Would you allow a user to install Oracle?

I have a user who has a "Course Technology Kit for Oracle 9i Software" that she would like installed on her PC (she's taking a class in this).
This kit is supposed to be for training, but it appears to me to be a full-blown version (although "Personal Edition") of Oracle that is configured to be used with the exercises she's being given. What do you think?
We currently run Oracle 8.1.7.4. Will this installation cause some conflict with Oracle that is already installed on her pc.

Is there currently a full-blown Oracle database on her machine? Or is it just the Oracle client that is installed?
Assuming that she installs the software into a new Oracle Home, there shouldn't be a conflict (assuming the existing install is reasonably recent). If she is going to end up with multiple Oracle databases running, though, that may tax system resouces like RAM. You may also want to create a TNS_ADMIN environment variable to reuse the tnsnames.ora file between multiple Oracle Homes.
If I had the option, I would consider having a DBA do the actual install. Just a little more bulletproof that way.

  • Allow standard user to install updates in Vista problem

    Hi,
How come UAC is still asking for Administrator credentials even if the option "Allow all users to install updates on this computer" is set when a standard user tries to install the updates?
    Cheers.

After setup the option, you might have to restart your PC.

Mozilla, like many other software companies, thoroughly test their software before releasing it to the public and I'm sure that no problem you are having is intentional.
I do not work for Mozilla but I do have experience of releasing software for public usage.
Firefox has no way of knowing what other software is already on your computer and with millions of combinations it isn't always possible to test for every scenario.
You can go back to the old version of Firefox but that won't always solve your problem.
The web site below tells you how:

I recently loaded OSX mavericks on my Imac. I now find I cannot open any Adobe products from CS5. The error message reads " to open Adobe illustrator CS5.app, you need to install a JAva SE 6 runtime. Would you like to check and install one? I try to install but get the error" download error". As far as i know I'm using Adobe Java 7. None of my CS5 suite works anymore............and i really dont want to upgrade to a monthly cloud service fee as i hate this policy with a passion.

This goes for Dreamweaver CC on Mavericks!!!!! THANK YOU!
I couldn't launch Dreamweaver CC. An error told me to install "java se 6 runtime". But when I clicked  OK I got another error telling me there is a network problem! I found this forum post on CS6 products, so I tried the download link, installed java 6 and presto, it worked! Thanks!

  • Allow local user to install software but deny logon

So my requirement is that regular users are not allowed to install software on a computer, but if they want to install they could if an admin would come and enter admin username and pw on popup after they try to install something. Also 2nd requirement is
that admin user is not allowed to logon locally. So i figured i'll create local admin and deny him logon locally but then when try to install software it tells me that i don't have required logon right to do this action. Is there a way i could achieve this?
    Thank you!

You first requirement can be satisfied by configuring UAC.
you second requirement can be set in security options. I would NOT recommend denyiong logon to the group administrators. instead you should create a custom (AD) group to contain your administrators. make it member of the local administrator group(s) (posibly
using 'restricted groups' GPO) and deny log on as you like through user right assignment (also possible by GPO)

  • JFileChooser, how can you allow the user to select MORE than 1 file?

    Hello everyone.
I want to allow the user to select multiple files from a directory, not just 1, but not just the whole directory.
Currently I see these 2 options from looking at the sun's JFileChooser demo:
    //Create a file chooser
            fc = new JFileChooser();
//Uncomment one of the following lines to try a different
//file selection mode.  The first allows just directories
//to be selected (and, at least in the Java look and feel,
//shown).  The second allows both files and directories
//to be selected.  If you leave these lines commented out,
//then the default mode (FILES_ONLY) will be used.
            //fc.setFileSelectionMode(JFileChooser.DIRECTORIES_ONLY);
fc.setFileSelectionMode(JFileChooser.FILES_AND_DIRECTORIES);but both don't allow the selection of more than 1 file.
When I say, select more than 1 file I mean the user can hold in SHIFT or CTRL and select files.
Any ideas how to do this?
    Thanks!

  • What would you recommend me to do in Oracle Form Builder as a beginnner?

I am a beginner in Oracle Form Builder and can anyone recommend a list of tasks/assignments I could try as I barely any projects at work currently ?
I have been able to query items in a database(table) by creating a control/dummy block. What list of tasks would you suggest me to do next ? Any complex type of forms I could try ?
    Thanks.

If you have created a dummy/control block, I would recommend that you create a new block based on a database table. Use the block wizard.
Then a further block based on a table that is a "child" or "detail" table for the one you just created. use the block wizard.
Then create a list of values (using the LOV Wizard) to populate one or more of the fields in your block - preferably using a SQL statement to get the contents of the LOV.
You could then try creating a calculated item to add up values in one of your blocks.
Then try creating a "when validate item" trigger on one of your items to try to enforce some validation rules. Display any error messages using an Alerti (don't bother with the "message" function in Forms - it's rubbish).
That should be enough to be going on with.
    Good luck.

  • Allowing other users to install software

I've just made the leap of faith to Mac. A very nice OS and I'm very impressed. I've used and loved Linux for years and curse the Evil Empire everyday because my work laptop is IBM. (provided by the company)
I have created an admin account for myself and user accounts for my 2 kids. I did not grant them admin permissions. What I would like to do is allow them to install software/applications into their home directory rather than the Applications directory. From what I've seen so far, each time they attempt to install an application they get prompted for the admin password. This seems correct if they were to install into the Applications directory, but what if they want to install into their home directory or another that they own?
Linux would allow me to do this so I'm wondering if OS X does as well. Any suggestions?
    Thanks....
iMac 17" duo core   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Applicatons that are self contained and come inside disk images can be drag and dropped into your home directory.
They can in most cases be launched even if your a none admin user.
Application installers that are .pkg may be installing other components into the main system library as well as the home directory so therefore need an admin password. Also when creating an installer package the developer who created it may have ticked the box 'require root' even if it is not necessary.

    Hi,
The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.
If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox ''Help'' menu and select ''Submit Feedback...'' or use [https://input.mozilla.org/feedback this link]. (You'll need to be on the latest version of Firefox to submit feedback). Your feedback gets collected at http://input.mozilla.org/, where a team of people read it and gather data about the most common issues.

  • Allow Domain Users to install without password prompt

When accounts that are members of Domain Users want to install or remove a program from the computer, UAC prompts for administrator password. Is there a way through GPO default domain policy to allow people to install and remove programs if they like? Also, maybe restrict certain software to NOT be removed?

Hi Wizzler, if you at school or big organization that is there one or two image that you deploy to your clients I may have a solution for you, let me explain what Im doing in my organization which is at school, Im using deploy studio where I have 5 different
windows image and deploying them through Deploy studio but go back to the point before I captured image on the windows 7 of course computer is not joined to the domain you have to open computer mangment/ users and groups/ groups/ administrators and then there
just add Everyone that you ready for taking this image ( capturing ) and then deploying to the client computers and all of them have access to install all software and updated what they need with out prompting them for a password, but this need to be done
before computer is joined to the domain, for me is working fine, tested, students and teacher even if then know what is a server name there is no way for them to access it.
If you go with solution below then everybody can access your servers. I hope I was helpful :)

  • How do you allow multiple users share a common folder that is on the doc?

I'm coming from many years as an OS 8.6 user. My family expects me to wade though all of the documentation and figure out how to make using the computer easy. One feature they liked was the way I set up the Apple Menu so that only the programs were listed. The categories were Applications, Diversions, Internet, and Utilities. This masked all of the other stuff that may have been associated with a program from them.
I would like to do the same in OS X (10.4.7). So, in /users/shared I created a folder named of all things "Apple Menu". In this folder I've created new folders for Applications, Diversions, Internet, and Utilities. Into these folders I placed aliases to the various programs. I then took this folder and dragged it to the Doc. On my Doc, with I control click the "Apple Menu" folder, I see my folder names with drop downs listing all of the aliases just like in OS 8.6. Unfortunately, on the other user accounts after dragging the folder /users/shared/apple menu to the Doc, they can only see aliases to files that came with the system. They can not see any of the new files that I've added. How do I set this up so that I maintain one folder of the aliases to various programs and yet every account can see all of these aliases?
I don't want the Doc cluttered with applications that are not used all of the time. At the same time I don't want to have to navigate to some sub-directory and scan a list of files looking for the application everytime I want to run it. The rest of my family members would go nuts. As a matter of fact, I think I would also. I liked the Apple Menu in OS 8.6. I think this Doc folder thing might just work, if I can get past this security/permissions issue.
    Thanks for the advice.
    Joe
    17" iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   various Mac running OS 8.6

Thanks for the suggestions offered so far, but they don't get to the root of the issue. I only want to maintain one, and only one, "Apple Menu" folder. I'm not looking to restrict user access. I'm trying to streamline user access for those who are not comfortable navigating down 2 or 3 or more levels of directories looking for the "applications". As Administrator I do this at the time an application is installed and place an alias to the application in the appropriate "Apple Menu" folder so that my family members can quickly and easily access it.
I built the "Apple Menu" folder and placed it in /user/shared. I also built all of the aliases to the applications and placed them in the appropriate sub folder of "Apple Menu". I've chosen, "Applications", "Diversions", "Internet", and "Utilities" as the sub folders.
Some of the aliases, while logged into a non-administrator account do not show up in the "Apple Menu" while others do. For example TextEdit appears while TextWrangler, which I installed does not. I thought that only programs that I installed are not showing up, but this is not true. I installed Reunion and this program is visible from the non-administrator accounts. Yet I can navigate to the item not appearing in the "Apple Menu" and launch it.
The top folder's owner is myself, the group is "wheel" and it has read permission, and everyone has read permission. I've made myself and the other users members of the group wheel. And I've propogated these values down the folder hierarchy starting at "Apple Menu". I would like to know why this isn't working?
Though Classic Apple Menu and XMenu sound like good alternatives in each case I would be responsible for setting these applications up in each environment. I only want to do this set up once as administrator and know that all of system's users have access to this information from the Dock.
Is there some kind of installation step missing that is not permitting these aliases from being seen by all of the system's users?
    Again, thanks for the advice,
    Joe

  • How do you allow a user to create a new password?

The way i have it set up right now the users are registered by the admin and a random password is provided for them to log in. When they login they're instructed to create a new password.
They click to update their information. Included in this form is an "Old Password" field and a "New Password" field. They can choose if they want to create a new one or not. So I don't want to make it a requirement.
1 - How do I validate the old password.
2 - When they type the new password and submit the update info form. It inserts the new record over the old. But only after confirming that that old password is correct. How is this done?
Or should they just type in a new password with no validation that they know the old. ? Hm.
Please let me know. Thank you.
    Eddie Adolf

    Hi frunsel,
if the user choose a name where already exist, the error throws out, but it clears all the register fields (all the users entrys, and i have a few fields)
humm, that´s not cool -- however...
    how can i prevent this?
In this case I suggest providing a separate "check username availabilty" procedure in a blank window
(or a popup window, if you prefer) which ...
    a) on page 1 has a form with one "check_username" text field, and on...
    b) page 2 queries the login table´s "username" column against the textfield´s value and returns "username available" when no matching records were found, respectively "username already allocated" in case of a match.
That´s something I´d do without using ADDT, means DW´s native database related functionality are absolutely sufficient for such simple stuff

  • Installing Oracle Coherence

    Hi,
I want to install Oracle Coherence for Dot Net on my machine. It is having Windows 7 OS. While installing the setup is giving an error and rolled back.
Please tell me if there is another setup available for Windows7.
    Regards
    Nitin Jain

Unfortunately, Windows 7 did not allow me to upgrade my workstation (it would only allow me to re-install a new copy of Windows, which would have been a bit of a disaster). I was hoping to have an answer to you sooner.
For a developer, we should be able to provide a simple way to get the necessary files in place, but if the install process is not working on Windows 7, it may take longer to get the official supported installer fixed and publicly available (if this is something that is necessary for a deployment of an application to non-developer machiens, for example).
Also, have you opened an SR with Oracle support?
    Peace,
    Cameron Purdy | Oracle Coherence
