Write comment and headers to spreadsheet file

Hi,
I am using Labview 2010 to run IV measurement. After getting IV data (2D array), I am using "write to spreadsheet file.vi" to save my data. However, I want to add some comments and time&date into that file. How can I do that?
Thanks,
Joyce

See the attachment.  What do you get at the output of the concat string?  Is it 0.00 at that point?  Post your code if you are able.

  • Help with DAQmx tension measurement and saving to spreadsheet file with NI USB-6218 (very urgent !)

    Hello people,
I've been given at the last minute a project at school where I need to do some data acquisitions (tensions) with a DAQ NI USB-6218 and it has
been miserable ever since, I first tried the "easy" way with DAQ assistant to save a given number of samples per channel to a text file
in order to use it in matlab, well...it isn't working : every time in my text file I have a different number of samples, I used the "Write to spreadsheet" function within a while loop where I wired the path outputs to a shift register in order not to have it asking me the path all the time,
but I'm still not getting the X number of samples per channel as specified at the beginning.
So I've been using another method with the DAQmx where I get each individual waveform into a vector of samples, when I look for the size
of the vector it looks Ok, 100 in my case but the problems start when I try to have a text file where each column will represent a channel for
subsequent matlab treatment, what I'm doing doesn't seem to be working, it's really unbearable, please help me sort this mess out.
I'll add both VIs as attachment so it can help you help me, thank you.
Basically what I need is to acquire 15 tensions with a given number of samples per channel (the same for each channel) and then plot it in matlab.
Note the first VI has switches to "unblock" each channel but it doesn't seem to be working, please look at both VIs.
It's very urgent, I could fail my school year if I fail this project.
Thank you very much for your help.

Hi Thank you very much for your help, in the meantime, I've changed the project to (see attachment), now
it is at least writing the waveforms to the txt file, but again there is an another problem, it seems to be ignoring the
number of samples I specified per channel, it seems to be writing into the txt file for as long as I keep the VI running.
What is missing ? Also I'd like to have a clock for my samples, that is when I plot in matlab I do not just plot random numbers, but the
physical analogical inputs as a function of time, that is for instance the first line corresponds to time 0, line 2 to time 0,001
ect...How could I do that ? For the meantime I got only 5 channels, when I know what my mistake is, I'll expand it to 15 channels.
    Please help me.

  • Running function with "Write-Host" and redirect output to file does nothing.

    Hello,
    I created this function:
    function TicketSolutionInformation {
Write-Host "User has been created." -ForegroundColor Green
    TicketSolutionInformation | Out-File -filepath ("123" + ".txt") -append
but the file 123.txt is always empty. Why ?

Write-Host will write text to console, not pipepeline so you'll always get nothing.
    Consider changing function to this:
    function TicketSolutionInformation {
    Param(
    [switch]$Passthru
Write-Host "User has been created." -ForegroundColor Green
    if($Passthru){
    "User has been created."
    }TicketSolutionInformation -Passthru | Out-File -filepath ("123" + ".txt") -append

Many of the PDF's we use in the lectures in my school are protected with a password, and therefore I can't make comments and notes in the files when I've downloaded them, unlike in Acrobat Reader for PC. This is very inconvenient. Can't this easily be fixed?

I have searched for the soluiton but i found it in flash cs5.I need it in flash cs3.
    Looking for the solution.
    Thank You

    Hello Jeff,
    From the LabVIEW Help description:
Sound File Write Simple (Windows, Linux)
Writes data from an array of waveforms to a .wav file. This VI automatically opens, writes to, and closes the .wav file. Windows You must have DirectX 8.0 or later to use this VI. Linux You must have the Open Sound System (OSS) driver to use this VI.
So, the data input to Sound File Write Simple.vi is an array of waveforms. However, if you only have one waveform, you can build an array that contains only your single waveform using the Build Array VI. As described in the LabVIEW Help description:
    Build Array
Concatenates multiple arrays or appends elements to an n-dimensional array. You also can use the Replace Array Subset function to modify an existing array.
So, for example, you could run your single waveform into the Build Array function and get an array of waveforms containing only your waveform. You could then wire this array of waveforms to the Sound File Write Simple.vi. This is shown in the image below.

  • Write to spreadsheet file.vi is storing data in one row only.

The 8 points of data is going into one column in the spreadsheet. In the "Write to spreadsheet file string.vi" how do I write the 8 points to one row for each cycle?
I got this VI from NI's web a couple of years ago and forgot how to modify this part. I usume it is within the write file.vi.
    Thank you in advance
    Skip

I just reread your original post and the way the "Write to Spreadsheet File.vi" that ships with LV works by default is to put 1D arrays into rows. I read your post backwards and told you how to put the data in a column. Sorry.
In any case, perhaps you need to make sure the Transpose input ISN'T true, and that the delimiter IS a tab.

The Write to Spreadsheet File is not the same as writing to Excel -- for that, you should use the Report Generation Toolkit (and there have been a number of posts here, as well as examples that ship with LabVIEW).
That being said, it is not clear (a) what you are trying to do, and (b) what is (or is not) happening.  The image you attached looks OK ...

  • Bug in writing Integer Data in Hex in Write Spreadsheet File

It appears that Write to Spreadsheet File forces all data to I64. Try writing an I16 or I32 array with a negative number. Format specification to 4x, 8x or whatever is ignored and you get a full completent of 16 bytes with a lot of FF's at the beginning making it I64

    Hi;
    it's not a bug it's a feature :-)
Whenever you want to format numbers the formatting routine will try to leave as much digits as needed/possible. When you format I8 then 2 digits are ok, I16 needs 4 digits and so on.
You can easily test this behaviour when using the 'Array to spreadsheet string' function (it's also used inside 'Write spreadsheet file'). When saving negative integers as Hex formatted ALL digits are needed to describe the number and so you get all of them in your text file!
The only problem is: 'Write to spreadsheet file' only knows about I64. Whenever you want to save negative numbers you get 16 digits regardless of format string.
    Solution:
Change the 'write to spreadsheet file' as described before or do the formatting on your own by using 'array to spreadsheet string'!

  • Read and write from and to text file

     Hi All,
I am trying to read some portion of a text file and make measurement and calculation with those numbers and write back to the same text file and also to a excel file. I need to create a 2 D  array of 20 by 20 from the text file values and write to front panel table and to text file. but I am having problem with it, obviously I am new to this. Please help me.  thanks much
    ~ Johnny

    Hi Lynn,
the requirement is to move C1 and C2 to each position that is given in the text file in steps and percentage value.
for example C1 has to go to first step (5%) and C2 has to go thru all steps, 5% to 95% , in 5 percent increment.
each 100 steps translates to 1 percent increment in the capacitor value.
at the end, I need to enter the measured data (values of C1 for each step, vesus all values of C2 for all steps) and enter them at the bottom of the text file's table where it starts at : "IMPEDANCE_REAL in Ohmone line per C1 position, containing all values for the different C2 positions" and do the same for where it says "IMPEDANCE_IMAGINARY in Ohmone line per C1 position, containing all values for the different C2 positions"
the reason I read the file twice, is that if it read it once, I couldn't connect it to spreadsheet string to array vi.
as you can see, I also like to use the write to measurement file and build table express vi's to display the table on the front panel and save the data to ni data file format so later I convert it to excel  too.
    any thoughts?
    thanks for your help

  • Write traces to spreadsheet file mis-wiring

I want to extract the data from the DSC database based on a user- or program- defined time range and write that data to a text file. I have the first stages of that set up here, but there is a broken wire (cluster type) that I don't understand what about it is broken.
According to the help dialog for "Write Traces to Spreadsheet File", the trace information cluster shown in the vi should be correct. But it is not and is marked as a false connection. What is wrong???

Change the order of the objects inside your cluster. Disconnect the cluster wire from the write traces to spreadsheet file vi. Right click on the terminal and select create constant. Turn on the context help window and move the cursor to both wires and note the order of the items in the datatype of the wire.

  • Problem using read from spreadsheet file and polar plotting

    Hi to all labview users,
i am a beginner in labview and i am trying to do a polar plot.
i read the polar plotting example in labview and it was straightforward.
I used "write to spreadsheet file" to gather data.
and they are in the following format
    13  10
    4  20
    8 30
    ....etc
now. i tried using "read from spreadfile" to get the data into a array, then using "array to cluster" to convert the array into cluster, so i could connect it to the polar plot block
however, it kept saying i couldnt connect that way, because polar plot uses 1-d array with cluster of 2 element and my source is a cluster of 9 elements....
but doesnt the "read from spreadfile" block give me a 1-d array? and where does that 9 come from? i only have 3 rows and 2 columns in my data file....
any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    thx alot

    Helllo,
I've made an example to try to help you  with that question.
    Notes:
     - the file must have values separeted by tab
     - reading the values from file as you mentioned using "read from spreadfile" you'll get a 2D array and not 1D;

  • Help on fonction Write to spreadsheet file

    Hello,
I come on this forum to find a solution for my issue.
I have made a VI which acquires an input voltage and where the user can modify some parameters.
For each iteration of my while loop, I want to save the data in a csv file that's why I'm using the fonction Write to spreadsheet file.
But when I want to use this saved datas in csv format with Excel, the data were saved in string format so not a numeric. My purpose is to have some numerical datas and not strings because I can't do graphics or calculs.
As you can see on the csv saved file, only the iterations of the while loop (column C) are in a numerical format.
Here is my problem, thank you in advance for your help

  • Save digitizer and DIO waveforms into one spreadsheet file

I am using attached mixedsignalscopeusingtclk.vi for data acquisition and would like to acquire 4-channel of data. My PXI-1042 system has PXI-5122 and PXI-6552, and I am using 2 channels of digitizer and 2 channels of digital I/O. I am using Labview 2010 SP1. Hi,
You can use a Write to Measurement File express VI. Note that this is the easiest way however not the most efficient way to write to a file.
Since you have the fetch VIs inside for loops, your output is a 1D array of waveforms. You will need to obtain the waveform element and convert it into a type that the express VI can read. If you unbundle the waveform and grab only the data and connect it straight to the express VI, LabVIEW will automatically place a "Convert to Dynamic Data" block in line to make it compatible. Same applies when you connect the boolean array to the Signals input of the express VI. And if you connect more than one signal to this input, LabVIEW will automatically place a "Merge Signals" block.
If you reproduce the below code, you should be able to write the two channels to the same measurement file. If you have more than one channel of each type, you can grab multiple elements using the same Index Array block and take them through the same process shown below.
    Hope this helps.
