What type of Internet connection do you have?  How fast is it?

  • 2,900 songs, 23GB?? false advertising, or I'm doing something wrong here...

Complete novice here. Just bought Ipod touch 16gb then upgraded to the 32 GB because I got about halfway through loading my CDs into iTunes when I noticed the GB showing in iTunes was exceeding the 16 GB Ipod... 16gb was advertised to hold ~3,500 songs along with hours and hours of video. So now I am up to 2,900 songs and it's 23GB - there's got to be something wrong here. If I go further, I won't be able to fit onto the new 32GB, nevermind even being able to put video, etc on it!! Talked to a guy at Best Buy and he was perplexed and felt that 2,000 songs should only be about 8GB..
From spending hours on these boards looking for info, it appears that my import settings that were the default in iTunes (that I downloaded on 3/26/09) of AAC format and iTunes Plus, results in large file sizes....
I have literally spent DAYS importing CDs and really don't want to redo it under different import settings... I noticed when I right click on my Itunes music folder>properties>general tab > click on advanced attributes, there is a checkbox that I can compress contents to save disk space.
    So question is
    1. is the above method appropriate to compress the files
    2. is there an easier way to 'convert' all my imported music (currently showing as MP4) to MP3 that would be smaller file size (if so, is there a downside to doing this?)
    3. could there be other reasons for this large file size or other ideas/suggestions??
    Thanks in advance!

Hey, now. This line scares me:
"I guess I'll learn more over time about what material I want to carry around with me on the iPod vs. keeping stuff on the computer as I get used to it!"
You should always keep it on the computer. If the only copy of a song is on your iPod, you are setting yourself up for a minor disaster. Sooner or later you will need to restore the iPod. There are any number of issues that can cause it to get wonky and unusable. When that happens, the troubleshooting always has the step "restore your iPod" somewhere in the order of repair.
When you reach that step, *everything on the iPod is erased*. If you only had content on the iPod, not on your computer (or at least on a backup) you will lose the content. Period. No chance to recover it.
Please, if you insist on deleting from the computer, ensure you backup. Heck, backup anyhow. It just makes good sense.

  • I am contemplating replacing my old Ipod with a 8gb touch which supposedly holds up to 1760 songs. In my ITunes library the average size of a 12 song album is 300mb which means I can get 27 albums x 12 songs is 324 songs. Where am I going wrong here?

There is about 6.9  GBs of free space on an 8 GB Touch for data storage. That translates to roughly 23 of your average albums.
Holds up to 1760 songs is based on the size of an average track which is about 3 to 4 MBs, whereas your albums have tracks averaging more like 25 MBs per track. I sort of doubt your average album holds what would be about 5 hours.

  • I am having trouble uploading an Aperture photographic book to Apple. The first time I tried "Buy Book" the order proceeded normally but when it came to uploading the book to Apple it "uploaded" for six hours without going through so I aborted the attempt

I am having trouble uploading anAperture photographic book to Apple. The first time I tried “Buy Book” theorder proceeded normally but when it came to uploading the book to Apple it"uploaded" for six hours without going through so I aborted theattempt and cancelled the order.
The second time I tried the samething happened so after nine hours I found that the "Quit Aperture"button had greyed out so I had to Force Quit. I do not know if the order wascancelled but I do not think that the upload was successful.
What can I do about this problem?

I also am not able to print a book.  I have Aperture on two Mac, MacBook Pro (current) and a MacPro - both printed books prior to update 3.1.3 now all I get is the spinning ball then I have to Force Quit.  I tried books I have ordered in the past (trying to print a new book) and they also failed.  This is not a picture problem but a problem with 3.1.3 update.   I would like to print some more books and give Apple some money but can't.
    Any suggestions?

    Hey,
if you know the name(s) of the root folder(s) you want to access (eg. by making a note on the Windows side) then you can make them appear by just doing Shift-Command-G in Finder ("Go to Folder…"), and entering the full path to the required folders.  You can then navigate all the contents as normal.

  • Why is it taking 3-4 hours to upload 1 cd into itunes?

I just got a new classic 80gig ipod and I'm in the process of uploading all of my cd's into an itunes library. I've had a smaller ipod for a while, so I know my way around itunes. Recently it's started taking hours to upload a cd. The first few tracks upload fine, the on track 4 or 5 it slows down to about 40 minutes PER SONG. The error correction isn't on. If I leave it be eventually the whole cd uploads, but at this rate it'll take years to upload my library.
Any ideas? CD rom runs fine and is 24x. Can't find any problems in the diagnostic check either.
You'll be my hero if you can help me....

I've noticed that when importing CDs into iTunes the process slows as you move. Have you tried restarting the computer?

  • TS4124 Hi, do you know how can I upload inelegible songs from itunes to Icloud. They are songs added from original CDs. Another question would be how can I transfer all the music I have in my Ipod Classic to my Itunes or ICloud as I want to back it up.

Depends on why it's ineligible.  If it's under 96 Kpbs, try right-clicking on the file and choosing Create AAC Version.  (If you don't see this option, go to iTunes>Preferences, click "Import Settings..." then choose "Import Using: AAC Encoder" and "Setting: iTunes Plus".)  Then rescan your library to see if this version will add to iTunes Match.  Or, after changing your import setting, just re-import the song to your iTunes library.
If the song is over 200 MB you would have to reduce it's size to make it eligible.

  • I had an iTunes account on an old computer with over 300 songs and I now have a MacBook Pro and when i signed into iTunes all the songs I had before were gone. How can I get my old songs back?

I had an iTunes account on an old computer with over 300 songs then when I updated my computer to the MacBook Pro it deleted all my songs when I signed into iTunes. Is there a way I can get those songs back?

Did you put the songs on the new computer?
You should copy everything from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

  • My old PC died but hard drive is still functional. Purchased new PC and downloaded latest iTunes but attempts to transfer folder with songs from old hard disk to new computer failed. Only 20 of approx 300 songs transferred ??

My old PC died but the hard drive is still functional and accessible using a USB extraction device. I purchased a new PC and downloaded the latest iTunes but attempts to transfer the iTunes folder with songs from the old hard drive to my new computer failed. Only 20 of approx 300 songs transferred. All other non music file transfers (WORD, EXCEL, etc) from the old hard drive to the new computer were successful. Is this a file type issue? Any thoughts??  THANKS!

  • 2gig Ipod won't upload new songs

Accidentally washed Nano the other day. Everything works besides Syncing and Uploading new songs. Any ideas would help. Computer/Itunes won't recognize Nano during initial startup. Itunes works 100%.
    L.T.

How long did you let it dry? If it wasn't 5-7 days it still may have some moisture in it and if you attempted to charge it there may have been some battery/logic board damage.
