: Output container MPG, Codec: MPEG-II, FFMPEG encoder, no change for video scale size, no selection for aspect, 30 frames per second, bitrate 2208, TOP QUALITY checkbox checked.  I don't use the audio, as my videos will have music and a voiceover, so I checked Disable Audio.)
Then you drop you MP4 files into the window at the bottom and hit Encode (active files).
It then begins to encode them into the same folder as the originals, but with an MPEG file format!
I set mine to do this for 111 clips, and as there is no automatic "shutdown when complete" option, I guesstimated the time it would take and set my computer to shut down in 3 hours.  Worked like a charm and I was able to get some sleep!
I am then able to easily pull these clips into PE4 and work with them.
    Hope this helps!

  • Premerie Pro CC - have sound on timeline, yet when I export file i am missing sound in one tiny clip. Can I be related to working with Merged clips?

    Hello Premerie Pro CC community,
I need help, I am working with merged clips (the video footage shoot with a DSLR and different audio recorders). I have a timeline in premerie with sound all finished. Everything was fine until I when and fine tuned some of the audio, just added key frames to correct and now when I export my sequence I am missing sound in one little clip of the entire mov.
Does it have to do with sound and editing with a merged clip?
I have tried to export in several different settings and still the same result, and when I look at my timeline the sound is all there.
I have until the end of Monday to figure what I have done incorrect
    thanks

In case it is a phase problem, try adding fill left effect to the faulty clip.

I purchased Photoshop CS5 for my windows vista operating system. I purchased a canon 7 D some yrs ago no problem. I purchased canon 7D mk 11 in December 2014. The supplied software will not work with vista. Photoshop CS5 will not accept canon7D mk11. Can someone please tell me how i process canon 7D mk11 photos ?????. (is it possible to bypass camera raw and open the photo straight into CS5 without using camera raw first. if so how do i do that. if not how do i process pictures).
    Thank you.
    Brian in the UK.

Photoshop by itself cannot process raw image data. That is why the Camera Raw plug-in was developed. You could try the DNG converter and convert your images to the DNG format and then the Camera Raw that you have would be able to open them. I can't recommend Lightroom because you are using Vista, and Lightroom 5 cannot be used with that operating system. It may be time for you to get a new computer and upgrade your software.

  • How do I make Photoshop CS6 keyframe panning work with many clips?

    Hello Photoshop experts:
I am having big troubles with applying keyframe controlled panning in Photoshop CS6.  After reading chapter 10 of Photoshop CS6 CIAB, I added a simple cloud animation to my video.  The original video/audio track is in Video Group 1.  I pasted a simple JPEG graphic of a white cloud in to Video Group 2, without anything else in that group.    Following the CIAB directions, I was easily able to make the cloud pan across the top of my video.  Ah, this is easy I thought!
Then, I added a second cloud, this time it was black.  I added this to Video Group 2, right after the white cloud.  Here is where the troubles began.....  I would highlight the image frame of the black cloud, move the playback head/cursor to the right end of the black cloud clip, then click on the "Position" clock to install a yellow diamond keyframe marker.  At that instant, the selected clip of the black cloud would de-select, and the white cloud clip would select instead.  As soon as the white clould was selected, then I couldn't click and drag the black cloud, as that frame was no longer selected.  So, I would click the mouse back on the black cloud frame, and try and set the second key frame marker at the beginning of the black cloud frame for where I wanted the black cloud to sit at the start of the pan............  But then no motion would take place as I advanced the cursor across the frame.
So, I started a Video Group 3, and moved the black cloud into that.  Then, without problems, I was able to use the key frame markers to control the panning of the black cloud across the frame,,,,,,,,,,,  ah, this is easy!  But then, I put in a red  cloud onto Video Group 3, and guess what?  It would not work, the same as before, it only wanted to jump to the black cloud clip as soon as I had set the first key frame marker on the pink cloud.
Note, underneath the first still image clip that I successfully automated the zoom function, there appears a violet shaded area under that clip, going from the starting key frame marker to the ending key frame marker.  It seems as though this should be telling me something, as only the working automated panning sections have the light violet highlighting.  But I can't move or eliminate that highlighting, or get it to associate with the clip I am trying to work with, after the first instance.
I have about 75 little clips I need to pan and zoom in on, and I am NOT going to make an individual Video Group for each clip!  Something is wrong.  I have spent about 5 hours banging my head on this today, and about 2 last night......
    A) Maybe this is too confusing, but if someone can say what is wrong, I would appreciate any help.
    B) Can you recommend an appropriate video (YouTube or other free source) that would shine light on this?  The only videos show just one simple segment getting automated panning applied,,,,,,,,,,,  my problem does not exist in that simple case.
    Thanks, Chuck

Classical case of context handler overflow. Delete your file associations in Explorer, thne reinstate them using the Open With... method. also make virus scanners, compression tools and others that may add additional associations and context handlers behave by disabling their all too helpful Explorer integration options where appropriate...

  • Working with .MOD clips

Before I go on I can see I'm asked if I want to use or delete the recovered version (of this content?) I'll do nothing if i can until I know what it means!   Now about .MOD - Since I could not see much listing about the topic I'd like to share my successful finding about it.  I have had my share of trouble with my HD clip and thank the forum for all the help I received to get me through and so I hope this will help others who have trouble with .mod files.  Yes after my trouble with HD I thought I'd be cruising with my friend footage in SD. You'd thought Adobe would have handled something like this the easy way - no "format not supported"! This is when I googled and eventually found the right answer. The trick is to "convert" these .mod clips into (I think mpeg2), That is to change the extension to .M2V (as you can see it's not a real conversion)  - This may seems simple for many as for me all I could see in the directory was name without extensions! Ah, you may say, you need to un-hide them. But what about the .MOI? I can see them and I don't think it is because I'm French (moi je suis vraiement Francais! ). Further more if you right click on one of these clip's name and choose "Rename" You still won't see the extension and if you add one, although you can't see it it's actually added to the invisible extension so you'll end up with xxxxx.mod.m2v although you'll see only xxxx.m2v! Luckily, I came across Turkov's Blog:(http://eturkov.blogspot.com/2008/05/working-with-mod-files-in-adobe.html) "Working with .mod files in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3" - (I use CS4)  Now I've given the site I won't explain in details how it's done. as you can check it for yourself. It is very well laid down with clear screen shots. but you must follow all the steps thoroughly. Back to the ext. name change - it is done through "cmd" command and needs a little juggling for those like me who used it once in a decade, but again it's clearly indicated.   The other and first thing a should have mentioned is to enable pp to accept .m2v you need to download a .dll file and put it to the adobe root directory. Again I was not too sure how to do it but went into the Adobe collection then Premiere CS? and there saw all those .dll so added to it (I can feel all the sneering, still I'm proud of myself!). as for the renaming I had little trial and error about entering the renaming command as it was not quite clear whether or not there were spaces in it. I found that:>space ren space *.mod space m2 v (> ren *mod *movEnter) was right for me! I also read somewhere that the renaming can be done through Adobe Bridge, but I have not used since CS2!  The cmd approach will rename easilly a whole folder.  Happy as Larry I imported the folder into PP and all was so good, I played a few clips with no problem.  Half way through my clips suddenly all went very wrong. Screen ghosted, PP not responding any more, non adobe stuff appearing in my source monitor - total stuff up.  Back to the instructions... Last step about conforming the clips, so eager I missed it! One needs to select all the new imported clips and open the "interpret the footage" I'm using PAL and used the only "wide screen" option available that is a little different than NTSC example But it must have been right! I also noticed that the "interpret footage" field was ghosted under "file" but worked when I right clicking within the project window.  There you are, 'hope it helps....After re editing this I hope I have not been to enthusiastic as I seem to have a lot of difficulty rendering my clips on the time line getting a lot of program freeze.

Thank Guys for all this, I have no idea of what is SDCopy may be will need to have a look at it. I'm using Chrome so will hit 3 returns to create a space!
I also mentioned earlier that I could not find any listing here for this topic but since found "What is the best way to handle .mod files in Premiere CS4", with much contribution and interesting material. One needs to widen question format to get result!   I just tackled the next folder of such clips with bizarre  behaviour. I first went through the cmd rename routine then imported in PP cs4 with unpleasant result as the system was quite instable. The size of this folder was 1.79 gb (it also contained .xmp file, not imported but puzzling, as I don't know where they come from since I sorted the original folder, not containing such files, and imported only .mod in the new folder within to rename!) I then deleted the lot and decided to import one clip at the time, then interpret the footage and put it on the time line, reduce the size to fit safe area and hit Enter to render. So far it went well so I increased the number of clips import gradually and up to 500 meg. still no problem. However my last import, about 300meg. freezed about on the first quarter. I looked at the content and found one file about 100mg that seemed to be at the problem spot. I removed it and tried to render the remaining, had no more problem! That clip was actually one where my friend forgot to switch the camera off (lucky for him he was wearing good looking shoes!) And lucky for me since I did not need it.
Some of the reading I have done seems to imply that renaming is not the best way to go about and it looks like I should remove the manufacture mpeg 2 "envelope" through a proper file conversion. What I have got now is 2 .AVI  file that don't look too bad and need to edit as the only edit i have done is bring the clips to the safe screen size in the program monitor. (it's a good fit in the source monitor but far to large in the program monitor!?). I can't really tell if I have lost a lot of quality.  I still wonder why 90% of these clips are ok but some give me such trouble.

  • Subtitles: DVDSP 3.x hangs up by working with 25 clips

    Hi,
I´ve got a Problem with DVDSP creating subtitles.
A Project with 25 short interviews, one longer Clip and a few menus. I imported the subtitles (.stl-format). No problem. But when working with these titles in the timeline (moving, trimming) the program often hangs up. Sometimes I can do some two or three actions - then the program hangs.
Moreover, now that I got all the titles doen, I tried to burn a disc. The subtiltes appeared - but the size was wrong. I worked with 26-point dot height, but the titles seem to have 30 or 32 now - the titles now have different spacing.
Any Idea? By the way - it´s DVDSP 3.x

  • Working with 60fps clips in 24fps Linked Comp

I am trying to use the time warp effect in Ae to alter the speed of the clip at different points in the clip.  So going from normal 100% down to 40% then back up to 100%, with a nice smooth gradation/ramping between speeds.
This is easy enough to achieve, I know how to do this, but the problem I am experiencing is bringing the clip from a 24fps timeline in Pr into a linked comp in Ae.  The clip is 60fps, and is not conformed in Pr to 24fps.  But when I bring it into the 24fps Ae comp it is slowing the clip down, conforming it to the comps setting, i guess.  I just want it to play back in real time in Ae so that I can edit the time warp myself.
It is especially a problem because now the comp length is way shorter than the clip, which makes working with it an absolute nightmare.

It is very easy to get confused with frame rates. First, the only way to show all of your frames is to have the comp and the footage at the same frame rate. The speed of the playback as it relates to the clock on the wall depends on the frame rate used to record the original footage. If you want to slow down 60fps footage so that is plays at half speed then put your 60fps footage in a 30 fps comp and interpret the footage as 30 fps. Now the every frame of the footage will play back but it will take 20 seconds for the clock in the shot to show 10 seconds.
Most folks have a hard time figuring out how to look at time changes in footage and they make incorrect assumptions. If you want to play your footage at normal speed then slow down the footage, then return to normal speed and your original footage is 60 fps and the final video will be 24 fps then you have to Interpret the footage at it's original frame rate, bring it into After Effects, then enable time remapping. Time remapping will set a keyframe at the start and at the end of the clip. The clip will play back in real time but frames will either be blended or dropped. There is no way around this.
You go to the point in the time line where you want to start slowing down the clip and you set a keyframe, then you go to the part of the clip where you want the footage to play slowly and set another, then you go to the part of the clip where you want to start returning to real time and set another, then you go to the part of the clip where you want to return to real time.
Now comes the fun part. You select all of the keyframes except the first two and drag them to the right. so that keyframe number 3, the point where you want the footage to be at it's constant slow motion part is where you want to have this happen according to the clock on the wall. IOW if you want the first 2 seconds to play in real time then the second keyframe is at 2 seconds, then at 3 seconds you want to clip to start playing back at 1/4 speed you would select all of the keyframes except the first two and drag the third keyframe to the 3 second mark.
Now you select all of the keyframes but the first three and drag them to the right. You need to move the 4th keyframe far enough to the right so that the footage will be playing at 1/4 speed. If you want the original footage from two and a half seconds to 10 and a half seconds to play at 1/4 speed then that's 40 seconds according to the clock on the wall so you would slide all of the keyframes except the first 4 to the right until the 4th keyframe came to the 40 second mark.
You repeat the process for all of the keyframes except the first 4 and move them to the right until you get to the point where you want the clip to return to normal time. Then you go into the graph editor and adjust the curves of the value graph until you get the timing you want with a constant angle between the first two keyframes, a curve between the second and third, a straight line that has 1/4 the slope of the first section between 3 and 4, then a curve between 4 and 5 and the same slope between 5 and 6 that you have between 1 and 2.
I think I already went through this for you in another thread. Maybe it was for someone else.
If you use Twixtor to do this the theory is exactly the same. It just takes a while to get used to thinking in time.

  • Advice for working with large clip files

A few years ago I made a movie using iMovie2. At the time I was working with clips recoded on one minidv disc. I am now ready to begin a project (just bought iLife06) that is much larger. I have roughly ten 60 min minidv discs. I am getting nervous about the amount of memory needed to import and work with this many clips.
Is it possible to import the clips to my external fire wire HD? Can I still work in iMovie while the project lives on the ext firewire drive? Can anyone tell me roughly how much memory is needed for larger projects like this? (I expect the final project will be 30-40 minutes).
Since the footage all comes from our European concert tour, it easily divides into 3 separate sections - would it be easier to create 3 different iMovie projects? Is it possible to combine them in the end to create one film?
Thank you so much for your help with this.
    Sincerely,
    Bob Linscott

Is it possible to import the clips to my external
fire wire HD? Can I still work in iMovie while the
project lives on the ext firewire drive?
Should be fine. I've been editing 4 hours worth of footage down to about 50 minutes, on a project stored on a FireWire 800 drive. FireWire 400 (if that's what you're using) is half the speed, but should still be fine, I think.
So, create a new project, save it to your external drive, and then import your footage into the project.
    Can anyone
tell me roughly how much memory is needed for larger
projects like this? (I expect the final project will
    be 30-40 minutes).
If you mean hard drive space for the project, I think you're talking about 11 GB per hour: so, in short, a lot. I think you could import your footage, edit a bit, and empty your trash to free up space, but iMovie does seem to keep your originals fairly relentlessly, so I'm not entirely sure.
Watch out for extracting audio from clips too: I've been doing this in order to do cross-fades, but it increases the size of your movie. I ended up buying a second, bus-powered 80 GB external hard drive just to hold the iMovie project
Since the footage all comes from our European concert
tour, it easily divides into 3 separate sections -
would it be easier to create 3 different iMovie
projects? Is it possible to combine them in the end
    to create one film?
This could well be a good idea. Once your projects gets over a certain length, you may experience the "herky jerky" pkayback issue (search for "herky jerky" on these forums), making editing difficult. So three separate projects might be easier.
To combine them all at the end, you'll want to export the 2nd and 3rd projects as full quality DV (Share > QuickTime > Compress Movie For: Full Quality), then import them (File > Import) into your first project, and add them to the timeline.

  • Working with mvc model and cs5

    Hi all,
Does anyone have some usefull suggestions on how Dreamweaver cs5 could benefit me in the development proces with a mvc website structure.
Right now everything get's passed by the frontcontroller wich is initiated on the main index page.
At least on the real server.
I try to get the same page with a testserver, I installed xampp, but I don't get the same page result as I would get from the internetserver.
Some off the css is messed up, etc.
Any pointers on how to work with mvc would be helpfull.
For example: To what extend is live view with xampp a helpfull tool to preview the pages that I want to make.
Or should I preview the pages out off the context off mvc?
    thanks, Richard

Some more information regarding my problem:
It seems that the loadXML and saveXML does not like the data binding.
When I don't use a data connection (and no binding), navigation works perfect and the data on the different pages is stored.
When I use a data connection, the navigation still works, but the data is not stored anymore.
When I use a data connection and a data binding, navigation does not work and also the data is not stored.
By the way: I am using Lifecycle Designer 7.

  • What is the best record format to work with in Adobe Premiere CS5?

I typically have been working with videos in MPEG2 but have recently stumbled upon a major problem. I am able to play the MPEG2 footage no problem with VLC, however as soon as I import the file into Premiere the audio plays out of sync with the video. The out of sync audio is not consitantly off by a certain number of frames but instead seems to vary in how well it matches up with the video so I'm not able to manually correct it by cutting and moving the audio around. I have tried re-importing the video file and rendering the timeline but nothing seems to solve it.
We do a lot of broadcasting of events and have to give the footage to clients and so we need to know what format we should be recording in so that we don't have this problem occur again. We are recording via Aver Media from a Tricaster XD850 so we have the options of recording in: MPEG2, AVI, WMA, WMV and H.264. The feed that's being run into the Tricaster is from Sony NX5U camera's recording in 720p30.
Thanks for your help on this, we'd really like to get this problem sorted out.

For SD, I'd probably go with DV AVI.
For HD, I'd go with a UT AVI.

Ya it does have to be supported by the software there should be an update so people that have purchased their programs can use it on touch screen instead of being forced into a monthly fee just to be able to work on the go. I refuse to pay a monthly fee for one of the five programs I already purchased just to use on a touch screen that is insane Its like paying for a program every year.
Well, considering bang for the buck, CS6 is about $700 USD to buy outright, which is fine but users have to be aware that Adobe's only going to put out critical updates for that version for the time being. No new features, etc. Even its Camera Raw doesn't have any of the new features inherent in Photoshop CC's Camera Raw.
Contrast this with paying about $120 USD/year (about $10 USD/month if one chooses to go that route) for Photoshop CC, Lightroom and any and all updates and new features to those programs via the Creative Cloud Photography Plan. By the time you've paid the equivalent that you would just for CS6, you'd have updates and new features that are leaps and bounds ahead of CS6. (CC itself has gone though several major updates that contain new features.) IMHO, there's no contest.

  • Red Giant Denoiser II not working with certain clips

    HI all,
I have a 25 minute wedding video that I have been unsuccessfully trying to export and sign off on nfor the last week and the problem seems to lie with Denoiser II.  There were some clips that were corrupted by me using Denoiser on them so I had to take the effect off.  However I am also having a problem in that the denoiser effects seems to 'flicker' during clips - ie it works for a second, then stops so noise appears, then works again for a second, then stops etc etc.  The footage was shot on a dslr, 24fps.  I shot a short film with the same clips and used denoiser a few weeks previously with no problems.  The only thing that differs is the amount of other effects I am using with the footage - Colorista II, Mojo and Magic Bullet Looks.  Could the problem be that I have too many effects running?
I can't view my footage in Premiere as my computer can't play it due to the effects I have on it so can't comment on whether the problem is happening in playback and export, or just when i export
I have tried exporting in h.264, mpeg etc. I have also tried exporting through Encoder rather than Premiere, again with no difference and am getting so frustrated.
Im on Premiere Pro cc and Windows 8
Any advice would be much appreciated
    Thanks!
