Writable PDF Issues on MAC Platform - HELP!!

Is this normal for writable PDFs to not function correctly on MACS? I am not having any problems on my PC or on different PC browsers. After testing my form on a MAC, I found many problems. Date and numerical fields are not working. My date doesn't come up and users can enter anything in the numerical fields. My reset button only cleared the checkboxes, but only sometimes. The tab order is also not functioning correctly.
Do I need to do something different for MAC's? Please HELP!! Everything works fine on PC's. I work for UC Santa Cruz and most of our campus uses MAC's.
I was trying to get away from using excel for forms, due to all of the issues that we have been having do to workstation and printer setups etc.
Platform Issues - MAC
Browser Safari - 2.0.1
Appreciate any help offered...
Thanks,
Rebecca Huth

Thank you Chris!!!
Yes, I was using the built in functionality.
The Mac I was testing on did not have Adobe Reader on it. I was able to hunt down another Mac where I could install Adobe Reader. I wasn't able to install anything on the Mac that I used yesterday. My form works as it should.
Thank you for getting back in touch with me so soon. I just started intorducing writable pdfs for our departments and I am very happy that it works across differnt platfroms as I thought it would.
Thanks again...=)
Cheers for Chris!!

  • Save as PDF issue on Mac

I am trying to export a set of images to PDF. The function runs and then brings up an error message that the file is not available for writing

Like I said, the file doesn't have to be open. Was the file with the same filename you were creating the PDF as already existing in your system? If it was, even if you had opened it in Finder and selected the file for Preview in Finder, PDF writing will fail sometimes.
Either that, or, a permission issue. Can you try creating on a different location or check folder permissions to ensure you have permissions to write to that file? Or, can you try with a different filename in the same or a different location?

  • Password issues with Mac Mail-help!

I created a new email account through my internet provider (Comcast) and I can no longer access my email although it is showing up on webmail. The comcast person said I would probably have to change my password. I tried doing this on Mac Mail but there doesn't appear to be the usual place to type in new password and then confirm. I am not sure what password they are asking for. The mail account was set up so long ago that I have never used any password when checking my account. I also notice if I delete the password, the password dots are back when I open preferences up again. I don't understand this and Comcast will not help with Mac Mail questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You said you never used a password when checking you mail. You must have a password on the account, I don't see how you couldn't.
When you go to www.comcast.net and go to the webmail client, you must enter your username and password in order to get your messages. It's this username & password that Apple Mail requires in order to access your email.
If you want/need to change your password, you can do this at www.comcast.net from within the webmail client. When you are at your inbox on the webclient, on the left side of the screen there is a link for "Preferences". Clicking that will take you to another page and one of the options is "Change Your Password". That's where you would go to change your password for that specific email account.
    Good luck,
    Bronson

    Hi Paresht,
This may not be a Nokia's problem. Apple has a huge set of licensed  fonts - this is presumably because of their background din publishing. When you generate a PDF in UNIX ( Mac OS X) it does not imbed the fonts which were used in the original document. Unfortunately, in order to read this PDF you would have to have the same font in the OS which you are opening the document in ( in this case Symbian) I doubt that Nokia has licensed the same amount of fonts. In normal circumstances the host OS will try to substitute missing fonts, but clearly this is not happening.
If the above is the case, I suggest you change font in your original document to something common (Times). if this helps then it is a font issue and you have your answer.
    I hope this helps.

  • Hi, since installing mountain lion on my macbook, it wont download pdf files from internet sites, the same problem does not exist on my mac mini, i am using firefox on both macs, please help!

Hi, since installing mountain lion on my macbook, it wont download pdf files from internet sites, the same problem does not exist on my mac mini, i am using firefox on both macs, please help!

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Problems with Writable PDFs and MACS - content not viewable unless clicked on

I am having problems viewing documents in Adobe Reader 9. Students are downloading a writable PDF from our system, saving it with content, then uploading it back to the system. All Mac users' documents are coming back blank unless clicked on. For some reason, all Mac PDF's are appearing blank until each individual field is clicked on. Once you click a field, the information shows up until you click another field then the information disappears in the old field and shows up in the new field.
We really need to be able to view and print these documents so if anyone knows of a quick fix please let me know! We are trying to print all of the applications tomorrow.

This is due to Apple's improper handling of pdf files with its Preview Application. This will not happen if your users use Adobe Reader. You can find a fix for individual files here: http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/885/cpsid_88564.html

  • Acrobat 9 Pro - Forms Not Calculating on any MAC platform?

Neither basic calculations (multipying the value of two fields) or javascripted fields function on any MAC platform (so far tested MAC 10x and IPad).  Everything runs flawlessly on every PC tested.  Form is accurate, no javascript errors.  Replicating fields does work on the MAC (typing "NAME" into the field on page 1 correctly replicates the NAME field on page 2 & 3.)  Only the math seems to be an issue.  Help!!!

Wow, you are indeed correct.  Here is what we just discovered:
    Snow Leopard (10.6.8)
If you open the file in READER it works fine.
If you open the file in PREVIEW nothing happens when you enter values in any QTY field.  When you close the file in PREVIEW you are presented with the option to save.  If you save the file it gets corrupted and will not display in READER.  If you do not save the file you can open it in READER and it works fine.
    Lion (10.7.2)
If you open the file in READER it works fine.
If you open the file in PREVIEW nothing happens when you enter values in the QTY field.  When you close the file in PREVIEW you are NOT presented with the option to save.  The file somehow gets corrupted and will not display in READER.
I guess the bottom line is that interactive PDF forms are real challenges for MAC users.  At this point the only way to assure MAC users get a working file is to point them to a non-interactive form that they must print, manually fill out then scan or fax back to us.
Thank you so much for your help George.  This has been by far the quickest and smoothest problem resolution process I have experienced with literally any software manufacturer!  I'm less than pleased about the outcome, but your part worked beautifully and we all now know exactly what the problem is.

  • Text-to-speech no longer working in any PDF apps in Mac 10.8.5.

Text-to-speech is no longer working in any PDF apps in Mac 10.8.4/5.  Does anyone know the software component that passes highlight text over to the speech synthesiser?   How is this process different in PDF's compared to any other text format?
So far I have tried Preview, Skim, PDFView, Safari, Evernote and Adobe Reader with the result: silence.  The only defference being Adobe Reader which speaks the name of the document and not the highlighted text.  I've re-applied the Mac OS10.8.5 como-update, fixed prefs, ran FSCheck and changed user.  I've tried every method of triggering the text-to-speech function (including custom scripts). Text-to-speech works perfectly in every other respect exept when working with PDF's. When Maveriks arrives I will do a clean install and rebuild my data manually which I'm pretty certain will fix the problem but it would be extremely rewarding to find an actual solution and learn something in the process.

Rawr! I got it to work, sort of. I think I tried so hard because I hated the thought of using alsa-oss. And I discovered a couple bugs in spd-conf! Does anyone care? lol
Basically, I redid my TTS-related configs & put them under ~/ instead of /usr/share, and ran "festival --server" & "speech-dispatcher -s" as a normal user. I also added myself to the "audio" group somewhere along the line, but I don't think that was the issue.
I'm almost afraid to reboot, because, although speech-dispatcher can be started at boot-time through rc.conf's DAEMONS array, I don't think festival can---at least, not in the same way as it can on distros that have the script /etc/default/festival. I'm about to see if I can track down that file, and hope I don't break everything somehow.
KTTSMgr still doesn't see any synthesizers, but I got past the "dummy module" message. Now I'm hoping I'll get some help from someone who actually knows what to do (as opposed to me).
    Take care, all
    H
P.S One small complaint: Although my speechd.conf specified port 6561, speech-dispatcher's tests showed that it was looking for a connection on port 6560 first, before scanning to find the real port. I had to change to port 6560 to stop the behaviour, even though I never customized the port number in the first place.

  • PDF plugin on Mac

The "official" (or at least, recommended by your FAQ) PDF plugin on Mac isn't supported on FF4 (well, you can compile it to be ran on FF4, but it needs to be ran in 32 bit). Since development on this plugin has stalled, what will you do about it? Chrome has a built-in plugin, and since Core Image provides support for PDF reading, it wouldn't be that hard to implement either... (please note that I have no coding knowledge, so I work on that, but I'd love to :) )
For the record, I uninstalled it since it wasn't supported and I now use Preview to open PDFs. But it's very annoying.

The following link may help, it has a version of the add-on that works in 32 bit mode - http://code.google.com/p/firefox-mac-pdf/issues/detail?id=189

  • Creating a Writable PDF

Can I create a writable PDF using a word document that is a form?

If you mean a form from a WORD form, that has to be done with Designer. You might ask in the Designer forum (likely listed at the top of this forum) about the process. Designer forms and Acrobat forms are a bit different. Once you have the form in Designer, you can no longer do anything with the form in Acrobat, except fill it out.
You should also be able to get more info in the help for this issue. Unfortunately the forms information at the startup of AA8 does not say anything about this issue.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus - "Scan to Computer" issue on Mac OSX 10.8 or 10.9

    Hi...
I have started experiencing the notorious "scan to computer not working" issue on my 1-month OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus, after having used the feature a number of times flawlessly.
There are a lot of potential solutions mentioned in dozens of relevant posts for both Mac and Windows, e.g.:
"Failed to open a session on the device"...
Scan to computer does not work...
Problem scanning to computer with an 8600 wireless
Unable to enable print to computer...
Enable Scan to Computer - Communication Error
Officejet Pro 8600 Utility does not show my Mac computer in scan settings
A 'Connection Error' or 'No Computer Detected' Error Message Displays during Scanning
HP Wireless All-in-One Printers - Communication Error between the Scanner and Your Computer...
    Etc.
However, in my case, no solution works, after several frustrating hours of trying to fix the issue, in Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), or after upgrading to Maverics (10.9).
The behavior of the device points to a software issue, since:
The printer is visible on the network
The print function has been working fine
    The HP Scan function works
The generic Scan function from System Preferences works (although in earlier times it did not, or it stopped working soon after invoking it)
The "Scan to Computer" option does not appear in the HP Utility screen (although occasionally, after random sequences of unistalling and installing the software, it reappears)
The HP Installer crashes before completing the installation (this is a latest symptom, apparently happening before unvoking the HP Setup Assistant, which still works fine)
As already mentioned, I have tried all possible solutions, including software and firmware updates, Apple drivers, HP drivers (full featured software), clean (un)installations, followed by computer and printer restarts. Nothing seems to work.
The "Scan to Computer" feature of the 8600 always works on my Windows 7 laptop, after initial configuration.
The next step will be returning the device for a refund, but before resorting to that, I am giving it a last chance, in (the unlikely) case there is something new I have not tried yet.
    Thanks,
    PNS

  • Front end printing with control technology problem with Mac platforms

    Hello,
We are looking into replacing Host Spool Access method "F: Printing on front end computer" with the newer "front end printing with control technology" but are running into an issue.  Our Mac platforms cannot print duplex nor print multiple pages per side using the new technology.  We have followed SAP's recommendation to use the POST2 device type but it still won't allow full printing functionality.  Has anyone run into this and if so how did you overcome it?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Rich

    Hi Rich,
I've had success getting duplex printing through "front end printing with control technology" with the Mac SAPgui as follows:
In the Mac SAPgui, go to the Preferences window and select Printing (i.e. Preferences -> Desktop -> Printing).
In the "Media sides" pull-down menu, select one of the "two-sided" choices (such as "two-sided-long-edge").
Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the window (near the right hand side.
Print to a Front end printer.
I haven't figured out how to get n-up printing.

  • How can you create a writable PDF document from a PPT presentation ?

How can you create a writable PDF document from a PPT presentation ? Upper part with the image , lower part with a free space in order to take notes for students during presentation or course.
    Thanks.
    B

You can make a PDF file out of you notes and handouts but using the Adobe PDF printer.
Open your PowerPoint Document then go to “File” “Print”
    Select ‘Adobe PDF” Printer
Under slides, select which way you want to print. Note it will not print to a printer but to a PDF file.
After then go into printer Properties and Setup PDF properties, do the following: (see second image below)
    Default: PDF/A 1-b
Adobe Security: none (change as needed)
Adobe Output folder: Prompt for Adobe file name
Adobe Page size: Letter (change as needed)
    Check the following check boxes
    View Adobe PDf Results,
    Add Document Information,
    Rely on system fonts only,
Delete Log files for successful jobs.
    Select OK
A pop will ask you where you want to save the document. The file extension should be PDF. After giving the file name select okay and the file should popup as a PDF. Down side is if you want to speaker notes included then you will have to do another file, like wise with just screen shots then combine into one PDF document.
I used Acrobat IX Pro. So to do this you need Acrobat IX or X Pro.
    Hope this will help.
