Write to SharePoint 2007 list using Web Services, getting Soap error

Hello! I have never worked with XML or SharePoint's Web Services but am not facing a need to use it. I am attempting to write to my SharePoint 2007 list with the following code and am getting the following error :
Exception of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException' was thrown.
Here is my code I copied from Phil on StackOverflow
Dim lists As New BofaListWebReference.Lists() lists.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
Dim listguid As String = "{my list guid}"
'Get Name attribute values (GUIDs) for list and view.
Dim ndListView As System.Xml.XmlNode = lists.GetListAndView(listguid, "")
Dim strListID As String = ndListView.ChildNodes(0).Attributes("Name").Value
Dim strViewID As String = ndListView.ChildNodes(1).Attributes("Name").Value
'Create an XmlDocument object and construct a Batch element and its 'attributes. Empty string as view means use the default view.
Dim doc As New System.Xml.XmlDocument()
Dim batchElement As System.Xml.XmlElement = doc.CreateElement("Batch") batchElement.SetAttribute("OnError", "Continue") batchElement.SetAttribute("ListVersion", "1") batchElement.SetAttribute("ViewName",
strViewID)
batchElement.InnerXml = "<Method ID='1' Cmd='New'>" + "<Field Name='Title'>test</Field>" Try
lists.UpdateListItems(strListID, batchElement) Label1.Text = "Call Escalated to sharepoint, ok." Catch ex As Exception
Label1.Text = ex.ToString
End Try
Sorry, the pasting of the code didn't work as expected.
Any help on getting me the ability to write to my list will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Manzutto,
Not sure if you have attached the whole code in the post.
If so, it contains errors in the Batch Element file, <Method> tab should have </Method> in the end.
batchElement.InnerXml = "<Method ID='1' Cmd='New'>" + "<Field Name='Title'>test</Field></Method>"
And the element in the batch element xml is case sensitive. Please make sure you have the xml file with correct format.

Did you ever get this figured out?  I am having exactly the same problem in code generated by VS, with the BAPIRET2 structure.
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

  • Using SharePoint Lists.AddAttachments web service in LiveCycle

    Hello everyone,
I have implemented a workflow process that saves data from a PDF form to a SharePoint list, using its Lists.UpdateListItems web service.  This works fine with no issues.  Now, I am trying to take this a step further by also attaching the associated PDF form to the list item, using the AddAttachments web service, but have been unsuccessful.  I keep getting an empty web response back.
Has anyone been able to use this web service successfully within LiveCycle, particularly with PDF documents?  Please let me know, any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • SharePoint lists.asmx web service error in InfoPath and SOAPUI

We have a SharePoint 2013 farm with web applications using Claims Authentication. I'm trying to create an InfoPath 2013 form where I want to add lists.asmx (https://servername/_vti_bin/lists.asmx) web service to receive/submit data, but I'm getting below
error, even if I use the farm account when it prompts for credentials. SharePoint logs look clean, IIS logs have some 401 errors.
"The file is not a valid XML file. Not enough storage is available to process this command"
When I add the web service in SOAPUI using the farm account, it works fine. It only throws below error when I use my user account, which is a farm admin and also added to web application's User Policy. IIS logs have 401 error.
"Error loading [https://servername/_vti_bin/lists.asmx?wsdl]: org.apache.xmlbeans.XmlException: org.apache.xmlbeans.XmlException: error: Unexpected end of file after null"
Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this issue?
    Thank you,

Well... this is definitelly not a requirement.
The code snippet came from the test (junit) for something which is much bigger. And of course the 1-char long table name has nothing to do with desing. At all.
We have a system where a user defines (named) xml structures, so to say. The structures are then "translated" into DB entities. So the result DB schema is fully auto-generated. The system supports 4 different SQL dialects. Oracle is just one of them.
Having restrictions like "name of a structure must be at least two characters" is no problem. But I still can`t believe Oracle has such a limitation. It does not sound logical (to me at least). And I had a hope may be someone has an explanation for that thing.
The code above works just fine if I do not request certain columns back after the statement is executed. (e.g. without the second parameter).
But anyway... I would post a bug for this, if I knew where to post it to :)
    Thanks.

    Hi AshishDatar:
For you question you want to get data from data base using web service connection. Here I can give you some suggestions
1.Write a web service to retrieve data from data base, then use Xcelsius u201Cweb service connectionu201D under u201CManage Connectionu201D section to consume the service and get the data from data base to spread sheet.
2.Xcelsius also provide you a tool to generate web service with easy way (without coding). (Suggested)
Using flynet, you can get flynet installation file under Xcelsius installation folder u201CXcelsius\Connectivity\Flynet Webservice Generatoru201D for more information about flynet please refer to
    http://myxcelsius.com/2008/11/07/generating-web-services-for-xcelsius-using-flynet-web-service-generator/
Here is also a demo on how to use  web service conneciton with Xcelsius + Flynet

  • Pulling data from a SharePoint 2007 List

I'm wondering if anyone has figured out how to pull data from a column in a SharePoint 2007 list to be able to dyamically generate a reaction in a flash object.
Our designer created a dashboard of thermometers for our projects that use two variables, % complete and status (green, yellow, red, blue).
As the end user, I want to be able to update my project in my SharePoint list and have it so that my updates automatically populate that flash based dashboard.  Right now, he's using an XML document that is stored in a folder on our SharePoint site and then simply updating the XML file when there are changes.
It would be ideal to pull this data from the list rather than having to update and then upload the xml document to the SharePoint site - any ideas?
    Thanks!

Sharepoint has a rich XML interface accessible via the URL.  Just point your XML.load to the List data from this interface.
An example of XML / URL access is here:
    http://vspug.com/dwise/2008/01/10/accessing-sharepoint-list-data-as-xml/
    Hope that gets you started.

  • Q: General : When will you use Web Service as opposed to just Servlet and/or EJB?

    Hi,
I don't know if this is an appropriate question to ask for this class as it's not
    workshop
specific. I was wondering how will I decide when it is appropriate to use a web
service as opposed to say servlet or an EJB for my application? What is a good
    rationale to use?
    Thanks,
    Sadhana

    Hi Adam,
Thanks a lot for giving such a lucid explanation of my vague question!
I understand now the difference between when to use EJBs/Servlets/Web Services.
    Thanks again!

    Hi Sadhana,
Web service versus Servlet versus EJB. Which one to use? That is a very
    good question.
EJBs should be the core desription and processing of your business rules.
    They generally
have good performance, are easy to integrate into your security set up but
    they require
access using the RMI-IIOP protocol. This means that generally EJBs are not
    accessible
outside of your firewall and their clients have to be written in Java (other
    enterprise
objects or applets or GUI applications).
Servlets often form a web-based front end to EJBs. They also have good performance,
integrate into security and only require HTTP access. This means they are
    accessible
outside your firewall and any client with a HTTP or web API can call on
    them, however,
there is no standard contract or rules for this type of interaction so you
    will need
provide direct input into development of the client.
Web services are also accessible via HTTP and so can be accessed from outside
    your
firewall. In fact, Web services internally within Workshop and WebLogic
    actually
operate by using servlets and EJBs but the main advantage is that the mechanism/contract
for interacting with the web service is a well defined standard (WSDL) and
    can actually
be registered or retreived dynamically (UDDI). Since web service standards
    are open,
most popular programming languages already provide client APIs to interact
    with them
thus freeing the web service developer from direct interaction with the
    client developer
and letting the client be developed on any platform. The penalty for this
    openness
is a small performance hit (XML translation) and a slowly maturing security
    model.
So in summary, use EJBs for business operations that have Java clients within
    your
enterprise, use servlets to provide web style access to your business operations
(like web pages) and use web services to enable automated clients that can
    be written
on any platform either inside or outside your enterprise (firewall). In
    fact, it
is common to write the EJB first and then to expose some parts of it outside
    of your
enterprise by writing a web service wrapper (maybe using the EJB controls
    that we
    saw in class).
    I hope this helps.

  • How to do Bulk data transfer  using Web Service

In my application I have to write various web services but majority of the web service has to
query database and return back bulk data(rows>10K) through web service.
So I would like to ask what is the efficient way of transferring bulk data using web service as presently
Iam returning the dataset as xml String (using StringBuilder) from web service and consuming the same at client end.
Is there a better way to this in web service?
    My env:
Front end can be in any other technology ,UI like C#
Back end : Tomcat 6 on Java 6 with Axis2
    Thanks in advance

    Innova wrote:
But then also I have to mention a return type although its xml that is getting transferred.
Can you provide me a with a small sample code.Like if I have Emp obect with properties
Empname,EmpID,DOJ,DOB,Dpt . In this case what will be the return type.
My major concern is that my resultset is going to be huge in terms of >10,000 rows so
that much time for formation of xml and then the transfer so how can I reduce the transfer
time ,I meant a faster optimised approach for transferring large data as part of web service.
Simply putting , how can I transfer bulk data in minimum time so that I can reduce the
waiting time at client side for the response.
Thanks in advanceI've done this with thousands before now, and not had a performance problem...at least nothing worth writing home about.
Your return type will be an array of Emp objects. You can use a SOAP array for that (you'll need to look that up for the syntax, since I can't remember it off the top of my head), which gets restricted to being an array of Emp.
Should the normal technique prove to be too slow then you should look at alternatives, but I would expect this to work well enough. And you have no faffing about with devising a new transfer system that then has to be explained to your client system...it'll all be standard.

  • How to use web service consumer as a source to connect to Salesforce?

I see a lot of articles and mapping xmls on how to use web service consumer but as a newbie I am not able to view the object schema from my salesforce enterprise WSDL after importing it in Informatica designer as a source. My enterprise wsdl has operations like create, retrieve, upsert, delete etc so if I want to read data from account then could someone guide me on how to use the web service consumer to view the fields after importing the wsdl.  After importing the wsdl and selecting the operation say create, the columns (ports) displayed shows different groups but it doesn't list the object fields? what am I missing here? And what is the operation to read data from Salesforce is it "retrieve" from the entripse wsdl? As a newbie on this, I appreciate any inputs on this topic.

  • Urgent! How to create a ebook using web services?

Hi I would need some help on how to creating a e-book using web services. Sample code would be good for me.
I had been finding sources for quite sometime but i doesn't seems to be easy to find as compare to andriod.
    Description:
    Windows 8.1 SDK Sliverlight.
The e-book will on PDF format.
Once user click e-book icon, i would link to my database to retrieve all the ebook available via web services.
Then user select the e-book, the content will be again retreive from my database to the users.
Is there any solution? I need it quite urgent.

    Hi Ding Zheng,
    >>Once user click e-book icon, i would link to my database to retrieve all the ebook available via web services. Then user select the e-book, the content will be again retreive from my database to the users.
According this approach, I would suggest you make good use of build-in API to render PDF in store app. see more classes in the following namespace.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/windows.data.pdf.aspx. Using this APIs need PDF file in local storage, so I list the following steps
    for you to try.
Step 1, Store PDF file in web site folder and save the PDF URL in database.
Step 2, Use Web service/WCF/REST service to public the PDF to store app.
Step 3, Store app uses service to get PDF list and then display them.
Step 4, User choose one PDF, get the PDF download URL from service and then download it on local storage. Store app support download file form server, you can use BackgroundDownloader. See from
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/windows.networking.backgroundtransfer.backgrounddownloader.aspx.
Step 5, Use PDF APIs to render it in store app. See code sample
    https://code.msdn.microsoft.com/windowsapps/PDF-viewer-sample-85a4bb30#content.
Please feel free to let me know if you have any concerns.
